Better-Than-Crack Brownies.
I’m sorry for doing this to you. These brownies though.
I really am. But better than crack brownies? Had to happen.
See, last Friday while I was on a 10-hour road trip heading for vacation, I received this recipe from a reader named Liz.
Liz, I love you. That’s all I have to say.
I was tortured by this recipe for a full eight days before I could make it. I wanted to make it while I was on vacation, but couldn’t drag myself up off the couch to do so.
So it was the first thing I made when I returned home.
These are an absolute sin.
I really don’t have any words, other than you must try them. They will change your life.
They may also change your waistline too.
But that’s okay.
It’s all in the name of chocolate.
Which is totally worth it, if you ask me. And… everyone else. Probably. I hope so.
Better Than Crack Brownies
Ingredients
- 1 batch boxed brownie mix
- 1/2 cup salted peanuts, if don't have salted, add sea salt
- 1 cup chopped Reese's peanut butter cups
- 1 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
- 1 1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 tablespoon butter
- 1 1/2 cups Rice Krispies Cereal
Instructions
- Mix the brownies according to their instructions - and bake them for 20 to 25 minutes in a 9 x 13 baking dish.
- Remove and top with peanuts and peanut butter cups, and bake for 4 to 6 minutes more.
- While they are finishing baking, melt chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. I do this in 30 second intervals in the microwave. Stir in the cereal. Remove the brownies from oven and evenly pour chocolate mixture over top.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. Slice into squares!

I appreciate you so much!
Mr. How Sweet says these are healthy since they have peanuts for protein and good fat, and since the back of the Rice Krispie box says the cereal is a “healthy snack.”
I love the way this man thinks.

The drug reference in the name is pathetic.

I do love crack. A lot. So when you said these were better then crack I was skeptical. But I made them and ate the whole pan. But you know what extra ingredient I added to make them extra yummy? Crack. Turns out they are really good that way, and you’re right, better than regular old crack. Crack brownies. Thanks for the recipe!
These came out PERFECTLY!!!!! So rich, a lil dab will do ya which bears better for my waistline. My bf mandated to keep this recipe in my arsenal. Most excellent!

Yummy…I will definitely give it a try this Sunday!
Hello! Thank you for sharing this recipe. Two quick questions regarding the Rice Krispies-
1) Did you use the original Rice Krispies cereal (which has added sugar) or unsweetened puffed rice cereal?
2) Would it be possible to make this with corn flakes in place of the rice krispies (and if so, would sweetened or unsweetened be better)?
I have often made these with almost whatever puffy/crispy cereal I have on hand– I almost always forget at least one ingredient, which leaves me tearing through the pantry and it has worked out every time. I’ve used unsweetened cereal and with the PB cups/choc chips, you won’t even notice the difference. One time I even used pretzels instead of cereal. I put myself in a sugar coma that day.
My son is allergic to peanuts, any suggestions to replace the peanut butter? I have to say I’d call these better than sex after drooling all over Kindle while looking at the pic and reading the ingredients!!

I will be making it for this weekend.
How long do these stay good for once they are cooked? Could I make them one or two nights before? Also can you freeze these?

Hi Jessica,
Are we making a brownie recipe that fits in a 9×9 pan, but baking it in 9×13 so that they’re extra thin before adding the toppings? Also, on the brownie recipe that’s a link from this recipe, it calls for 2-3 squares of chocolate which seems like very little. Any idea around how many ounces that would be?
Thank you!
I always have to use 2 boxed brownie mixes for that exact reason – if you stretch the one boxed brownie mix to a 9×13 pan they are wayyyyy too thin (at least in my opinion!) to hold up against the toppings.
I have made these AT LEAST 10 times! HUGE hit every time I bring them!!! Perfect every time!

I’ve made this I don’t know how many times. I make these when I want a definite, knock it out of the ballpark hit. I have been known to bring these to work to bribe coworkers into getting their assignments to me on time and/or reward them for finally doing what I’ve been asking them to do. I get my work and they get chocolate peanut butter amazingness – it’s a win win!
