Tuesday Things.
1. I will forever be the person who dots her i’s with hearts. Sorry! But not really sorry.
2. And all I want to eat right now are these funfetti macaroons. I think I’m going to make them for Easter!
3. Over the weekend we did the cool whip dyed-egg thing and it was so fun! The result was a pastel marbled egg which I’ve since dubbed the unicorn egg. All you do is roll a hard boiled egg through cool whip that is dyed with food coloring (like above!) and let it sit for 20ish minutes before gently wiping it off.
4. You’ve probably seen it all over the internet, but this conversation about eating right and eating healthy is perfection.
5. Most days I go crazy because Eddie lives his life with the lights dimmed, like in the kitchen, the living rom, etc. I mean, yes, I think there is a place for dim lights (dinner parties? movie nights?) but he loads the dishwasher and folds laundry in dim lighting and I can never see ANYTHING!
6. If you haven’t listened to the goop podcast with oprah, you must! It’s amazing. I am not a goop believe or anything, but the episode with Oprah is amazing and I’ve heard the others are great too.
7. TV things! We’re so excited that Billions is back. I’m still liking Homeland more than at the beginning. But let’s talk about the most important thing… did you see that Scott Speedman is going to be a possible love interest for Meredith on Grey’s?! O.M.G. Break out the Felicity marathon to celebrate.
8. Umm… caboodles are back! In the 90s, I utilized caboodles for makeup but it’s also where I stashed all my friendship-bracelet making string.

OMG Caboodles! I sent this article to my sister and she reminded me of when we outgrew our caboodles and our dad took them and repurposed them as tackle boxes…. which is hilarious bc this article says they were inspired by tackleboxes! Also, my dad was the best and had zero shame in taking a hot pink and purple and teal tacklebox/caboodle fishing!
I’M ALL ABOUT CABOODLES!!! Major part of my childhood.
i heart caboodles !
i can say i very much disagree with the article on eating. as a celiac, i can tell you research shows much higher rates of celiac and gluten intolerance vs what they state in the article. i would tell you i feel sooo much better when im eating meat and low grain. not low carb mind you but low grain. i dont think if you have problems digesting beans it means you should power through with a supplement and eat them anyway. i personally think people are so much more unique than we often realize. what works for one does not work for all. there is no one size or best diet for humans. i know for me the best thing i ever did for my health was stop listening to what others said i “should” eat and start listening to what my body wanted and evaluating how i felt after meals. i think they totally missed the mark.
Tara,
I haven’t read that article, but I do know that a lot of people are self-diagnoising and blaming gluten for their issues. I’ve even met a couple people who claim they have celiac’s disease but have never had anything close to actual celiac’s disease symptoms. (I’m not saying you are one of these – just making a comment.) I’m allergic to wheat (bloodwork confirmed it – it makes me feel like Freddy Kreuger is trying to claw his way out). I read an article that states that it’s more likely the pesticides on the wheat that are causing problems. My doctor told me about an article that the seeds/bulbs of plants are actually being soaked in pesticides before being sold and grown now to “eliminate” pesticides because it’s already in the plant. You can’t even wash it off (if it was a piece of fruit for example). :( There are more and more people with food issues and nothing seems to be changing, especially when the answer is to soak the seeds in pesticide!!! Definitely listen to your body. You have to live with the consequences. :)
Not to worry i have a full celiac diagnosis from a doctor. What you are saying about pesticides doesnt make sense to me. if that were the case, the “cure” for celiac and gluten intolerance would just be to buy organic. I think people are more aware now of food issues. you can also have something like celiac and not have massive digestive symptoms. I didn’t. i was tested due to other things like hair loss, eczema, and very mild stomach issues which came and went. What i didnt realize was how good i would feel once i eliminated it from my diet. As you state, listening to your body is best. I just feel like an article like this which paints with broad strokes helps to perpetuate the feeling that so many people feel of “but shouldn’t i eat X”
I didn’t mean to imply that the pesticides (or elimination of them) were to blame for celiac disease. I meant people with wheat allergies or intollerences, like me, that it could actually be the pesticides. I know the preservatives used in a lot of foods are major triggers for me as well. As for organic, that’s not the answer either. Organic produce still uses pesticides, just a different type. It would be nice if it were that easy. :)
Also, I didn’t mean to imply you hadn’t been diagnoised by a doctor. I just know too many people have no idea what gluten actually is (besides being in bread and pasta) and they self-diagnois themselves as “allergic to gluten.” It’s a huge disservice to people who actually celiac disease or have gluten sensitivities. My friend’s mother had celiac disease and had such a severe reaction, that her diet was *very* restrictive. I don’t wish it on anyone.
You’re right, people are more aware of food issues, but I also feel that there are more food issues than ever. Peanut allergies were almost unheard of when I was growing up. Now kids can’t even bring peanut butter sandwiches to school because classmates are so allergic they can’t even risk touching someone who has touched peanut butter. I just hope someone is trying to figure out what’s happening with food now vs what food was like decades ago so that future generations are reduced to eating a pill as their whole meal. :(
And when I finally read the article, it was a little confusing. I think they were trying to be funny in parts of it, but missed the mark. Some of the information got lost in the “banter” of it and some of it didn’t make sense or ring true to what we’ve been taught. :/
#teamlightsdimmed
I have dimmers in every room of my house. #teamlightsdimmed
my husband is the same way with the lights!! Ugh! When I get home I walk around the house and turn all our lights on all the way! He will walk around and turn everything off..drives me bonkers! I once lived in a poorly lit house (very little windows) and it was the most depressing thing ever!! I vowed to live in bright light forever!
I’m glad I’m not the only one in a light war with my husband! LOL
OMG… I just got my caboodles out for my 3 year old to put her treasures in!! My mom literally kept all my childhood toys lol.
Speaking of TV…have you watched Schitt’s Creek on Netflix? It’s w/ Eugene Levy and his son and it is the most amazing thing I have seen on TV in ages. It’s literally laugh out loud funny. The episodes are just 20 mins, so it’s not a huge commitment. The premise is that this super wealthy family gets ripped off their fortune and has to go live in this tiny town in the middle of nowhere. I think you would love it!
Jessica! Did you see you’re up for best blogger in the Pittsburgh Magazine?

Um I really hope you read the babysitters club back in the day bc your i’s are Stacey McGill!

What IS IT with men and walking around in the dark? My husband come home and promptly turns all the lights down or off. It’s his most annoying THING. I should be able to walk freely around my home without walking into walls or not know if there’s an axe murderer hiding in the hallway!!
I have the very opposite issue – most of our lights are on dimmers and my husband just flips the switch and blinds me! I agree with having enough lighting to do whatever you may be doing but I don’t have to be able to land a plane on my kitchen island!!!
I still have my original Caboodle!!! Can’t believe they are back.
A word about the Caboodles. I haven’t checked the Urban Outfitters listing lately BUT when I bought mine before Christmas (in a moment of weakness after spilling an entire cup of coffee creamer all over my front passenger seat and feeling horrible about myself) it was marked as “vintage.” VINTAGE?!?! Ugh. Anyway, that didn’t stop me and I forked over my $10 happily for the mint/lavender color combo. When it showed up it was teeny tiny. Nowhere near the full size Caboodle of the 90s. I was already mad about UO calling something I had as a preteen “vintage” but then I was really annoyed. I kept it anyway, but it won’t even fit my go-to daily products.
My husband does the same thing with lights. I love lights. I’ll be in the room and my husband will turn the lights off! Sometimes I feel like I should just wear two eye patches since I can’t see anyway with the ridiculously low light! LOL
I still have my Caboodle!
OMG. Ben on Grey’s might just get me to tune back in! (Scott Speedman will forever be Ben, just like Scott Foley will forever be Noel) I LOVED Felicity!!!!!!!
I tried the cool whip egg dye-ing method. Not sure what I did wrong but it was kinda a bust. I did leave a couple of eggs in the frig overnight with the fluff on and those are more intensely colored but sadly lots of grey. Sad face.
