Tuesday Things.
1. 100% going to make these favorite chocolate chip cookies.
2. I’ve also been dying to make these lemon bars.
3. One of my worst nightmares ever happened last week… there was a verrrry large bug in my car. A cricket. I mean, we should probably just get rid of the car now.
4. Since I can’t even handle one small bug, my so-called dream of living on a lot of land is one big joke. Or said Eddie says.
5. TV things! I finished Friday Night Lights. I am now in a major depression that it is over. I don’t know how I feel about the ending – ugh! I’m definitely in a show hangover and not sure what to binge next.
6. Speaking of TV, did you watch the Father of the Bride 3 special? I was so, so excited for it. I thought it was cute but ultimately it wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for. Still absolutely love this article by Nancy Meyers. (NYT)
7. Now I’ve decided that time is just going to fast. I mean how is it almost October.
8. How to turn jealousy into productivity!
9. There’s been a redesign in the works here on the site for a long time now – tell me, what is your favorite part of a recipe index? What would you love in a new site?
30 Comments on “Tuesday Things.”
Hi! For your new site – I love the recipe index on the mobile version, being able to sort by ingredient or recipe type, etc. It’s so easy to find recipes I’m looking for, so I almost always use my phone when I need to search for a recipe. If that could be replicated on the non-mobile version, it would be great! Thank you!
Yes! This is what I would like to see as well. The rest I already love.
thanks guys!! def will do this. :)
I also agree with the above. I also wish the search feature had an option to only search recipes. For example, if I search “pumpkin” looking for a fall recipe, all of the Tuesday Things and Currently Crushing On posts comes up (which I love! but don’t typically refer back to when I’m searching).
Agree with Meg here! Excluding the Tuesday Things and Crushing On posts from recipe searches would be ideal.
guys would absolutely LOVE to do this but unfortunately it’s a wordpress plugin thing and out of my control. i can’t exclude anything from searches, the search options for wordpress are just so limited and terrible. :(
the only way it wouldn’t pull anything else is if i only blogged recipes and nothing life-related. i know it’s a pain and drives me crazy too!
I totally understand. Thank you!
Just an idea :) My company uses WordPress for our site too! We use categories for our posts, then have a drop down so you’re able to filter your search based on these categories. Not sure if that would work, but maybe a way to get around their awful search settings.
oh love this!!! i’m going to see if we can do that!!
Hi Jessica! I live in Italy and I’ve been following your blog for quite a while now and absolutely love it. What I would love to see in a new site is the weight equivalents in metric to make things easier for us Europeans who follow your site.
thanks teresa! this will be a feature on my new recipe card!
Agree with the above – it’s hard to search the desktop website by ingredient (if I’m looking for a salmon recipe, I can’t just enter that in the search bar and get recipe results).
Workin’ Moms on Netflix – it’s laugh-out-loud funny. I flew through the 4 seasons – the creator/lead actor is absolutely hilarious, and it’s such a smart show.
thanks maureen!!
I am with you about bugs, Crickets are the worst. I found one in the shower the other day (HOW!!) I want to do live out on a piece of land but my husband would say the same thing about me! We are watching Ratched on Netflix right now and I can’t wait see what happens next. I agree with the comments above, I like searching for recipes that use specific ingredients
omg noooo… LOL! they are the worst.
Agree with the comments above. Also, please keep your home page with all your most current posts like it is now! A couple other blogs I follow have recently changed to a home page that has a whole bunch of random stuff on it (it feels jumbled and messy to me) and it’s almost hard to find the most recent post. If I follow a blog daily (like yours!), I don’t want to have to search to find the most recent post.
omg i totally agree! would never do that either, haha. its one of my pet peeves too!!
Just reiterating previous comments – I feel like your current search function is not user friendly because it pulls in every post with the searched word(s), which makes it difficult to find a specific recipe as it pulls in all of the Crumbs posts as previously mentioned, but also all your round up posts! If there’s any work around for that it would be awesome!
working on this now and i think we came up with a solution!! thanks katie!! :)
I am just so impressed with all the fresh content you create every day!! You post new stuff all the time, and I just love it!! Thank you!
thanks sara!!
I am a huge fan of ALL aspects of How Sweet Eats…save one. The recipe search function is abysmal. SO hoping this can be addressed in the redesign.
For example, when I type “Spaghetti Squash Parmesan” into the site seach bar I get the following:
#1 Broccoli Cheddar Spaghetti Squash followed by 3 recipe round-ups
#4 is getting closer…a picture of the recipe I’m looking for
# 7 is Red wine Bucatini with pancetta & parm
#16 Pumpkin cacio pepe
#18 Bacon roasted carrots
I have to go to the bottom of the second page to #19 to find the recipe. And it’s worse if you don’t know the exact name of the recipe or misspell it.
There has got to be a quick and easy way to find a specific recipe without wading through recipe compilations, Currently Crushing ons, or recipes that may share one ingredient but are completely different.
I so appreciate this place you’ve created…it’s my first stop every morning…and the tremendous work you put into making each day fresh, interesting and new. Thank you!!! xox
thanks so much sarah!! working on this now and i think we are solving this issue!! :)
You haven’t lived until you’ve been in the bathroom taking care of business and a Palmetto bug starts scurrying across the floor. NOPE! Those things are HUGE and it freaks me out. This is not at home but where we vacation several months out of the year. I understand — you definitely need a new car.
Hahaha, I live in S.C. and hate those bugs. I was sitting on the ground last week and my neighbor starts panicking. The thing was ::this close:: to crawling on me! Ack
For the recipe index, I am far more inclined to click on a recipe if there as a picture to go with it! Text links just don’t do it for me. Thanks!
GREENLEAF on Netflix … SOOO GOOD
Just finished DARK on Netflix and it is SOOO GOOD. I’m currently experiencing end of show hangover as well. Highlighly recommend.
If it’s not too late, I’d like to request an option to save name/email for making comments (or maybe a way to autofill?)
Hey! I really love it when the comment sections are divided up so that the “I’m just commenting – this looks so good” can be separated from the “I made this and have this feedback” (like on Smitten Kitchen). If I’m reading comments it’s usually because I want to make that recipe, and would love to be able to get right to the helpful ones, especially because I make SO many of your recipes! Thanks for considering!
