Fresh Mango Margarita Frosty.
If you can’t eat a perfect mango straight, what are you going to do with it? That is the question.
Let me help you figure it out. Puhlease. Hint hint.^^^^^
While most food blogs go crazy over the holiday season right before Christmas, I like to think of late April and early May – like these next few weeks – as the craziest and best recipe time on the internets. There are three of my favorite celebrations, Cinco de Mayo, the Kentucky Derby and Mother’s Day that fall all in the same WEEK.
How to choose what to make? What to serve? When and what to celebrate and can we mix some of the dishes?! I vote yes.
You have go to stay tuned. I have a billion and one ideas for you in the next ten days. It’s going to be soooo hard to pick, so I say celebrate three days in a row.
Boom.
Done. Easy!
Number one: the frostiest mango margartita, made with fresh fruit, lots of lime, lots of tequila and a touch of grand marnier.
It totally needs to be your cocktail or dessert of choice whether it be this weekend or on cinco de mayo. Let’s say this weekend though. Because I can’t wait one more minute for you to try it. It’s like I’m (not-so) secretly five years old.
I find that mangos are like peaches. I seriously only get about TWO good ones per year. A good mango is a great mango and makes you realize what you’re missing when you live in a chillier climate. A bad mango tastes like sour flowers to me and makes me never want to eat another mango again in my life ever.
Therefore… I bought five. Out of five, I ended up with two-and-a-half good ones (don’t ask) which translated to about 4 to 5 cups of fresh mango chunks. Could they BE anymore delicious?
No they couldn’t Chandler, no they could not.
If you can’t find the fresh GOOD mango, no big deal. Use frozen chunks. I find them at Trader Joe’s or Target. It will make the drink extra frosty and you will probably just want to use a little less ice.
Annnnd as you can see, a few chili powder sprinkles made their way on top of the frosty. It’s completely your choice. Sometimes I’m feeling it, sometimes I’m not.
This entire cup though? I’m feeling the whole thing. It tastes like SUMMER.
Now the question: slurp or spoon?
Fresh Mango Margarita Frosty
Ingredients
- 4 cups fresh mango chunks
- 4 cups ice
- 1/2 cup silver tequila
- 1/2 cup freshly squeeze lime juice
- 1/4 cup grand marnier liqueur
- pinch of salt
- lime wedges for garnish
- chili powder for sprinkling
- simple syrup, if needed for sweetness
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a high powered blender and… blend! Taste and if desired, add a little more tequila or a little simple syrup – whatever you need. I like to blend without the simple syrup and then taste and add it if the mango is not sweet enough.
- Spoon the frosty into cups and serve with lime wedges. Sprinkle with chili powder if you’d like!
- If your mango isn’t sweet enough, add a few tablespoons of simple syrup! To make the syrup, heat 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water over medium heat, whisking until the sugar dissolves. Bring to a boil then turn off the heat and let cool to room temp.

p.s. slurp is one of THOSE words. Makes me cringe.

this looks amazing! I will make one tonight. but your mango experience makes me sad! I’m in Philadelphia, and we just bought our third CASE of mangos (the champagne ones) from whole foods, and they are amazing (and cheap by the case!)! if I only had a few good ones, I’d be so bummed! I hope there are more delicious mangos in your life this week!
Woo hoo! This looks amazing. Good mangos are so hard to find. Although I happen to have two in my refrigerator right now. So that’s probably a sign that this should happen for Thirsty Thursday!
SERIOUSLY loving this. I freakin’ love mangos, they’re just sort of a pain to cut and it’s super hard to tell whether it’ll be awesome or a complete flop before you actually have a taste. I alwaysalwaysalways buy mango chunks from TJ’s – and I know what they’ll be turned into this weekend!
Since seeing this picture on your instagram, I couldn’t wait until the actual recipe was posted!! Verdict: HOLY YUM! My family is originally from the Caribbean, so I’ve been pretty lucky to eat some crazy delicious mangoes. Living in Canada now … yea, I’m guaranteed maybe a couple for the season.

This looks and sounds SO refreshing!! Such a treat for the warmer weather :)
3 months to go cooking this little babe of mine and this has just been added to my list of cocktails I’ll NEED come August!
I just ended up with a box of verrrry ripe mangoes and now I know exactly what to do with them! Obsessed with the touch of chilli powder too!
Gah, I can practically taste this! I’ve actually had so much luck with champagne mangos lately! Like, every one I buy is amazing. I NEVER have luck with the green ones though. Don’t understand it.
You are making me want to grab a straw and head straight to happy hour… at 10 am. I had the best mango of my life when I was in Dolores Hidalgo, Mexico – served from a fruit cart on the street, sprinkled with lime juice and sea salt! And I have been trying to replicate that elusive moment ever since!
yep, I can totally get down with having mango this way!!
YAAASSSSS!
so much yas.
This looks delicious! I will definitely be making this in the summer, if the UK ever gets there! We went to Mexico in Feb and had a lot of tequila so this will bring back good memories!
I only pick up my mangos at the Mexican markets here in California. I feel like they have all of the good ones while my standard grocery store has rock hard mangos.

haha yes — slurp still reminds me of joe millionaire’s most cringe-worthy scene
Mangoes usually do NOT last long enough in my house for anything other than eating, but this…I have to save them for! Also, Grand Marnier, forever and ever!
Champagne mangos from Costco – they come in a case of 6 and each one is perfect! And that’s coming from a fellow Pittsburgher ;) I’d make these if I wasn’t pregnant…
This looks absolutely delish. This is going on my weekend to do list…I’ll have one, or two, or three! :)
Omg, these look INCREDIBLE. And the touch of chili powder puts it over the top! I am sooooo making these.
This is truely the best mango masterpiece i have ever seen

hey girl this looks amazing! Yummy!
I am always wondering if mixing fruits or other ingredients considered as healthy with % forced liquids preserves the nutritional values of the first ones? ;)
We twinned again! I shared frozen margs yesterday too! Great minds :) These look fabulous!
Delicious mango frosty!! I love mangoes in any form. I can eat (slurp of course) it whole day without any hesitation. There is a reason why it is called king of fruits.. :-P
I love the pictures! The domed shaped of the drink almost spilling over the edge is the definition of drink porn. Mangos are so frustrating, and you’re right-you have to buy extra. I hate when one has all the indications of being ripe and delicious and then it ends up tasting flat! What’ s up with that!?
They look great. Mango flavor sounds amazing right now, thanks for sharing

YUM!!! I think I could happily drink these all Summer long.
Growing up in a tropical island, we used to pick up the mangoes fallen from the trees (at their juiciest and sweetest point)during their peak season, actually starting next month as the neighbors with overflowing trees used to beg us to come and pick up the fallen mangoes. It stinks a lot, if you have a whole bunch of rotten mangoes on your backyard and not even mention stepping into a rotten mango is disgusting. I miss those times. Now I have to buy my mangoes at BJ’s, Champagne case of six, they are good (the best I have found so far) but never compare to the ones growing up. Making this drink for Kentucky Derby street party.
