Tuesday Things.
1. It’s day 4 of vacation and tonight will be cone 4 of vacation. Working out every day on vacation = ice cream every day on vacation. I’m good at math.
2. I wish every week could be shark week. I like shark week. Except for the scary shark part.
3. Freaking s’mores marshmallows. Not marshmallows for s’mores – s’mores marshmallows. WHAT.
4. I’d like to personally thank the West Wing season 4 for getting me through one hellish day of travel last Friday. Also: James Taylor.
5. Speaking of travel, is it seriously necessary to still talk about smoking on planes? Do people still smoke in 2013? My mom smoked for years so I am super passionate about this subject and find nothing more disgusting. Okay, well maybe a few things. But really, people still think they can do it on an airplane? I just don’t geeeeet it.
6. I can’t even take these girls: white chocolate blueberry banana bread and goat cheese stuffed black bean sliders. I want to live inside their brains. I freaking love them.
7. Are these annoying yet? 34 reasons to make 90s girl feel old. Of course they aren’t. Because this one talks about Samantha the American Girl doll! I totally had her. (spoiler alert: I still do)
8. Eastbound + Down is coming back for a final season which is really like one big bonus because we thought the last season was the final season. Kenny Powers for life. Annnnnd I can’t talk about Dexter because I haven’t watched it yet. Shhhhhh.
9. I have such a pet peeve with road rage. Like, why bother having road rage? Why get worked up over something so miniscule? Says the person who passenger-seat-drove over 8 hours this weekend. Oops…
10. Thank you to all my fellow lunatics who alerted me to how joshua jackson basically IS pacey witter. (but better.)
11. I’m kind embarrassingly but not apologetically infatuated with these little sugar bomb beers. I hate that I like them so much.

The S’more marshmallows are insane, Cindy’s bread left me drooling this morning and Megan’s burgers are just insane!! I want them all!
Oh and I cannot believe people still smoke either! I HATE smoking more than anything. It is so grows!
Have fun this week!
I do feel old reading those lists. Not gonna lie- totally had Samantha and also a little too excited for Girl Meets World (even though it makes me feel ancient!!).
I like your workout/ice cream math. Yesterday I didn’t work out and had a burger, and a cookie before dinner. I like your math better. :)
And thanks for burger love! Let’s make dessert patty melts on Cindy’s bread! Hell yes.
P.S. I had Felicity (we have so much in common with red hair and all), but my sister had Samantha and I totally liked her better.
Hahahaa I still have my Samantha doll too! She was my fave and I can’t believe they discontinued her!
No they did not! That is so wrong. She was the best!
I understand your “what’s up with road rage” thing- but I have been known to demonstrate certain “gestures” when idiots have almost killed me. ;)
Thank you for pointing out those delicious black bean burgers. I’m making them. and the white chocolate blueberry bread? yeah. that too. (:
ahhhh agree!! who is still trying to light up in the air?!?! :)
Mmmmm….. Pacey….
P.s totally was part of a babysitter’s club… We got no jobs???!!!
Already saw Cindy’s bread and the Julie’s mmallows. Wow.
Have a blast on your trip! You deserve it!!!!
Agree about the smoking! I just don’t understand…..but then again I won’t get into it because I don’t want to offend anyone :) But I am pretty passionate on the subject as well!
Um Hi. Those beeritas are kind of ridiculous and I am embarrassed to admit it. But I will for you.
I totally feel the workout ice cream math. Sometimes the things I eat right after the gym are unspeakable.
Also another insanely good beergarita is costco’s margarita mix + any light beer. Like all summer long insanely good. A local brewery makes a tangerine wheat that’s awesome in it. It’s probably also really good after working out.
I feel the workout math.
Also, I was obsessed with the American Girl Dolls and wanted Kirsten SO BAD. But because she’s a frigging 100$ doll, my parents said no way. So I did “quarter jobs” around the house (vacuum the whole house, get a quarter. wash all the windows in the whole whose, get a quarter…dust everything that is dusty in the entire house, get a quarter) so I could finally buy her. Yup.
dude…we totally love you! believe it!
and speaking of the 90’s…they totally sell those crazy platform, white sneakers I was obsessed with at Target…like right now. wut?!
Thank you for mentioning my mallows :)
OMG I have Samantha too!!!
Ahh, that ice cream cone looks so good! Eating ice cream cones on vacation is always the best!
Oh man number 7 did make me feel old. And Joshua Jackson is such a hunk, although I also thought he was good looking back in the Dawson Creek days, which clearly needed to be re-evaluated.
Vacation math is the best. My favorite formula is eating ice cream (or anything else my heart desires) and not working out. Winning! (but probably not)
Enjoy your holiday!
I just returned from vacationing in Charleston, SC and EVERYONE there smokes. Seriously. No matter where I’d go, smokers everywhere. Every single person in the bars. I definitely feel like I got some second-hand while I was down there….yuck.
#10!!! I idolized Pacey as a teen, and still love him. I just recently started watching Fringe just because he is in it. OBSESSED!!! Love it.
PS. I DESPISE smoking. Grosses me out to no end. My mom is a smokert too, and it is my life goal to get her to stop. I just dont GET IT! What is so awesome about a cancer stick?!
white chocolate blueberry banana bread, are you kidding me?
that sounds AMAZING!
xo, cheyenne
I still have Samantha too! I was so sad when they retired her. I love your ice cream math too.
Ice cream is most defiantly a MUST! I just went to Target and got 2 tubs and I’m not on vacation, but in marathon training so that means it’s ok to have daily right? Maybe twice daily?
I have been eating ice cream on the daily, yesterday was double down day! And I don’t understand the smoking thing either! It smells, and makes your teeth yellow, and not to mention GROSS. Gah. And YAY shark week, but will probably never want to swim in the ocean ever again!
I haven’t watched Dexter either. But it’s because I have Time Warner Cable & they dropped it! UGH…going through such withdrawal!!!
But I have started watching The West Wing on Netflix per your suggestion. :)
OMG. I totally had an American Girl doll and read all the books.. so obsessed (still).
…And West Wing got me through a sick day on the sofa yesterday. I until very recently lived in D.C. , and still wish I’d run into Josh Lyman. ;)
Smoking = Bad News Bears! Was someone smoking on a plane? Crazy?!?!?
OMG I loved American Girl Dolls! Fortunately my Mom did too, so I had {have} way too many to even disclosed here. You obviously do vaca like I do vaca! Workout + local indulgance = perfection.
Oh, the memories! I wished I had an American Girl doll when I was a girl, my favorite was Samantha. I was especially amused to see Robert Downey, Jr on the cover of Sassy magazine in 1989, aging did wonders for him! The smores marshmallows…OMG!
#2 – Shark Week. I live in Downtown Silver Spring (MD), home to the Discovery Channel building. I am very, very sad to say that they are not putting Chompie up this year (giant inflatable float-like shark that has graced the building during Shark Week in years past). The only reason I am forgiving them is that we get to go see Return of Jaws (for free!) Friday night at Fountain Plaza!
I now need to look up that Tamagotchi app. Thanks a lot!
I love your blog and most of your recipes but I was offended by #5. I do still smoke. And yes, people do still smoke in 2013. I have been smoking for over 30 years. it is a VERY hard habit to break, some say worse than heroin. I have tried to quit smoking many times, and have not been successful. I didn’t expect to see you post something like that. It really hurt me. :(
lynda, i did not mean to offend you (or anyone) that still smokes whatsoever. i am not judging anyone who smokes. i can’t throw stones because i have my own bad habits! but with how much smoking has been banned in bars/outdoors, i am just still shocked that on airplanes it is mentioned multiple times – because i don’t think anyone would try lighting up on a plane these days.
also, i completely understand how difficult it is. my mom smoked for over 40 years. she tried to quit many times during my childhood and it was pure hell for all of us. i cried myself to sleep basically from ages 8-18 because i listened to her cough all night, every night from COPD and was convinced she would die any minute. i was made fun of constantly because my clothes and toys smelled like smoke. her father died from the disease when my mom was in her 20s so i hope you get where i am coming from – i am just VERY passionate about this. everybody has their causes and things that they believe in – and this is my biggest. i am extremely sorry for offending you and did not mean to hurt you at all. i just can’t even begin to express my passion on this subject, but i hope you can get where i am coming from now. xoxoxo
I understand. Thanks for explaining your position.
Jessica, I was just wondering how you got over the fear of losing your mum. I’m in a different situation, but after 10 years of illness I lost my dad a couple years back and I think I put a lot of attachment on my mum – to the point where it’s painful really. You seem really close to your family so I thought you might understand having a part inside that’s just scared about losing someone & feeling alone / vulnerable… Sorry for such a cheery subject ;) this just resonated with me. Love your blog! x
the worry/anxiety definitely ruled my life for years, and i’m not sure if it was through talking to others or just growing older – but eventually i learned that i could not control her or the situation. i used to just repeat to myself that i couldn’t control it and she had to make her own decisions. i probably repeated that to myself (even out loud) for 2-3 years before it really sank in. i realized that there was truly nothing i could do, so had to let the worry go. xoxo
It’s not easy to let these anxieties go, and it’s not easy to open up about your personal experiences… but I’m glad you have. Thanks for sharing x
” Do people still smoke in 2013?”
RIGHT?? My boyfriend and I totally had our minds blown when we moved from up north to Oklahoma last year. I totally understand people like Lynda (above) who have been smoking for-ev-er–my dad is in the same boat and I have seen him try to quit SO many times!!! It’s horrifically hard. But the weirdo thing that blows my mind is how many people in Oklahoma IN MY AGE GROUP (say, 25-35) smoke! Like, did we not all have DARE?!? I seriously remember learning how bad smoking was in 5th grade, going home and telling my dad I wanted him to quit smoking, and basically being vehemently anti-smoking from then on. So yeah… I don’t get it either!
Also, I totally had Kirsten the American Girl, which was awesome because she was Swedish and lived in Minnesota just like me :)
this.
i think this is more what i was getting at – i actually understand when generations older than me still smoke. but when i see people younger than me, the same age or even slightly older doing it, i’m just shocked. i feel like we were taught that smoking is a death sentence. however… i’m sure many people can say the same about some of my recipes, haha.
Again- totally relate to everything you mentioned! But those marshmellow s’mores- OhhMyeeeGoshhhh
Xo

I LOVE Samantha! To pieces! I still have her, naturally…because what MONSTER gets rid of their American Girl dolls!? She was my first and only American Girl and I received her from Santa when I was 8 years old. I still have a lot of love in my heart for her….always will.
Hi! I’ve been reading your blog for a few months and I have to tell you, not only do your recipes rock, but your sense of humor is right up my alley. Now I know why–you are an East Bound and Down fan, and Kenny Powers is my hero! I have the T-shirt to prove it. For real. Thanks for cracking me up and inspiring me in the kitchen!
Two things:
1. While Samantha was good, Kirsten was my favorite. My Kirsten doll is still at my parents’ house, waiting until I have kids!
2. On ice cream math: This is exactly why it was awesome to stop at a local ice cream place 30 miles into my 42 mile ride last weekend. BLT + ice cream? Sure, why not?
STOP. I wanted the Samantha doll my entire childhood!! (And by childhood, I mean life because when I found out a couple of months ago – when my coworker was buying a doll for her 5-year-old granddaughter – that Samantha was discontinued, I immediately hit eBay looking for a way to make my childhood dream come true. But of course, now she’s even more expensive than she was back in the day (and USED!) and naturally I’m an adult now, so rent takes priority over dolls.
*sigh*
Maybe someday…
