Crockpot Cheeseburgers.
I’m super conflicted today.
I feel like this recipe is so totally weird yet at the same time I can’t WAIT to tell you about it. Never did I ever think that putting ground beef in a crockpot with cheese and then slapping it on something bread-like could be so perfect.
But it was.
It is so easy. I mean, so easy. I clearly don’t even have words to describe it.
I guess I’m sort of boring today. It might be because I had such an eventful weekend, honestly. I guess anything can be eventful for me since the highlight is usually listening to the John Tesh radio show (I’m the oldest person in the universe) but what can you do?
I may be boring but at least I’m full.
What makes these sandwiches are the buttered and toasted buns. I am all about these thick and hearty wheat buns at my local grocery and um, by 8am yesterday morning they were gone. No where to be found. Is there a bun bandit running around? I ended up using the ones above and covering them in butter then toasting them and I just have to say that this is like the best winter meal, ever. The unphotogenicness does nothing to describe just how good this was. Super simple and so freaking delicious. I think I already said that.
I mean it.
Crockpot Cheeseburgers
Ingredients
- 3 pounds 93% lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 sweet onion, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 3 tablespoons ketchup
- 3 tablespoons mustard
- 6 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, cut into cubes + more for topping
- buns, lettuce, tomato and any other burger toppings you may want!
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium high heat and add olive oil. Add onions, cooking for 2-3 minutes until soft, then add garlic. Add in beef, salt and pepper and stir, just cooking until browned, about 4-5 minutes. Add beef to a slow cooker along with milk, ketchup and mustard, stirring well. Add in cubed cheddar, mixing to coat. Cover and cook for 3-4 hours on low, stirring once every 30 minutes or so, especially on the edges.
- Serve on buttered + toasted buns with additional cheese and toppings.

I meant to say delicious and SIMPLE!… which I love, love, love for a week-night meal! I can’t wait to make these. Yum!
These sound so good! Question though–do you think it would work okay to substitute shredded cheese for the cubed, or do you think the cubed cheese is necessary for texture/binding/etc?

These look like MaidRite sandwiches! Yummy!
Do you know if the leftovers would freeze well? Thanks!
Awesome! I made these with the pretzel rolls you posted on Tasty Kitchen (only I made them mini so we could have sliders), and it was an all around fantastic meal :)
Want! Making this weekend. Thanks!
I saw your link on White on Rice crockpot potato comment and just had to come on over and see this recipe. Looks fabulous, I’ll be giving this one a try.
This is cooking right now and it smells wonderful!!! Thank you for another great recipe! I used buffalo because we can get it and it is hormone free.
These were great! My parents just moved to a new house so I brought this over for dinner for them. Everyone, including my very picky sister, loved them! She suggested serving them in a pita since they are a little messy, just to keep it all contained. The mess is worth it though :) This made more than 6-8 servings for my family, maybe 10+? I’ve put our leftovers in the freezer for an easy dinner in the future. Thanks!
Also, and I’m not sure if its been mention yet, but Crockpot Bacon Cheeseburgers? It was the first thing my boyfriend said when we started eating and I know it wouldn’t hurt ;)
Made this for dinner tonight. Oh My God. They were amazing!!! This is going into regular rotation. Thank you so much!

I’m so thrilled we *have some food guidance!
In some parts of the country they call these…”Loose Meat” or “Made Rights” when we traveled through Iowa. Where I am from more like our “Sloppy Joes” in Ohio by just adding tomato anything…ketsup, sauce..and I add dashes of worchestershire or A-1 or left over BBQ and a touch of brown sugar and vinegar. Different every time and kids love them. Crock pat is great but drain off all liquid after browning meat and onion together. I’ve even added green pepper or relish. Also makes good “Coney Island” sauce for hot dogs….some day Chili dogs? But I don’t make mine like chili. Sorry I am long but this was my kids altime favorite. You can cook up some macaroni and add more tomatoes to this and more sauce and call it “Johnny Marzetti” also my kids favorite!! Don’t forget to throw the cheese on top. Husbands LOVE this! And leftovers are GREAT!

So having enough chicken recipes in the kitchen would be rewarding.
KFC has been part of the American landscape for many many years and it really is difficult to imagine the gap in
modern life that would have been created had it not been for all the special herbs and
spices that have graced succulent pieces of chicken over several decades.
Place 1-2 pieces of chicken at a time in the Ziploc bag containing the crunchy coating mix and shake
until the chicken is well coated.
Subbed out the sautéed onions for a package of onion soup mix and added bacon bits. Second time making it now and it’s been a hit every time!

These look like the Iowan food staple.. Maid-Rite loose meat sandwiches! Yum!
These were INCREDIBLE! My husband was so skeptical so these being delicious was even better! I’m never displeased when I make something from your blog, keep the recipes coming!!!
I’ve always wondered why use a hamburger bun for sloppy Joe’s or any loose meat sandwich, I buck the system and refuse, i will use hot dog buns, so as to not lose any of the tasty goodness. LOL
