Guilt + Full Body Workout.
I was so tired after the shopping extravaganza last night that I forgot to include any non-margarita pictures.
Mother Lovett always yelled at me when I did everything cracked eggs over the bowl of dough. She told me to crack them into a smaller bowl. I learned the hard way one day when I was making chocolate chip cookies with the last of my flour and sugar. I dropped the entire egg into the mix – shell and all, ruining the entire batch.
I obviously didn’t learn my lesson. Apparently, I should also crack eggs in a separate bowl when making ‘egg in a hole.’
My attempt at cracking it on the side of the skillet failed. It fell right into the pan, missing the hold completely.
My brother brought home his girlfriend this weekend, who is the coolest chick ever. Oh, she is also stunningly gorgeous.
What makes her even cooler?
She borrowed these 2 ripe avocados for me on Friday night from the restaurant we were at.
Before you yell at me, let me explain. The service was not the best and we waiting 20 minutes for our drinks and water. We almost missed the concert we were going to.
Also, if you live in western Pennsylvania, you know that a perfect, ripe avocado is hard to come buy. And if you magically find one? It is usually 152 million dollars. After shelling out the dough, you get home to discover the inside has totally rotted away.
These were great avocados, so I made some guacamole, and ate it all myself. I might be a bit of a hog.
It’s alright. I probably won’t get to have another guacamole-hog moment until June.
In great thanks to her, I made them some vanilla bean cupcakes to take back to school. I also gave them a few cookie dough truffles to try.
I have to say that this cupcake recipe is my favorite because it was one of the first baking recipes I came up with myself that actually worked out and tasted great. And if you recall, I did mess up a few times while trying to get it right.
Since it’s Monday, did you plan on ‘starting’ something today? I do not like the ‘I’ll start Monday’ excuse, but sometimes get stuck doing it myself, too. I missed my fruits and veggies yesterday, so I am making sure to get them in today.
Have you written down you goals yet? You will feel so much more positive on January 1st if you do. :) Even though we are almost halfway through December, and the easier thing to do would be put it off for 20 more days, stick to it!
If it was easy, everyone would do it. And remember – everyone will be doing in January 1st. Won’t you feel great knowing you made a lifestyle change and not a resolution that will be forgotten in 30 days?
25 Days of Workouts
Workout 6 – Full Body Bum-Kicker
I can’t stress enough how much I love full body workouts. They are my favorite. Many of us don’t have time for a great full body, but if you do, I really recommend trying to get one in. I have seen the biggest gain in strength and muscle mass when preforming a consistent full body routine. Remember – it is the BIG muscles that count here.
Combo 1 – 3 sets of 12 reps
Leg Press
Pushups
Side Lunges w/ tap to floor
Lat Pulldown
Combo 2 – 3 sets of 12 reps
Step ups
Seated Row
Alternating Lunges
Incline Dumbbell Pec Fly
Combo 3 – 3 sets of 12 reps
Dumbbell Squat
Overhead Dumbbell Shoulder Press
Deadlifts
Side Lateral Raise
When I do a workout like this, I tend to move back and forth to each exercise. I do a set of leg presses, and while my legs are resting, jump out and do some pushups, and so on. I can usually complete a workout like this withing 35-40 minutes, because I never stop moving. I may add some plank holds and triceps dips at the tail end if I’m still full of energy. Usually, I am pretty wiped out!
If you don’t belong to a gym, or can’t make it, you can always swap out squats for leg presses, etc. If you have any other questions on what exercise to swap at home, let me know. :)
Guilt
Do you ever feel guilty eating certain foods or eating more than you normally ‘allow’ yourself to? I have to admit, I have never felt guilty. As you know, I have always exercised and eaten mostly well, yet peppered with treats. The feeling of guilt for food is hard for me to wrap my mind around.
I am a people pleaser, and feel guilt for many other things that I probably shouldn’t. But I have never felt guilty for eating. I am so glad, and feel so blessed that I haven’t. My heart goes out to those of you who do.
I hope through reading my blog that some of you learn to not feel guilty. Especially with this holiday season – it’s a time of love and magic. There is not better time to start loving yourself (and others, of course:)).

i think im going to use that workout today girl!! THANK YOU :)
I am very excited to start your 25 days of workouts in the new year, post the Fitnessista workouts. Thank GOD for your personal trainers who blog. Seriously, you are saving my wallet so much money ;)
Amen to loving yourself! I’ve felt guilt around food, especially when I was really obsessed with counting calories and trying to lose weight. After I discovered a more wholistic and less “diet” mindset, I’m concerned more about treating myself and my body well, and less about the guilt! Love your mindset. It’s good to get that reminder more often than not :)
Your guilt free attitude is so awesome. I definitely aspire to feel guilty as little as possible
i’m really jealous you don’t deal with guilt- i definitely cannot say the same :( but you are such a great role model!
Avocados out in western PA are so ridiculously expensive! I bought store made guac the other night and it was awful! I say you should enjoy EVERY SINGLE BITE of that guac!
i love your views on food. you have such an amazingly healthy relationship with it :)
You guys are all SO SWEET. Thank you so much – it really means alot. :)
great idea for a workout! when i do a workout like this, I never stop moving either! thats the key, it keeps my HR right up :) thats so great you like your new boyfriensd new GF, thats always great when the fam gets along!
you are so right about loving yourself :) keep up the great work jess!!
I have struggled with guilt and eating but the more I live right the less it affects me.
I love you blog:)
I forgot that you live in PA! Me too girl and amen to the overpriced/crummy avacados. I was in the store this weekend and I swear every single avacado was either so mushy it disengrated in my hand or as hard as a rock. If you find the perfect fruit, GRAB IT because they don’t come around too often.
Again, great workout. Thanks for all of these ideas.
And I think you are totally amazing for having this mindset on guilt with eating. We feel way to guilty and are so hard on ourselves for so many other things in life; why make another reason to feel bad over something that is supposed to be enjoyed?
Have a great week girl!
“you know that a perfect, ripe avocado is hard to come buy”
For real? I take for granted living in So Cal the past 6 yrs and now AZ that pretty much avo’s are like a buck a piece at their most expensive and as cheap as 5 for 2 bucks in season. Ok wow, that sucks for you!
Next your oreo balls. Holy mother of jesus do those look good. I love how you said there’s no egg so u can eat the whole bowl of dough! Ha! Just a little butter, sweetened cond milk, and flour…but i mean honestly, if with those ingredeints you can’t make something good, then it just ain’t gonna get good!
Guilt. Not with food. With other decisions and choices. Remorse and regret would be better…like what the F was I thinking?!!! Currently having one of those moments/months. Not with food. If only it were that easy :)
Great info Jess. I don’t feel guilty! So I am going to have a hot fudge sunday. What do you think?????????????
Those cupcakes look very good. And I love the pic of your egg. i wish I had some eggs tonight, but I didn’t and had veggie chili instead.
I’ve gotten a lot better with guilt, but it’s something that’s taken me a long time to get over. I used to associate food with being unhappy when I was a fat kid, so I have that underlying feeling and it’s in the back of my mind. I do know that I spend the majority of my time eating delicious healthy foods, so I feel less guilty most of the time!
Loved this post- you have a great attitude and it would be great for younger girls to read!
I don’t feel guilty about eating foods, but I DO feel guilty about eating late at night :( Nick eats late at night because he gets home at 10pm and always wants to lounge and eat snacks, therefore I feel like I have to join! I hate going to bed with a full stomach, but I need to break the habit. It’s not tha tI think it causes weight gain (because it doesnt) I just know it isn’t good for me!
Oh, and I know what you mean about finding the perfect avocado. I thought Ifound one the other day and BOY WAS I WRONG! IT was so hard I couldn’t even peel it, strange.
I definitely feel the guilt when it comes to overeating (or drinking!) I’m jealous, but also really happy for you that you don’t feel that at all. I think those who exercise are usually a lot more comfortable in their own skin and feel less of the guilt.
Haha, I love that she borrowed those avocadoes. I’ve been known to do that with toilet paper at restaurants with bad service. How cheap is that? haha.

I LOVE that attitude, Jessica!
You are a great role model :) I used to feel guilty quite often, if I broke my selftaught “rules” around food, exercising and so on. Which I think a LOT of women can relate to. As I grow older, I feel that nasty, negative and depressing guilt flowing further away for each day. Praise heaven for aging like this! I’d wish my two sisters could learn something from me. They both have very low selfconfidence and struggle with their sick control of food and portions. I miss them being happy and healthy!
Love, Maria
