Tuesday Things.
1. I mentioned it over the weekend but I get ridiculously energized and motivated and READY TO WORK in the fall. Something about this season is more like a new start than January to me. Why is that! I want to carry it over through the new year.
2. All of a sudden I’m completely enamored with making homemade grape juice.
3. Last week I took the kids to get flu shots and the nurse put on the baby shark song (?) in order to distract them. I had never heard the song and… now… I can’t hear anything else. It’s been stuck in my head for days and I wake up in the middle of the night with it playing over and over.
4. Here are 22 life changing podcast episodes. Yessss.
5. And these are the best basic self care questions and answers I’ve seen. All in one place.
6. Okay so TV things! I really liked both This Is Us and a Million Little Things again. I’m more emotionally invested in This Is Us and Randall kills me every week. Heartbreaking! What’s up with the Grey’s anatomy thing with Jackson? I need some new shows.
7. Does anyone else hope that with all the Facebook hacking stuff this past weekend that Facebook might just… disappear? Would not be sad. Nope not one bit.
8. Guys my recipe fails this past week have been out of control. I don’t know why but I thought that olives and pomegranates would be a good combo. Just wait for this year’s disaster post.

Hey, the self care thing is from the college I attended :) Also, we have a grapevine and every year I plan to make juice, and every year I…don’t make juice.
Thanks for sharing the self-care checklist and the podcast list. I’m always on the lookout for new stuff to listen to.
As for Facebook, yeah, I wish it would disappear too. Though I like being able to keep in contact with my friends from around the globe, I hate what the platform has become (especially the ads). A couple of weeks ago I decided to curtail my use of it significantly and I’m not regretting it one bit.
Baby shark reminds me of my childhood – which is exactly where I wish it would stay. It gets so stuck in your head!
New show – I’ve gotten into Manifest as well – I don’t know if I will love it forever, but really like it so far!
Is it sad that the only real thing I would miss from Facebook in the Pretty Dish Book Club?!
agree about fall feeling like the start of the year! I get the same feeling to revamp routines and start working towards goals – way more now than January.
baby shark is amazing.. and now it’s stuck in my head, too.
facebook: it’s a necessary evil at this point. I have a love/hate relationship with it. I love that it’s so easy to connect with groups (Pretty Dish, school parents groups/fundraising and my family that’s afar- which is a lot of them), but I loathe what the feed has become- filled with ads and junk and not seeing anything in consecutive order. sigh. I just don’t know what platform to use that is something everyone has access to in those groups above.. so here we are.
I have no new shows and This Is us is hanging on by a thread. I find it exhausting that every single conversation has to Mean Something. But I love the actors… so we will see. Basically this fall I’m uninspired by TV and plan to start watching shows on Netflix/Prime that I’ve never had time for.
Thanks for sharing that self-care list! It’s sort of like the aloe bud app but much more thorough and applicable to me.
Would not miss Facebook either. I keep saying I’m going to participate in my FB groups at least but I can’t even get around to that, and it’s the only thing I use it for. That site and everyone involved with it can suck it.
I’ve been truly failing at watching anything new, so much so that I started a SECOND rewatch of Cougar Town a few weeks ago and I keep defaulting to watching that instead of anything else — even my other on-going rewatches seem like too much work. Bah.
I’m super invested in this is us too. Randall totally has his stuff together this season but I’m really into Kate’s struggles right now and oh Toby. Was wondering if you were doing a million little things. I really like it so far. Love Gary. I’m wondering about so much though… like does the secretary know? Did they have something going on too?
My husband introduced our kids to Baby Shark and now I want to introduce my husband’s face to my fist every time I have to hear that damn song.
That self care list is excellent! It is important to take time and check in on ourselves every now and again, that list is a great reminder. Thank you for sharing!
I read this and now I have baby shark stuck in my head, so… thanks!
Did you know Amazon Prime has a tv “show” that each episode (1-2 minutes) is signing Baby Shark–but they are dressed for different holidays?! My kids are obsessed. I teach preschool, so I can tune it out pretty good;-)
If you like This is Us and A Million Little Things, and you liked Grey’s Anatomy, I recommend checking out The Good Doctor. It’s in season 2 now, but it’s really good. It’s about a dr on the autism spectrum, and Toby from West Wing shows up :).
6.) Have you tried watching Riverdale? Were you an Archie comics fan and/or a Luke Perry fan?
7.) As you might remember, I happily got rid of Facebook a loong time ago. I honestly don’t get why people keep using it… Facebook is awful and unsafe. Soapbox now stored away ;)
You should try Single Parents. It’s hilarious to parents and non-parents. Much needed comedy with your current tv lineup 😉
I also second Riverdale. And if you haven’t started The Bold Type yet, you’re two seasons behind and you’ll surely be able to finish them this week.
Call me dramatic but I just threw up in my mouth a little bit THINKING of putting pomegranates and olives in my mouth at that same time lol. I’m also majorly pregnant so you never know when that’s actually going to happen. Love your disaster posts!!
I love your end-of-the-year posts with your recipe fails. :-) They make me feel so much better when I have some of my own! Even though your recipe fails still look 99% better than most people’s, lol. I was on a recipe fail for about a week, and it was really frustrating. Then things all magically clicked back together, and it was like nothing bad had ever happened–I was so relieved!!
One of my favorite dips has olives and pomegranates! You are not crazy, try again! It’s weird, but I love it, especially with Stacy’s Pita Chips. Mmmm. I need to go make that now. https://www.womansday.com/food-recipes/food-drinks/recipes/a39898/green-olive-walnut-pomegranate-dip-recipe-fw1114/
For a new show, try The Good Place – First two season are on Netflix and 3rd season is airing. If you liked Parks and Rec or Brooklyn 99, you’d probably like it because its from the same creators. Very cute and good hearted. Starts a little odd because they’re world building but from the 3rd episode on, they burn through plot like crazy.
Also now Baby Shark is stuck in my head.
As for Baby Shark – once you’ve gotten it stuck in your head (the fast version), do yourself a favor and watch the Late Night with James Corden version, it’s softer and a little bit more pleasant to have stuck in your head. It was a bit of relief once I heard that one, since I embraced that it was going to be there no matter what.
I feel the same way about Fall, and this year I decided to make September my new January. I feel so much less motivated in January, so I thought why bother? In September, I started waking up at 5AM, started doing yoga, and got back into writing and blogging! Killin it this fall!!
OMG i wish i had some of your energy this fall. im the opposite…feels like im starting winter blahs WAY to early.
I have no idea what baby shark is and will not google it since you all seem to think its awful and i dont need a song stuck in my head LOL.
Thanks for the podcast list. i need more (but not really cuz i cant keep up). always looking for ones i can 1/2 listen to while at work !
I totally agree– I feel a million times more motivated as the weather gets chillier. As much as my husband doesn’t like winter and after a while it can be a lot (it ices over more than it snows where we live), I feel like I could live somewhere that perpetually feels like fall and get a lot more done! ;)
I love that self care list. Admittedly, I just printed it and will be posting it somewhere around my house. I’ve had a pretty anxious last few weeks, so I’ve been on the hunt for ways to identify it in the moment and find solutions. Thank you so much!
Also, I’m not entirely sure how I know that baby shark song, because I don’t have kids, but I wonder how old it is…? When I saw you mention it in this post, it just came to mind. Maybe I heard it while babysitting in college! :P
I think Grey’s Anatomy seems a little off this year – like they may have changed head writers or something. I wonder if the actor who plays Jackson is off making a movie or something and they have to write him out for a while, though it does seem sudden.
I was a little nervous about trying A Million Little Things, but really like it so far. The characters are so interesting.
Still hanging in there with This Is Us. Love all the Pittsburgh references, even when they get them wrong! I live in Ohio now and can’t wait for the day I get to move back!
We love Baby Shark in our house but we’ve had it for well over a year. Maybe you missed it because your kids aren’t in daycare? Mine really love the Super Simple Songs version, it’s on youtube and spotify. There’s an adorable Halloween version too. If you allow any screen time, I highly recommend the Youtube channel. It’s highly tolerable compared to most toddler radio.
I completely relate about your energy boost in the fall–I feel like I’m reborn when the icky sticky heat of summer goes away! It makes me want to go and do and make EVERYTHING.
Also, if you’re looking for another great podcast to add to that list from Buzzfeed, I love one called By the Book! They read a self-help book and live by it for two weeks to see if it changes their lives! It’s always funny and often really insightful or touching.
Just started watching. new medical/doctor show on NBC called ” New Amsterdam”. I love it. The lead actor is a young guy…don’t know his name…that was on The Black List. This role is the total opposite oh hid creepy Blacklist character. Anyway, it is fast moving and has lots of twists and surprises. I bet, if you watch the first couple of episodes, you will be hooked.
I hate olives…just sayin’.
