Tuesday Things.
1. Okay sooooo…. the dark chocolate bourbon cherry soda float had dark chocolate ice cream, bourbon and cherry soda. Basically, I wanted to swim in it.
2. True story: I could spent the rest of my life sitting in the same spot while someone massages or scratches my back. I wish I could hire a 24/7 masseuse slash back scratcher. My husband hates me. So do his prematurely arthritic hands.
3. My addiction to magazines is out of control. It’s a sickness, really. If you don’t believe, come over and see the 18 magazines sprawled throughout my living room at the moment. If only it was an exaggeration.
4. Neon… can’t stop, won’t stop. I will never quit you. I want my wardrobe to look like Barbie barfed all over it. I don’t care what anyone thinks.
4.5 Except I sort of care what everyone thinks, because I’m a super cliched, stereotypical, first-born girl in her 20s who suffers from major oldest child syndrome and needs constant reassurance. Just not when it comes to neon.
5. Let’s have our weekly Girls discussion! I personally thought the episode – in all of it’s outrageously uncomfortableness and awkwardness – was incredible. Probably my favorite so far. I just can’t help but stare at the TV with my eyes half-covered saying WHAT.
6. Unfortunately, 76% of my current vernacular is consisting only of quotes from Girls. I’m sure you can imagine how everyone that is not a 20-something female in a five mile radius of me feels when I open my mouth.
7. Things in my purse, junk and messiness edition.
That’s one out of about sixty-seven billion receipts that calls my purse home.
8. Um, so you know how I always talk about my obsession with Grape Nuts? Turns out, you can MAKE YOUR OWN. Seriously. What.the.heck.
9. I have developed a fascination with walking. My dad and grandpa have always been big walkers – walking in the morning, taking a stroll at lunch, maybe another after dinner… and now I’m hooked. It’s so relaxing. I just like to go outside each afternoon and walk in the sun and sing old people songs on my iPod while people look at me funny. But I’m pretty sure this will get old once the temps start hitting 90.
10. My weekend consisted of about 25 hours of work, 8 hours of Pinterest, 2 hours of cake baking and phone-dropping in frosting and 1 hour of shoe shopping since I refuse to stop wearing this one pair of wedges that have been falling apart for 3 years. This picture says a thousand words.
I’m just not sure what words.
11. I don’t have the space for a garden but I really want to grow some herbs and maybe tomatoes and possibly some gross green veggies to up my chances of consuming them. Can someone point me in the direction of how I could do this in pots? It’s so overwhelming for me. It’s like doing crafts.
12. Now please talk me into making dinner. Because as of right now a milkshake is looking pretty good.

I say go with a milkshake for dinner!
I noticed you have nutmeg in your purse. Emergencies?
I totally know what you mean about the back scratching or rubbing. My boyfriend doesn’t want to injure me and therefore won’t scratch my back but I just tell him to go for it…dig those nails in!
I can relate to #4 and #4.5 :). I love Victoria’s Secret’s neon t-shirts!
If you search pinterest for container vegetable garden… Well, you’ll get like, 10832 results.

Check out Earthbox! It’s (relatively) idiot-proof. I have one to supplement my small garden :-).

You can grow a pallet garden. There are directions here: lifeonthebalcony.com/how-to-turn-a-pallet-into-a-garden/ and if you want to grow tomatoes you just need some big pots for your porch. Herbs can be grown in little kitchen friendly pots, but I fancy this idea: http://www.notjustahousewife.net/2011/08/mason-jar-wall-planter.html
I like neon too but I am not smooth enough to pull it off. It just looks silly on puffy people. Also, as far as the shoes go… I have 2 pair of doc Marten’s that are roughly 12 years old and I refuse to stop wearing them.
I think we are long lost internet sisters because we like way too many of the same things. Being the recipient of back scratching is THE BEST. I frequently say to my bf that there should be people you can hire, like masseuses, who scratch your back for 90 minutes. I also just saw a recipe recently for making your own Grape Nuts, but I’m not convinced they will come out the same until I hear it from you. I just don’t think it’s possible to re-create the insanely hard, crunchy texture that could take the paint off a car. But anyway… until next week’s Crumbs…
Many home improvemnt stores such as Lowes or Home Depot sell what they patio tomoatoes. They are already in pots and have cages for support. A few months back I started my own “pot” garden. Tomatoes and peppers mainly. I suggest purchasing heirloom veggie plants or organic seeds depending on how you want to start. Most plants or seed packets will tell you how big the plant will get just make sure you get a pot that will allow the plant to flourish. Also, make sure only use soil for pots. Again I recommend buying orgnaic soil. If you put soil in a pot that is for in ground use it gets hard and the roots will have a more difficult time developing and this could kill the plant. Then just make sure to water. :) Also, I use Neem insecticide soap. It’s the most orgnaic option I have found and it works really well. I do live in SC though so lots of heat and lots of bugs. You may not need to use that or anything. Good luck!
Um, seriously, me and you could be separated at birth with the first child syndrome with an obsession for neon. I’m actually wearing a shirt almost that color at work today. Funny story, when I was in a sorority in college we had a rush style chair. She would tell people when their outfits weren’t appropriate for rush. I had these fabulous neon blue shoes that went perfectly with this cute outfit of white pants and a blue top and she told me to change my shoes. What she obviously didn’t realize is that I was about 9 years ahead of fashion, the trend probably got set because of me! ;-) Ha!
So I see that i have been beaten to the punch on the pallet garden thing, but here is another link to a different option that still allows you to use pots if you like. http://kellymoorebag.com/blog/?p=9387
Also…homemade grape nuts…you seriously just rocked my world, as you usually do with your amazing recipes. [Cue the brown sugar cupcakes with peanut butter brown sugar frosting that I made for my mother and lasted a whopping 12 seconds!]
And neon will always rule…I love it and will rock it with you. I firmly believe banana clips will soon follow.
I always love the idea of gardening but then I hate the dirt and upkeep. Maybe someone can make and maintain a garden for me :)
Gayla Trail is a super hip and awesome gardening guru. You can check out her website http://www.yougrowgirl.com/ for lots of awesome tips. I read the book by the same name and it really helped my sad gardening life.
Glad I’m not the only one obsessed with magazines. Do you insist on keeping them all too, like I do? I finally had to break down and get rid of most of them since our two-bedroom apartment isn’t that big. Now I bring them to the BioLife Center where I donate plasma. Feels better than throwing them away :)
Try this for growing herbs indoors – easy and fast growing! No dirt or pots required!

Starting a potted herb garden is as easy as buying the pots, herbs, and dirt. Think about what you use most – rosemary, basil, thyme, cilantro – and that’s what you plant. I’ve done it every summer for a couple of years and really love being able to go out onto the deck and cut fresh herbs to use. I like to buy the ones that have already been started rather than seeds – you feel accomplished just for putting them in dirt. Get a few pots, some good potting soil, and go to work! Last year I did 2 cherry tomato plants (in the same pot with 1 cage) and loved it. I planted a couple of peppers this year to try. I don’t have a yard so have all of them just on my deck.
The key is water. You just have to remember to keep them watered, especially once it gets hot. And if they’re going to be in dead sun all summer, you might want some shade – I keep the deck umbrella up a lot through July/August to give them some relief.
Good luck! Happy planting!

Nothing wrong with a milkshake for dinner!
We built a “salad table” for our garden, and it’s working out great so far, adn was super easy to build. It fits on the balcony of our apartment. Here are the directions:

Once I had a measuring cup in my purse. I know weird huh. But it came in handy. My daughter needed a M item for show and tell (which I forgot again). I whip out the measuring cup, everyone laughs, she dies of embarrassment. I look for another item, I find a Mickey Mouse bracelet, she is saved from embarrassment and I received the necessary motivation to clean out my purse. Currently though it looks like a bag lady shopping cart. Oh well.
I want to do a garden too and also don’t have space (okay, a balcony) but resolved to do it anyway. The boyf said “okay, we’ll add it to your list of ‘projects'” but I insisted that in this case, I really was going to start a garden. And then I bought seeds from amazon (seeds!!!!) which, unbeknownst to me, is really NOT the way to start if you’re a novice. Woops.
Have u seen my blog? Seriously! Love Girls. My husband is sucked in now. It’s truly the bomb. What r ur fav mags? Mid month I have a serious stack to go through. I have a system. Neon is bad. Can’t support that one Chica. Love the bacon beer post! Thanks for Tuesday Things! One of the highlights of my week!
Thanks to also spending two hours a day browsing Pinterest…I found this link: http://www.marthastewart.com/272422/tower-of-herbs?czone=home%2Fdecorating-outdoor-living%2Fprep-and-care It’s a herb tower!
I’m all about the milkshake too!!! In fact, I’ve got bananas freezing as we speak! A dark chocolate banana milkshake perhaps?
I just watched girls on my boyfriend’s On demand, (he has hbo, I don’t), and what was supposed to be a productive morning turned into a Girls marathon. I LOVE IT!!!!!!! Thank you for the new tv addiction….
For the past several years, I have used a large strawberry pot (the pot with the regular opening in the top but it also has little side openings that jut out) for my herb garden. It doesn’t take up much space at all. In the top I have rosemary and on the sides I have tarragon, basil, sage, oregano, chives, and parsley. I love having it outside my door where I can just go snip off what I need as the mood strikes! I have 2 other large pots for my tomatoes and peppers and a small pot for fresh mint. I recommend using 1/2 potting soil and 1/2 organic humus, as potting soil lacks nutrients. Let me know if you find that professional back scratcher! The hubby tired of that job years ago.
Tower Garden. For real. I don’t have one because my husband has gone all farmer-John since we moved to “the country” and has planted a garden, but a friend of mine has one and it’s amazing.

4.5: You just summed up all my problems.
9: Walking is totally underrated. My dog takes me on a walk three times a day and I love it.
11: I grow rosemary, lavender and mint in pots. Those are really hardy herbs. Pots dry out faster than the ground, though, so if it’s crazy hot where you live you might be better off leaving them on a windowsill inside. If I can keep these things alive, you can, too.
I love your blog so much that you’ve just inspired me to try blogging myself (in german…).
I’m so excited. And a little frightened as well :)
Let’s see how it works, I will stay with you anyway!
Been growing veggies in pots for about as long as you have been alive. Easy to do. Make sure your pots are big with lots of room for roots to grow. I have my tomatoes in 24 in pots and get a great harvest each year. Also grow squash, cucumbers, peppers, herbs, fruit trees (gotta love Meyer lemons!), and my Australian Finger Lime is now flowering! YES! So if you want to know anything, feel free to ask. I have even grown watermelons in pots!
I love tuesday things posts so much that I wish you had sunday things, monday things, wednesday things…. Well, you can see where I’m going with this. Love your blog!
I’m in the same boat about not wanting to cook dinner. I’m thinking green smoothie or sweet potato.
Can you move to ohio so we can be best friends? I have oldest child syndrome also and I need a companion in my craziness.

One time when I was a kid, my mom had bought Grape Nuts and they were just sitting out on the counter. I decided to try them, and half-way through my bowl, my brother informed me that I was actually eating cat food (as a joke obviously). I think I puked for days and still cannot eat Grape Nuts to this day!
1. Wear your neon proud… I’ve been doing it for years at least it’s popular now! :) In fact, just saw these and am dying to own them. http://www.lordandtaylor.com/eng/womensapparel-denimshop-shopbystyle-cropped-Brittney_Neon_Ankle_Skinny_Jeans-lordandtaylor/219723
2. Girls is the best. I hate knowing that there’s only a few episodes left. I think I’ll just watch them again.
3. Walking is great! I hope your weather stays nice enough to keep it up!
Basil & cilantro are super easy fast growers from seed. I put tomatoes in pots when I run out of garden space- look for a pot that has a reservoir or wicking system so you can water from the bottom, that way, if you happen to be slightly innatentive for a day or so the plant has water. Also buy a tomato cage so you don’t have to stake the plant for wind.
I love the idea of a grown up ‘float’, I’m such a ice cream soda fan! But no bourbon. Hmm, maybe I’ll have to experiment! ;)

just started your blog. it’s really quite funny! and I enjoy reading your rants. for years, I have thought of creating a blog…I do not know, for the life of me, why i cannot get myself to create one. Procrastinating and maybe i have a little fear, not sure what it is exactly, but ya I do. Anyway, it’s nice to read your blog, very inspiring. Thank you!
