Tuesday Things.
1. The NASCAR gods were not on my side this weekend… after teasing me with a cancelled race on Sunday and the promise of a race on Monday while my husband was at work so it could only be DVRed… it just had to be on last night. I was in NASCAR jail, where bedtime is at 8:46PM. Fine by me.
2. I’m pretty sure the new Martha Stewart line at Staples will be the death to all notebook/pencil/office supply loving freaks out there… especially me.
3. Apparently it’s national pancake day, but I thought that one day last week was national pancake day? I can’t get this stuff straight so why don’t all these people who make all these national days up just get together and straighten it out. I’M SO UNEASY.
4. You know that picture of the grilled sandwich I posted on Sunday? Yeeeeeeeeaaah that would be a grilled chocolate cheddar cheese.
5. Yes. I’m serious.
6. It’s the chocolate cheddar cheese from Trader Joe’s and after buying it a few weeks ago, the cashier told me that I MUST make a chocolate cheddar grilled cheese. So I went home and did just that. Immediately. I’ve never been good at following instructions but for some reason this time I did. Shocking.
7. You know how I have all sorts of weirdo obsessions for someone in their 20s, like James Taylor and Kenny Loggins and other stuff like that? I also have a weird obsession with Meryl Streep in that I want her to be my BEST FRIEND. I know it’s all It’s Complicated’s fault.
8. That vodka-laced marshmallow fluff milkshake I had this weekend? I’ve been dreaming of it ever since. This is not fair.
9. I really want to throw a big leap year party tomorrow buuuuuut I don’t have enough friends.
10. Who has tried the birthday cake oreos? I have resisted buying them because I have enough dessert in this house without needing a package full of oreos. But I desperately want to buy them just to make these.
11. My house is currently being overtaken by magazines. I have a serious problem. Save my soul.
12. Wait. I’m going to save myself and go buy the oreos right now. I can’t take it anymore.

Where are all of these “national __insert food name here_____ days” listed at? I thought I missed national pancake day last week, now I missed it twice? What the what? I was in Nascar hell last night as my dad insisted that he flip the channel during the Voice commercials just so he could make fun of Danica Patrick being dead last. O lawd! Grilled cheese with chocolate? I MUST TRY THIS ASAP!
Yes my bedtime was about 8:06pm last night due…only to be awakened with ‘Lisa’ are you awake you got to see this?…something about a fire. Oy, me no likey Nascar. Except the Jimmy Johnson guy…he’s beautiful.
And apparently I’ve been living under a rock…I must go google birthday cake oreos.
There is nothing wrong with wanting Meryl Streep to be your best friend. I do, too!! She would be the BEST drinking buddy.
You want to be friends with Meryl Streep, I want to be friends with Oprah. It’s all good :).
Birthday Cake OREOS???? OMG!
How many NASCAR drivers does it take to start a fire? Just Juan!
I loved Meryl Streep in “Julie and Julia.” She played such a convincing Julia Childs! And I just saw “The Devil Wears Prada” again on tv, where she had an equally impressive (albeit less lovable) performance. I don’t really like Oreos or birthday cake but those brownies still look A-MAZING!
P.S. I don’t know how many votes you will end up with in the HOMIES, but I totally think you should win the best food photography category. I love your photography… and your blog!!
I was totally confused by the pancake day today too. I totally thought that was last Tuesday. Wth?
Buy the oroes…make the brownies. Its the right decision.
I totally went out and bought the Oreo’s the day that post was put up. I’m making the brownies next weekend for my hubby’s birthday =)
I bought them and the smell is verrrrryyyyyyy artificial..yet I will continue to eat them..nom nom nom!
For the people confused about pancakecentric “national” days, I’m an American living in Britain so I think I can help.
Shrove Tuesday (or Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras or the day before Lent or the Day of Booze and Boobies) is often acknowledged in England (and the rest of the UK to my knowledge) with the preparation and consumption of pancakes (the ones they make here are much thinner than ours and are closer to crepes and are totally lovely). As far as I know, this is tradition other places (Canada, Australia, other former British colonies) but just fell out of common practice in the US (but don’t quote me on this bit because I’m not positive).
Now, National Pancake Day is usually Feb 28th; I have no idea how “national” this day is but all I know is that IHOPs across the country give away free pancakes. So yeah, I hope that clears things up.
Grilled chocolate cheddar cheese sounds intriguing. I may have to give that a try. Another good combo is sharp cheddar or red leicester and banana jam. So tasty!
Cheese and chocolate ooooooo that sounds weird but yum! x x
O.M.Gee birthday cake oreos? Huhjdxgjbbgccch! And like my birthday is in March so this is like destiny. Will you pretty please buy these and make me a recipe with them + birthday cake vodka? You know like a boost Oreo milkshake? I’ll love you forever in a totally noncreepy way :)
I actually have boozy cookies and cream shakes on my list to make already!!
*boozy not boost. Damn you auto correct boozy is totally a word.
Yes, I could probably be your mother (a teenage one, of course!), but if I lived closer I would so be your friend, and not just to come to your Leap Year Party, but that would be a perk. I would also try your vodka laced milkshakes and not let you experiment with the birthday cake oreos alone. As always, *love* your wit and sarcasm…oh, and your recipes are amazing, too! Happy Leap Year!
So you bought the chocolate cheddar cheese! Is it not INSANE? I’ve been using it as lipstick. And then licking it off. Times 45.
I just saw the Martha Stewart line at Staples and love it as well. I’m thinking I’m going to get some of those cute little boxes and make some sort of jewelry organizer. Love that you can get them with lids too. If you go on Staples’ website you can get a coupon for that line.
I haven’t seen those Oreo’s, except for on blogs. If you get them, let us know how they taste.
By the way, #9 made me laugh. :)
I made those birthday cake oreos and they are a game changer…but good luck not eating all the oreos straight out of the box because they are THAT good
ok i didnt make the oreos, but the birthday cake oreo brownies. I unfortunately dont know how to make the actual Oreo :)
I’ve been avoiding the birthday cake oreos like the plague too…we recently tried the mint ones and they’re bad news…it’s WAY too easy to go through an entire box. I was having a serious magazine issue for a while too…I instituted a mandatory go-through-one-magazine-and-rip-out-what-you-want policy for each weekend and that has helped immensely. I get to read my magazines and then let them sit for a month or two, and then I can go back and decide what I really want to keep from them and then let them go without freaking.
the oreos are AMAZING. i bought them just to try and ate an entire row in about 3 minutes lol. i just looked at the brownie recipe…. wow.
so many things! I need those oreos and need to go to trader joes to get some of that cheese!! whaaat?!
If I lived near you, I would completely come to your Leap Year Party…I hope that didn’t sound stalkerish or weird…
You always remind me how I need to go to Trader Joe’s more often. Chocolate Cheddar?? I am missing out!
I have totally been resisting the birthday cake oreos too. Those brownies might be justification enough!
Buy the oreos. you will thank me. I dare you not to eat the entire package. I threatened Target today because how dare they “celebrate” oreo’s 100th birthday but NOT have the birthday cake oreos. Get with it Target.
after reading this post, I went into the kitchen and made a grilled cheese/chocolate sandwich…for breakfast…i hope you’re happy. (because I am…it was amazing)
don’t worry those ores stink major let down
I bought the oreos on whim b/c we were having a birthday party that night at our house and could hardly walk by the display without grabbing some. It just seemed necessary. Of course I opened the package in the car and ate one. Then I ate another one in the driveway to confirm my opinion… sad to say, not that great. Tasted really artificial. I gave them to my little cousin who is 14. She was so stoked. The best part of them is the pretty birthday packaging.
I may be going to Trader Joe’s ASAP. Grilled cheese is pretty much my favorite food lately. Adding in chocolate sounds AMAZING!
Also…made some beer risotto with the chicken and mushrooms last night. The boy I date LOVED it. Thanks, Jessica!
It’s Complicated is the best. I just want to go LIVE inside of that movie! And that house. And that kitchen. And her bakery. And her life in general. Whenever I feel sad, I stop being sad and watch it’s complicated. True story.
ALSO, I need your help jessica!! I gave up sweets for lent (I am the biggest sweet tooth EVER… i’m talking like a huge bag of sweedish fish for dinner and sugar packets in my mocha sweet-tooth.) And i AM DYING. I need something that will fulfill my craving, but that doesn’t qualify as cheating. PLEASE HELP ME. I literally ate a package of mentos last night because they are technically “Mints” and not candy.
1. meryl streep is so talented it’s crazy! played an awesome julia child and loved her in devil wears prada. 2. MUST try this chocolate grilled cheese 3. followed with birthday oreos for dessert :)
The real Pancake Day is Shrove Tuesday.
Magazines?
It is so hard to pass them by isn’t it? Especially if they have something mouthwatering on the cover.
I never thought I would say this .. but.. have you ever thought of getting your subscriptions online for the computer?
Just a thought.
i’m so bummed Trader Joe’s is sold of of the Chocolate Cheddar cheese. :(
Did you know that you can make a cute magazine chair with all of your magazines?!
#2 – Already pinned the goodies I want!!!!
I saw the display of Birthdau Oreos and immeditely threw one in my cart without even knowing they were actually birthday cake flavored. The cream was speckled with bright colors, how could I even resist? I was beyond excited when I got home and tried them. Just opening the package is intoxicating in itself. Yes the smell is artificial but it smells like Birthday Cake Oreo HEAVEN. We went through the package in 2 days. That’s right my husband who doesn’t like cake love them. He loves James Taylor too.
I went grocery shopping again this week and didn’t see them I was devasated. I put some Raspberry Burst Ice Cream Oreos in my cart instead. I go to the checkout and well, a giant display of the Birthday Cake Oreos! I put 3 in my cart and as soon as I got home put them in the basement pantry. I need to be able to savor them and besides I had to try the Raspberry Burst Ice Cream to see if it was any good. (not that good) So I’m hoarding Birthday Cake Oreos, I will probably buy 3 more tomorrow!
So a couple of weeks ago t’partner and I were in the grocery store and he spies Birthday Cake Oreos, and we get some because they’re on sale. I am totally prepared to not like them, because they are the kind of fake flavor and messing with a classic type of food I usually despise.
I have eaten three boxes.
They have SPRINKLES in the FILLING.
Also they are somehow DELICIOUS and I am NOT SURE HOW.
