Brown Sugar Blueberry Cookies.
Certain things happen when you bake cookies that taste like muffins. Blueberry cookies, to be exact.
Cookies become breakfast food.
Midnight snacks too.
You pass them off as two servings of fruit. Or three.
You sleep-eat cookies.
You closet-eat cookies.
They somehow disappear.
Face, meet cookies. Cookies… I apologize.
Few things in this house bring excitement like a soft, fluffy cookie filled with bursting, plump blueberries. Me? Shoes and sea-salted chocolate. Him? Steak and Taylor Swift. In the non-creepy, he’s-old-enough-to-be-her-dad kind of way.
Yeah. I know. It’s semi-weird. Right? I remind him of it often.
Who wants a cookie?
Brown Sugar Blueberry Cookies
- 1 stick butter, at room temperature
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 3/4 cup fresh blueberries
optional maple glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon half and half
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
- Preheat oven to 375.
- Beat butter and sugar with an electric mixer until smooth. Add egg and vanilla, mixing well until combine, about 2 minutes. Stir in flour, baking powder, salt, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon with the mixer on low speed. Mix until dough comes together. Add in milk. If dough is still crumbly, add milk 1 tablespoon at a time until it comes together. Fold in blueberries gently with a spatula – it is okay if they break a bit. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Remove dough from fridge and roll into 1 1/2 inch balls or scoop out with an ice cream scooper. Bake at 375 for 10-12 minutes. Let cool completely.
optional maple glaze
- Whisk together the ingredients until smooth. If the mixture is too thin, whisk in more sugar 1/4 cup at a time. If it’s too thick, whisk in more syrup or half and half, 1 teaspoon at a time. Drizzle on cookies!

Cookies > muffins. Or maybe… cookies = muffins. Cookies/muffins?? I really don’t know. I told you I’m terrible at math.

Ooooh these look beautiful! I’ve never thought to put blueberries in cookies before, but now I can’t wait to try it. Lovely photos!
just when I thought you couldn’t get more creative you whip out these. I love blueberries!!
I’ve always wanted to make blueberry cookies, but never could find a recipe! Thank you!!
In my book, cookies > muffins, especially when cookies taste like muffins. Seriously can’t wait to make these!!
muffins > cookies only because you can sort of pretend that they are healthy. Sort of.
Your blog is rockin my world lately. Loving it all. Thanks!
Thank you Krissy!
What a cool combo!
Oh yum. Starbucks should make a frappuccino of this cookie (sans coffee!). My boyfriend would looooove these.
That would be amazing.
Love love love!! So beautiful and they make my mouth water!!
So since blueberries are considered a superfood, then that means cookies = superfood, right?
Hmmm… do I risk waking my kids up by running the mixer to make these right now? They definitely look worth it and they would make a perfect morning snack. I think I’ll be nice and let the kids sleep and let them help since it looks like it could be a rainy morning here. I’ve been looking for some different blueberry recipes. This one will help use up the last of our blueberries before we pick up a couple more big containers at Sam’s tomorrow. Thanks for the recipe.
Cookies > muffins. Trust me, I have an engineering degree. ;)
You make me so happy when you cook food like this.
Love berries in baked goods, they kind of explode and its awesome! Cookies for breakfast? Why not! Muffins are ok for breakfast and we all know theyre just cupcakes in disguise
These look fantastic!! I will be making them as soon as I get home this evening!!
These are cookuffins. Or Muffookies. Whatever you call them, I am 100% positive they are delicious!
hahaha love that!
um, you’re kind of a major genius. holy. YUM.
Oh my God yes! I loooove these!!
They look awesome…I just used tons of brown sugar today in a recipe I created. I love it. And bloobs. And cookies. It’s ALL good!
Major yum! Are they soft or do they have a crips/crunch to them? I am assuming more soft because of the brown sugar and milk added to the batter.
I’m not sure how you came up with this idea, but it’s brilliant! I plan to pick local blueberries within the next week and will definitely be making these cookies. :)
They are soft!
Gah! More yummy blueberry recipes that I can’t make! :( I’ll just bookmark them for next time I’m in the US!
Always seems like I have leftover blueberries on the brink of going bad, and never seems like there enough good blueberry recipes. Thanks Jessica, can’t wait to try these!
Yea! What a great idea! And my mom brought me some blueberries last night. It’s fate. Well, unless our kitchen plumbing doesn’t get fixed today…that’s a fate that I don’t like to envision, though.
Perfect timing! I have a bunch of blueberries that I didn’t know what to do with!
Those look incredible and I have blueberries in my fridge that are just waiting to be part of this!!!!
Ok, so getting cookies and muffins at the same time is a pretty good deal if you ask me. And since they contain fruit, I’m pretty sure that makes them healthy.. sort of. ;)
definitely breakfast :) They look so good!
Ummm yes. These are amazing. I’m always trying to turn desserts into something that the general world will recognize as breakfast. I gave up though today. I don’t think there was any way I could make the world see my big piece of chocolate cake as breakfast food (unless I had turned it into french toast…. hmmm, that’s an idea for next time… haha)
Good morning, I love how you write…it made me think of Bill Cosby when he told his daughter she could have cake for breakfast because it had milk and eggs in it! Heehee… I can see by your comments your in need of people to read your blog it’s so quiet here… So if you need a volunteer to help you determine if the food actually taste good… I’m your girl!
Have a wonderful day… this recipe rocks!
Oh my – I can see why these would be all hours of the day and night deliciousness!
Now Taylor Swift? Hmmmmmm…..
How am I supposed to loose the baby weight if you keep posting recipes like this!!!!!
These look absolutely delicious! I can see how you could eat them anytime of the day (or night)! I laughed out loud about Mr. How Sweet and Taylor Swift! :-)
I’ve been craving big fat blueberry muffins like crazy lately with a crumb topping! It must be the season. These look delicious!
Those blueberries look ready to burst! My favorite :)
And I don’t know. Taylor Swift is pretty cute!
What perfect timing! I just picked 3 lbs of blueberries yesterday and I can’t WAIT to make these!!
Omg, YUM. … Love that these are a breakfast cookie type treat :) Totally making these for the hubby when he comes home this weekend!
I just want to make everything you put on your blog! Blueberries in cookies?! You just stole my heart!
Yum!! I have to make those today. Thanks for sharing.
They truly do look like a cross between cookies and muffins! Awesome :) My husband will love you (as if he doesn’t enough already)
You are so creative! I love blueberry muffins and cookies so I’m sure these taste wonderful!
Ooh…I have event to go to this weekend in which I am supposed to bring a dessert for a crowd. This is it! Awesome.

Never thought to put fresh blueberries in cookies! I’ve used dried ones… but these look amazing!
maybe these could be called real muffin tops! can’t wait to try!
(tip-o’-the-invisible-hat to you)
I want to make approximately 60 of these to consume, at will, over the weekend.
We’ll see what time allows, but BEAUTIFUL recipe/pictures!
