Summer 2019 Reading List.
It’s here, it’s here! My summer 2019 reading list is here just in time for the unofficial start of summer and I could NOT be more excited.
Give me a good book on a hot summer day and I want nothing else. Except maybe a perfect caprese salad and grilled corn. And a chilled glass of rosé. But you get it!
This is one of my favorite posts to do all year. It’s truly made up of the books I want to read – after a few months of stalking upcoming summer releases and what not, and after compiling a HUGE list in google docs that Lacy and I go over and over and over, these 25 books below are what I’m looking forward to the most.
Also! If you’re new around here, you should know that I’m a crazy unapologetic certified fan of most types of women’s fiction (and yes of course chick-lit!). Light, fun, beachy reads are my fave. I’m not super into anything that resembles a harlequin romance. I read to escape, to get lost in the story, to feel like the characters are my friends. And I actually love the day after I finish a great book and can’t even stand to start a new one because I’m mourning my new (character) friends.
I know some of you get me!
I don’t want to read super sad or scary or depressing books, no matter how great they are. Occasionally there is an exception or two, and when there is I have to read about 45 happy books after it to counteract the one. Some thrillers are okay, just depends on my mood. And if I’m reading at night.
So, these are what I’ve picked down below! This year, I organized the list by release date. Cue all the exclamation points. I get so excited to read a certain book, then hate when I click on it and see it doesn’t come out for another month. This way, you can work your way down the list. I’ll be talking about the books again in Summer Fridays this year, which start in June.
[As a side note, the ONLY book I’ve read on this list so far is Daisy Jones! I love this book so much and my mom just finished it and loved it too. It’s amazing!]
I can’t WAIT to hear your recommendations in the comments, what you’re reading now and what’s on your list!

Yay! Thank you for sharing your trusted book recommendations. I just finished reading “White” by Bret Easton Ellis… I think you’d enjoy it (since, as real-life friends, we’ve discussed these topics before, haha). XO
oooh thanks for the rec!!
SO excited for lazy summer afternoons of reading (when I can get them). Bookmarking a lot of these!
thanks girl! xo
I love you this list so much and have read a few books because of it.I love that you read the same style of books I do. I have always been a chick li)t fan with the occasional dystopian novel thrown in there. I am the same way about books. I know it was good when I think of what happened to them after it ended. I am SO excited for Summer Fridays to come back. I think they are some of my favorite posts to read. YAY for warm weather and good books :-)
yay! so glad you are excited for summer fridays courtney!
Yayyyyy!!! Love when you publish these :) Just added Daisy Jones & the Six to my beach list – I ADORED Evelyn Hugo, so I can’t wait to add another TJR book to my list.
I’ve been making my way through the Cormoran Strike novels (by Robert Galbraith, aka. J.K. Rowling), and I can’t wait to finish them to start working my way through some of these. :)
thank you love!!! xo
Thank you for this list as I just finished everything on my reading list and have resorted to eyeballing cookbooks!
HA!
hahaha so glad it’s timely. :)
Daisy Jones and the Six is incredible! You will love it!
i loved it!
Thanks for all the great book reviews – I will be grabbing a few soon!
thanks bonny!
Just got a Kindle yesterday and downloaded samples for all the books from your winter list! Can’t wait to dive into this one.
how exciting!! lots to read now while snuggling you’re little one. :)
Aaah thank you for sharing!! I needed some new books and did not know where to start. This list is really helpful, and a great way to discover new authors!
than you tanvee!
I’ve read Daisy Jones, the Unhoneymooners, I’ll Never Tell ( very similar to Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager if you read that) and Things You Save in a Fire and they were all great but Things You Save in a Fire was AMAZING. Currently reading Mrs. Everything. It’s a slow burn but I am loving it! We have very similar taste in books and one that I think you would love is Red, White, and Royal Blue. DON’T judge it by its cover. It is a fantastic romance between the first son and the prince of England but also juicy political drama. :)
i’m so excited to read that now!! also thanks for the rec! i will add it. :)
I was just going to say how much i LOVED Daisy Jones.. and ? yay! you read it! Love summer reading lists- all the books for the win
it was so good! xo
I always look forward to these posts!! Can’t wait to dive into one!
thank you lauren. xoxoxo
Cannot thank you enough with you recent recommendation of Where the Crawdads Sing. This book make such a HUGE impact on me!! I am going to recommend Randy Wayne White- a Florida based author that entertains but you also learn a lot about Florida waters and ecosystems. Thanks again for sharing your love of reading and BOOKS!!!
that makes me so happy!! thank YOU!
I love books and I love your reading list! So many great choices. What to read first….
thanks amy!!

Yay, this is a great list! We’re having a BBQ tomorrow, but my plans for the rest of the weekend consist of 1) finishing the book I am reading, and 2) starting another book. :-) I’m so excited. I just got THE UNHONEYMOONERS in from the library, and I can’t wait to read it. I’m also interested in THE BRIDE TEST, since I loved THE KISS QUOTIENT (review and recipe for that one coming soon on my blog). I tried reading THE LAST ROMANTICS, but that was a DNF for me. However, I seem to be in the minority on that one. A lot of people who liked COMMONWEALTH liked THE LAST ROMANTICS, so there’s that. I also want to read Mary Kay Andrews’ new book, SUNSET BEACH — she’s the perfect summer read. Happy reading!!
ooooh i have to add sunset beach to mine!
Thank you for the suggestions! I’ve read Daisy Jones. While I thoroughly enjoyed the book, i found Evelyn Hugo to be much more enthralling. I just started reading Elin H books so will add Summer of 69 to my list. Enjoy your weekend with the family
i agree, nothing matches evelyn huge for me!
I have read Daisy Jones and the 6. So good. I LIVE for Elon Hilderbrand’s books! I can’t wait to binge on her new one! Great list, as usual 😍
thank you alesha!! so excited for elin’s too!
I was looking for a summer reading list and this one popped up on an email newsletter from Bloglovin’ – so excited to just lounge on the beach and check out some of these! Thanks for posting :)
thank YOU valentina! xoxo
Daisy Jones & The Six was so good! Couldn’t put it down, stayed up WAAAAY past my bedtime to read it and finished it in a few days and could not stop thinking about it!
i loved it too!!

I’m definitely going to add some of theee to my ever growing list of books to read.
Some suggestions:
-Kristin Higgins books are beach reads. I especially liked “If You Only Knew”
-Sally Hepworth “The Mother-in-Law”. Marketed as a thriller but not scary or anything. I finished it in one night!
-Frederik Backman “A Man Called Ove”
-Gail Honey “Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine”
-Celeste Ng “Little Fires Everywhere”
Yes yes yes! These days I am all about the light hearted feel good reads and am loving this list. Thanks for sharing Jessica!
Yayyyy I always look forward to your reading lists! Just added a bunch of these on my goodreads. I read so many good ones from your list last year :)
Did you read Sally Hepworth’s newest, The Mother in Law? I really liked it. Agreed about Daisy Jones such a unique read
Pingback: Tuesday Things. - How Sweet Eats
Recently finished reading _The Garden of Evening Mists_ by Tan Twan Eng. Highly recommend.
You might check out Heywood Hills as an option for literature. You tell them what you are interested in in, and they send you a book each month. My SIL got it for me as a gift, and it’s allowed me to read a few books I would normally have never selected, but really enjoyed (including the one I just recommended!).
Pingback: Summer Fridays, Vol 2. - How Sweet Eats
Just finished Our House by Louise Candlish, a little slow to start but it gets really good. The Wife Between Us
Novel by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, I listened to it and thought it was OK. If you watch YOU on Netflix, you should read the sequel to the story Hidden Bodies (You #2) by Caroline Kepnes – the story continues. Just started Mrs. Everything today. Thanks for the recommendations.
