Kiwi Mango Salsa.

Last week I found myself with an undying desire for kiwi. I bought 4 when I was grocery shopping, and by morning was left with 2. I guess hungry, angry husband syndrome set in.
He must have really enjoyed the kiwi, because he came home Saturday afternoon with 3lbs of them. That equals out to approximately 24 fuzzy guys. But don’t take my word for it, because I’m really bad at math.
Each kiwi tasted better than the next – juicy, fresh and sweet. Is it kiwi season? Is there such a thing?
But what was I to do with all of them? Unlike my husband, I can’t eat things over and over and over again.
First idea that came to mind? Make a salsa with it. I love fruit salsa. I love any kind of salsa. I love anything I can dip a chip into. And yes, salsa is one of the only way I eat veggies. They are always edible when smothered on a salty chip.
Into the mix went kiwi, mango, orange bell pepper, red onion, cilantro, avocado and lime juice.
It’s easy for me to avoid nibbling while cooking when there are vegetables involved, since they are the last thing I want to nibble one.
So while making this, I nibbled on some chocolate instead. It all evens out.
We ate the salsa with both cinnamon sugar pita chips and tortilla chips.
They were equally delicious. We got a hint of salty and sweet in each bite. At least I did. My husband was too busy inhaling and snorting the salsa in an effort to quickly get it in his system. He certainly thought it was tasty.
The avocado added such a great, creamy touch. I must say that this was really the perfect blend of ingredients, with the tastes and textures meshing perfectly.
Kiwi Mango Salsa
2 kiwi’s, chopped
1/2 mango, chopped
1/2 orange bell pepper, chopped
1/4 red onion, chopped
1/2 avocado, chopped
1/8 cup chopped cilantro
a few squirts of lime juice
salt & pepper to taste
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve with cinnamon sugar pita chips and tortilla chips.
If you do one thing this week, make this salsa! It is totally worth spending the $800 on one mango and $1,250 on one avocado. At least that is about what they cost in my neck o’ the woods at the moment.
But then again, I’m really bad at math.

We always make mango salsa but I have never added kiwi. Genius idea!
I’ve been making pineapple salsa on the stovetop (more like a tomato-y Tostitos salsa than a chunky salsa), but I have to try it with kiwi and mango in it now, too! Thanks for the recipe!
OMG this would be SOOOO good on tilapia!! Or FSTG lime chips!
My hubby would love this! Me? NOt so much. Raw onion in anything makes my skin crawl. Im weird. ;)
Great pics!
Blessings-
Amanda
I’ve never made fruit salsa before…..but we are also on a kiwi kick in our house. My husband packs (I mean I pack) one in his lunch everyday:)
That looks great!
Looks delicious!!!
mmm! i can’t wait to devour this on saturday, i’ve always wanted to try avocado!
YUM! I love the sweet and salty combo!
Gorgeous gorgeous pics, once again. You rock, Jess! :)
This salsa would be super yum with some toasted pita…
Enjoy your Monday!!
How tropical! A good reminder of warm summer months during the freezing winter!
The colors of that meal are beautiful! I love it when something healthy actually looks great, too.
I’m normally not a salsa fan, but this one is very different. I would definitely try it. Thanks!
This looks awesome. So summery!! Makes me want warm weather, right now.
this looks like a great combo! i’m not the biggest fan of kiwi, but i can imagine that this tastes amazing, especially with the avocado!
I love love love mango salsa but have never thought to add kiwis – which I also love love love. Must try this – especially since it’s so cold outside – feel like it would be such a nice summer-y treat!
I love mango salsa, but I have never tried kiwi in it! So unique! I am sure it is delicious, can’t wait to try the combo!
*drool* this looks super super fresh & tasty. I HATE salsa that has tons of tomato chunks in it, so a tomato-less salsa that is both sweet & savory? Perfection! I bet this would taste absolutely amazing over fish too!!!!
now that is one salsa I would love to try. Kiwi is above all in my book. I love kiwi. I ate tons on my honeymoon at the breakfast buffet! I could live on kiwi alone and this salsa looks so wonderful.
Sounds so fruity and delicious. I’m considering making this for the ladies at my Super Bowl party this weekend. The guys can stick to chicken wings and guac, but the girls deserve something fun.
Kiwi salsa sounds delicious! I love the concept of combining sweet fruit with savory veggies like onions – it’s one of my favorite way to surprise the ol’ taste buds :)
This is definitely one of my favorite recipes you’ve posted- looks insanely delicious! I’m bookmarking it now and hopefully will get a chance to make it soon :)
You know I’ve never had any sort of salsa with fruit in it! My dad makes the typical new mexican salsa.. with tomatoes and tons of jalepenos! But I bet that kind would be a nice change!
Yummy! I love making sweet and savory combinations. I mean, any kind of salsa is a good salsa in my book! So long as it’s made with quality ingredients. That looks so colorful and tasty.
WOW- that is a pretty and yummy sounding salsa. Maybe perfect for superbowl???? I <3 kiwis (I even eat the fuzzz). Hope you have a great week pretty lady
Love Kiwis. I’ll have to get some soon. They remind me of summer since they are usually so juicy!
I’m a huge fan of kiwis. They are one of the fruits that brings a smile to my face every time I eat one. The salsa looks great!
I LOVE fruity salsa, so I am going to have to give this one a shot! My boyfriend hates fruity salsas so we have been known to each make our own batch before we plow through a bag of chips…
Oh man, I am suddenly craving this!! This would also be perfect with salmon or another kind of not-too-fishy-tasting fish. Yum!!
Would you believe that I actually hate kiwis?? But this would be awesome (minus the kiwis) over chicken or shimp! Yum!!
damn that looks tasty!
I love every single ingredient that went into that. It looks fantastic!
Wow, this recipe is a keeper!! What a good idea, I love how the mix sound in my mouth ;) !!
This salsa look so gorgeous! Sounds like a delicious combo of ingredients too. Perfect for spring and summer!
Yum! I always skimp on fruit intake – this would make up for it!!
Kiwi is one of my favorite fruits! That looks so fresh, yum!
This looks delicious and makes me want to go on vacation! I love the fruit and veggie combo. Munching on chocolate while cooking is the best- especially if you are making veggies!
Love the colors of this salsa! Served with cinnamon sugar pitas sounds like a great sweet treat! I hope I remember this recipe when summer roles around.
Thanks for the comment on our blog Jessica! It meant a lot ; ) This kiwi mango salsa looks so refreshing!! I will have to try it next time I get kiwi.
That salsa is beautiful! I’ve made a bangin black bean and mango salsa before.
Random question: how do you pick ripe avocados? The ones I buy always seem to be too firm. It’s so frustrating because crunchy avocado is NO BUENO!
I am not the best to ask since in Pittsburgh finding a good avocado is like finding a needle in a haystack. BUT – I do believe that color (they should be dark) and firm but give a bit. Anyone else want to chime in here?
Wow, Jessica..trust you to turn even salsa into something incredibly, impressive, and SWEET. Mmm…I just wanna crumble some stinky cheese in there, though….
Fruit salsa…brilliant!!!!
Perfect – that’s all I can say. I just got conned into throwing a baby shower at the end of this month, and I have had no idea what the heck to serve until now. This WILL make an appearance. I don’t even care if no one else likes it…I will. That’s all that matters, right??
Delicious! Kiwi has such a distinct taste. I bet the combination is heavenly.
I love fruit salsas, but your’s looks so unique!! Have you ever made sugar cinnamon tortilla chips? There’s a fruit salsa recipe I had a few years ago and those chips went so well with it. But your’s is a bit more savory with the avocado and onion, so they probably wouldn’t work. All of those flavors must be so awesome together!! Well done!! :)
oooh that looks awesome!!!!!!!! I have a big bag of plums at home that I have to make something with…….jam perhaps?!
I love peach and mango salsas, but I never would have thought of kiwi! Great idea!
I’ve never made a fruit salsa….but now I think I have to. That looks so refreshing! The perfect way to brighten up a cold, dreary Ohio winter.
Yummm! Looks delicious! I made mango black bean salsa last night and it was reeeally good!
That salsa looks like a great way to get some fruit and veggies in without even realizing it! I’d totally throw that on a tortilla and eat it like a sandwich :P
