Sparkling Grapefruit Sangria.
It seems that every three months I crave seasonal sangria.
I don’t know what this says about me but let’s just roll with it. Because it’s quite apparent that I have a sangria issue, as witnessed here, here and here, and in my opinion that is one of the best issues to have.
Here’s the deal: do you love grapefruit? You should. We would be even better friends if you did. But I understand that it’s a little… sour, tart, whatever you want to call it and that it just might not be up your alley. I, as a matter of fact, LOVE GRAPEFRUIT. But you know this. I freak out over any and everything grapefruit, coating my lips in grapefruit lip balm, washing my hands with grapefruit soap, scrubbing my counter with grapefruit cleanser, wiping my face with grapefruit wipes and eating the heck out of as many grapefruits as I can. I adore the punch of tartness. That’s really what it is, right? Grapefruit flavor essentially punches you right smack in the schnoz.
Especially when it’s an actual grapefruit. I probably love grapefruit scented/flavored things so much because they tend to be sweeter, but as I’ve whined about before, I love the actual citrus PLAIN as day. No sugar, nuh uh.
I knew this sangria would work because a few weeks ago on a Saturday afternoon, my husband and I decided to play around with the grapefruit sorbet I had made (that stuff is like a drug) and a half-drank (drunk?) bottle of prosecco that was used for some recipe development.
Yeah.
We spent a good hour dropping a giant scoop of frozen sorbet into an ice cold glass of prosecco. Then we drank it.
It was delicious and in my mind, it was only going to get better with some additional white wine, more bubbles, simple syrup and strawberries.
If I could inject this straight into my veins, I would. Wait… but then I wouldn’t taste it. Wait… why do people say that?
I think I’ve got this wrong.
I’ll stick to drinking it.

Wow, that looks amazing. Just need some sun as an excuse to drink it!
Definitely adding this to my drink collection! Looks like you had fun getting those splash shots!
Oh my this sounds amazing–and perfect for me since I live in Florida. Grapefruits are everywhere! I love your splash shot. Its something I’ve always wanted to photograph.
Ahh you can’t do this to a pregnant lady! ;) Fortunately, I only have a week or so to go. I am ready for a cocktail haha! And this looks amazing!
Holy refreshing, Batman! Can’t wait to try this at my next soiree. Oh, I’m so fancy ;)
We’re Putin’ this on our Easter Sunday brunch menu!
This looks like summer in a glass. Can’t wait to try it!
I love grapefruit, so this sounds amazing. Definitely making this!
4-6 servings? Let’s be honest here… that’s 2… maybe three. Just kidding ;-) Well, maybe not. On a hot summer day, I’m sure that’ll go down really quickly.
Don’t do this to me at 7 AM. Ok do.
Sounds like a perfect sangria. I am also thinking that the grapefruit sorbet and proseco you and the hubs were playing around with sounds pretty amazing right there!
I’m with you, I like grapefruit plain! It’s so good and this Sangria, looks friggen amazing and refreshing!! I love all of your Sangria drinks, such clever combinations!
WOW! I’ve been googling/pinning grapefruit cocktail recipes like a crazy person the last few days to find something delicious to serve for Easter. I thought I had settled on a cocktail called the grapefruit greyhound (has a rosemary simple syrup in it!) but this might be the front-runner.
I LOVE grapefruit. It’s one of my favorites. I’m definitely making this this weekend.
So I LOVE grapefruit, but I hate it with any sugar on it! Like hate it! These picture are so beautiful! I especially love the 2 with the prosecco going everywhere! That is some talented photography!! Loving everything abou this recipe! As always!
this sounds fantastic!! i think I will have to suggest this as an Easter beverage!
Did you use a sweet or dry Riesling?
Fantastic! Learning to love the grapefruit too.
I’ve never been a huge grapefruit fan because of its aftertaste – not sure why but I just can’t bring myself to enjoy it! However, you make this look so amazing and refreshing that I’d be willing to give it a go. Oh and sign me up for grapefruit scented things – fingers are crossed tight that Bath & Body Works has something citrusy in their spring/summer lineup!
yes, i LOVE grapefruit!! I also love this drink. and you, obviously.
I’m totally a grapefruit fan too! So fresh and perky. Will be trying this soon! (Maybe as soon as today!)
Well, I DO love grapefruit. Yay for me!! LOVE!!
Grapefruit shampoo!
Would this be good at Easter brunch?
I can see myself sipping on this alllll summer. Great cocktail!
This sounds so good. I really like grapefruit but I never remember to buy it! Two of my friends are having a joint birthday party in a week. i may have to make one of your sangria recipes for them to enjoy!
I’m the same way with coconut that you are with grapefruit things. I realized that jUST this morning alone, I used coconut-scented shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body butter (the TJs one, THANK YOU for bringing that to my attention), and had coconut flakes in my smoothie. #addicted
Love grapefruit. Love prosecco (I mean L-O-V-E). Love this. (Love you.)
could you share what brands you used for the reisling and prosecco?
Oooh, I am loving the ingredients in this sangria! Pretty colors, too!
Love the splash shots!!
Seriously in love with you photos. The splash shots are amazing! Wouldn’t even know where to begin.. =) lol
Great pictures! Love the action shots!
Just wondering what counter cleaner do you use? I love the fresh, clean scent of grapefruit! Thank you!
M
LOVE that you use two bottles of alcohol in this!!! my biggest issue with homemade sangria is that it disapeers WAY too fast. Plus riesling is nice & SWEET, smart addition ;)
btw i already texted my fiance to let him know that we’re staying in next weekend simply so i can make and devour this sangria. Thanks!
Oh heck yes. I could definitely some handle some of this awesomeness right about now.
I love grapefruit and I love sangria… there’s no such thing as a sangria issue. No such thing.
This looks so delicious! The weather is FINALLY warming up in Denver this weekend and we just got a new patio table. Can you say SANGRIA PARTY?? It might just be me who attends, but that’s not weird or anything, right?
Oh my, I ordinarily can not stomach sangria (hello, hangover), but this looks so pleasantly refreshing I’m going to have to give it a go. I wonder what other fruit I can add to this bad boy… possibilities are endless!
This is why we are kindred spirits, I swear. I can already feel my mouth puckering from the tart flavor of the grapefruit! Love.
I love grapefruit! Its so wonderfully tangy and sweet, especially ruby red. Homemade sangria is always much better than store bough. You’ve got me thinking of summer nights now!
this looks like the best drink ever!
This sounds so good for the semi-warm spring weather we’ve been experiencing in California! It really can’t get better than sangria. Booze soaked fruit? Count me in.
PERFECT for Easter weekend! Yum!
I actually hate grapefruit. At least, grapefruit flavored/scented things. An actual grapefruit, however, I do enjoy from time to time. Since I can enjoy the actual fruit, I might just have to give this a go. Sangria can never be bad, in my opinion. Not ever.
I’ve never thought to try grapefruit in sangria, it’s always about the the oranges, lemons, and limes. This drink looks so fresh and fantastic!

I love grapefruit, and it looks so refreshing in this cocktail. I’d love a couple right now.
I absolutely love Sangria! Can’t wait to try this!
Yep, right in the schnoz. This is why you are my Internet friend. I have a batch of homemade grapefruit sorbet in the freezer, as we speak. I’m pouring this over top as soon as I am physically able to do so!!! I knew we were friends for a reason….
Beautiful drink! I think I’ll try it out today when we grill out :)
I’m not a big grapefruit fan, but this sounds delicious!
