September Favorites: Beauty.
I just wrote August. AUGUST! I am a month behind in life, gah.
But no, September! How can it be? What beauty things are you going crazy over right now? Pumpkin spice lip balm? I CAN’T. No no no.
Here are the things I loved and used all month, an itty bitty bit late. Ooooh and I’m still really liking the Urban Decay AfterDark matte lipstick. I’ve worn that color almost every single day this month when I’ve left the house. After a few times, it really started reminding me of MAC Rebel! But it’s much more comfortable than Rebel. And smoother too.
What else? Lots o’ fun:
Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. After only using this sparingly the last few months, I had a few great uses for this recently and fell head over heels. Especially because I used this on straight hair AND curled hair! I love that it truly did what it says it does: added a bit of dry texture. No sticky feeling like dry shampoo sometimes can. Just this perfect textured piece-y-ness that is awesome.
Pixi Glow Tonic. This called my name in Target and even though I’m a slave to my Caudalie moisturizing toner, I wanted to try this on my face about two to three days a week. I’ve been using it and looooove it. It’s still kinda pricey for Target, but I swear my skin is slightly more glowy?
Amore Pacific Enzyme Peel. I had one of these before I got pregnant and then took a break while knocked up. This is such a lovely exfoliator and gentle enough for my sorta-sensitive skin. I use it about twice per week. I love that it comes out as a powder and then you mix it with water to crate the scrub. It’s really cool and feels soothing but also like it’s exfoliating. It’s a little on the fancy side but it’s one of those things that is making me feel pampered at the moment. I do like it better than any other face scrub I’ve recently tried.
Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit. I hate doing this to you because this has been discontinued for two years now (PUHLEASE bring it back) and this is my final bottle, over halfway gone. Boo. It’s the best warm, autumn scent. I mean, ginger biscuit? Jo Malone can do no wrong, ever. If this comes back into play, you must get it. I can’t live without it and now must hoard the rest for scent nostalgia purposes.
Nails Inc Bamboo White. A little piece of me hates myself for buying this. I held out for a year and then caved. Right now I’m obsessing over nude nail polish or something? I really love nude nails on hands and dark on toes or vice versa. I’ve heard about this shade forever and whoa… it’s gorgeous. Totally works on my pale skin, it’s not streaky and it’s just so pretty. Looks a little more pinky nude on my skin tone.
Essie Frock n roll. For my dark! I actually bought this back in August but waited until this month to wear it. It’s sort of brownish-purpleyish with rose gold sparkle? Very very pretty.
MAC Mehr lipstick. I’ve had this shade for two years and have always been on the fence (obviously, judging by the amount used). The whole brown lipstick trend thing doesn’t look great with my coloring at all, but I have REALLY been liking this shade this month if I don’t won’t to go as bold as the After Dark listed above. I like this best with no shadow, huge lashes and some bronzer. I don’t love it with a bolder eye look.
Benefit Gimme Brow. I know I know I know. It’s like the fourth time I’m mentioning this but OMG. I think in the last two months, I’ve only filled in my brows with a brush + shadow ONCE. That is huge. I recently bought a new one of these and didn’t realize how fabulous it is once replaced. It absolutely gives my brows enough definition for everyday. And if you’re freaked out about bold brows, try the lighter shade or a super light hand. Seriously, this stuff is amazing.
Marc Jacobs Highliner pencil is jazz berry. Um, hello. JAZZ BERRY?! Best name ever. This is a plummy shade that looks good with my green eyes. Seriously, I’m pretty sure that back in the day I read in a tween magazine that purple shades worked on green eyes and I have always ran with it. Also, these crayons are really comfortable to use on the eyes!
MAC Warm Soul blush. This is an oldie but goodie, and I needed a blush change. I like this for fall since it has a bit of shimmer. It kind of reminds me of Tarte Exposed, but slightly peach-ier and lightly highlighting. Sort of like an autumn bronzer?
Hourglass Icon Lipgloss. I LOVE this product and the icon shade is perfect for the chillier weather – it’s a bit more brick red than the brighter red I was wearing in summer. This stuff also feels nice on the lips compared to all the matte liquid lipsticks that are out.
And that’s a wrap!
So what’s on your current list? Ummm I already have a running list on my phone about what I want to get from the VIB sale. First up: the Tom Ford Noir for women. I sprayed it on my arm last week and could not stop smelling it. Freaking love!
{as usual, none of this is sponsored and all of these products were purchased by me. i am not affiliated with any of the companies above, nor do i accept free products. just love to talk about what i like, makeup junkie to makeup junkie. there are a few amazon affiliate links above. thank you for being here!}

I adore that AmorePacific enzyme peel. I like the smell, too. (Is that weird? DON’T TELL ME IT’S WEIRD) Tatcha Rice Enzyme Powder is similar, but I love the AmorePacific peel the most. My current go-to matte lip product is NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream. Long lasting and does not dry out my lips. I’ve been wearing two shades, Amsterdam and Sao Paulo. Super inexpensive but great. I’m currently keeping a bottle of Simple Micellar Water in the fridge. When I wake up in the morning I put some on a cotton pad & wipe my face down. I love that it is keeping me from overwashing my face but giving me clean skin as a base for moisturizer. On my VIB sale wishlist: I am intrigued by the Elizabeth & James dry shampoo as I love the Black & White scents worn layered. I may have to pick some up. I want to try the Sephora Oil Infusion lip stain too.
Yeah MAC Mehr! If you want a similar look for cooler undertones, Pink Plaid is pretty dope, too.
(I feel like we are lipstick spirit animals.)
Omg I am obsessed with Icon..I wear it all the time and always get so many compliments on it. I love the finish on it. So pretty. Also obsessed with gimme brow..I just got into really doing my brows about a year or so ago and now I can’t leave the house without them filled in! Its so quick and easy to use. I recently bought Kat Von D Shade Light palette and its really nice if you’re into matte shadows. I also got my first tarte blush in fearless and love it!
First of all, let me say that I have pale, dry skin, so we are skin twins! I have been OB.SESSED. with the BECCA shimmering skin perfector pressed in moonstone. It is so pretty I can’t STAND IT. For foundation I’ve been mixing one pump of the BECCA shimmering skin perfector (liquid) with two pumps of Josie Maran Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 Protect + Perfect – this tinted moisturizer is maybe SLIGHTLY too dark for my skin, but the BECCA brings it down a few notches and makes me glowy. This combo has been amazing for my skin as the weather gets colder… highly recommended!!
Love your beauty post! Hey, would love to see a list of what you’re buying at the VIB sale! I didn’t have many beauty favs this last month since I just gave birth in August and much prefer sleeping than getting ready in front of a mirror but my most used items were the Maybelline dark circle eraser (hello drugstore concealer that is amazing!), Lise Watier Rivage bronzing powder (Canadian product!), Bobbi Brown shadow stick in Vanilla, Sephora brand matte eyeliners (they are truly awesome!), Dior lash primer and Benefit Rollerlash mascara. I tend to use my different Fresh lip balms for a bit of color on my lips… that way I can kiss that newborn of mine without covering her in lipstick ;)
Hi there, I look forward to this post each month!!
I have a question I’m hoping hoooping you’ll answer. I am getting married and need a good lipstick. It can’t be sticky or smudgy, and I’d like it to last most of the day.. maybe with 1 or 2 reapplications. What brand/product would you recommend??
Thank you so much for answering!!!
ooooh i feel like a makeup artist could give you better tips, but i think the number one thing is line your lips!! with the exact color of the lipstick – fill them in completely. the downside of having a lipstick that won’t move all day is that it probably will be super drying on your lips. i think if you line your lips and then use a matching lipstick, carry some lipbalm in a little clutch for comfort. my two favorite lip brands are probably MAC and Urban Decay, they have so many colors you can choose from.
That MAC blush looks perfect for fall!

I’ve been on the hunt for a good blush for the fall. I might have to try warm soul from Mac!

Hah! I am painting my nails with frock ‘n’ roll as I reading this. LOVE it.
Have you tried the Tom Ford Noir Extreme?! Its men’s cologne, but if you like Noir for women, you will certainly like this. Its a touch stronger, but lovely. Its so perfect for this time of year. I typically wear Thierry Mugler Alien, and the Noir Extreme is a good alternative.
skin junkie book for you! SKIN CLEANSE. go. read. report. it TOTALLY changed my approach to products. would love to hear your reaction!

I, too, love Jo Malone ginger biscuit. My dresser top is loaded with Jo Malone colognes. My new favorite is Mimosa & Cardamon for fall this year. Try it. You might like it better than ginger biscuit. I do!
hmmmm…the only thing i can think of the last month that i have tried is grandiose mascara from lancome. its got a weird brush. application is ok and it gives decent results but i feel like i have to pick at it a lot to get it perfect. and who has time for that ????? i literally just got a brown/burgandy lipstick in a sub box and wore it saturday and felt so weird about it. im with you…its just difficult to get into the brownish lipstick look. for some reason its such a shocker on my skin tone ? dont really know why though ? i just yesterday used my michael kors suede perfume as my first back into fall perfume. i will miss all the florals and such of summer !!!!
I have that Oribe texture spray and freaking love it. Especially the smell!!! I use it very sparingly. Waaaah, I went to MAC last week to buy Mehr and they did not have it. I need to try Nordstrom next. Seriously, I need to binge now on your Beauty Favs and Tuesday Things. I feel so out of touch with you. LOLOLOL!!!
LOVE the benefit gimme brow! nice favs! xoxo
omg holiday makeup sets and so many new things out right now that i am losing my mind and patience over. the VIB sale is so. far. away.
-the holiday tarte blush set (caved and had to buy it – i was afraid it would sell out!) 5 colors!
-the glamglow lip treatment (a dream)
-the sephora on walnut st. now has giorgio armani and i am sitting here at a loss for words. everything is so amazing!!!!!! i bought a liner and gloss/stick last week because the lovely people there can sell me anything! i am for SURE buying the maestro foundation.
-have you tried the kat von d everlasting liquid lipstick? it’s so good too (maybe a little drying but that’s what the glam glow lip treatment is for now!) the colors are so pretty!! but literally sold out everywhere.
-back on glamglow. because i am obsessed and have enough to not run out for like 3 years. but i really want to buy one of the new sets because they have the brush with them and they must work so much better with the brush to paint them on!
-there are so many great holiday sets this year!!!
-even though there is an extremely overwhelming amount of those single-use sheet masks, i picked up three the other day and I LOVE!!! i tried the boscia brightening gel mask and the results were amazing! the actual gel ones stay on soooo much better than the sheet ones they also said that the when brightening mask is really good too.
now that i’ve junked up your comments with my VIB sale list (i just get so excited!!!!!!) can’t wait to see what you pick up!
Oh my god, Gimme Brow just arrived in the mail and wow. Thank you so much for that review!!!!!
