February Favorites: Beauty.
Hello hello!
Welcome to my faaaaavorite post of the month. There are so many things I’m loving right now, but most aren’t new – they are things I’ve been using for awhile. I’m still reeeeally all about the dewy, glowy highlight. I’d even be all about the sparkle if it didn’t make me feel like a child.
One thing I didn’t include but wanted to mention is that Hourglass Lip Stylo I talked about last month. I am so crazy about it! They feel great on my lips.
Now for this month…Â
Clinique Cheek Pop in Melon Pop. This is an oldie but goodie and I brought it out this month to bring some life to my face. I love this bright coral and the cheek pop blushes are awesome.
Glam Glow Glowstarter Moisturizer. Guess what? I actually misplaced this product and thought I had left it at a friend’s house, but I found it this week in one of my bags! I love this stuff. I use it under moisturizer or on it’s own. This is the original illuminating one that I talked about here – not the matte. I’ve read a lot of negative reviews on this, but I love love love it! I need to use the heck out of it now because it’s probably almost expired. Eeeek. I’ve been mixing a drop of the drunk elephant vitamic c serum that I mentioned last month in with this in the mornings.
YSL Touche Eclat in #1. Another oldie but goodie – I think this was one of the first products I ever talked about here on the blog, waaay before my beauty faves. This was one of my first higher end concealers and I used it for years – I even used when it was only available in one shade. I do like using #1 because it has a pink tone to it. On days where I’m running somewhere quickly and not putting on makeup, I’ll throw this on and it’s so brightening. It’s similar to the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind that I also love, but I find it to be more liquid like. I can even use it under a concealer.
Sunday Riley Good Genes. Since my skin was super weird this month (I’m blaming crazy weather changes and my laziness on using makeup wipes only a few times – ugh!), I started using the Good Genes every other night again. I swear this stuff is magic. It improves any texture on my skin within days. I don’t know why I ever set this aside! As long as I still moisturize after using it, my skin is good.
Mario Badescu Drying Lotion. I’ve heard about this for years, but I rarely have breakouts. I know that I’m lucky and I’m almost positive it’s due to having super dry skin. I had one stubborn semi-breakout this month (I hesitate to call it a breakout because if you saw it, you’d probably be like… you’re insane. which I am.) and bought this on a whim. I LOVE the idea of using a cotton swab to apply it because you can get it right on the area. As opposed to trying to put it right on the area with your fingers. This works SO fast. Only downside is that it is drying, so if you get it on non-affected skin, it makes it flake a bit.
Weleda Skin Food. OHHH my love! Skin Food is something I’ve used for ages and in the winter, I actually will sometimes use it on my entire body, mixed with another cream or oil to stretch the product because it’s so pricey. But this month, my hands have been a MESS. They are so dry, most likely from doing an asinine amount of dishes while shooting cookbook recipes. I’ve kept one exclusively in my kitchen and use it a few times a day. Savior.
Unite Expanda Dust. Okay, so wait until I tell you what I do with this! When I got my hair done at the beginning of the month, my stylist threw the TINIEST bit of this into my hair (not at the roots!) to help it hold curl. Oh my gosh. It was life changing. My hair actually holds curl really well, except right after I wash and blow dry it. I’ve done this a few times at home and am loving how well it works on those days. The key is that you MUST only use a small amount. I actually put some in my hand (it gets sticky), rub them together, and run my hands through my hair before curling. Looooove.
Sol de Janiero Brazilian Crush Fragrance Mist. OH MY GOSH!!! When I opened my email one day and saw a sephora blast about this mist, I was so excited. I mean, how many times did I mention the bum bum cream last year? Five straight months? I think at some point I said that I even wished it was a perfume. Well – I’m so glad it’s a mist and not a perfume. This is HUGE and it smells exactly like the bum bum cream. I love it so, so much. It’s going to be permanently on rotation come warm weather.
Hourglass Long Wear Lipliner in Empress. I bought this in January and have been wearing it when I don’t do a brighter lip. I like it with some lipgloss over it (or even the Hourglass lip stylo I mentioned above) and the shade is more on the browner/purple/neutral shade, but one that works with my really cool skin tone!
Things I’m super excited about? Those CoverFX enhancer drops in the new shades (omg), the Glam Glow makeup setting spray and I’m kind of thinking about that Becca amethyst highlighter. What are you loving right now?!
{as usual, none of this is sponsored and all of these products were purchased by me. i am not affiliated with any of the companies above, nor do i accept free products. just love to talk about what i like, makeup junkie to makeup junkie. there are a few amazon general links above. thank you for being here!}

i wish i had never read that glamglow is releasing a makeup setting spray! i’m pretty sure i have an unopened bottle of the makeup forever spray in my stash, but of course, now i want the glamglow one! also, i ordered the sol de janiero cream/body wash combo yesterday so that i could get that deluxe la mer sample. very excited to try it and turn into a brazilian bombshell, obvi.
I still haven’t tried glam glow! I bought a new Dior SkinFlash which is great for concealer/brightening. I always keep it with me! and I tried a sample of a terrific serum from Shiseido – it’s pricey but I totally noticed a difference in my skin!
I’m dying to try the GLAMGLOW moisturizer, it sounds lovely!

My birthday was last week and my mom completely shocked me by picking out a few Chanel Le Rouge Crayon De Couleur pencils as part of my present. I’ve been a rouge coco and rouge allure enthusiast whenever my budget has allowed, and the pencils are great too–very opaque and smooth. I like Carmin, #12, the most of my 4; its a gorgeous deep red.
So fun! Have you ever heard of PURE Haven ESSENTIALS? Somewhat new to the market but I think you’d love their skincare & all the other products! I’d love to send you a sample in exchange for your honest review. PS How do we pre-order your new cookbook! XOXO

The unite spray leave-in conditioner is my absolute favorite! The expanda just made its way into my online shopping cart too. ;) Â Thanks for the recommendation!Â
Sunday Riley Good Genes is a miracle product! I follow it with Drunk Elephant Marula Oil at night and my skin is AMAZING when I wake up!
Hi! I know you’ve used the Trish McEvoy Beauty Booster serum before. Do you still use that and if you aren’t currently using it, do you use a similar product? I have tried a Drunk Elephant serum but didn’t love it (I know I’ve also tried something else I can’t remember, maybe a Paula’s Choice Product). Nothing else seems to make my face as glowy. I’m skeptical about Sunday Riley products and just hesitant to drop so much money when I could just get more Trish McEvoy…but I’m a seeker at heart and worried the grass is always greener! Also, curious if you have tried any Pestle & Mortar Products.
LOVE Weleda Skin Food – so good for my hands!
i have the glam glow moisturizer and i am just eh about it. do you use it under/over sunscreen ? i feel like it cant be my all over moisturizer cuz it leaves a bit of a shine, like on the cheeks yes the forehead no ?
in february ive been using a good skincare combo. i wanted to add a retinol product at night because i feel like my skin was better/smoother when i used to use retin a every few nights. so i got the peter thomas roth retinol pm fusion. its very watery and i just put a few drops in my palms, rub together and put on dry skin at night. then wait for soak in and then moisturize. i use this every other night alternating with drunk elephant glycolic acid gel with the pink top. i started using my good genes in the AM. moisturizing serum like FAB hyalaronic acid serum, then good genes, then moisturizer, then sunscreen. then of cousre the makeup ! nothing exciting on the makeup front this month. ive been loving buxom mascara. gives good length and never clumps for me. not super dramatic but good for work. for hair i got the briogeo heat treatment cream and i really like it. it helps a bit with my flyaways and makes me hair soft and i even can use it towards the roots. i super love these posts !
I got a 7 day sample of Good Genes from Sephora and have about 80% loved it. I applied at night and the first two mornings I woke up looking so fresh faced! By the third day I had a dry, scaly patch on my face. I think I want to purchase it but will probably only use it every other night.Â
I cannot wait to try the Brazilian Crush Fragance Mist. I must be the only human on the planet that Sunday Riley Good Genes doesn’t work, it actually makes me to break out in huge gigantic painful cystic pimples that I have to treat with Kate Somerville’s EradiKate that coincidentally looks very similar to that Mario Badescu Drying Lotion.
Does the EradiKate work well? I’ve just recently begun to get some awful cystic acne situations happening and was looking at that for a possible treatment.Â
Yes, I love it. Works fast, but it has a strong smell.

Not much of a make up person, but I love bath products so I made a trip to Sephora for the bum bum cream and oh my gosh. My husband is not a perfume guy and he even raves about the scent. Now I’ve ordered the mist too- glad to see it’s not too heavy. Long time lurker who loves your blog!
I found one of the Wet n Wild Precious Petals highlighters that people went insane over, and it really is fantastic. And not just fantastic for being like $4, but fantastic in general – color and texture. I love the new Tarte Exposed highlighter too!
I got a few Bare Minerals 8 pan eyeshadow palettes recently when they were on major sale, and I love them. They are so soft and blendable and pigmented! All neutrals, but can you EVER have enough neutral eyeshadow palettes??!
My new ‘go to’ for bad dry winter hand lotion is Kheils. It’s
Also spendy but well worth the money during winter months!
I’ve been wanting to try out the Weleda Skin Food Moisturizer. My skin has been disgustingly dry thanks to the cold harsh winter which made me have long hot showers most night. :(
I have really stream lined my makeup collection and routine lately. I still can’t get enough of the Marc Jacobs AirBlush. I recently picked up a new shade called Kink & Kisses. It is the perfect spring blush. Totally worth the splurge, even if the names are naughty and embarassing. Bite Beauty lush lip tint in Black Current and Watermelon are the only lip colors my dry lips have enjoyed this month. I have purchased 7 total tubes since I discovered how incredible it is. I go through them like crazy. I have also been applying Becca Moonstone liquid skin perfector with a small stipple brush to my cheekbones and it is giving my skin such a natural and youthful radiance.
