Tiramisu French Toast.
I have very important news.
I bought some bread. It was not whole wheat. It was delicious. And fluffy. Soft and pillow-like too.
Then I invested in some cheese. Not just any kind of cheese. Mascarpone cheese. Which I can never spell. Or say.
And for the shocking finale, I picked up some butter. Sweet cream butter.
Butter.
It’s what I walked into the kitchen some 20 years ago and found my brother eating, fingerful by fingerful, perched on the kitchen table.
True story.
It’s what I live and breathe by.
[I say that like you haven’t noticed. ]
And it’s also what this French toast took a bath in last week.
Now that is a bath I’d like to have.
You probably weren’t expecting such a decadent breakfast on a Monday morning. You probably weren’t expecting to have to change your breakfast plans rightthisminute and make a pit stop at the store so you could make this morning treat. Today. Today, I tell you. It is a must.
It’s just your basic build-it-yourself French toast. It’s easy. No rules. No fancy stuff. Soak, fry, spread, fork. In that order.
No excuses.
Tiramisu French Toast
Ingredients
- 1 loaf challah bread
- 8 whole eggs
- 1/4 cup cream
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup mascarpone cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon instant coffee powder
- 1/2 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1/2 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 4 tablespoons butter
- maple syrup for serving
- sliced strawberries for serving
Instructions
- Sliced one loaf of challah bread into 1-inch thick slices. In a large baking dish, combine eggs, cream, vanilla extract, sugar, cinnamon and 1/2 tablespoon instant coffee powder and whisk together. Lay bread in dish and let soak in the egg mixture for about 30 seconds each side.
- Heat a skillet on medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. Add french toast and fry until golden brown. Flip (adding more butter if needed, use your judgement) and fry on other side. Repeat with remaining slices of bread and tablespoons of butter.
- Mix mascarpone cheese with honey and remaining coffee powder and spread on french toast slices while warm. Sprinkle with cocoa powder and serve with syrup and strawberries.

I appreciate you so much!
I have an inkling that tonight Mr. How Sweet is going to sit down and attempt to educate me on why cheese is not an investment. I will not listen. Nor will I agree.

Challah bread is AMAZING!!! Growing up in a Jewish household we had it on hand all the time! It makes the best french toast in my opinion! :)
Well, dinner plans scratched for tonight. New plans include tiramisu French toast. It’s what’s for dinner.
fun! I love this idea!
YUMMO. I made Apple Bread Pudding with Challah bread this past weekend and it took the bread to a whole new level. That bread is SO moist and sweet and delicious and PERFECT for any sweet bready treat!
That sounds amazing. Recipe??
Recipe will be up on Wednesday! Check it out. I am sure that you could rework it into a whole new masterpiece. Actually…I really hope you do.
Great!
OH YUM. Great idea – marscapone cheese is one of the best things in the world.
I LOVE THIS IDEA! My mother is going to love it!
Wow. What a treat this would be. And I was going to make quinoa pancakes today…hmm, what to do!?! ;)
I think that’s an easy answer. ;)
You have got to be kidding me! I think I’ll have this for dinner tonight. And maybe breakfast tomorrow. And lunch tomorrow. :D

I love how you caught your brother eating butter by the fingerful. I LOLed because I found my sister doing pretty much the same thing. She was licking a stick of butter while watching cartoons in front of the TV. LOL!
LOL! What is up with that?
Are your siblings related to Paula Deen?! ;)
I’ve never tried this but maybe I need to, there’s a first time for everything, right?! LOL
Hahah!
Haha! Definitely not related to Paula Deen. I live in Pittsburgh too, so nowhere even close.
After I posted my comment I reminded my sister of that interesting Saturday morning years ago. She then reminded me of the time I ate the shell of an Easter egg because I thought it was candy (my parents have it on video). In my defense, I was 3 years old.
Ah-mazing!!!!
I’ll have to try this….when I have nothing to do that day because this is a food coma waiting to happen. Looks amazing!
Holy heck this sounds rediculously good. I was already dreaming about making french toast this morning with Jenna’s pb bread and now I think I most definitely have to make some F.T….. WOW. This is seriously making my mouth water. Great idea Jessica!!
awesoem, brilliant idea gorgoeus!
Mmm this French toast looks fabulous! I’m going to make this for the boyfriend this weekend – tiramisu is his favorite dessert, and he always asks me to make French toast when we have brunch together! :)
i love french toast variations, hope to try this one this weekend!
This looks amazing! I love anything tiramisu related! I think the only way to make this any better would to add kahlua to the egg mixture…I may have to make this this weekend!!
Looks fantastic! I love challah and brioche, so this is right up my alley. Sure, whole wheat is great is sandwiches and when I’m feeling like being healthy but otherwise I love the fluffiness of challah and brioche, especially for french toast and bread pudding.
I was just beginning my search for a stuffed french toast type recipe to serve for brunch at the beach. My search is over before it even started. Thanks! This looks incredible!
Holy butter batman!
Looks amazing. I’m totally making this for company we’re having this weekend. Yum yum yum!
Are you kidding me? Tiramisu for breakfast? Count me in! :-)
How do you come up with these ideas, Jessica? You are amazingly creative! :-)
I loooove mascarpone cheese. This looks fantastic!
My tummy just gave a giant, loud grumble. Wishing I was eating this for lunch today :)
Oh good Lord.
Wow! Can you come cook breakie for me on Mondays?!! This looks so decadent; I’ve bookmarked it so I can wow my parents next time they come for a visit.
WOW! I can’t even tell you how angry I get for not being able to eat your breakfasts like this! They kill me over here staring at me…..laughing and I can’t eat it..
Happy Monday!
xxoo
I have yet to try mascarpone cheese – though every recipe I see with it looks beyond drool worthy – this looks INCREDIBLE and so decadant!! Thanks for the link to the fundraiser – I entered for a chance at those amazing brownies! :)
Thank YOU!
THAT LOOKS AMAZING….I have yet to try challah bread! where do you usually get them Jess? :) And omgshhh mascarpone is sooo good! so far, for breakfast i’ve only tried them on pancakes.
Just at my local grocery store! :)
This is the best idea ever!! Love this.
Where do you come up with these amazing ideas?? This toast looks amazing. I too can never spell mascarpone(??), but I love the flavor, and I bet it was totally rocking on the french toast. Yum yum.
Drool-tastic.
OMG, this post is making my mouth water! I love tiramisu, and this reminds me of it…yum yum yum! You are a genius!
I’ve never wanted to eat my screen more than I do right now.
One day you must make Tiramisu. Just plain regular delicious tiramisu and share it with the rest of us.

So I’ll be over tomorrow morning for some of this French toast. I’d like extra toppings on mine.
You know that when I buy/see butter I think of this blog?
I love that.
I’ll be waiting for you. :)
What would suggest as a substitute for the challah bread? I’m pretty sure my local grocery store won’t have it.
I think any bread would work fine! Texas Toast maybe? Or just a full loaf of something you enjoy, and slice it as thick as you’d like!
This looks ah-mazing!!!!!!
Hmm..where’s the cognac or brandy? ;-)
That looks heavenly by the way and I’m not even a huge tiramisu fan.
Wow! What a decadent breakfast!
Oh my word!!! I love tiramisu but in french toast form?! I’m in love. :)
What an incredible blog! Just had to become an email subscriber. That French toast looks AWESOME!
I, too, use Challah Bread and let it soak up a sweet egg mixture. It’s only the best way to make it! And, mascarpone cheese to top it off…AH, it is simply heaven.
Definitely will be checking back here…

Coffee and breakfast food? That’s a perfect breakfast marriage!
Holy tiramisu! No way am I going another day without making this. How did I live before tiramisu french toast?
I wish I had some of this for breakfast this morning! That’s okay, I’ll make my husband make it for me tomorrow morning…if I can get him out of bed…
OMGOODNESS i could eat that every morning for the next year!
This sounds amazing! nom nom nom
Challah bread makes the BEST french toast. I had it at a restaurant for brunch this weekend. It was good..but looks like it can’t compare to yours!!
