Tuesday Things.
1. This iced pineapple sweet tea sounds amazing and so refreshing!
2. Also, just FYI: how to make a single glass of lemonade.
3. I know I keep saying I feel like it is still March, but on the other hand I feel like the fall/holidays will arrive in 10 minutes. This time is so so so weird.
4. What are you reading right now? My June recap is coming later this week, but yesterday I finished The Lies That Bind and absolutely loved it.
5. If you’ve ever wanted to write a novel, Emma talks about writing her first during qaurantine! So inspiring.
6. TV things! The only thing we’re really watching right now is Yellowstone (and it is SO GOOD). But has anyone else watched Floor is Lava on netflix? OMG, Max is loving it. And if you played that made up game as a kid, you get major nostalgia vibes. Who even came up with this!
7. Who else is losing their mind with excitement over Hamilton coming out this Friday?!
8. We’re living in the retro future. This!! I’ve thought the same so many times.
9. Speaking of… does anyone else keep their sourdough starter for all things except… bread? Ha. I can’t nail the bread and at this point the process is just so long that I’ve lost patience. But I do love using the starter in so many other things.
10. Hello, can someone please come build me this playhouse?!

I’ve been wondering why you haven’t been sharing your sourdough bread adventures! I’m a quarantine-newbie sourdough gal as well and I’ve found that splitting up the sourdough bread making process with an overnight rest definitely helps to make it more manageable time-wise. After making my dough, I do 4 sets of stretch and folds (2 with 15 mins rest in between and 2 with 30 mins rest in between), let the dough rest for 2 hours longer, then pop in the fridge overnight. You can take the dough out first thing in the morning and it’s ready to bake around lunchtime (or you could even proof around 80 degrees to speed things up). I’ve also found that i just keep the lid to my dutch oven on the whole 47-50 mins of baking or else it gets more brown than we prefer, so that helps cut down on the step of needing to pause to take the lid off.
Keep trying – fresh sourdough is SO WORTH IT! I cannot even tell you my newfound obsession. I am usually the person who forgoes the bread basket at a restaurant (what are those, anyway? :P) but find myself taking a big chomp out of the end of my freshly baked boules…
Good luck!
this is exactly what i’ve been doing too! but still, i just don’t have that chunk of hours during the week where i feel like i can babysit it (mostly because it distracts from the work day too much!)! and then on the weekends i just want to be outside, and not worrying about it. i’m basically the worst, LOL.
i do totally agree tho, i want to do it. i’m also not a huge bread person but sourdough gets me everytime!
We are loving Floor is Lava, we watch with my daughter who is 7 – and she thinks it is HILARIOUS! We are also into Be Our Chef on Disney+ as a family. And for grown up shows, we’re digging the new Perry Mason with Matthew Rhys!
pineapple sweet tea…..YUMMY
If you like thrillers, I would recommend The Other Woman by Sandie Jones. It was really good. I couldn’t put it down. I also really enjoyed The Guest List by Lucy Foley.
Try this sourdough focaccia. I’ve made it in a round cast iron too. It’s so easy and good. I haven’t even tried a regular loaf. Also, my boys love the King Arthur sourdough discard crumpets.

#9-YES!!! I’m just making scallion pancakes or waffles or your crackers-basically anything besides bread (although I have had lots of success with Sourdough Discard Sandwich Bread from The Clever Carrot and ive made that a bunch of times now- it’s not “sourdough” bread but rather a sandwich bread and the kids love it and it doesn’t fail every time LOL)
I’ve had my sourdough starter for a few years and at first I used it for everything but bread. Since I’ve been at home more during quarantine I’ve been making bread and it’s so worth it. I totally agree on doing an overnight rest. I also recently discovered full proof baking on Instagram and YouTube. She has amazing tutorials showing you every step of the process. Since watching her videos my bread has turned out so much better. Last time I included purple sweet potatoes so wound up with purple bread which mu toddler thought was the best thing ever
