Tuesday Things.
1. Well. I’ve decided that we have to move because yesterday I ran into the attic to grab some Christmas stuff for a photo shoot and there was a mouse. Looking right at me. Of course, in the 24 hours since this happened I have created a vision in my head of a 20 pound rat. Give me all of your mouse repellent tricks please. ASAP.
2. How adorable is this gingerbread house cake?
3. Guys! There are THREE days left to get a signed copy of The Pretty Dish for the holidays. If you buy your book(s) and send your mailing address and name(s) to theprettydishorders at gmail, I’ll send you signed book plates for the book. It’s the best way to get signed copies for the holidays.
4. Speaking of holidays, I’m dying to decorate right now, before I have Thanksgiving. Plus, it’s going to take me, like, 14 years to decorate with the kids everywhere.
5. This weird epiphany happened yesterday. Ever since having Emilia, I’ve been wacky about keeping things uncluttered. That sounds weird, and I guess what I should say is that since having two kids, lots of clutter drives me insane. And I put two and two together last night and realized that maybe it’s because babies and toddlers are so unpredictable and you can’t control any of that… so I’m trying to control the clutter. WHO CAN RELATE? Side note: I’m majorly failing at controlling the clutter, btw.
6. Hamilton is coming to Pittsburgh. I am not even going to tell you how long I waited in the virtual line last week to get tickets.
7. Oh TV stuff this week! I feel like I watched nothing, but my favorite was a Million Little Things. AGAIN. I know I sound like a broken record but I just love it SO much. Grey’s was interesting and I’m just annoyed it has sucked me back in again. Ha.
8. Totally obsessed with this behind-the-scenes look at such a memorable jingle.
9. I got a new iPhone and it has officially made me feel like I’m 96 years old. I can’t figure it out, the absence of the home button is killing me and I’m very much considering switching to a flip phone. Kidding on that last part. Sort of.
10. Oh how we love Ina.
11. P.S. those are the chocolate crinkle sprinkle cookies from the book above. I always forget how good they truly are.

I waited in the virtual Hamilton line, in SC, for 4 hours just to find out it was completely sold out when I got in. Still upset about it, and the a-holes who immediately put them on resale sites for 5x+
I don’t have kids and I hate clutter. It stresses me out and I immediately need to tend to it… even in other people’s homes.
Hamilton is worth every minute waited and every dollar spent!! So worth the hype.
I love, love love those sprinkle cookies…as have the numerous folks to whom I have gifted them. I can’t wait to dress them up for Christmas giving.
As for the mouse problem…you do know there is never just one mouse in a house. They come in for winter and make themselves right at home…inviting family to stay as well. I would contact an exterminator… ASAP… and make sure you ask said professional about sealing up all the teeny tiny access points they can easily squeeze through. Post visit, I would recommend the electronic rodent devices…then emit a vibration that discourages any rodent from making a home in your home
I’ve had really good luck deterring mice with peppermint satchels. I live in an old building in NYC and sealing off entrance points is nearly impossible…but I haven’t seen one since I hung a couple of these peppermint things in my kitchen. Good luck!
Jealous about Hamilton but it’s coming to philly too so I’m going to try to get tickets!! Re clutter: I’ve become way more anal about it too since having kids and I think it’s bc they have so much stuff!! Looking around my living room rn and I see four huge toys my daughter has and a storage unit window seat all filled with her stuff. Drives me crazy bc I trip over it and unless I am constantly organizing her art desk it looks messy but lbh who has the time for that? We’re still renovating our downstairs (almost done!!) but as soon as it’s finished it’s becoming a play room/family room so I’ll get my order back a little. Also, re clutter, would love to know how you store all your photo props and backgrounds? Can you offer any tips??
Yes, yes, yes, on the clutter. We have fewer toys with 4 children, than when I had 1. Ditching clutter – and also ditching some things that you actually kind of like, but just aren’t working for your current season of life – will give you breeeaathing room. I kind of look at it as being kind to myself in the past, present, and future, being willing to recognize I’m not always the same person/don’t always live the same way/don’t always want the same things.
I just binge watched ALL of the episodes of A Million Little Things! Obsessed! Ugh I just love Gary so much!
1. OMG NO! Be careful – rabies.
10. She’s so awesome. Can’t live without her Food Network show… new episodes every weekend :)
11. YES!
Umm yeah I’m with you on the mouse thing. We once had one in our basement ceiling. Like between the floor. I wanted to burn the house down. We caught in those traps that hide the mouse.
And yes with the clutter! I usually just get to a point and totally snap and must pick it all up immediately.
A few years ago we were watching TV in our living room and a mouse ran across the floor. Got a cat the next day. Haven’t seen a mouse since!
Yep, time to adopt a cat! 🙃😁
You’ll love Hamilton! It was stressful to get tickets but I thought it was worth it. Pro tip: unless you’re a history buff who knows everything about Hamilton, read through a synopsis of the play beforehand. It really helped me follow along & know who people were because A LOT happens in Alexander’s life!
Mice…ugh. If there is one, there are likely more and their stupid mouse friends will be knocking as it gets colder outside. Leave it to the pros. You may have entry points they can close off and, regardless, they will remedy this.
Ina doesn’t like cilantro? How sad. I read that article while eating a bowl of pho with extra cilantro. Still, I think Ina and I could be friends.
So, I saw a mouse a few weeks ago and turned into a crazy person. All the deterrent things (peppermint, dryer sheets, those weird things that make noises they allegedly don’t like) didn’t work. We put out poison and they ate it like treats and just pooped green – seriously, we saw one pull it under the couch and heard it chowing down (I legit left for awhile at that point). I put out a bunch of standard traps where I could (so my dog couldn’t get them) AND THEY ATE ALL THE PEANUT BUTTER AND THEN POOPED ON THE BACK OF MY COUCH BUT DID NOT DIE. The day after that happened, I got several of the traps that electrocute them (Amazon same day delivery!). There was only one unfortunate incident where they ate the peanut butter out of one and got out so I threatened to go get a snake. Turns out, the rechargeable batteries weren’t charged in that one. Once we used charged batteries, we killed two within a few hours and haven’t had issues since. It wasn’t the most pleasant thing to hear them get zapped, but it was the only thing that worked for us. I honestly refused to empty the traps, but I was informed you can dump them out without having to see them.
Yes!! The zap traps are the best (I mean the worst, because you are dealing with mice, which are my #1 irrational fear!!). But they really do work well. And I sort of feel like it’s humane because it’s all pretty quick, especially relative to poison or glue traps…good luck!!
My first idea to get rid of the mouse would be to get a cat 😁
You will LOVE Hamilton!! So excited you got tickets!
It takes a bit to get used to the iPhone X without the home button. However, now I love it! My iPad has the home button, and now it drives me crazy! You will enjoy Hamilton! I saw it in New York over 1-1/2 years ago. I was so lucky to get tickets. They had one group of 4 tickets in the balcony together & I grabbed them!
Re:Mouse
Do.not.panic. It is cold outside and your house is warm. Aside from sealing every teeny crack in your dwelling, it is bound to happen. My friend was just telling me they had an unknown bag of bird seed which was drawing them in. I had nests in my car engine and filter and the mechanic suggested dryer sheets (Bounce).
Clutter: I have a sort of stressful job and it can be unpredictably so. Cleaning or just organizing a closet is something I can control and it sort of gives me some peace. And, lists!
Mouse, p.s: I have 2 cats and they played with a mouse once for three days (poor thing) and then I found it in a trap.
I have 3 cats. No mice.
Glue traps are awful, they just get stuck there and suffer.
Go to the Container Store and see what will help your “children clutter”.
Luckily my girls are 13 and 18 and they are taking care of their own “shtuff”.
