So. We are not a skiing family but secretly, I wish we were. Is it too late to start now? If I’m being real, I just want some sort of ski cabin (wait wait, I’m much more condo than cabin…) decked out in cuddly blankets and full of espresso machines. I want two fireplaces and ten stacks of books and the most perfect instagrammable snow falling right outside the window. And some hot chocolate. That’s really why I want to be a skiier. Is it as dreamy as it sounds? Indulge me.
How was your week?! It was COLD here so we cuddled up and maybe even ventured outside in Ugg boots. THE HORROR. Other than my always questionable fashion choices, I’ve been drinking a bunch of this and smooching a bunch of this.
And! Over on facebook I shared a video of my cheesy one pot tomato basil pasta. Throw it all in ONE pot – and go. Tada.
loves of the week:
my friend kristen does the most fun snapchat coffee talks ever, and now she is doing a similar newsletter. i love this so much.
best thing i read all week: tips for using your phone camera only – and leaving the big one home when traveling.
tomorrow morning i’m making the prettiest tropical green smoothie bowl.
how to organize your goals and get stuff DONE! oh yeah oh yeah. this probably does not include having someone do things for me, whomp whomp.
loving the idea of these spicy veggie sushi bowls. so much flavor.
earlier this week i made this baked spaghetti with meat sauce and it was SO fab. i have made dishes like this before but this one? top notch. eddie and max both agreed.
chai overnight oats with blood orange. like i can even pass this up.
megan’s 29 things she’s learned in her twenties. perfection.
we can do it: lemon poppy seed loaf cake.
maple roasted pears are screaming my name.
as long as no fennel SEEDS are involved, i’m all over this linguine with fennel and winter greens.
let’s blow our resolutions with a white russian affogato. what do you say?

Yes, I LOVE Brian’s article! I’ve always been big believer of “the best camera you have is the one you have on you”. And honestly, I don’t like lugging the big one around all the time. So yeah for awesome iPhone pics! Thanks for the pear loving. Cheers to the weekend! XO
You can 100% escape to a snowy alpine wonderland and not ski! There are other (cheaper) things to do like drink hot beverages in front of fireplaces and sled for 10 minutes before returning to fireplaces/beverages.
Love that iphone photography post! We’re scheming a trip to Hawaii and I would definitely not bring my camera…whenever I bring it somewhere I never use it! My mom definitely took janky disposable camera photos of us when we were kids and are those photos any less special because they didn’t look professional? Nope.
Aaaaand, thanks for sharing my affogato. I want one this am, right now. Is it too early? (Yes, it is…)
Definitely scour the ski town resorts for plush condos and look for deals pre-season. Possibly still cool enough to cuddle without the prices being ridiculous. We stayed in Banff in October at the most amazing resort – 2 floor condo, all amenities, sweet, sweet deal. The biggest hot tub/pool of life that looks over the snow capped mountains with a fire roaring behind and unlimited hot chocolate in the lobby. http://www.banffhiddenridge.com/
I needed those phone camera tips! Everything is lovely, per usual. xo
Again, Jessica… you ROCK for the shout-out! I’ve got you on my Feedly now because I’m just loving your recommendations every week :) Much love to you!
It is totally dreamy. Y’all should definitely go one day. And you shouldn’t feel bad about not skiing if it’s not your thing!
Please become a ski family so you can come to Utah and ski with us. Don’t worry, I don’t ski. We can stay inside while our boys ski! :)
I hear you about the wintery cabin life. If you haven’t, check out kitkat_ch on snapchat. She posts these amazing snow/mountain/europen/sound-of-music-like winters. I want to go on vacation whenever I see one of her snaps!!
So we went skiing last winter for the first time, and I may have had a major crying meltdown up on the mountain. I HATED it, but loved the condo we stayed in and the hot toddies! Your idea of skiing sounds like my ideal ski vacation – without the actual skiing!
Thank you, friend, for the shoutout. You are the sweetest. And I agree with Rebekah. kitkat_ch is AMAZING.

I have a confession to make, I only use my camera phone. I don’t have a real camera. I’m so embarrassed! I did pin the camera phone tips, hopefully I’ll be choosing a camera soon. Happy Sunday!
Having just returned from a magical week in Park City, UT — I fully support your desire to take a ski vacation. I turn 33 at beginning of February and just took up skiing right around the time I turned 30, so age shouldn’t be a factor. My only regret is that I didn’t start when I was younger! My husbands parents have a time share in Park City, UT which makes it an easy annual trip for us. The resort is Ski-In / Ski-Out…meaning, you don’t have to lug your skis, boots, poles, etc. too far at all. Oh…and the Apres Ski…picture this…a steamy hot tub, a cold crisp glass of white wine…DO IT!
So, we are a skiing family, and my mom didn’t learn until she met my dad. She used to go out every weekend, and still really likes it, but refuses to ski with me because she thinks I’m trying to kill her, which is ridiculous, I’ve only tried to kill my siblings while skiing, not my parents. Anyway, YES hanging out in the condo after skiing with a giant mug of hot chocolate under tons of blankets is the best thing ever. And also not actually going skiing but hanging out in your condo all day with lots of books and blankets is also great. My advice is to go late in the season actually. There is still plenty of snow in March and even April depending on where you are going and condos or cabins for rental are even easier to come by. For some reason, not that many people like going on Spring Break to mountains, but it is a great way to get a good deal. Another way to get a good deal is go to a lake resort where it is cold and snowy, especially if you aren’t a huge skier.
I love the Fresh Exchange and their articles on just tips for living life are so great and insightful. That lemon and poppy seed loaf looks divine!
