January Favorites: Beauty.
Oh hiiiii.
It feels like it’s been forever since I did a regular beauty favorites post. January has been a million years long, and in December I shared my best beauty discoveries of the year. I can’t wait to hear about the things you guys are loving right now!
First. Huge beauty junkie news! Guess what I finally did? Got eyelash extensions. I’ve only been asking you guys about them for, like, five years and I finally bit the bullet. I know. Very important.
Here’s the thing. I’ve worn false eyelashes (the single clumps) since I was 18 (!!!) so let’s just say… I’ve been ripping out my eyelashes using those since then. I don’t use them every single day but I use them a few times a week – and then I’d use a full strip of lashes if I was really going all out. My lashes have never been long, ever.
The thing I was most worried about was having a reaction to the glue. I’ve seen horror photos online and I have fairly sensitive eyes. But again, I’ve used lash glue and false lashes for so long that after years of debating, I was ready to take the chance. I knew it wasn’t the same kind of glue, but I didn’t have any sort of reaction, so that was great! I know that many people’s lashes are scary when they come off. I also know some people who have their same regular lash length after. I’m not planning on taking them off any time soon, so we shall see and I’ll keep you guys posted!
The only adjustment I’m having is dealing with my contacts and water in my eyes. So if I’m sweating or showering with my contacts in, I can’t necessarily rub my eyes (you know what I mean?) like I used to and then my contacts get all screwed up. If my contacts are out, it’s not an issue.
I very much miss using cleansing oil around my eyes too. The first few days I was still doing makeup on my eyes (not eyeliner, but the Milk eye pigment, lower lash mascara, etc) but it is so tricky to remove. Like I couldn’t remove it completely no matter how hard I tried. I’m used to rubbing the oil on and it removing everything instantly. So removing my makeup has now added like ten minutes to the nighttime skincare routine.
All that aside, I love them. Like LOVE them.
After all that rambling, here are a few things below that I’ve been loving in January!
my Slip Silk Pillowcase. I got this a few years ago and have used it off and on, but now I’m using it every night and it makes such a difference with these crazy eyelashes!
Bite Beauty Crystal Creme Shimmer Lip Crayon. These lip crayons are always some of my favorites. I think one may have been in my first favorites post! I got two of these shimmer ones after Christmas and I love them. I like Bite products and these are matte, but both sparkly and comfortable to wear. So pretty. I got Rose Glace (everyone asks me about this color when I wear it!) and Cherry On Top.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I’ve raved about this before but it’s just so good for nighttime. My lips have been super dry with the colder weather and this saves them! They now have a vanilla version (omg) and I use it along with Burts Bees and the Fresh Sugar Advanced Lip Therapy.
Fenty Gloss Bomb Universal in Fussy. OMG. I LOVE THIS too. I have the original shade but the color is so much more suited to my skin tone. This smells amazing, feels incredible on the lips and is super pretty.
Too Faced Born This Way Sculpting Concealer. Another one I adore. I discovered this last fall and it’s so much better than Shape Tape. Not as thick or as drying. Easier to work with and apply!
Kopari Deodorant. I am weirdly impressed by this deodorant. It smells incredible. It actually works. It is the best natural deodorant I’ve tried. Ever!
KP Duty Scrub. Another repeat over the years but the winter months is when I use this the most. I rarely buy scrubs anymore and just make my own, but this one has chemical exfoliation in it as well, and it really helps that bumpy skin on your arms and legs! It’s actually the only thing I’ve ever found to be effective, along with moisturizing daily. I’ve used this and the cream for almost 10 years and always have them in my bathrooms!
So what are you loving right now in these dreary winter months?! Let me know below!
I’m very intrigued by both the new Drunk Elephant retinol as well as the Sunday Riley one. Some of the not-so-great reviews have me convinced that I don’t need it, and I love my current skincare routine so much right now. The Dr Dennis Gross version is incredible.
[as usual, none of this is sponsored and all of these products were purchased by me. i am not affiliated with any of the companies above, nor do i accept free products. just love to talk about what i like, makeup junkie to makeup junkie. there are some amazon and general reward style affiliate links above. thank you for being here!]

LOVE this post so much!! No joke, I’m heading to Sephora after work to try those BITE pencils! I have been looking for a stain or tinted balm for so long without any luck and these seem like a great option to try! Thank you!!
*LOL – I had 2 of your beauty posts open and originally commented on the wrong one. Oops!
haha no worries!! the bite pencils are awesome! they are matte tho, so if want a balm, i also love the fresh sugar ones!
How do you wash your silk pillowcase? are they ok in the washer and hang dried?
i do throw mine right in the wash and it’s fine! on the box of my slip silk one is said it was machine washable!
I love your roundups and I can’t wait to grab fussy! I have been putting it in and out of my sephora cart!
thanks tricia!!
You mentioned the bumps on your arms and legs… I used to try a bunch of different scrubs and body washes, but the last two years, I’ve used Eucerin intensive repair lotion and it’s worked better and more consistently than anything else. It has lactic acid to exfoliate so it’s basically like rubbing good genes all over 😊 And it feels amazing on dry skin in the winter.
thanks so much for this!! i will grab some!!
That lip mask is the absolute best! I’m a fan of the KP scrub but I’ve had even better results with the Lush Scrubees!
oooh thanks for the tip!
That Laneige lip mask is worth every penny! I’m having a
big love affair (an expensive one!!) with Charlotte Tilbury.
I adore the Hollywood flawless filter, the magic away concealer, the Exx-agerize eye quad, and the new shiny
lipstick version in Pillowtalk (forgot the name of this but it
comes in a skinny tube…so obsessed I bought a backup).
I always love your beauty posts!!
i could not agree more, i love all charlotte tilbury products right now!
I’m a contact lens wearer as well as having recent false eyelashes so I feel your pain about not rubbing your eyes!! For removing your eye makeup, what I’ve found works really well is a Micellar water cleanser (I use Garnier). Just soak part of a kleenex with the micellar water and press/hold on your eyelid for about 10-15 seconds. Most of the eye makeup will get removed onto the kleenex. You can also use a QTip with the micellar water to remove any traces. I use Marc Jacobs eyeliner which is waterproof, smudgeproof, bulletproof (not really, but it’s pretty great) and it comes right off using this method.
thank you so much! i just got some of that today and will give it a try tonight!
It’s not a beauty post but I got a pair of Allbirds shoes for Christmas. The woolrunners. They are awesome! Most comfortable and so warm for winter.
love those so much!!!
I hate to tell you this – but the DE A-Passioni retinol is UH-MAZING. It does have the normal retinol getting use to period that is rough and SUCKS – no one likes dry and irritated skin – and they very specifically even warn you on the packaging to only use it once or twice a week to allow your skin to get use to it…..but after the first use I could DRAMATICALLY see a difference. I am a skin care junkie and have NEVER been so impressed with a product. Ever. Never ever. It’s amazing.
Same- I also really like the DE retinol. I’m a dummy and figured, I don’t have sensitive skin, I don’t NEED that adjustment period…and that turned out to be face peelingly incorrect. So- if you try it, follow the directions, PSA.
ahhh okay this makes me so happy!! i went and ordered it already, haha!! hopefully since i already use some retinol i won’t have too much of a reaction! i love all DE products!
I started with the retionol (love it) and then ended up getting a bunch of other DE products. I think my other favorite is the vitamin c day serum but the hydrating one is also pretty great (and can be used in so many ways – I even mix it with whatever bb cream/cc cream I’m using that day if I want lighter coverage)! I can’t wait to hear what you think of the retinol!
The lip sleep mask is such a favorite of mine. I bought it fir my mom, sister and closest friend. They all love it.
it’s the best!
You seriously need to post a picture of you eyelashes now!
Love the Laneige lip mask! Also been loving the Lanolips lemonade lip treatment (from Ulta). It’s seriously been helping my winter lips
Is your nighttime skincare routine posted anywhere? Love these beauty favorites posts!
ohhh that Kopari deodorant. it does smell great and it left my skin very smooth but it did not work AT ALL for me. I mean it was bad and i gave it 4.5 weeks. i have never used something so ineffective. i know people love it but it just didnt hold up at all for me even on regular days. my clothes stunk, i stunk, etc. i had to take my dress jackets to the drycleaner they smelled so bad. i feel like everyone but me loves this stuff !!!!
For loves this last month….lala retro whipped cream and oddly the mario badescu pink blemish “stuff”. Where you put a q tip in like pepto bismol looking stuff and dab it on blemishes at night. for some reason i had several blemishes in january and i do think this stuff helps. not cute, but it helped. i also got the anastasia soft glam pallet. i know im late….and do like it. Ive been wearing it or a bobbi brown eye crayon pretty much every day depending if i want a smoky (soft glam) or plain (light pink shimmer crayon) look. sadly my lips have just been to dry for many lip products. i need to get the kp scrub out of my linen closet. the bumps are back and i hate them :)

The KP Duty scrub is the best. I agree it has been the only one I feel that “actually” works like it says it will.
I haven’t worn makeup since having kids (2012) and I am grateful for your Beauty Buzz to help get me back in the swing of things with makeup. Thanks Jessica!
I received Bite Glace in my Sephora Play box, and I ADORE it! I remember it getting buzz on YT a few years ago, and I wrote it off, but holy smokes – it’s stunning.
I live for all things ColourPop these days… I’ve almost totally converted to most things CP. Please tell me you’ve finally tried it!!!! Otherwise, I need your P.O. Box so I can send you a care package STAT. Lol. :)
