Tuesday Things.
1. So. Who else goes out and does a huge grocery run and then gets so hungry that when you get home that you insist on ordering take out? Or going out to eat? This is my life.
2. How perfect is this simple chocolate cake with ganache? Oh my gosh.
3. It almost feels sacrilegious to put these strawberries in a dessert – they are THAT sweet. It’s the one time of year when I can agree that fruit is dessert.
4. That Billions finale. OMG. First, I absolutely loved the ending. Loved loved loved it. Like it was pretty much what I was waiting for and hoping for after we had them team up in the middle of the season. Taylor? Ugh. I’m torn between wanting them to go down but also rooting for them since they are right – Axe did teach them to be like that! I just loved it all. Such a good show. Oh and also… I started watching Southern Charm. From the beginning!
5. The self-checkout at Target is terrifying. Like have you ever looked up while you’re standing there and BOOM. Your huge face is on a huge screen and you’re staring at yourself and you just want it to stop.
6. The boring-ness of my life this entire week is becoming apparent since I just wrote about grocery shopping TWICE.
7. I adore Jocelyn’s take on her birthday. Those paragraphs she wrote? Sound like they came right out of my brain too. I can totally relate!
8. From the time I was a young kid, I’ve had weird anxiety about tornados. I mean, I was/am petrified of them – and we don’t even live in an area where they are common. I don’t know where it stemmed from (maybe the Wizard of Oz? ha.) but I can’t stop watching this video of storm chasing. Insane.
9. Name your best s’mores combination. Ready set go! (p.s. I’m thinking mine would include pretzels.)

I swear, it’s like you’re inside my brain! First, LOVE Southern Charm, but only the original. New Orleans is seriously boring. Cam is our people – weird and unapologetic about it.
Also, why do I feel like a criminal when I see myself on that self-checkout screen? It instantly makes me sweaty even though I’m not doing anything wrong! Like are they watching me? I usually only do self-checkout to avoid judgement on my random purchases, and now this?!
Lastly – ALWAYS get drive-through food or takeout after a big grocery shop.
The self-check camera at Target has got to be the least flattering reflection I ever see of myself. It’s gotta be some combination of the lighting and the angle, but heaven help me I look fresh from the crypt every time.
Same!!!! I’ll feel like I look decent and then I look up into that monitor and I’m like W H O A. yesterday I went to target right after the gym (aka sweaty and makeup-less) and made the mistake of looking up. Yikes.
I came down to the comment section to say the exact opposite lol! For some reason my skin always looks so clear and fresh on those Target cams. Maybe I’m just shopping at the ones with fancy cams!
Hungry and tired by the time I put it all away-don’t want to think about cooking and cleaning up.
When I return starving from a grocery run, I typically eat a little bit of everything I bought and end up not making dinner even though making dinner was usually a large part of the reason I went to the grocery store in the first place…
I purposely buy prepared food at the grocery store to eat when I get home. Not a chance am I cooking after that.
Seriously! The self checkout at Target is so stressful. There is no actual checkout person at my Target until 9:30 which is TOO late!
#1 & #5 are my life. every time.
I put kettle cooked potato chips on my s’mores and it is amazing!
that sounds amazing!!! salty anything works for me
I almost always get a “snack” when I go grocery shopping (my Harris Teeter makes great sushi). My favorite s’mores uses Chuao Chocolatier Pretzel Toffee Twirl Bar for the chocolate. We like to have girls’ nights and buy a bunch of fancy chocolate bars to make them over a fire pit and that one has definitely been the best!
s’mores = Pepperidge Farm bordeaux cookies plus toasted marshmallow plus nutella. I bet it would be fantastic to add strawberries into that combo.
I love self-checkout! Not a fan of Target’s camera though.
And I am terrified of tornadoes. The movie Twister gave me nightmares. I grew up in central Indiana, where we had weekly siren tests and monthly drills at school and all that, and I did experience several close calls where we had to shelter in place… so scary. I moved to TN thinking I’d be away from most of that – and lo and behold, a few years after moving here, we were smack dab in the middle of the April 2011 tornado super-outbreak. SCARIEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE. So… yeah. Tornadoes SUCK.
I started watching Southern Charm from the beginning several weeks ago! My 69 year old FATHER got me hooked! LOL – he loves all things Bravo.
Firstly, try to ignore the current controversy in the news about Thomas Ravenel, while watching earlier seasons of Southern Charm. Secondly, here’s my ideal s’mores combination = white chocolate bar segments, a slather of macadamia nut butter, gooey/extra toasty marshmallow, all sandwiched between two hearty graham crackers.
I LOVE cookies and cream s’mores! I take chocolate graham crackers and sandwich them between marshmallows and Hershey’s cookies and cream candy bars. Yum!!
Curious where you found Southern Charm to watch from the beginning? Did you purchase them all on iTunes? I just started this season and EVERYONE tells me I need to watch from the beginning to get the full flavor of Thomas and Kathryn.
I’m also the weirdo that is trying to look into my Target checkout camera to see if I can get a view from the other camera behind me to see how I look from behind. None of it is pretty.
Omg. Me. 100%. On Sunday I bought $90 worth of groceries and then got home and ordered Thai.
I once used granola thins instead of graham crackers for s’mores. They were amazing and made my s’mores health food 😉
Oh my gosh, Southern Charm is stellar bad reality TV. For real. And each season gets better. Can’t wait to hear how you like it!
I love Southern Charm! Have watched it since the beginning. Tornadoes!! That was an awesome video. I grew up in the Chicago area & always had drills. Now I’m in Florida and dread hurricane season! I can remember growing up that my mom always came home from shopping with fried chicken from the deli, potato salad, and baked beans!! I think every generation of women is exhausted after shopping and putting things away!!
#8. Tornadoes. Pittsburgh kid terrified of them. For me it was definitely the Wizard of Oz. I had nightmares every night, hid in the basement of it got too windy, and had a little suitcase packed and ready to roll it one hit. As an adult much better but it’s still there. I get it.
So true about the grocery store! It’s like I exhaust all my energy in buying food that I couldn’t possibly make it. Sometimes, I buy the rotisserie chicken at the store for that reason and roast some veggies. Bought and prepared. BOOM!
S’mores combo anything expect mint chocolate sandwiches between 2 ritz crackers!! The buttery fally cracker goodness mixed with marshmallow and chocolate —- sooooooooo delicious!
I think the best s’mores I ever made was a chocolate caramel square, gigantic roasted marshmallow and 2 coconut macaroons. Utterly decadent!
I wasn’t afraid of tornados because I live in CT, it wouldn’t really happen here. In May of this year, one ripped through New Fairfield, Brookfield, Newtown, Southbury, Oxford and Hamden – destroying everything. Houses were destroyed, roads were impassable for a week and power took a week to come back. I have never been so scared in my entire life. It lasted all of 5 minutes. And what’s funny, very few people outside of our area even knew the towns were destroyed….it was bizarre. So I get your fear – I’ll never forget it as long as I live.
I told my kids that the monitor at Target is Santa’s monitor bc he’s always watching.
Ritz crackers + York peppermint patty + toasted marshmallow!
I mean not to be rude guys but smores? How have you gone so wrong??? Ok ok that’s fine. (“Kate, it’s OK! Not everybody has to be like you!) For me the only way acceptable is graham cracker+ hersheys milk chocolate+ marshmallow. I’ve tried quite a few different ways but the classic remains my favorite!😍
This sounds weird, but try Raclette cheese on a s’more. You won’t regret it!!
I never liked s’mores as a kid. I am a dark chocolate person
I upped the game and went fancy with things I had on hand fresh from grocery shopping in the high end grocery.
Effie’s Oatcakes (buttery and kind of salty)
Black pepper marshmallows
Very thin bittersweet chocolate
I really liked them and they went on a plate with a couple of big strawberries.
Voila dessert! ( had my first s’more in 1959 my age was 9.) They were hard to wrangle!
i am also a bit irrationally scared of tornadoes and thunder storms but i know where it stems from. my grandpa told me a story of one of his friends that the guy said lets go to bed and the lady said no lets finish watching whatever they were watching. and a thunderstorm was going and lightning struck their bed. This scared me so much cuz i was like 7. my mom was so mad at him for telling me that cuz all i seemed to hear was during a storm your bed was the last place you want to be. i would get up in the middle of the night if it was raining and be terrified. i swear i sorta still am today ! my boyfriend laughs at me that i dont want any large trees anywhere near the house and i wont shower if its storming. funny how the oddest things stick with you forever !
You need to start watching YOUNGER. Best summer binge. I mean Hillary Duff is amazing. #TeamCharles
