Tuesday Things.
1. While I have a bunch of trips coming up for the book tour, we finished the first of three difficult ones and traveling with kids is no joke! I mean, if it was just me now I could live out of my suitcase and stuff until July. But I can’t!
2. Speaking of, I started to read The Great Alone a few weeks ago but didn’t get into it. I thought I could read on the plane but HAHAHAHAHA. Point being – this is what I’m reading now. Kristin Hannah has always been one of my favorite authors.
3. Um, also. I used packing cubes for the first time ever and I think my life may be changed.
4. These out-of-this-world cocoa brownies were made for me!
5. Every year at this time I talk about how I think Coachella would be my absolute worst nightmare. I mean, I’m not changing my tune completely on that, but some of the instagram pics actually look FUN! Beyonce, yes of course. Maybe I’m just a little stir crazy from being cooped up all winter. Which is still happening, by the way. WINTER what.
6. I need an electric kettle in my life. Suggestions?
7. TV things! So I’m reeeeally back into Homeland now, even though this week was a little boring. Crazy-then-medicated Carrie is the best Carrie. Claire Danes is such an amazing actor. And heartbreaking. Oooh and Billions. Can we please just have SOMETHING with Axe and Wendy? Anything? Please?
8. How to clean up your overwhelmed email inbox. Um. Yes please.
9. Guys! I ended up buying the pink glitter mask while I was in NYC and I used it on Sunday night. Not only did it DYE MY FACE PINK, it left legit huge chunks of glitter on my skin that I couldn’t remove for hours! Those were the only cons though. If you consider neon pink skin a con.

We have https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003KYSLNQ?tag=thewire06-20&linkCode=xm2&ascsubtag=AgEAAAAAAAAAAOwZ and LOVE it. We use it like 10 times everyday, and the temperature controls are perfect for all of our different drinks and temp preferences. It’s an investment, but such a highly used item that it’s worth getting a good one!

I have this kettle for a year and it’s still going strong. I love this thing!

The Great Alone was really interesting; dark and hard to read at some points, but unlike anything I had ever read before. I didn’t love the last 1/4 but I’ve been in a bit of a book slump lately and am maybe a bit too critical. For me, not as great as The Nightingale but I enjoyed reading about something I knew very little about. Why the heck (not the word I actually want to use…) is it still winter?! *looks outside where it is currently snowing after a 3 days ice storm*
I listened to the audiobook of The Great Alone. I’m not sure I could have read the book itself (see “dark and hard to read at some points” above), but listening made it a bit easier, I think. It was the first book I’ve listened to that was narrated by Julia Whelan — it won’t be the last. She is fantastic!
I use this electric kettle everyday — bonus is that it’s so pretty! :)

I’ve had a Breville kettle for about 10 years. It boils water in a flash and keeps it hot for so long thanks to the insulation. I love it for tea and pour-over coffee.
The OXO On Adjustable Temperature Electric Pour-Over Kettle has been life changing for us! We use it every day and it’s great if you drink different kinds of tea because you can easily pick the right temperature.
OMG I have the black glitter mask and I have had the left over glitter problem but NOT the face dyeing issue. What. The. Heck. I think maybe I’m just not that into peel off masks. Or face dye.
Billions! yes to the Axe/Wendy thing… but isn’t that how they keep us hooked? the tension the possibility? sigh. I gave up on Homeland a while ago. I don’t watch a lot of TV so I have to be IN.
super interested in people’s links to the electric kettle because they seem amazing and I’ve been thinking about one, too
as for glitter masks? just.. no. I can’t do anything on my skin that has glitter in general. It will leave rash anyway.. so I can just imagine me being dyed pink and splotchy and also chunks of glitter. very glam. LOL
Neon pink glitter skin is not a con says the woman who is still using her glitter hairspray from Halloween 😂
I have a Cuisinart Electric Kettle and I love it and use it every day: https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CPK-17AMZ-Cordless-Programmable-Stainless/dp/B06XF97BTH
Which packing cubes do you use? Thinking about getting some for our trip to Hawaii this summer…
Have you tried glamglow supermud? Seriously the best face mask I’ve ever used!
I love Breville kettles!!!! They’re really well made and last a long time! They’re also not hideous (which lets face it, some are). 😊
I’ve had this Breville kettle for years! And it’s great!! Heats the water fast, isn’t too loud, and looks fine in the kitchen! :)

Apparently electric kettles are SUPER finicky and break all the time?! And also the really beautiful ones have awful Amazon reviews AND don’t even have temp control. (Looking at you, pistachio green Smeg!!!)
ANYWAY, I have the Bonavita one that the Sweethome recommends and it’s been great: https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/the-best-home-kettle/
Hi! I love my Bella Ceramic electric tea kettle (we have the blue aztec design) – it looks pretty on our counter and I’ve used it almost every morning this past year+ and haven’t had a problem. (FYI – it is heavier than other kettles I’ve used, but that doesn’t bother me.)

Go Pens!
I didn’t realize until recently (like in the last year) that electric kettles aren’t common in the US. I’m from Canada and I can’t remember a time my family or I didn’t have one! I have one with a temperature selector and definitely recommend that feature!
Smeg kettle. Aesthetically pleasing, many colors, and it adequately heats water. Enough said
I totally had to look up packing cubes but I for sure need them in my life! I’ve used ziplock bags to keep outfits together. Packing cubes seem much more sophisticated!
LOVED The Great Alone….but you HAVE to read Educated….will blow your mind! xxoo
Keep going with The Great Alone! I got really into it and was surprised along the way.
Electric kettles are the best in Australia everyone has one. I was surprised when I lived in the US it wasn’t a really a thing!
The Breville variable temperature kettle is amazing- especially if you are into tea or pour over coffee! My boyfriend and I use it daily!
We got this kettle for our wedding about three years ago. Use it every day and it’s still chugging along beautifully. Five different temps and a magical keep hot button so that you can multitask without having to worry about a tea kettle screaming at you on the stove. Plus you can use a 20% off coupon for BB&B!

If you don’t want chemicals leaching into your family’s water from the plastic found in almost all kettles (even some stainless-interior ones have plastic gaskets), this one on Amazon is a great choice. Fun colors and it’s insulated too so no risk of burning little fingers if they touch it. https://www.amazon.com/Secura-SWK-1701DB-Original-Stainless-Electric/dp/B011BE7V8W/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1524055924&sr=8-3&keywords=Stainless+electric+kettle&dpID=41kVngJGW%252BL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
This is my favorite electric kettle – works great and looks super classy!

I have an Aroma brand electric kettle at work, and a mint green Kitchen Aid at home which I love!
I have this electric kettle https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/breville-variable-temperature-kettle/?pkey=celectrics-teakettles&isx=0.0.1607
I love it. I really wanted to try the SMEG (because they are so cute!!) but after researching them I found that they just were not worth the money. People said the letters were falling off like a month into using them. I have other Breville products that I love so I gave this one a shot. Its pretty awesome!
I only discovered that Americans don’t use electric kettles a few months ago and thought it was sooooo weird. Then last week I discovered it’s because the lower voltage there means it takes too long to heat the water. It’s still the weirdest thing, but it makes a lot more sense now. An electric kettle and a toaster are the first two things you buy when you move out of home in Australia!!
packing cubes changed my life! they are seriously the best. its the little things, right?!
sad that i’m not completely sure if a hot pink face IS a bad thing…
