Tuesday Things.
1. Really can’t wait to make this homemade chocolate coconut milk. Obsession.
2. My emoji use has hit an all-time low, as last week I spent about two full minutes searching for the emoji I wanted to use instead of typing out the word. Which probably would have taken seven seconds. I.am.the.worst.
3. 5 pro tips to beat procrastination. Yes. This is me. I need it. But real talk – how can you be a pro at procrastination AND give tips to beat it?! Riddle me that.
4. Thoughts on the donut ice cream sandwich thing? I’m not into it. I need my sandwich cookies to be more dense and chewy.
5. TV! I’m not watching ANYTHING. I’m so annoyed that Masters of Sex is pushed until September. We did watch Roadies on Showtime and both felt… meh… about it. I might just do a big Friday Night Lights binge. Or The Americans. I may as well just do Felicity then too. See ya in a month.
6. I know it’s not new but I really LOATHE the instagram algorithm update. Speaking as a user, as someone who likes to look at other people’s photos. It makes me batty. I want everything in chronological order. Whyyyyyy.
7. My biggest success of 2016 will be converting Eddie into a crazy Target shopper. He might go more than I do these days, even if it is just to buy toys for Max that he can’t even play with for four more years. Cue eye roll.
8. Whatcha reading at the moment? I just finished Emily Giffin’s newest (and liked it) and feel like I’m finally at a point where I’m no longer too ridiculously sleep deprived to read before bed. Well, that’s not true, I’m just used to the deprivation. SO bring on the books!
9. How sacrilegious would it be to throw leftover pie in a milkshake today… as opposed to… eating it? I may be desperate.

I just read “Elligible,” a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice. I feel like that’s something you might be into … but maybe I’m wrong? I feel like it could still be a super fun read, even if you’re not a P&P fan. Also, for TV – have you watched Jane the Virgin?!??! I’M OBSESSED.
I hear you on Instagram… it’s SO frustrating for type-A people like me ;)
Totally support the Target obsession. I went this weekend for a baby gift and a graduation card. I walked out with multiple bags and an hour of my life gone, with purchases including stackable ice cub trays and a new silverware organizer – because it was teal on the bottom. In terms of books – I read The Assistants in a day at the beach – a great summer read. Need a new one and looking forward to some good suggestions in the comments! And good choices for your TV binge – just finished Friday Night Lights and Felicity is my fave of all time.
LOVE the Americans! My husband and I are debating spending the money on Amazon Prime to continue to season 4. It’s getting so good!
We’re also binge watching Jericho (for David) and Chuck (for me). Gah, I love Netflix on demand!
Totally doing a Felcity and Friday Night Lights binge. Thanks for the encouragement!
In regards to #4, yes do it! In Sicily, they make gelato sandwiches with brioche buns… and eat them fro BREAKFAST.
What is left over pie? I have never heard of that ;)
Throwing leftover pie into a milkshake is genius. And delicious.
In Thailand they put scoops of ice cream in hot dog buns! Does not work for me.
YES yes to the insta algorithm; especially when accounts are posting multiple photos and they’re out of order. I’m Type A and really need everything to be in order.
Binge watching – just started S3 of Masters of Sex purely to oogle Josh Charles. LOVE. And decided to watch Grey’s from the beginning. Ahhh, the early seasons are WAY better and just crazy enough to want to watch multiple episodes but not so great that you waste half your day. And everyone I know suggested Six Feet Under, so, likely that soon.
Reading – nothing at the moment; but waiting to get my hands on the newest Elin, Emily, and Allison Winn Scotch. I believe PopSugar recently released a 20 best books of summer list – great inspiration.
I just finished reading “A Thousand Naked Strangers”, a first-hand account of a paramedic in Atlanta. It was pretty good!
I am currently reading The Island House by Nancy Thayer….so far so good. I just finished Here’s To Us and loved it!! I love Elin Hilderbrand! Your recipes look so good too…..I am definitely going to make the Clams Casino Dip for my next girls’ night in :) My sister in law is the best baker I am going to recruit her to making the White Champagne Cake with Champagne Candied Strawberries.
Always put pie in a milkshake! My favorite boozy bakery (totally a thing), Butter & Scotch do it and it is incredible! So decadent and wonderful!
you NEED to get into the Americans. I am beyond obsessed with it! And I love that Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys are together in real life and having a baby #couplegoals
Do you watch Veep? I tried to like it a few years ago, and couldn’t get into it. Binge-watched the entirety of Season 5 this weekend and was so engrossed and had so many guffaw, LOL moments. Preacher on AMC is pretty different and intriguing. We are really into it so far.
I hate the IG algorithm too. It blows. Can’t we have the option of chronological, at least??? Blergh.
i’ve had a donut ice cream sandwich from afters (chain in southern california) and just wasn’t impressed.the doughnut was meh, but even if it wasn’t, agree that the buns need more heft rather than just squishy (and therefore maing the ice cream go everywhereee).
You should check out The Blacklist if you haven’t already. My husband and I love it! We binge watch a few episodes every night after the baby goes to sleep. There’s 3 seasons currently out and season 4 starts in Oct.
ugh, so with you on the instagram thing! i don’t use it as much as i used to and i just yesterday went into “settings” thinking maybe i could change mine back to chronological order?? apparently no such luck. why not? don’t get it.
Omg the Americans… SO good!! My husband and I are hooked. As for the leftover pie… Please do it. Also, my husband is exactly the same about Target. He spends the majority of the shopping trip in the Lego aisle even though Sam is 16 months old
I’m not sure if it would be your thing but my husband and I just started watching Mr. Robot and it is the best. We found it on Amazon Prime and thought it was a Prime series. Nope. USA Network and season 2 starts next week. Totally binge-able at 10 episodes in season 1 and definitely NOT the standard USA fair. I would put it into grittier FX network category.
It has the son from Big Love in it and also Christian Slater looking as though he has not aged since the ’90s. I highly, highly recommend it.
Currently binge watching UnReal and it is SO good. Everyone has the same reaction when they here about it though: “It’s on the Lifetime channel, really?”. Don’t let that deter you though. It’s seriously amazing. The only bummer is that it’s not on Netflix or Amazon, only Hulu.
Yes! I totally second this recommendation!
I’m currently reading The Girls by Emma Cline. It’s pretty good. Have you head of book of the month club? I highly recommend it & I think they are currently running a special on their 3-month membership.
Have you watched Mozart in the Jungle in Amazon prime yet? It’s soo good! Funny, smart, & entertaining. It’s seriously my favorite show, like ever.
I thought I’d escaped the IG algorithm on my personal account, and it just caught up to me. It’s the worst! Who thought it was a good idea!
I’m about 100 pages into Dave Holmes’s memoir Party of One and loving it. It’s so funny and pop-culturally insightful and moving. Basically, if you’re a fan of Dave Holmes, it’s perfectly Dave Holmes.
I’m binge watching The Good Wife on Amazon Prime. I’m not sure if you watched it when it was one, but it’s good. I’m currently reading “Big Little Lies,” but published my summer reading list on my site if you need ideas and want to check it out!
Throw the pie in a milkshake! I say do it!

Have you read The Truth about the Harry Quebert Affair? So good! the Nightingale was another awesome read.
Watch the pilot on HBO, The Night Of. It’s a new series starting this coming weekend and looks Ah-mazing! It reminds of True Detective Season One. I think you’ll be into it!
In the new iPhone iOS10 in the fall there’s going to be an option that after you type what you want to say you can click a button and it’ll give you the option to switch out all the emoji eligible words right to emojis without looking for them!
for some reason i think this sounds awesome ! but if it works like autocorrect i might not feel that way !
My Android texting app already does that. It will highlight the word and I can click on it and turn it into an emoji if I want.
Personally, my friends and I are obsessed with Bitmoji. Check it out if you haven’t already, you can make your custom person in a bunch of emoji type graphics. We can go several days just sending them back and forth without actual words being used.
Felicity! I keep saying I’ll watch this again but haven’t yet. I just finished Bates Motel and am now watching Gilmore Girls for the 100th time. Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce is fun to binge watch. Or The Killing if you like drama more.
Currently reading – Here’s to us, finally! I was reading in bed when I got to your recipes and then I couldn’t stop thinking about bread and butter. At midnight!
TV suggestions…totally PBSing
The Great British Baking Show…new season started Friday July 1, @9pm
The Nine Months That Made You…Wednesday @10pm. It’s a fascinating program that explores, in amazing detail, week-by-week (and even day-by-day) fetal development and what makes each of us human and uniquely ourselves. The first episode was June 29.
OMG – you have got to start watching Orphan Black on BBC America. The actress who stars in it, Tatiana Maslany, is a master of acting like none you’ve ever seen, and the story line about clones, is engrossing. Another all-time binge-worthy show was ’24.’ For a great read, I am reading Before the Fall by Noah Hawley. I am not done yet, but so far it is great. Also just finished The Art of Racing in the Rain – an older book but a profound read.
I just finished reading “The One That Got Away” by Leigh Himes and “Who Do you Love” by Jennifer Weiner. I enjoyed them both. I have two checked out that I haven’t read by Emily Giffin yet (old ones) and am on the waiting list for her new one! I keep waiting for another Rainbow Rowell book to be released…but I don’t see any word on a new one!
I just want to know where I can get me some of those donuts…
I just finished Defending Jacob and… I kind of can’t handle the ending. Need a new book ASAP.
And I hate hate hate the fact that Instagram isn’t in chronological order anymore. WHY is the thing at the top from three days ago? Not a fan.
OMG! The new Instagram is the worst! It’s bad enough that the postings are out of order, but I am even finding that they are leaving out postings of people that I follow!! ( I sent a scathing email to Instagram on that!)
TV–Are you not a Ray Donovan fan?? If not, you really should try it, Jess! It’s great!
I second the Blacklist. My husband forced me to watch it and then we were up at 3am debating whether we could make it though another episode. I was hooked by the end of episode 2. ?
The new Instagram is driving me crazy.
Have you tried Gboard yet? It’s the Google keyboard on iOS that allows you to search emojis! Game. Changer. You can also search for gifs, add weather, etc. It’s amazing.
im currently reading big little lies by moriarty but i think you might have read. also reading kate hudson pretty happy book but thats a different thing. i love jennifer weiner books for sommer but havent gotten the new one yet. i haven’t read a truly awesome book since the nightingale. that book is ruining others when i compare ! as for tv i cant comment a ton. my tivo is finally under 40% full. i havent binge watched anything in a while other than catching up recently on empire and scandal. i did like the catch the new shonda rimes show on ABC. watched that i think in 2-3 days.
hate hate hate the instagram stuff. and haha the pie milkshake isn’t crazy! one of the super popular pie places in MN sells pie shakes!
