Tuesday Things.
1. I am having the hardest time letting go of this holiday season! Usually I’m ready to get back in the routine, and while I AM ready, I still don’t want to say goodbye to this season. Can I just be that person that leaves the tree up year round? How can I add some twinkle lights into our rooms without making them seem college dorm-like.
2. Dying over this chocolate truffle torte. OMG.
3. My friend Rachel lists the best things she wrote and read in 2019. Rachel is the best writer I know and I trust her recommendations 100%. I admire her and look up to her. You have to see this list! I devour everything she writes.
4. Okay so I finished The Americans last night! I haven’t binged a whole show like that in a long time. I almost lost it on season 5 – I hated it, it was SO boring! The whole show reminded me of Homeland (so far) where the first seasons are incredible and the last drag on like a turtle. So glad I finished it though. Keri Russel is forever my Felicity.
5. So good: we learned to write they way we talk.
6. Remember when I decided that I was an August planner person? Now that it’s January of course I’m like I NEED A NEW PLANNER! And I keep seeing amazing ones. Tell me which one you’re using this year! I’m just curious, because I won’t switch from my beloved passion planner.
7. 50 ways to be happier + healthier in the new year.
8. So much I loved about the Golden Globes! Billy Porter’s outfit was amazzzzing, by far the best. I want both Ellen and Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s suits! And an unpopular opinion, but I liked J Lo’s dress!
9. In case you were also all about the Brad Pitt/Leo love fest, they recorded a podcast together on Marc Maron!!

I used to not want to undecorate from the holidays and then my epiphany was to do winter decor! It makes January fun & fresh and still festive! I do greenery, tiny white lights and snowmen. I pull out winter picture books for my kids and it really is a baby step to no seasonal decor.
I’m totally feel you on wanting to switch planners frequently as I get into different rhythms throughout the year. No recommendations but have you thought about a 6-month planner? I am considering this myself because I also have that January – June, July – December break in my head. I like to see the full year but want a fresh start too. So many choices!
I am an July – June planner but switched this year The Appointed. Anna Edit (youtuber/blogger) mentioned it and loved the layout. So now I’m a Jan – Dec planner. However, I can always revert back. *wink*.
I quit watching The Americans season 5…. So boring. Now I’m wondering if I should revisit and finish?
I’m all for keeping up as many lights as possible until our day light starts to come back🙌🏻 Because, as you say, WE DO WHAT WE WANT🙌🏻
Of course you can leave your tree up all year long and remove Christmas decorations and put on winter items. Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it so have a Valentine decorated tree; so on and so on.
In years long ago, my tree used to stay up all year long and would change out the decorations to whatever holiday it was; New Years Eve party or whatever. Decorate in favorite sports colors, whether it be football, hockey, baseball, etc.
Decorate up your tree for birthday’s , anniversaries, baby showers, etc. Can’t forget the World Series, Super Bowl and then you have Spring, Summer, Fall & back to Winter again.
The whole idea is just to have fun with it. Can even add decorations to your light strings you have hung up as well.
I have a rough time with paper planners. I love them, but I have certain demands: 1) it be a daily planner (i.e., a whole page for each day); 2) it run January-December; and 3) it have a pretty cover. I don’t need a lot of bells and whistles and stickers and motivational phrases that jack up the price of a planner to $50 or more. I just need 1, 2, and 3. I can find 1 and 2 usually, but finding 1 and 2 with 3 is difficult. :-) This year, I’m using a “Yao Chen for Blue Sky” planner I found at Staples for about $25-$30. The most I’ve ever spent on a planner, but it’s very pretty, and nice, big pages with tons of room to write for each day. So far, so good!
A friend decorates most of her house for winter, bot Christmas (think white lights in the dining room, blue, silver and white dining room table display). And then adds in the tree and lots of nativities. After new year, she takes down the Christmas tree and nativities and leaves the other half of the decorations up until February!
I haven’t used a paper planner for a few years now which has lightened my load of what I carry around everyday. I went full Google calendar and appreciate the simplicity of that. However, I have a budget book and always make lists on paper so I’m considering going back to a planner to keep all of that in one place. Tracy @shutterbean just posted about her Moleskin Pro planner and I’m thinking of going with one of those.
The payoff of the final season of the American’s is worth the first few dullsville episodes.
Go watch Cottonstem on Instagram! She just did a winter twinkle light super easy diy. You’ll love it! ✨
