Tuesday Things.
1. Want to hear something pathetic? I’m looking forward to going on vacation to do a PUZZLE. Like a legit puzzle. We’ve always done them on vacation as a family and it’s relaxing. But on vacation? Why don’t I just do one now.
2. WHOA. I really want this frozen cherry cola slushie. 2017 version, hello!
3. Which is HUGE because I’m in the pregnancy phase where I still don’t want to eat anything sweet. Like one bite of something is too much. It’s so, so weird.
4. I’m very intrigued by the Apple HomePod and sort of interested in the getting an Alexa. TELL ME. What can I do with this thing in my home? Alexa also freaks me out.
5. Freaking Bloodline. I haven’t finished it yet – I’m trying to wait for Eddie. Why can’t he binge watch like I can? So don’t tell me! But it’s so good. I blew through House of Cards in a few days. I found it sort of boring at first but really got into the end. And can we discuss how fantastic Neve Campbell still looks?
6. Puhlease tell me that you saw my summer reading list! I have been so excited ever since I put it together because my summer is going to be SET.
7. May be going to Target once a week just to check out their pool float collection. Feel like a child.
8. Perhaps I need to read up on how to stop saying “um” and “like”? Ummmmm.

I was listening to a podcast the other day and the girls kept saying “um” and “like”. It drove me insane. But, um, hello, like I see um and like all the time. Maybe I need that app even though English is my first language? Also, just started Bloodline last night. Both excited and depressed. Excited to watch, depressed it’s ending!
ha, i totally get this! and i KNOW. so sad that bloodline is over but sort of happy that all 3 seasons ended up being good?!
I was so skeptical of any smart home device. Even though I am far from a conspiracy theorist, I was CONVINCED someone would hear me say some thing stupid like “Ugh I could kill her…” about my sister and Tom Cruise would be busting down my door Minority Report style. Sadly my husband works in tech and couldn’t resist. So now I have a Google Home and… I LOVE IT!!! I use it to quickly set timers in the kitchen, make a grocery list, verbally control Netflix on my Chromecast, play Pandora, I hooked my news up to it and it will just play it to me. I even am using it to help me potty train my puppy. I seriously set a timer for an hour when we walk through the door and forget about it until it reminds me. As someone who also manages a household it is honestly the best thing ever.
HAHAHAH i feel this exact same way!! good to know, abby! thanks!
Pleeease tell me about that flower light thingie in your picture post? Did you make that? It’s so unique and beautiful!
ohhh my heavens no, i didn’t make it. it’s the chandelier in the lobby at our hotel monaco here in pittsburgh!
Regarding Alexa… Kinda creepy, we have one and one night we were watching a movie at home and all of a sudden Alexa starts reading from a book..what the ??
I have not downloaded any books nor did anyone say “Alexa”. So super creepy
We use Alexa for timing (food cooking) and music, weather.
I’m scared to use it for anything else!
right?! i’m freaked out about it too! thanks mara!
We won an Amazon echo Dot and we were excited to try it out, but we don’t like it! We wished that it worked like Google and could answer any question. The only thing we really use it for is playing Spotify while we’re working in the kitchen. I didn’t know you could use it to set timers though!
interesting! thanks melanie!
Alexa is the best for setting timers when your hands are dirty…sometimes she can be a bit of a brat about other things and not listen though! I also like using it for the weather and to play music through the Iheartradio app.
wow, didn’t even think of that! it’d be a lifesaver for me, ha.
I was not about that Alexa life but my boyfriend REALLY wanted one so I caved & got him one for Christmas. It sits on his nightstand & sometimes, she will just randomly say stuff WITHOUT being prompted. It heebs me out SO MUCH.
nooooo this scares me. haha.
Oh wow! The Identicals sounds super fun. I’ll definitely be checking it out.
I like that you put some lazy beach books on there. Mind junk food can be so comforting. What beach did you end up choosing to go to this summer?
The anti-beach book that I read recently was “Little Star” by John Lindqvist. OMG. It was so crazy and disturbing, but really really good. Addicting. Sometimes I had to put it down in order to digest all the craziness….but I have been bugging all my friends to read it because I neeeeed to talk about it with someone.
The puzzle thing reminds me of my husband! My mom buys one for Christmas time, and my husband will spend two days (or however long) hunched over her dining room table, in his pajamas, until it’s done. I help sometimes, but mainly I use his puzzle time to play in my mom’s kitchen, which is far nicer than my own.
puzzles for life! :)
We have more Alexas in our house than actual human family members. I LOVE it. The kids do too, though mostly they ask her to play poop songs. Which she dutifully (ha) performs every time.
hahaha!
If doing puzzles is lame, well… then I’m lame. :) I love them and find it so relaxing! And it’s just like reading a good book, once you get close to the end you just can’t stop! Even if it’s midnight!
YES! so true.
I actually did my first puzzle as an ADULT (I know, sad) and I really enjoyed it–I mean, it was fun! :)
that’s crazy!
OBSESSED with your flower chandelier! The wild flowers and the GREEN *heart eyes emoji*
My wife is reverting into a 16 y.o. and saying ‘like’ EVERY. OTHER. WORD. I want to rip my hair out. I still say ‘obsessed’ and ‘I mean’ but, seriously… I would give anything for her to complete a sentence without the word ‘like’ in it.
ha this made laugh out loud. sorry hannah! bahahah!
Read your reading list! I went out and bought the new Elizabeth Strout novel because I love her stories and The People We Hate at the Wedding because I loved the title!!
We’ve had Alexa for almost 2 years now. I love it! I think my favorite thing is telling it to “add something to the shopping list”. It’s so handy to just say it out loud as I’m thinking of something we need to buy, rather than taking the time to go write it down (first world problems, I know!). Then the list just syncs up to the app on your phone so you have it available anytime. It also has TONS of fun playlists from Amazon Prime Music, you can get the weather report, check sports scores, ask randoms questions…..anyway, I highly recommend it because it’s fun! *We’ve had very few issues with it speaking out loud at random times, and when it does happen, it’s pretty funny. :)
Alexa is my fave — even if I only use my Echo Dot for a hands-free kitchen timer (you can set up multiple timers at once!) and weather announcer. We also have a few TP-Link smart plugs, and it’s great to be able to control lamps and such by talking to her.
We’ve had Echo (Alexa) since it came out, and like it, mostly for playing music and weather forecast. Our son likes the daily Jeopardy feature. Love your summer reading list ; several are on my vacation list. I also want to read The Bright Hour; not a light summer read, but an amazing book! Congrats on baby number 2. You won’t believe how your love expands. 😍
Micheals has pool floats for $5. I may already have purchased a donut and flamingo and considering the swan…
PLEASE REPORT WHEN YOU HAVE FINISHED BLOODLINE. I am dying to know what you think. Also, I’ll be heading up to Pittsburgh next week for a wedding- do you know of anything kid-friendly that’s close to the Omni William Penn? As in, walking distance?
we have an alexa. and yes she randomly turns on here and there. we use her for music a ton, weather, and traffic. you can set it up to your daily commute and ask how the traffic is. also for some timers or for shopping list items. she does poorly answering random questions though i have found. but can answer basic ones like what time is the next X game or something like that. she is better than siri but really….if that is the bar then a monkey would be fine !
