Tuesday Things.
1. How unbelievably stunning is this Bailey’s Chocolate Crunch Cake?
2. I don’t think I told you about how a few weeks ago, I went through the Starbucks drive-thru with ROLLERS IN MY HAIR (before we shot some videos and after I dropped Max off) after stressing over it and being like, who cares, just get coffee, no one will REALLY say anything to you… and the person at the window totally said something to me. She’s like “did you forget to take those out of your hair?” Face palm.
3. Annnnnnd yes I still put hot rollers in my hair because I live in the 90s forever. I guess the 80s. Even though I was, like, five.
4. I feel like it’s soooo talked down upon but um, I am actually obsessed with the idea of doing Elf on the Shelf for Max. In fact, I think that I once (or thrice) mentioned wanted to do it before I had kids so badly that I just wanted to do it for us. I’m not so much concerned with the message of it other than it just seems… super fun. Why does it get such a bad rap?
5. So right now I’m really only watching This Is Us (still killing me, and omg, what is Kevin doing?) and Grey’s Anatomy. I also sort of watch Scandal (the very end got me last week!) and How to Get Away with Murder, even though I’m majorly sucked into Grey’s again. What is this? 2006? I’m also excited but terrified for the Walking Dead to start!
6. It’s no secret that I’m the wordiest person ever and it’s really terrible when it comes to email. I just can’t cut things short. This is interesting though… 4 ways to make your painfully long email shorter. Were they speaking directly to me?
7. Speaking of long emails, I find this email exchange between Pink and Eminem to be hilarious because it’s all so true. Like basically mine and Eddie’s emails, exactly.
8. Did you see that AOL instant messenger is shutting down for good? I didn’t even realize it was still going, but some of my most humiliating memories include my away messages AND what was in my profile. OMG. Just no.
9. Every year at this time I talk about how I really hate dressing up for Halloween. I’m going to have to suck it up eventually so I can dress up for Max (and this new babe!), but I’m also curious as to what you’re dressing up as if you are dressing up! My forever go-to as a kid was Jem. And then a black cat. Reeeeeal creative. I know.

I do the elf thing for my kids and they absolutely love it. For us, it’s all just for fun. I think some people use it as a way to get their kids to behave and some think it’s creepy having the elf watch them. We’re pretty laid back about it…its whatever you make of it, really.
yes! i totally agree. :)
I thought we were going to talk about those wild Donuts!
Is the bacon really crispy on the one on the right?
They all look so enticing, I Can’t decide.
Hey, do you also watch the Voice before “This Is Us”?
i actually have had the voice on the last few weeks before this is us! i am really loving it.
We do the elf on the shelf. It’s fun when your kids are little. When they are bigger and you are running around with sports and stuff, it’s just one more thing to do. I can’t tell you how often I have woken up in a cold sweat, “I forgot the elf!!!”
I also think the doll moving around the house makes Santa’s less believable to a bigger kid.
My girls are 5 and 8. I loved the elf when they were little and I will love him again when they all don’t believe in him. Now? I hate that damn doll.
But you need to do it. When max goes to kindergarten in Pittsburgh, all his friends will have an elf.
Just don’t be crazy ambitious with yours!
love this! yes yes yes, i think i will be the same. :)
Your Tuesday things was just the laugh I needed this week. Hysterical she mentioned your curlers! Love the article to cut down emails, I’ll try bullet points! I’m over Scandal and How to get away with murder. I was die-hard until last season for both. Also, AOL away messages in college……I’m blocking those memories while I die of embarrassment if I saw them now.
thanks cori!! xoxo
We do Elf on a Shelf. My little guy is 9 and totally gets a kick out of looking for the elf every morning in December. The only stressful part is forgetting to move him, but I started saying oh dad left early for work and must’ve made him want to stay where he is or I couldn’t sleep and went down to watch tv for a bit so I guess he got bored waiting for me to leave and took a nap…and then I’ll move him when he’s at school. We don’t really use him to encourage good behavior and we definitely don’t have him do anything naughty in the night. He’s just cute and fun and since I only have one kiddo I really love doing all the things. Especially since he is, against my will, growing at a rapid pace. Although something tells me I’ll be the mom saying, “hey did you find the elf?” to my 18 year old when he comes home from college 😂
bahahaha this makes me think of even now… my brothers and i (all in our 30s…) ask my parents to hide easter eggs every year. HA!
Lol can’t believe she mentioned your curlers! I will be wonder woman this year!

Elf on the Shelf was so much fun for 2 years. Water on year 4 now and it’s not so fun. We’ve done it all from zip lining, roasting marshmallows over candles, gift wrapping the toilet…I’m out of ideas and tired of it. But a blast for awhile. My little one is about Max’s age and he will miss out on it for now because I’m tired of doing it with older sisters (10, 14 and 17)
We do the Elf but in a very tame manner. He just moves around, we don’t do crazy set ups. Just know once you start, you will have to keep it up for years. One thing that helps us is I set a 9:30pm or so daily alarm on my phone (unnamed because my kids can read) that helps remind us to move him but we forget a couple times every year.
we do the same, didn’t set the bar toooooo high for ourselves right out of the gate.
I used to nanny for a family with a 3 year old girl and 6 year old boy and the boy was terrified of the elf! It was actually pretty funny because I asked where the elf was one day and he said “mom told him to go back to the North Pole because (sister) is afraid of him”, but when I asked his sister she denied it. I got the whole story from their mom later and i guess he was so scared of the elf watching him that he couldn’t sleep! I’d like to do it with my son when he is a bit older just for fun, but my husband is afraid of dolls and finds it so creepy… so I’m not sure if he’ll let me. Maybe I’ll get one and surprise him just to creep him out, lol.
Thanks for the LOVE.
I’ve never done Elf on the Shelf because I am lazy. HA. Also, I am going to be a witch this year (I bought a black tulle ballgown skirt and a hooded cloak on amazon) and Casper is going to be a black cat! My best ever costume was a unicorn that also looked like a power ranger somehow.
Elf on the Shelf is great and our elf has become an important part of our family at Christmas time. But beware……it is a lot of WORK!! Also remember don’t start out too big because you will have to top that the next night! ;)
Humiliating away messages –> TOTALLY! I’m cringing.
I just had rollers in my hair on Saturday!!! Buuuuut, it was the first time in AGES, and it was because we were going to a ’70s disco-themed bday party. Haha. ;) I still love rollers though, I just go in phases. :)
You were a jem? And yes to Elf on the Shelf. We do it about 2 weeks out though so it stays exciting. And as others said, friends in school will all have them. I’m a teacher and I once observed two third graders argue about if the Elf comes from a box of Christmas stuff or the North Pole. And I thought, one of your parents is really failing at this.
I’m so curious what kind of curlers you use! I’ve been thinking of getting them again :)
JEM!! OMG my favorite cartoon/show growing up!
That starbucks chick should’ve just kept her mouth shut. I’m sure she’s seen worse. I used to go through the drive thru with my breast pump hooked up.
I LOVE the idea of Elf on the Shelf. I don’t have kids yet but I love the idea. I also think I’d implement a mid-year check-in in July for good measure.
I hate dressing up for Halloween. It’s so much pressure. When I was a kid I always wanted to be a cheerleader. Which is funny because now as a life coach, I’m kind of like a professional cheerleader.
We received the Elf as a present, and after avoiding it the first year, decided to just make it a game. We hide/move it each night. Our kids love it. We don’t do naming, or anything else.
Our family has so much fun with costumes, and I’m not even a costume person. My husband and I have gone as a arborists (we have full gear, since my husband does this on the side), and when I was pregnant, I was the staples button and my husband was a geeky Staples employee, and our family has gone as most of the Wizard of Oz cast (twice), and so on. We don’t like Halloween, but we do have fun with the costumes.
Speaking of shows…I am late to the party but I finally finished season one of The Crown and Narcos! Both so good.
Any other book recommendations?? A friend told me about “The Tea Girl on Hummingbird Lane” so I am going to try it soon.
