S’mores French Toast. {Video!}
I s’mored your french toast.
I did it. I went ahead and did it.
Trashed up breakfast is my middle name.
A few weeks ago, my friend Kristen instagrammed a picture of s’mores French toast and IMMEDIATELY I was like… that has to happen. It’s happening. I couldn’t wait one more second so I actually made it the next day. Sometimes I get a recipe bug like that in my mind and can’t rest until it’s done.
And it didn’t disappoint.
I was afraid that I wouldn’t be into it. That there would be a whole slew of texture issues, that it would be too sweet, that it would be way too trashy and that it just might not WORK. Like melty marshmallow and bread? Sounds weird.
But guess what.
It WORKED.
The bread is dipped in an egg + cream mixture and then coated in graham cracker crumbs for some crunch. Whoooaaa. This is so delicious. How can I even make regular french toast again?
It also wasn’t an entirely new process or idea to my brain, because you might remember ages ago (like a billion years) I posted a cornflake crusted French toast on the site. It was stuffed with chocolate and peanut butter.
So obviously my trashy ways have not gone by the wayside. Thank heavens.
After your toast is fried in butter (because that’s all the s’mores need: BUTTER), it’s placed on a baking sheet, covered with a bit of chopped chocolate and then a few marshmallows. And broiled! So the marshmallows get all melted and gooey and just like they’ve been hanging out over a fire.
Without the major char. Unless you’re like me and must catch them on fire to enjoy.
So, I mean, this is an acceptable breakfast, right?
S'mores French Toast.
Ingredients
- 4 thick slices of bread, slightly stale if possible
- 4 large eggs
- 1/3 cup half and half
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
- pinch of salt
- 1 cup graham cracker crumbs, plus extra for sprinkling
- 6 ounces high-quality chocolate (dark or milk), your choice!
- 1 1/2 cups mini marshmallows
- butter for the pan
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add a tablespoon or so of butter to the griddle.
- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, half and half, vanilla extract, cinnamon and salt. Dip each piece of bread in the mixture until it’s coated on both sides. Dip it in the graham crumbs and press gently so the crumbs adhere to all sides. Place it on the buttered skillet. Repeat with remaining bread. Cook until the sides of the toast and golden brown and set. Place the french toast pieces on a baking sheet.
- Heat the broiler in your oven to high. Sprinkle a bit of chopped chocolate on the toast, then cover each piece with mini marshmallows. Add a bit more chopped chocolate over top. Place the sheet with the toast until the broiler and broil just until the marshmallows are golden. Don’t remove your eyes from the toast! It will only take 30 seconds or so.
- Serve the toast immediately. You can serve it with maple syrup if desired – but I melted a little bit of the leftover chocolate and drizzled it on top!

you mention about dipping it in graham crumbs but I don’t see that as part of your recipe or instructions?

Looks amazing! The graham crumbs aren’t in the actual recipe…did you dip them in after the egg batter?
