life with emilia: eleven months in.
I’m coming in super late with a quickie eleven month update for the happiest baby in the universe!
I don’t even know how this child exists. I love her so freaking much. She is the sweetest, happiest chunk of love.
We are finally getting teeth!! The tricky part is that they all seem to be coming in at once. Poor babe is waking up so much at night to comfort nurse.
It’s so funny that this is happening right now because otherwise I think Emilia would probably wean herself. She is SO uninterested in nursing throughout the day. She easily goes twelve hours sometimes without nursing, even if I’m attempting to feed her a few times throughout the day. it just blows my mind how night and day different this is from Max. I mean, I’m pretty sure he would still be nursing if I hadn’t stopped in order to hopefully get pregnant with Emilia.
Max is still so super snuggly and Emilia could care less about snuggling. It’s crazy! There have been a few of these nights where her teeth are really bugging her and I nurse her and rock her and she will snuggle for a second. Then she’s basically like MOM PUT ME BACK IN MY CRIB SEE YA LATER.
I secretly love her strong independence at the age of eleven months, haha. Sounds so weird but I’m already feeling like she is such a strong girl and I LOVE it.
Hmmmm what else.
She loves food. Like LOVES it. Eats every single thing. Wants whatever someone else is eating. She is such a great eater!
Sleeps okay, but awful right now from the teeth. Before the teeth came, she’d still wake up once or twice a night. I feed her and don’t mind. It’s going so fast – this time will be gone in a flash.
She is super tiny (Max was/is too) and still only weighs like 17 pounds. At 3 years old Max only weighs like 28 pounds so it’s crazy that there are around ten pounds between them. He is super long and lean. She’s on the same track as he was at this age though, which I wasn’t expecting! Still wearing mostly 6 month clothing, but all brands are different. Such a little peanut. Everywhere we go, people think she is six or seven months old.
What’s crazy is that her little feet are so long and narrow. My mom has really narrow feet too (and she looks so much like my mom as a baby!) so maybe it comes from her – but the thing is that she REFUSES to keep shoes on her feet. First, none will stay on because her feet are so narrow. Even with socks! I have like five pairs of freshly picked moccs for her because Max lived in those and they are so great for when they start walking. Even the size 1 just gapes on her foot. If she only has on socks, she rips them off instantly. And now that it’s getting cold out, I can’t have a barefoot babe!
Her feet are so tiny but she is dying to walk. Actually, dying to run. When she is pushing a toy, she goes full speed ahead! I don’t think she will walk before her birthday, but she is definitely getting close. Probably just in time to attack the Christmas tree in another month.
She is very rarely unhappy and I don’t know how lucky I got, having two babies who are just so happy.
With that being said, now that we are coming around to one full year together, I seriously feel like I went from having one kid to having ten when I had Emilia. Not because she is a handful. She’s super easy going and takes amazing naps and is happy everyday. But having two kids is SO hard. It’s wild and loud and the house always feels like it’s a mess and stuff is everywhere and due to their age difference, they don’t nap at the same time. I swear that Emilia’s naps bookend Max’s one nap, so one of them is always awake. And she won’t be down to one nap for awhile. It.is.exhausting.
I am still loving it though. I can’t imagine not getting to be with them every day. They are so perfect!
And the difficultness from day to day has not deterred me from wanting more kids either. We reeeeally want more but I keep getting freaked out about my age.
And that’s us at eleven months! I’ll be back oh-so fast for a YEAR update. HOW!!?
xoxo

Yay thank you for sharing your adorable kiddos! Makes my day every single time!
Don’t freak out too much about your age! I had my first at 40 and my second at 44 – no issues with either of them!! And I completely agree that adding the second baby turns your house into a zoo!! But a zoo filled with love!
I wait forever for baby posts! Love Max and Emilia so much. Baby Emilia is seriously mini Jessica! Looks just like her mama!

It’s crazy to see your kids come into existence and then grow so much already. I’ve been following you since well before you were even pregnant with Max, so it’s just wild to see your family grow! I can’t believe how big Max is, and Emilia is just gorgeous – her eyes are amazing.
It’s funny that you say that Max is snuggly, and that Emilia isn’t at all. My niece and nephew are the same way. The boy is very snuggly, and the girl is not having it! Lol.
Go for it, I wish I could have another now, but I’m 55.
I had my 2 at 37 and 42. There wasn’t a problem. I have 2 beautiful active girls. I love them.
Enjoy the craziness. Look for ways to simplify (fewer toys, activities, etc). Give lots of kisses. Your children are lovely.
Hooray!!! I wait for these updates all the time and I’ll be very sad when they are over!
I’m 32 and no kids (or husband…or even boyfriend…) but I want them SO MUCH and anticipate I’ll be having them at a “later” age *insert shrugging emoji here* I love fawning over friends’ kids and kids of bloggers I follow! :)
I can’t believe she’s almost one! (And selfishly hope you do have more as Max and Emilia are the cutest kids…love these updates!)
She is a doll! Both of your kids have the prettiest, great big eyes! May I ask where you got the “entire” outfit in the first pic? (Pink knitted dress, polka dot tights and headband) I’ve never seen anything like that anywhere ! So cute!
Hey, look at the Duchess of Sussex…I think she just turned 37 and is having her first and I imagine another will follow in a couple of years. If the Duchess can do it, so can you, ha! I wolud say if both pregnancies were uneventful…I remember you working pretty much through both…then you should go for it. You have the luxury of working from home and also are savvy enough to employ others to help you.
Enough of my two cents. Your children are adorable and I can almost see sweet Emilia’s independence shinning through in your photos. Thanks for sharing your little family with all your followers.
I had mine at 30, 32, and 35. They’re now 6yo, 4yo, and 16mo. After 35 you’re considered “of advanced maternal age”, which means you are offered more tests to ensure baby is developing and watched a little more closely. I did not do any of the additional tests nor any of the standard optional ones (I don’t remember exactly what it’s called but I believe there’s one for Down syndrome). And all 3 kids are healthy!
As a long time follower of yours, I love these updates as well! You have a beautiful family.
And I’ll also say I had my first child at 36, and just had baby number two at age 40! I can’t remember how old you are, but I know you are younger than me so I say girl, go for it if you want more babies! If I were just 5 years younger I’d want more!
She is your absolute twin! She looks exactly like you in the second picture!!
My daughter (who is exactly 5 months older than Emilia) got her teeth really late too, after she was a year old. Now she has 4 coming in at once, and poor thing is so snotty! But so happy.
Emilia is such a lovely baby, thank you for sharing with us! I absolutely love your baby updates :)
Zutano shoes! We had the fattest baby feet, but these stay on everyone and have the rubber on the bottom so they won’t slip. They are amazing. She’s adorable!
They are both SO cute and I can’t thank you enough for sharing them with all of us. Emilia’s eyes are so pretty, especially as she grows into them. I love how you take everything in stride, like the waking up at night, knowing it won’t last forever. It definitely does not. Take care and thank you again <3
Go for more babies! Modern medicine – and our culture – have made it so much more common for babies at a later age.
Also, I have always loved baby updates, but my first is six months younger than Emelia and now I’m reading these obsessively to see what’s next!
I absolutely loved reading this! My baby boy just turned 9 months and he’s a skinny baby too! We went through quite the battle to get him to like a bottle and drink formula (he was getting too skinny and needed to supplement). He’s like Max and loves to nurse. I’m pretty sure he wishes I had extender straws so he could nurse in the go 😂
Although I am a grandmother now, I remember when I had my second and I thought the same things. He changed my life as dramatically as the first. The very good news is that the third and fourth were easy and I didn’t notice the same kind of big difference
I always love your updates about little ones! Especially as we have kids similar in age – I have a three-year-old and a one-year-old (just turned one). So your updates are always very relevant. I feel the same way about having a third child (I’m 38) as well. But I’d really like to try for a girl (both mine are boys), so fingers crossed that it happens some day. Anyway, love the update, the food, the website, all of it! Here’s my two: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn8uqwhhuzz/?utm_source=ig_web_button_share_sheet
Glad I am not the only one with smaller kids. G weighed 21lbs at 1 and E weighed 16lbs! They literally eat SO much, though. They gain weight slowly. They absolutely do not take after their dad or me😂. Lol! Also- the shoe struggle is real…even for us at 2.5 years!
I love reading these posts. <3
