Tuesday Things.
1. Blue orchids for life. Let’s hope I can keep this one alive? Give me your tips! Yes… for like the fourth time.
2. I’ve spent the last few days so cuddled up with a newborn that I have barely moved. We’ve been binging on Christmas movies, music and lights on the tree. I can’t wait to write more about it because I don’t want to forget these moments. Favorite holiday movie? I have multiples but Christmas Vacation is probably the first with Love Actually coming in at a close second. Oh! And the Family Stone. GAH.
3. With that being said, I think this s’mores hot cocoa needs to appear in my kitchen rightthissecond. Eddie has been feeding me nearly every meal and I think he can do this, no?
4. YOU GUYS. Many of you think I’m making and posting recipes right now with a baby. Um no. That was my nesting phase. I have quite possibly some of my most favorite holiday things ever coming this week and next –Â and tomorrow is going to be ALL about cheese.
5. My friend Rachel lived according to the Pinterest popular page. Man I love her.
6. Uh, we need to talk the SOA episode! I wasn’t totally shocked and thought some was slightly predictable, but I still liked it.  I was in tears multiple times. Also, that and Nashville were the last things I watched before going into labor, whatever that tells you. I hope Nashville will stop the typical Grey’s Anatomy (Meredith/Derek) run around soon. Hello new storylines please! The Affair freaked me out and I’m not sure it was the best thing to watch having a 3-day old baby, but Eddie and I were all OMG at the ending. And Homeland was pretty crazy too, just ups my love for Quinn. What a hot nutcase.
7. Every year… one of the most hilarious parts of the season is the haters guide to the williams sonoma catalog. YES. [Sidenote: I did eat about ten handfuls of the peppermint bark the night I was in labor (but didn’t KNOW!)… my dad brought it home. I’d kill for some right now.]
8. My appetite is so insane that in the ten minutes it took for my breakfast to be made this morning, I ate a piece of cake. Like HAD TO HAVE THE CAKE. First and second breakfast for the win.

Orchids are beautiful! My mom has a huge collection of them. Her proven swear by result giving tip is: put two ice cubes in the pot once a week. Once they have melted, usually the next day, just mist the leaves with a spray bottle. That’s kept hers coming back for YEARS!
OMG thank you for this! BUT — do you trim the stem after the flowers are gone? Do you put it in sunlight? Ahhh!
Also – do the blues stay blue?
BABY BABY BABY! So happy for you!! (PS OMG SOA and Homeland. Yes. Just YES.)
Yes, lots of sunlight! And trim the stem all the way after all blooms are gone – leaving maybe a half inch of stub.
The blues will stay blue.
I also have a Miracle Grow orchid spray, which I use every week. It might be cheating, but they keep coming back, so I’ll take it.
Remove the dead flowers and trim the stems to the bottom of that node (the triangular shape on the stem-there will be several) so there is no growth on them. Don’t cut the whole stem, because it could branch off from another node, even if one bloom has died. They sit in a small window in our kitchen that gets sunlight about an hour or two a day and then is shaded the rest. The blues have stayed blue for us :)
I can’t wait to read about the baby :) Glad you’re doing well!
Did you forget Elf?! Haven’t seen it yet this year but it’s on my list. Love the baby pics and can’t wait to hear more about Max. Love the name. Congrats!!!.
And suddenly I want to watch ALL THE CHRISTMAS MOVIES! And snuggle with a baby (well, friends’ babies, since I’m no where near that time of my life yet…)
I will now have “I feel it in my fingahs, I feel it in mah toeesss” stuck in my head after reading Love Actually hahaha
Hey! Longtime reader here, wanted to finally say hello and congratulate you on your new bundle of joy! He’s absolutely adorable! I am also soo hooked on The Affair, and last Sunday’s ending just makes me so anxious to see the finale! Their daughter Whitney bugs me like crazy, but seeing Pacey/Cole for a few minutes here and there makes up for it :) Speaking of holiday movies, what about the holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet? I loveee that movie. And isn’t a young shaven Andrew Lincoln in Love Actually to die for?
I just cried laughing at my desk at work over that William’s Sonoma article. It was so bad that three coworkers came over to make sure I was okay.
Ahh, I’m so happy for you! And YES — my sister and I watch The Family Stone every year! So wonderful.
That Williams Sonoma article had my laughing out loud at my desk. And cuddling with your newborn and watching all the best Christmas movies while your husband feeds you sounds like the best way to spend your day. Enjoy this time!!!
yes!!!! hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The W-S article was pretty funny. I loved the coffee one especially and the juicer!
Also, the blog-reading world is in need of more baby pictures/updates. I don’t think I’m alone in this…
That Pinterest page article is just hilarious! Congratulations again about Max – he is just gorgeous!
I was an emotional mess watching SOA! I kind of, sort of expected it to end that way, but I was still a little shocked by it too. Weird, huh?
I am dying over that hot chocolate. Cheers to snuggling!
I actually laughed out loud at the Williams Sonoma post (needless to say – I was in public). It is spot on for how I feel reading those catalogs!
So happy for you and that munchkin head you now have. Babies are my favorite! I think I am not alone when I say we REALLY REALLU want to hear your birth story. Like every detail! Down to the final push!
Much love! Xoxo
The W & S article was the best thing ever!
You have all the excuses in the world to eat cake for breakfast and binge on WS peppermint bark. Your baby is absolutely precious! I’m so happy for you.
That Orchid is gorgeous!! Congratulations on the little one Jess — enjoy these snuggly moments — this is such a special time <3
p.s that haters guide to the williams sonoma catalog. … OMG I think I pee'd my pants!!
It’s totally OK to eat cake before breakfast. Totally. I won’t hear a word against this idea!
Amen!
I just love you. Completely amazed by all you accomplished before your boy arrived. Enjoy the couch snuggles, mama!
Ahhh I just LOVE The Family Stone! We watch it every year at my parents’ house when we go home for the holidays. Other things: the first few days (weeks, really) with a newborn may be the most exhausting days ever, but having a now almost one-year-old girl, I look back on them as some of my favorite days. Enjoy having that little bean snuggle with you now before he’s running all over the place wrecking havoc (though these days are also so, so sweet…the kisses? OMGAH). Also, the living by Pinterest thing completely cracked me up. Anyway, now I’m rambling. Congrats on your beautiful baby boy, and enjoy every minute!
We are on the same page with Holiday movies!!! Love Love Love “Love Actually” :)
I so love the W-S catalogs and the recipes in them but I have to say I was dying reading the article. So. Darned. Funny. I couldn’t breathe! Thanks for the great laugh and enjoy every second of that baby small,Jess!
My appetite was never bigger than the first 3 months AFTER I had the baby. I mean, it was nuts! So when you were writing during your pregnancy that you didn’t have an overly huge appetite or anything, I was like, wonder if that will change for her :) Hope you guys are enjoying all your bonding and snuggles!!!
Welp, I just made a complete and utter fool of myself at work courtesy of that Williams-Sonoma article. Also pretty sure I cried off all of my mascara. So, so funny!
OMG number 7… I am seriously in tears with laughter right now. If you figure out how to care and keep an orchid alive, let me know. Not only are my thumbs black, my whole hand is.
This is totally not on topic with anything from this post, but I saw on your husband’s IG (I don’t have an account, otherwise I would have left this there) but he said that Max doesn’t like cold wipes. Do you guys have a wipe warmer? Our daughter hated the cold wipes and the wipe warmer was a lifesaver!
The Santa Clause is for sure my favorite Christmas movie, but I think Christmas Vacation is second!! (I actually didn’t see it until I was like 23… thankfully my boyfriend remedied that tragic situation!)
OMG snuggling with a newborn while watching Christmas movies sounds so lovely and perfect. <3
PS Thanks for the shout-out!
I wanted to take a moment to say that I truly enjoy getting your posts in my inbox. Lots of good reads and references to other sites. The Williams-Sonoma and Pinterest post were SO FUNNY!!
You make me laugh out loud!
Merry Christmas!
Loved your friend’s Buzzfeed article! I love Pinterest but I will be sharing the article with my friends for a good chuckle and as a reminder to be nicer to ourselves!

Baby is so cute I can’t handle it!!! Also- in response to christmas movies I just yelled “YES” at my computer screen when I read your faves…. I totally agree!!! <3
I am losing my MIND on The Affair and no one I know watches it!!! Maura Tierney is just flawless. I am obsessed. My annual Christmas movies: The Holiday, Love Actually, The Family Stone, ELF + Meet Me in St. Louis. The best!!! XOXOXO
LOVE the Family Stone! Hubby and I watch it with his parents every year on Christmas Day (except we fast forward through the super awkward dinner scene). Muppets Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve after everyone gets home from church.
I LOVED that Pinterest article!!! So funny!
Congrats on your baby! What an amazing Christmas you will have with a newborn!
I thought I was the only one who LOVED Family Stone and insisted on watching it every year at Christmas! I feel the same (although not at Christmas time) about Dan in Real Life. Do you like that one? I have only one sibling and I guess the big family appeals to me.
Merry Christmas!
The article was spot on! It was hilarious and so true, especially about the lighting of food and I have tried like a hundred pinterest hairstyles and they always fail, ha, I did the author’s #9 hairdo like a billion times!
Also Family Stone, soo good!
This is a little late, but my favorite Christmas movies are Four Christmases, White Christmas, It’s A Wonderful Life, Christmas Vacation and Love Actually. All we did in Nov & Dec was binge on Christmas movies. My guilty pleasure was the Hallmark Channel. They played 24/7 cheese-y Christmas movies. Yes, I am an old lady!
