Chili Garlic Chicken Skewers with Greek Yogurt Dip.
Time to eat all the incredible things in 2015!
It is just me, or does the new year not really start until the first Monday of said new year? It’s kinda true.
Please join me in forever being a Monday starter and reveling in this first REAL day of the new year… five days late. Indulge me. Don’t let me be a loner.
My resolution this year is the same as last: I don’t want to eat one single thing that I don’t completely #omglove. At least not on purpose.
I want to adore every bite I eat, to flip over each morsel I put in my mouth and keep food the wonderful, super enjoyable, nostalgic and perfect thing that it is in my life right now.
To keep on loving it so much like I do right now, or even more if that’s possible.
Which means I totally might have to cover my broccoli in cheese and use a bit more bacon grease when applicable, but hey. Whatever works.
I am on a serious mission (again) to get out of the boring chicken rut. I went through a good ten months of not wanting anything to do with chicken, aside from the perfect roasted one here and there and maaaaaybe in taco form, and due to that I went back to boring basics since they were easy. Because, of course, if I wasn’t eating, I would just make the easiest thing. Total brat mode.
The other thing is that I’m pretty nutso over this chili garlic combination these days – on meat, fish, vegetables, heck, even on grilled bread with nothing else. I love the spice and the slight sweetness. And! Then combined with the tangy yogurt dipping sauce… which gives it a cool and refreshing kick, I’m just so crazy about it. It lends loads of flavor to whatever foods I’m working with. Always a plus, of course.
I skewered these little bites to do something different and switch it up a bit, to keep the meal fun. Because skewered bites ARE fun! You can definitely just make a regular old chicken breast or thigh in the same manner and rock out the exact flavors though. Whatever floats your boat. The things I must do to entertain myself…
Chili Garlic Chicken Skewers with Yogurt Sauce
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into chunks
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 tablespoon honey
- 3 tablespoons chili garlic paste
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- lime wedges for serving
- 1 cup plain greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons snipped chives
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- Add the chicken pieces to a baking dish or large resealable plastic bag. In a bowl, whisk together the oil, honey, garlic paste, salt and pepper until combined. Pour it over the chicken and mix until all of the chicken is covered. Place in the fridge and marinate for at least 2 hours or even overnight.
- Soak a few bamboo skewers in water. Skewer 4 to 5 chicken pieces on each skewer. Heat a large skillet (or your grill!) over medium-high heat and add the olive oil (not if using the grill). Add the chicken skewers and cook on each side for 4 to 5 minutes, until cooked through. Serve immediately with the yogurt sauce and extra lime wedges.
- Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl until creamy and combined.

Love your goal for 2015, and the fact that you made these chicken skewers look sooo amazing. I am so with you about no boring chicken. Why bother. These look far from boring.
I am totally going to be a goal stealer, and steal your omglove every bite of food I put into my mouth goal for 2015.
And I think this is the place to start. Chicken on a stick is the key to my heart.
Anything on a skewer wins my heart. I get bored with chicken but you managed to spice it up for me. Thanks! And skewers are nice for little kids to eat off of.
I like that you added honey to the yogurt sauce. This might just be the perfect chicken bite! Love where 2015 is headed! :)
This looks great!
This sounds sooo amazing! Considering our grill broke a while ago, I’m so glad this recipe doesn’t need it :)
Serving Chilli dish with yoghurt is perfect for me! I love the cooling effect of dairy when my tongue is tingeing with spices. You new years resolution is genius and the mastermind behind stuff like this. This will be on my table this week I am sure of it :)
I haven’t had chicken in a while because I was in a rut too, but you’ve got me interested with these! Pinning!
I’m going to still your goal of only eating things that taste amazing!
Oh, this looks divine and I definitely know about that chicken rut. I’ll cook use it for weeks on end and then all of a sudden come to a crashing halt, not knowing what to do with it or having gone into chicken overload where i don’t want to touch it for months.
Can’t wait to try this one! Wishing you and your beautiful family the very best for 2015, Jessica!
I’m really glad I’m not the only one who thinks the New Year starts on the first Monday. My resolutions start today! This recipe looks simply tantalizing. Thank you!
Totally with ya on the new year not starting until today…my most recent post basically says the same thing, hah. These look so yummy! I’m always struggling with ways to keep chicken interesting, so keep these recipes coming!
How did you know I needed a chicken yogurt hug? You’re the BEST :)
Agree that the year didn’t officially start until today. Also, I don’t understand people who thing the week starts on Sundays. What! Come on.
I completely agree with the Sunday thing, do. not. get. it!!
Yep, I’m joining you in the fact that it doesn’t feel like a new year until the first Monday! Other half went back to work, so it’s a new working week, last week we were still in holiday mode!! Love this recipe, I could eat about 5 hundred of these chicken skewers!
These look SO delish!! These would be great to make for lunches to mix things up!
You didn’t want chicken for 10 months? I am ALWAYS looking for new chicken recipes, so I am all over these!
Also, that sounds like a great resolution :)
chili-garlic/sambal is always in my fridge.
If you really don’t like broccoli, try bok choy (or broccoli, gasp!) sauteed in your less-flavored oil of choice, a drop of sesame oil, oyster sauce, and sambal.
it’s boss as heck.
Omg these look amazing jessica!
Oh YUM! I think I’m going to try this with chicken drumsticks this week. I love chili garlic paste :D
This looks like more than just another pretty photo…these look AMAZING!!! I cannot wait to try!! If I could throw in an emoji it would be the smile-face guy with the heart eyeballs. Love.
Would Sriracha and minced garlic work instead of chili garlic paste?
i’m not sure if it would be exactly the same, i personally think the chili garlic sauce has little more sweetness (or something) to it. the sriracha and garlic may work in a pinch though!
Yum I’m totally going to make this with tofu!
These skewers sound so delicious and easy! They make me want to dig out the grill even though it’s January. :)
YES. Thank you so much for agreeing that the first Monday after New Year’s is the real New Year’s! I fully support this, and feel the need to inform some overly ambitious friends about this rule. Because once it’s on the internet, it’s true, right? This chicken looks awesome, btw. Truly gorgeous photos, as always!
These look amazing! Anything with a yogurt dipping sauce? Yes please!
I love your New Year’s resolutions and I love these chicken skewers! So excited to try them! Just say no to boring chicken.
This looks amazing. Going into a Real Food Meal Plan very soon!
Those skewers look amazing! And the new year never feels like it starts until the Monday. I’m still on holiday mode until then!
Hmmm honey yogurt dip is on of our faves! Add a pinch of blue cheese = heaven!
I agree with you about only eating amazing, delicious food. This recipe definitely
falls into that category!
Hello! These look delicious!!! Just wondering if you can buy the chili garlic paste or do you make it? I can’t wait to make them! Thanks for sharing!
i buy it! i use this brand: http://www.amazon.com/Huy-Fong-Vietnamese-Chili-Garlic/dp/B0006SKCVI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420649949&sr=8-1&keywords=chili+garlic+paste
I’m with ya. The new year shouldn’t ever start until Monday. You can’t start healthy eating on a weekend, it just doesn’t make sense!
Can I ask a silly question? What do you mean by chili-garlic paste? Sriracha?
not silly at all! it’s a condiment you should be able to find in the asian section of your grocery store. i use this brand! http://www.amazon.com/Huy-Fong-Vietnamese-Chili-Garlic/dp/B0006SKCVI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420649949&sr=8-1&keywords=chili+garlic+paste
Saw this post first thing yesterday and instantly knew what I was making for dinner. It was a hit, so delish!
These look amazing! I can’t wait for it to warm back up into the 30s so I can send honey onto the deck to grill! ;)
It looks amazzzingggggg! So delicious! Need to try this recipe.
Happy new year!
It is always the day I have to go back to work that real life starts again. This year was rough since it was Friday. It was so hard to get out of my sweats.
I’m too lazy to put the chicken on skewers and arrange it beautifully like you have, but I’m definitely planning to follow this recipe using chicken thighs!
This is definitely a recipe I’ll try this year. Looks delicious!
I am sooooo with you on the only eating what you love!! Boring foods SUCKS! This chicken is definitely NOT boring!
What is chili garlic paste and which company makes it??

Ohhh these look splendid! Can’t wait to give them a try!
xoxo Alice Rose
Made this chicken for dinner tonight–I used boneless chicken thighs and didn’t skewer them but they were fab anyway!! Also, I couldn’t find chili garlic paste in 2 supermarkets so I used regular garlic paste and threw in red pepper flakes- still tasted great! Thanks so much, Jessica!
Made this for dinner tonight! It was SO delicious and will definitely make again! Didn’t have skewers, so just cooked the chicken breast chunks in the skillet. YUM! Served it with oven roasted broccoli and greek rice.
These were delicious! I can’t wait to make these again. And the avocado ranch is amazing….as I was eating it tonight, I was already thinking about adding it to a fried egg sandwich for lunch tomorrow!
commented on the wrong chicken skewer recipe! sorry!!
I have all these ingredients minus the skewers :( …. but really YAY! This is so dinner for tomorrow.
I’m like you, I get stuck with chicken a lot, but this sounds like a great recipe!
Also, LOVE your serving size of 4 appropriately, 2 obnoxiously – so funny :)
These look so delicious, my mouth is watering…
love your 2015 goal and the chicken yogurt hug!
