July Favorites: Beauty.
I’m back, I’m back!
Right here in the heat of summer I’m sharing a bunch of my faves that don’t really seem to be so makeup-y. I’m still using mostly the same makeup routine that I was last month (bronzer, highlighter forever), if wearing any at all. It’s been super hot this month so it’s all sunscreen, concealer, brows, mascara.
I have a few hair favorites here and I’m still using my kenra blow dry spray along with the it’s a 10 spray once or twice a week. I also am still using the macadamia shampoo and deep repair masque – which I love oh so much.
On to the goods…
Essie Gel Couture nail polish. Oh my word, I am LOVING this polish! With the topcoat, it lasts for days and I constantly am doing things with my hands, having them in water, putting dishes away, doing things with Max etc. I also really like the shades I got. I have Make the Cut, Model Citizen and On the List. My mom just recently bought these too (we both told each other we had awesome new polish, but didn’t know we got the same thing!) and loves it.
Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops. HOLY COW. My dewy, highlight loving self is freaking over these. I know that the makeup world is going highlight crazy right now, but for me – I’ve always loved it. For years, I’ve wanted sparkle and glow since my skin is on the dryer side. These are so incredibly pretty. I’ve mixed them with my tinted moisturizer, bb creams and a foundation for a wedding.
Farmacy Deep Moisture Coconut Gel Mask. These are the best sheet masks I have ever used. They have spoiled me – I can’t find anything else that I love this much. Super moisturizing and soothing too. Love it. I’ve talked about them before but they are worth mentioning again.
Sol de Janiero Bum Bum Cream. First, the girls in sephora told me this is actually pronounced “boom boom,” not BUM. Ha. I’ve been looking at this on the sephora site all summer. I had no plans of buying into the hype because I think firming creams are a bunch of BS. But of course, when I was in sephora I opened the jar and smelled it and OH MY GOSH. It smells like heaven. I actually could not get over the scent and bought it just for that. It’s like summer +Â coconut + vanilla + something else that I have no idea – but not too strong or tropical. Plus, I use body cream every time I get out of the shower, so I knew it wouldn’t go to waste. Imagine my surprise after using it and realizing it sparkles!! Eeep! It’s not glittery, but has a slightly sparkle on the skin. LOVE. I haven’t noticed any firming, FYI.
Giorgio Armani Si. Okay, we all know that I have perfume ADD. Rollerballs rule my life. On a whim, I sprayed this on myself in sephora a few weeks ago and couldn’t stop thinking about it for a week. I bought the rollerball and it smells delicious! It’s slightly strong for summer, but I think it will be a nice summer to fall transition scent. This with the bum bum cream is my 2016 signature summer smell.
IGK Down and Out Dirty Spray. I sort of hate the name of this because I don’t want to think of my hair as being dirty, but this adds incredible texture and makes it piecey in all the right places. Also, the scent is fabulous!! If you can’t tell, I’m really on a summer scent bender this month.
Dove Dry Spray deodorant. Is that weird? Can I talk about deodorant here? This isn’t what I use every single day, but I absolutely LOVE it when it comes to wearing sleeveless dresses or shirts. We used this a bunch at my friends wedding earlier this month and it’s just so simple and quick and not a mess whatsoever. I always keep one on hand for things like that.
Captain Blankenship Mermaid Hair Oil. I’m a sucker and bought this for the name, but I was also out of my Macadamia Oil deep repair hair oil. Love the scent of this too. I just add a few drops to my hair after I shower while it’s still damp. It doesn’t seem to do anything extra special that other oils I’ve tried haven’t, but the packaging is adorable.
What are you guys loving right now?! I really want to try the new Hourglass foundation stick, but it’s pricey for me when I don’t even like to wear foundation. I also want the Essie neon nail colors. Did you get any beauty products at the nordstrom sale? I didn’t, but I would like to get some of the new Charlotte Tilbury lipsticks! I’m a sucker.
{as usual, none of this is sponsored and all of these products were purchased by me. i am not affiliated with any of the companies above, nor do i accept free products. just love to talk about what i like, makeup junkie to makeup junkie. there are a few amazon affiliate links above. thank you for being here!}

I’m not a big make-up wearer (or purchaser), but it’s fun to see what’s out there through your posts! I know you’ve worn the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind under eye concealer in the past, which is what my typical routine is. Have you found any other under eye concealers that you’ve liked? I’m looking to branch out but don’t know where to start… A comment or inclusion in a future post would be much appreciated!!
so funny, i actually had age rewind in here but forgot to add it in my pics so i deleted the paragraph. i still absolutely LOVE it. nothing works faster and it’s so moisturizing too. sometimes if i’m wearing a lot of makeup, like full face, i do want something with a little more coverage. i’ve always use MAC’s prolongwear concealer but it’s tricky in the winter because my skin is dry. right now i will use the urban decay naked skin concealer and i love that too. i wrote about it here: http://www.howsweeteats.com/2016/02/february-favorites-beauty-4/
Ahh glad I asked! I do love Instant Age Rewind for everyday wear, but I’m always curious if there are any new and improved products that would be good to test out. I’ll have to keep an eye out the other two to see how they work for me — thanks for the suggestions!
This has been my new favorite bronzer/highlighter-in-one: http://www.ulta.com/pure-radiance-all-over-face-color?productId=prod2138917&sku=2138917&categoryId=cat80028 Pure Radiance from bareMinerals. I think I’ll use it year-round, as it adds the PERFECT amount of shine and it does a wonderful job of smoothing the appearance of my skin’s texture and color. Love love love. Definitely give it a try! (Also, as you can imagine…a little goes a LONG way so try a fine dusting your first time!)
okay so while i am always so tempted to try that – i can’t take the loose powder! i feel like it always gets EVERYWHERE for me!! it’s like the main reason i avoid bare minerals now. is there a secret?!
Jessica, what’s the best hair mask or treatment you’ve used? I used to lighten my hair until it just got too frail and started snapping off :( I cut off four inches but it’s still quite weak, so I really want something to give it as much care as possible!
i use the macadamia oil deep repair masque and it’s fabulous!
I am curious how the Essie gel polishes affect the nail. will it leave the nail weak like they say the salon gel polishes do? I know so many people are loving this new product! I am still using my old favorite dior products but I found a really old nars lipstick in my makeup case and I am in love with the color all over again! (dolce vita).
i don’t think they have! i was concerned about that too. but my nails seem okay.
I love my custom enhancer drops in my highlight shade, but you MUST try one of the bronzer shades. I am a huge liquid and cream bronzer fan and the bronzer drops are by far my favorite I have tried. They trump my Giorgio Armani Liquid Summer, which is saying something. A must try!
ohhhh don’t you worry i got a bronzer shade too. because i’m a marketer’s dream.
Finally caved on the Macadamia hair mask today. My hair is a frizzy mess with this lovely humidity and I got an Amazon giftcard from work so free money makes purchases easier ;)
i hope you love it!
Omg! That bum bum cream is a dream! I love the way it smells too!
right?! it smells like heaven!
Spray deodorant is like my secret fave beauty product that I tell everyone about, and Dove makes the best smelling ones – the cucumber one, omg so good, I legit wear it every day (to me it’s so much easier than regular deo!)
Cannot wait to go stock up (like I do after every one of your beauty faves lol) on new items I don’t have – like bum bum cream lol!
it really is so much easier.
Nordstrom sale was great! MAC Look in a Box in Girl Band Glam-the purple one-is adorable, despite the kitschy name. My sister and I split the cost for a couple gift sets too(the NARS Survival one and a Deborah Lippman nail lacquer one), and everything arrived well and has worked so far–NARS Audacious mascara is pretty great, in particular.
oh no maybe i need to grab some of these!
I’m also loving the Dove Dry Spray Deodorant. Not my everyday, only when wearing halter/ sleeveless dresses, tops, bathing suit, etc. I’m obsessed with it and to me it feels refreshing every time I apply it. Becca’s are my go-to highlighters. Love them!
yes totally agree! it’s so great for summer and anything sleeveless.
Have you tried any Glossier products: https://www.glossier.com/? Just bought the Glossier lipstick _Generation G in Crush, easy applicator and great color.
Love Dove Dry Spray, I use it everyday!
i haven’t! but i need to. :)
You HAVE to try the Haloscope highlighter when it comes back in stock: http://bff.glossier.com/d-RnC (<– That link has a built-in 20% off code, FYI!) I think you'd love it. I have the Quartz one and I'm obsessed! Also the Cherry Balm Dot Com smells like middle school. In a good way. ;)
I am currently loving Wella Reflection oil. Not greasy at all. I use a small drop on dry hair to smooth or on slightly damp hair in the morning before blow drying and it leaves my hair super shiny but not greasy. Smells divine. http://www.wella.com/professional/en-US/product/care/oil-reflections
I liked in so much I bought this balm spray to replace my empty It’s a 10. Applied to damp hair after washing and it works just as well as It’s a 10, but smells so much better. http://www.wella.com/professional/en-US/product/care/enrich-moisturizing-leave-in-balm-spray.
This Klorane shampoo smells delicious. I don’t know if it does anything spectacular for my hair, but I bought a full size bottle because it makes me feel like I’m on a tropical island. http://www.kloraneusa.com/hair-care/hair-type/dry-hair
Finally, I have found nothing better to use when shaving my legs than L’Occitane Almond Shower Oil. If it wasn’t a tad pricey I would use it all the time for the whole body!
i love that almond shower oil, i need to try! thanks for these recs karen!
I literally just added the Wella Moisturizing Leave In Spray Balm to my shopping cart – love these posts and all of the product recs everyone else shares as well! My hair is so damaged right now from our terrible well water (so much so that when I color it it takes on so much BLACK!) that I need all of the moisture I can get to nurse it back to health!
Why is texturing spray always so pricey?! Anyone have a good, budget friendly alternative?
i know, it really is always so expensive. have you tried using a dry shampoo for some texture? batiste is my favorite and it’s under $10!
Garnier Fructis Texture Tease is the best and its like $4 at target. I’ve tried so many texturizing sprays, and I always go back to this one because you just can’t beat the price.
The brush on the  Essie Gel Couture polishes make them totally worth it for me! Such a better application! I am loving OPI Bubble Bath polish for the perfect light pink. And Tarte’s Lippie Lingerie is pretty amazing!!Â
Ps. These are some of my favorite posts!
you are absolutely right – the brush is PERFECT!!
I’m in love with the entire DrunkElephant brand!!! Highly recommend the luxury face oil, the pekee bar and the juju bar. My face looks amazing!!
I bought the UD Moondust palette a couple weeks ago, even though I also recently bought the spectrum palette…. because you know, why wouldn’t I need 20 eyeshadow palettes? It has significantly better pigmentation than the old ones I have and are seriously sparkly. Sparkle is age appropriate for always, so that’s how I justified that!
Thanks for your opinion on the enhancing drops, I’ve been thinking about them for a while!
Have you gotten any Vice lipsticks?
Jessica, I read and enjoy these posts every month but rarely venture outside my usual brands, to which I’m generally loyal. But after reading your description of the Bum Bum Cream, I asked my mom to babysit and got my ass to Sephora today (haven’t been in there in like 5 years) and bought it, along with Sol de Janeiro’s Foot Fetish Cream, because it was right next to it and I couldn’t resist, and jeezus, you were so right. That smell is heaven on earth. They seriously need to make body spray, room fresheners, EVERYTHING with that scent. Thanks for the awesome reco!
i love these posts ! i’ve been trying and failing on a few things this month. tried 2 different vitamin c serums (drunk elephant and ole hendrikson) and both are a no go. why do i not leave well enough alone ? my skin was good but i wanted to make it BETTER so why not add a pricey vitamin c serum that breaks me out ? DUH. So back to sephora they go. im also looking for some new cream easy to use shadow for every day for my eyes. tried laura mercier but just wasnt a fan. i like the benefit one but it dries out so quick. As for what im loving mostly its that i cut my hair off ! i had almost no remorse and dont miss it. i had a ton cut off. its so healthy and so much cooler, especially when sleeping. it was so nice to cut off all the dead over bleached length ! ive been using bumble and bumble hair oil and liking that. i’ve been wearing cayenne bite lipstick and liking it. my urban decay clear lipliner is a lifesaver to stop it from feathering outside the lips ! i was also loving body shop strawberry moisturizer tub. smells good and leaves my legs nicely moisturized. i am realizing bath and body works lotion just isnt cutting it lately on the moisture end. its nice and non sticky but just not enough. i feel like their quality is not as good as it was ? anyone else ?
I love Si too. I wore it most of last summer, and now it’s a summer fragrance for me.
I so badly want to get my hands on the Cover Fx drops but I’m still accepting the price tag!!
I really can’t stop using ColourPop metallic shadows – have you tried them yet? I thought they were all hype for the LONGEST time, but they are NOT. Been having a love affair with them for over a year now, and the metallics are just incredible.
I love these posts. I’m a serious beauty junky! I’m loving my Tarte Exposed Highlighter, Sephora Collection Fiji bronzer and Bobbi Brown pale pink blush. Tarte Tartiest mascara is rocking my eyelashes world, too. A few coats and it looks like I have millions of lashes! I also mix Becca Opal liquid highlighter in with my moisturizer. It is glowy skin perfection!

Just bought Charlotte Tillbury mascara and Penelope lipstick. Â The mascara really makes lashes long and lipstick lasts for quite some time.
I bought quite a few of her products during the Nordstrom sale, also bought Wonderglow.
