Tuesday Things.
1. Seriously wondering whyyyy do shorter weeks always feel like they last the longest?
2. I can’t even get over this giant lilac strawberry shortcake. It’s so pretty.
3. My obsession with strawberries is OVER the top. I ate so many on Saturday that my mouth actually hurt. Ooomph.
4. I realize that I’m irrationally emotional at this stage in my life, but these elephants running to greet a rescued baby elephant? I just cannot. This might be the most embarrassing thing I’ve cried at in the last four months.
5. TV! House of Cards starting today means I’ll probably get no sleep, but much MORE importantly, Bloodline! We have only watched three episodes so far, and I felt like the first was somewhat slow (but necessary), but episodes two and three got me. These characters are just SO good and I’m hoping Danny makes another ghostly appearance. Also, let’s be real: can Kyle Chandler BE any hotter?!
6. It’s okay if I’m up all night though, because every year at this time we live in a house where hockey rules our lives and the games are on SO late. Eddie survives on less sleep than me and isn’t even mad about it.
7. Finding a minute of mindfulness anywhere. Gosh, I wish I could do this but it seems completely impossible to me.
8. We’re heading on our usual family vacation later this month, but in the meantime I’m trying to find a fun little getaway (read: a babymoon + Max) for later this summer. Like three or four days. Give me your recs!
9. Guess what’s coming later this week?! Perhaps my most requested post of the month: my summer reading list! Eeep. So excited to share.

Check out Pantai Inn in La Jolla for your getaway. We did a babymoon + toddler trip last Spring and loved it. Two room suites + kitchenettes, walking distance from Children’s Beach where the sea lions rest, you can literally hear waves while you sleep and a short 30 min drive from the San Diego zoo which I loved a much as my toddler. Lots of good food walking distance from the hotel too. Where ever you end up- enjoy. Congrats on baby two!
i looove la jolla! this is a great idea but might be too far for a quick trick. i wish i lived closer!! thanks anne!
Come to Chester, NS, Canada! I’ll show you around. Very Nantucket-esque!
great idea ceilidh!!!
Sorry but I just really needed to say LETS GO PENS!!!!!!!!!
Also, jealous youre heading to boyne AND I can’t wait for your reading list.
I’m totally on the other side…my brother is a HUGE Predators fan!
!!!!!
Can’t wait to see your reading list, you always have such good recommendations. I am reading 13 reasons why right now at the request of my stepdaughter who has already read the book and watched the show. So far such an easy read too.
thanks courtney! it’s coming tomorrow (thursday) afternoon!
Seaside, Florida!!! Beautiful white sand beaches and a great place for families.Â
i am dying to go to seaside!
Portland, Maine! Great food everywhere (must haves:a lobster roll and the donuts at the Holy Donut), the ocean, shopping. Stay at the Press Hotel.
this is a huge contender!
I second Portland, Maine. The food scene is insane plus there are great parks, the beach is nearby and it is incredibly family friendly. I haven’t stayed at a bad hotel there but the Old Port is where you want to be. Check out the brown butter lobster roll at Eventide Oyster.
thanks shannon!! this might be it!
I second Seaside! The most picture-perfect, quaint little beach town – It’s where The Truman Show was filmed so you know it’s idyllic :) Not to mention you can’t beat the gulf’s waters.
thanks emily!!
Cape  May NJ!!  Horse-Drawn carriages, beautiful, quaint town (voted as one of the top 10 beach towns) It’s a wonderful Victorian town, and perfect for a family.  If you want the “craziness of a boardwalk, rides, etc then hop on the NJ Parkway for about 7  minutes and you’ll be in Wildwood, NJ.
I’m headed there in two weeks so that is good to know!
this is where my fam vacationed for 30+ years! we haven’t gone in 2-3 years, but i agree it’s one of my favorite places. i think i even have a bunch of vacation posts back on my crumbs section from there!
My brother is a huge Predators fan…so I’m on the opposite side. Sorry Eddie! And I can’t want to hear your summer reads! Super random, but do you still have your pup? A post with her picture was on the bottom of my screen (similar posts maybe?) and I hadn’t seen any pictures with her in them recently.
ahhhh! it has to be exciting in nashville right now, haha. and yes! bella. :) she is my mom’s! (like our family’s dog) – max is absolutely obsessed with her.
I think I’ve mentioned Maine to you before but highly recommend it for your getaway! We always go to Kennebunkport but I think you would love Portland. Or stay in Kbunk if you want something more relaxed and do a day trip to Portland- it’s only about a half hour away. But if you go I will seriously give you all the hotel and restaurant recommendations!
YESSS you totally have and i am dying to go!
My husband and I just took a little pre-baby trip to Chicago and it was SO MUCH FUN!! We stayed in the South Loop near most of the museums, which gave us lots of places to walk around and eat (my two vacation requirements!). The whole town is so walkable (30 min from our hotel to Navy Pier) and public transportation is super easy as well.  We did an architecture cruise and the river walk would be so perfect in late summer or fall.  Obviously, tons of  good food everywhere!Â
love this!! thanks emily, i will look into it.
I’ve got nothing for babymoon ideas.. sorry. Wrong side of the country for little getaway ideas.
That being said, our household is also rooting for the same team(s)- strangely we are a Steelers/Pirates/Pens hardcore fandom way out here in PDX.
Also? LOVE love love Kyle Chandler and Bloodline. ( but let’s be honest, I probably had a huge bias coming in as carryover from Friday Night Lights)
The Greenbrier is beyond gorgeous and easily drivable from PGH. Let’s Go Pens!!
I agree! Shorter weeks just mean that there’s more to cram into them in less time!Â
We went to Charleston a few years ago for a friend’s wedding, and it’s so beautiful. Quaint and charming and beautiful! So many nice local things to see and do!Â
You’ve been to Bedford Springs, right? It’s my FAVE. Max would like the pool and the town of Bedford is super cute. Very low-key though. Also – are you doing a kitchen reveal? If so did I miss it? I want to see!
Have a great weekend!
We just did a 4 day babymoon in Bermuda and it was wonderful! The flight is so short, and the beaches were amazingly gorgeous. We did not bring our 20-month old, but there were plenty of young children enjoying themselves. Also highly recommend Niagara-on-the-Lake and Prince Edward County in Ontario, Canada!
