Tuesday Things.
1. I’ve seriously been considering doing the whole online grocery order + pick up option, but I weirdly ENJOY goig to the grocery store. Max loves going too. But I do dread the large grocery shops I do for big recipe development days. However, I’m also super picky about fresh herbs and lettuce that I pick. How do I know that I’m going to get the best ones?!
2. LOVE these 5 ingredient energy balls. I’ve made a ton before but never with these ingredients!
3. Since I have no life and am the most boring (read: basic too) person on the planet, let’s discuss Target self checkout. I looooathe Target self checkout. I do not go to Target so I can check myself out. I want the full blown #momlife experience. I use self-checkout at my own grocery store, but at Target? No. They forced me to use it last week and I want to boycott the store.
4. Also, all these new brands coming to Target! I’m excited. Guess the boycott won’t last.
5. Pretty sure that my tomato plants have strangled my jalapeño peppers. They are out of CONTROL.
6. I haven’t been watching any TV this week (I KNOW) so I started rewatching The Affair. And I also rewatched some old True Blood episodes after hearing that Nelsan Ellis who played Lafayette died. So sad, I loved him! I’m also debating watching The Handmaid’s Tale but am terrified and afraid it will give me nightmares. I am a child.
7. The best beach towns for food lovers! I love this post – and we’re still planning on heading somewhere next month for a little trip!
8. I mentioned this in my vacation post, but I’m reallllly not into sweets at the moment and do you know how bad it is? I got ice cream four different times on vacation because everyone else was getting it and I wanted to want it… and ended up tossing each one after a few bites. SO WEIRD.
9. Are you going crazy today for amazon prime day?! I’ve always found it to be a pretty big letdown in the past, but I secretly want to get an amazon echo and these packing cubes. AND!!! You guys can get a copy of Seriously Delish for under $14!! However, my heart is obviously with the Nordstrom anniversary sale that starts later this week. I CAN’T WAIT.

you should get the packing cubes because they changed my life.
also, Asbury Park, NJ is turning into a little foodie beach town. I know the Jersey shore was a thing for you. Asbury might be a bit north from where you’re used to. If you are in the area, let me know, and I can give you some recommendations
i’ve heard that about the packing cubes! i can’t wait to use them.
i had to repot my tomato plants. they were killing my peppers but since i did the peppers are now reviving! tomato plants are no joke!
they are monsters.
I tried to watch the hand maidens tale and it couldn’t even get through the first episode. it was so depressing and scary.
the amazon echo is nice. we got one for Christmas and it do end up using it quite often, especially with baby around… echo – tell me the weather, echo- play the news, echo- play baby lullaby music, etc.
i didn’t end up getting one, and now i’m sort of regretting it!
My boyfriend LOVES self checkout. Like you, Â I loathe it. One time I went to Target with him and reluctantly agreed to go through self checkout. Apparently you couldn’t use the Cartwheel app at self checkout, so one of the workers had to come over and add discounts to each individual item. So self checkout turned out to take twice as long as if we went through a regular checkout line. Never again!!
Handmaid’s Tale was so good, but it did actually give me nightmares.
omg i had this EXACT same issue at target when they made me use it. i swear that i had to have someone come help me 4 times, and i’m normally proficient at self checkout since i always use it at the grocery store! it’s a nightmare!!!
Grocery pickup has seriously changed my life (yes, very dramatic, but oh so true!!). Sometimes I think it would have been to get the produce myself, but overall, I’ve had pretty good luck! Now, I can’t imagine not being able to do pickup — game changer in so many ways!!
Those energy balls look amazing — going to have to try those!
And every summer your Michigan pictures make me want to go there for my next vacation!!! Have a great week!
i’m going to give it a try!! thanks jessica!
I despise Target self checkout. No, I don’t want to scan 30 cans of cat food myself. And why is it now that there’s only one (maybe two, if you’re lucky) regular lanes open?
yesssss. it’s the WORST.
I loooooathe self-checkout. It makes me so angry!
I hate going to the grocery store, actually, so I’d love to do without it, but I also don’t trust that they’ll pick the best produce for me, and I’m super duper picky about it! I inspect everything really thoroughly!
Watch Mr. Robot on Amazon Prime. It’s incredible and so addicting!
agree, i’m so afraid the things they pick won’t be great and i’ll have to go again anyway!
GLOW on Netflix is such a good show. Set in the 80s about regular women (sort of) becoming wrestlers. It’s a weird premise but works so well. Alison Brie is phenomenal, as is Marc Maron.
Second this! I loved GLOW and want to watch it again!
GLOW is so, so, so, so good.
i have heard that it is AMAZING! i will check it out next!
Hey there – I started using grocery delivery this year. Why? Because I can’t stand having the weekly food shop hang over me all weekend. I made a conscious decision to get rid of or delegate the few items I abhor in my day-to-day life. It was such a marathon to get 3 kids in/out of the car, and I always forgetting items in the rush. (I refuse to do a hated task during nap time on weekends – nap/quiet time is reserved on the weekend for doing something I like). Would I prefer to pick things out myself, yes, probably. But I’ve found it much more efficient to do online. I’ve only had two bad produce selections in countless grocery drop-offs. I bet you’ve picked some bad produce in your day, too. If possible, in nicer months, use a CSA or farmer’s market for produce – now that’s something I love doing with my kids – not that I allocate time for that on weekends, either. . .
OR – find some other task you dislike, and get rid of/delegate that, and keep the weekly grocery trip.
good tips!! thanks!
On a separate topic: why are the packing cubes better than various sized ziploc bags? We are now a family of 5 going on 6, and we still use a single large suitcase for all of us. I use 1 extra-large ziploc/hefty bag for each person’s clothing. How do the cubes improve on this? Just curious.
i actually haven’t even heard of the ziploc bag idea! that’s a good call too – i think the packing cubes do something similar and just compress everything/allow for more room. also amazing you can do that for such a big family – i can’t even get ALL of my stuff in one large suitcase says this chronic overpacker!
I’m with you on the online ordering, I did it once and I was not thrilled with the apples they pick. I like being able to pick my own. But, totally love target (or anywhere) self check out! I will walk to the other side of the registers to use it. I love not having to wait on a slow cashier in my always-in-a-rush life.Â
hahahahaha!
GAH! I am thinking about the Echo too!! I don’t really need it….but I want it. The struggle is real! I really just want the grocery list feature, tbh.Â
i didn’t bite the bullet!
I love Target’s self checkout for small to medium sized trips. Won’t do it if I’m buying a ton because I’m not motivated to scan everything myself, and I’ll run out of room on the small shelf and then the weight sensor will freak out when I try to start putting stuff in my cart to make more room. Also won’t do it if I’m buying any loose produce, but otherwise, that’s where I’m going every other time. No waiting in line, no awkward conversations with the cashiers..yessss!
yessss the self checkouts are super small in my target!
Those packing cubes are genius!
i know, right?!
I absolutely love grocery pickup. I stick to my list even when hungry and I haven’t had any bad produce except for some unripe avocados that I had to wait for instead of use the same day. Love it!
Handmaid’s tale was good but gave me nightmares – like watching with one eye closed to not see what’s happening but to see what is happening. And Alexis Bledel is not Rory which is always hard for me as Gilmore Girls for life.
i think i’m waaaay too afraid to watch.
Have you read The Handmaid’s Tale? If not, it’s a pretty quick read and I’m really glad I read it before watching. It will fill in some holes and lessen the shock value if you’re worried about nightmares 🙈 But I highly recommend it regardless!Â
i haven’t, but maybe i will go that route before watching!

I would highly suggest NOT watching the handmade’s tale, especially with pregnancy hormones. I read the book years ago and it still haunts me. Try some sappy Hallmark movies.
hahahaha i understand this fully.
I’m not sure if you’re a Maine kinda person… but the Kinnebunkport/Ogunquit/Wells area is AMAZING in the summer time! So fun for kiddos too and great for pictures. Not to mention, the seafood (*cough* lobster *cough*) is the freshest around. Thanks for your posts!
i am DYING to go to maine. really trying to convince eddie that is where we should go!
It’s worth it! You can fly into Boston then drive an hour and a half up the coast. Although, I’d suggest an August trip… the ocean doesn’t “warm up” until then! Great shopping outlets in Kittery, ME as well. COME ON EDDIE!!
Packing cubes are amazing! Great for packing a family. Everyone gets one or two cubes. Little kid clothes easily fit into one. And they compress! You’d be amazed how much I can fit into one cube. Though I always need two for me. These are the ones we use. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0092X0R40?psc=1 We have the large in different colors. I need to get more in other sizes. But these are good quality and the zippers are sturdy. When we get to our destination, I just throw a cube into a drawer for each person. When we get home, easy to unpack. Love them!
Grocery delivery…thinking about that myself this very week, but I am too much of a control freak to give up the fresh produce buys to someone else.
Ramona – we have always used one giant ziploc/hefty bag per person (we are a family of 5, soon to be 6). I find it compresses down really well. Do you think the cubes work much better? If they are significantly better, I’d consider getting them. Thanks!
AGS- I imagine it is similar. The difference might be that the clothes are easier to pack and unpack when you completely unzip and open the cube. I don’t have to slide the clothes into a bag, as you would with a ziploc, I just put the clothes piles on the bottom half of the cube, flip the top over and zip them up. And they have handles, so they’re easy to pick up and move around. They also might compress better because you’re zipping a top down to a bottom. I don’t know if those things are significant enough for you to buy them, but I really love them. (Oh, and the link I shared isn’t sponsored or anything, I just wanted to share cubes that work really well for me :)
My cucumbers went bonkers and strangled out my zucchini. :( That is kind of a weird sentence.
Im eh on the online grocery. i dont want substitutions and i like to pick my own meat and produce i think. also how else would i obsessively read labels for far to long ?
packing cubes for me have been ok. not life changing but helpful.
i like Alexa. mostly for music, timers, weather, traffic.
I can’t believe the article about best beach towns left off Charleston, South Carolina! Â Travel and Leisure magazine just voted it the number one city in the US for the fourth year in a row!!!
You should come visit the place I call home!  While it might be hot next month,  there are amazing shops and restaurants in my beautiful city.  If you decide to come down, let me know and I will give you a list of places you need to eat!! 😘
Watch The Handmaids Tale – it’s amazing and you will love it ! Promise !
target….new products. Â I’m in love. Â My daughter has tried the new Cat and something brand – she got leggings…much better than the normal brand that didn’t last at all. Â love love love
