May Favorites: Beauty.
Oh hiiiiii favorite time of the month!
I have new things, old things, red things and blue things. Okay not really red things and blue things but you know. Maybe. So much of what I’ve been using this month is the same as last – because I have found some serious, serious favorites.
I am still very very very hooked on the benefit rollerlash mascara. LOVE. I finally listened to you guys and made the best discovery at TJ Maxx, finding my macadamia deep repair masque and batiste dry shampoo for SO much less than anywhere else. Including amazon, where it was previously the cheapest. That was definitely my highlight this month!
Plus, they have like tons of Shisheido skincare?! Who knew.
Anyhoo – let’s do this thang.Â
First, a new version of an old fave.
You may remember that last summer I discovered the Estee Lauder bronze goddess perfume. OMG, it smells exactly like my childhood at the beach. It’s fabulous. I wore it for about two months before finding out I was pregnant, and then I just couldn’t really stomach much perfume. So I have it left in the larger bottle. BUT! I was so freaking excited to see that they had a rollerball. I picked mine up at Macy’s and not only is it so pretty, it’s perfect for the purse. You KNOW my obsession with rollerballs.
Plus, now that I have Max, they are the easiest way to use perfume – if I leave him, I can wait to put this on in the car and it won’t bug him. Win win win.
Um, how pretty is that? Right?
Next up!
We have this new Tarte sunscreen that I grabbed during the VIB sale. I love all things Tarte so I didn’t hesitate. I’ve been using this instead of the first aid beauty SPF cream and I really like it. Everyday it goes on my face and neck (with the excess on my hands) and yes, it’s just sunscreen, but it works super well under makeup. Especially since I have dry skin.
And. I think the complexion rescue is coming out on top of the meteorites baby glow that I mentioned last month. I LOVE THIS. It is completely foolproof. Half the time I don’t even look in the mirror when I put it on my face and a little goes a really long way. I also love the glow that it gives.
For lip things – two colors that I’ve been grabbing from my purse (almost always in a rush, and again, almost always not even looking in the mirror) – the first being a Too Faced melted metals. The shade I got is melted bunny and, uh, it’s sort of like frosty 80s pink and I love it. Like better than an 80s icy pink if you get my drift. Do you get my drift? Ever?
My other grab-and-go shade has been an oldie but a goodie – MAC saint germain. I’ve always loved this color but it can be scary if you’re not cool toned. It definitely leans blue-ish pink and I adore it.
Still loving from last month: this Kevyn Aucoin bronzer. GAHHH. It is so, so pretty. We’ve been walking outside a bunch and I’ve been planting during the day, and even though I wear sunscreen, my freckles come out in the sun. I love this even more with some color on my face! The shimmer is so, so subtle.
I also went back to the tartlette blush in celebrated this month. It might even be taking the place of my usual favorite, exposed!! EEK. I still really love the clinique blushes I mentioned last month, but the shades aren’t quite neutral enough for me to just grab a random lip color.
And finally, the only thing I’ve had on my eyes is urban decay sellout. And TONNNNNS of mascara.
So this is the exact run down of what I’ve been wearing on my face this month if I have somewhere to be or just want to wear makeup: the tarte sunguard > the complexion rescue > maybelline age rewind concealer (I mix the lightest shade and the pink brightener shade) > NARS eyeshadow base > urban decay sellout on my lids > mascara, and if I go OUT out, single false lashes on the ends > kevyn aucoin bronzer > tarte celebrated blush > either the clinique chubby highligher or the hourglass ambient lighting powder in luminous light.
This way, I can do whatever kind of lip color I want – and many times it’s just lip balm so I can kiss the crap out of my baby.
Also! For years I’ve raved about St Tropez and the miracle self tan that it works on my super pale skin. You know? I haven’t used it since Max was born because I used to dress in all black sweats and not touch anything for 8 hours after putting it on – and well, that’s just not realistic with a baby.
But! They have an express tan that is awesome – and works in just 2 to 3 hours. I’m only doing my arms/legs/shoulders/etc since I’m still nursing, but it’s the best. Definitely my go-to over the original.
And one more oldie… my favorite Hempz lotion. I’ve used this brand + scent since I was in college (back when I was an idiot and used a tanning bed every now and then – a girl there recommended this to me) and it smells like bananas. Kind of? In the best way possible.
It’s super moisturizing without being greasy and I’ve always used it on my skin when I get a little sun. Freaking love.
That’s a wrap! I tried to keep it a bit simpler this month. Did I keep it a bit simpler? All you minimalists are laughing hysterically and rolling your eyes at me. I KNOW IT.
Soooo you know what’s up. Tell me what you are L.O.V.I.N.G. right now. Just today, I bought the sparkly white Essie summer polish in private weekend. It’s more opaque and less streaky than I anticipated! Okay. That is all. Give me the deets!
{as usual, none of this is sponsored and all of these products were purchased by me. i am not affiliated with any of the companies above, nor do i accept free products. just love to talk about what i like, makeup junkie to makeup junkie. there are a few amazon affiliate links above. thank you for being here!}

Everything looks great. I’m going to look into finding those products.

i just picked up a teeny tiny bottle of hempz at ulta….love it!
Love roller balls too :) and that scent sounds like my kind of scent.
And that section of TJ Maxx is ridiculous. New discoveries every time.
TooFaced Melted lipstick is so amazing and I love that shade!

I really want to try the Tarte Sunscreen, glad to hear you liked it!

I’ve heard so many great things about Bare Minerals products, they’ve been consistently recommended to me, even by my dermatologist. I’m so eager to try them! Plus, this particular product you mentioned seems to be just what I’ve been looking for!
I’m a makeup minimalist but love reading your beauty round ups. Want to try the Hempz lotion .. Thanks!
I seriously look forward to these posts every month. And every time, I get a little closer to buying Tarte Celebrated and some urban decay eyeshadow. ;)
I think you might really love the lipstick in the shade “Natalie” from Eva Mendes’s new middle-market line, Circa. You can only find Circa in Walgreens, and the prices are a little higher than regular drugstore brands but less than what you would find at Sephora or Nordstrom. But the shade Natalie is a sliiiightly blue-toned nude but still has the perfect amount of peach and pink mixed in… its wonderful.
Also I think you might like the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector (the liquid form in the bottle, not the pressed powder!). It’s a more versatile product than the powder (you can mix it in your foundations or use it on your body) and less glittery, but still gives you some major, noticeable glow. Also, a little goes a long way. I’ve been obsessed.
Can’t wait for next month’s posts already! :)
So I actually never wear makeup except for eye shadow & mascara to weddings once or twice a year. But I read these updates & share with my friends who think I am in the know! Ha! Thanks for making me seem cool.
haha thank you!
Thanks so much for the tips on the BareMinerals Complexion Gel! I am wearing it daily as a foundation; the texture and weight is perfect for summer.
I was at a BareMinerals outlet in search of the gel on sale (no dice), but did try an amazing luminizer called The Shining Moment. It’s a beautiful, pigmented rose gold but doesn’t look too intense. Check it out!
I really want to try that Bare Minerals and the white nail polish trend. I’m LOVING Dolce&Gabbana Light Blue rollerball as well as the new Clinique lipsticks!
I am loving Shiseido skincare all over again! I used it years ago exclusively and am now back to it! I like switching up my moisturizers because it’s great for the skin to do something different sometimes :) I just discovered Shiseido’s version of “swispers” – the softest cotton pads ever and they don’t absorb the product which means you can use less toner etc. and actually get it on your skin instead of only in the cotton. This week is private sale week at Bloomingdales so I am stocking up, getting my triple points and I think we get money back too!
I have heard of these – dying to try them!
You have SOLD me on the Estee Lauder perfume. I’ve always wanted it but was put off by the size and price. GET ME THAT ROLLERBALL.
This month I’ve been OBSESSED with ColourPop eyeshadows. They are easily the most pigmented and iinnssaanneelly glittery gorgeous metallic shadows I’ve ever worn. Like, Holy Grail status. And at $5 a piece, I can justify buying 7 of them, right?
I was going to comment about ColourPop too!! Obsessed is totally the right word! I have put in 6 orders since May 19th. I love love love everything they do! I cannot believe how gorgeous the eye shadows are and how long they stay put. The Lippies (hate that word but that’s what they are called) are on par with Too Faced Melted. And the price point is crazy!
I’ve wanted to try colour pop for a few months after seeing it everywhere on youtube. I think you’re selling me!
All these products look lovely!!

i think you would love this product called Nerium! It is an anti-aging day and night cream and works wonders. I am 25 and use it every night and my skin has never been better! You can go on my website to check it out if you are interestd :) Also if you do want to try it and dont like it, you can get your money back within 30 days! The product is amazing.
I am so excited to try the Bare Minerals complexion rescue cream. I normally use Benefit’s Big Easy, but it’s a little matte for Summer. What do you use to remove your mascara? Coz I struggle with getting it off without scrubbing and adding 10 years worth of wrinkles to my eyes….
over the last year or two I’ve really got in the habit of removing my makeup with an oil based cleanser. a lot of times i will just use coconut oil, but companies that make the oil in a pump (like Mac Cleanse Off Oil) is so much more convenient right now for me. it melts my makeup off! then i wash my face with cleanser after.
Hi! Here’s my beauty stuff:
– I’m currently trying out Skin Inc. serum which I had been seeing all over blogs. I’m feeling pretty glowy because of it!
– The perfect summer white: Sally Hansen Xtreme in White Out + OPI Kyoto Pearl. Kyoto Pearl can be kind of hard to find but I actually came across it at Ulta in Pittsburgh last weekend and had to buy it! It’s the prettiest combo, really looks like pearls, and I always get compliments when I have it on.
– Currently trying out a sample of a perfume called Warm! I’m on the fence about it. I love GOOD beachy stuff so I need to try out the Bronze Goddess. (Victoria’s Secret Breathless was a go-to for a long time.)
I am so going to the Ulta you were at to get that Kyoto Pearl!
Love the idea of all of these, but not much of a make-up wearer in general. May have to check out a couple of the things at TJMax though–you’ve got me wondering what I am missing! But one thing has to be said, let the freckles out once in a while! Freckles are awesome and cute and don’t need covering up! We are who we are (not that a little improvement isn’t fun now and again )
Oh I agree! I love my freckles. They go quite dormant in the winter though and pop up in the summer!
I have to try that bronzer – it looks amazing!
and I just happen to be going by a Ultra this afternoon. perfect timing!
I’ve had my eye on the Tarte sunscreen but haven’t tried it out yet – glad to know you like it!
I’m currently obsessed with CND’s new Vinylux nail polish in Creekside (a powder blue), which is somewhere between a shellac and normal nail polish. It dries SUPER fast (which I’m sure would be great for anyone with babies/toddlers/young kids) and lasts longer than regular nail polish. I’m almost at a week without any chips! I’m also crazy about Josie Maran products–the Argan Oil Light, the illuminizer wand, the exfoliating powder, the MILK (my favorite product of all time I think), and I just received her Love and Light collection from the QVC sale over the weekend. I’m excited to try the protect and perfect! I always look forward to your makeup posts at the end of the month!
The lipstick is a gorgeous colour! x
I’m obsessed with the things I picked up from Shiro cosmetics (indie brand) during their anniversary sale. They do beautiful mineral cosmetics (plus some lip things), so I got some more eyeshadows and an incredible blush called 1-Up. It’s a gorgeous natural pink with a touch of… not shimmer, but that kind of iridescence of a highlighter, without being a highlighter? Anyway, it’s beautiful for my pale, cool toned skin.
And I love all their eyeshadows but I’ve been obsessed with Cake and Moon Prism Power. Cake is this light iridescent cream white that’s gorgeous on the inner corner, and Moon Prism is similar but with more of a green/pink cast to the iridescence, and less pigmented. So brushed over any other eyeshadow, it adds such a lovely gentle shimmer.
/novel. I just like pretty things.
i am a die hard bare minerals girl! I have used theIr powder foundation for years and still love it! But I’ve recently been using it cosmetics your skin but better CC+ cream. I still use bare minerals but this a quicker alternative when I am in a hurry. I just have to use a little concealer under the eyes plus this. I also love Obagi nu derm products. Have used this for about 7 years and my skin looks ten years younger! It is pricey initially but I buy replacements on Amazon. The best nail base coat, strengthened, top coat is Essie! I’ve used OPI exclusively but Essie is the best! Absolutely no chips!
I am SO intrigued by this self-tanner. I have read some reviews and they all look really good. If I do buy this, do you have any tips/tricks? Any warnings? I am pretty fair complected (blonde, blue eyes) so I need all the help I can get with tanning!
Also, you are soooo persuading me to get my favorite perfume in a roller ball (Burberry Brit or Chanel Chance?)! Decisions, Decisions.
okay i am crazy when i do the tanner – i don’t have as much time right now with the baby so this may change, but over the last few years, this is what i do: in the morning, i shower, shave, put on VERY THICK body butter everywhere. in the evening (like 3-4 hours before bed), i shower, but only use exfoliating gloves and exfoliate all over (no soap so no residue). i dry off, rub some lotion on rough spots (heels, knees, elbows, etc) then use the tanner. i stand naked for like 10 minutes, then i throw on a black tank and loose black sweatpants. in the morning (after 8 hours), i wash it off with just my hands and some soap!
i am a burberry brit girl all the way – it’s one of my forever perfumes, i wore it for years!
I know this sounds lame but you should try the Target “Sinful Colors” brand nail polish. It’s $2.00 but it stays on my nails SOOOO GOOOOOD. And they have pretty colors. I got one that was like a periwinkle and I couldn’t stop looking at my nails.
Oh I have some sinful colors!! I like them!
I used to use Both Shiseido and Origins skincare products but I switched exclusively to Eminence products almost two months ago. I haven’t had a single breakout, my skin glows, and it’s smoother than ever! It’s on the pricier side but you can get good deals on amazon. I also LOVE CND Solar Oil for my cuticles. My cuticles get really dry from constantly washing my hands and using hand sanitizer at work. Huge lifesaver for me.
Too Faced Melted Metal in Melted Peony! It’s a lot like Melted Bunny, actually, but leans more gold frost than cool frost. I *love* the way they taste, btw. <3

you’re welcome :-)
I’m dying over it. I SO DO NOT NEED IT. Wah.
I am actually really surprised you like the St. Tropez express tan. It went on really uneven on me. Not that I missed a spot but it was like half of my body absorbed it.. I don’t know how to explain it other than saying I looked like I was covered in tan freckles. It also took forever to fade and I smelled horrible the next day lol. I just ordered the St. Tropez in shower self tanner that I think you will love. It takes three minutes and it is supposed to build up a gradual tan. There are other express self tanners that I like much better than that one. Thanks for sharing your favorites!
ahhh really?! which other ones do you love? have you tried regular st tropez? that’s what i’ve always used (after trying, like, every tanner a few years ago) and the express seemed exactly the same! i am DYING to try the in shower one. thinking i’m going to order it right now. eeeek!
You HAVE to try Loving Tan 2-Hour Express tanner! It’s a mousse, you’re dry in about 30 seconds and you shower it off two hours later! SO easy and not sticky! Just look them up and you’ll be convinced! Plus it ships from Traverse City :) I promise you’ll love it, Jess!
I haven’t tried the St Tropez express, but I’m a fan of the St Tropez Dark. However, but favorite express tanner is Norvell One. You can normally find it on Amazon. It’s the best! @Raechel, have you tried a self tanning prep spray? I think they make a difference and help you get an even and deep tan. I like California Tans.
Have you heard about the new UD Naked Smokey palette?? DYING over it. Dead.
I’m so bad at getting new products because I refuse to buy things I don’t love which means I try millions of samples and then when I find something, dont ever change. Ever. BUT, I just discovered Origins Night-a-mins oil. Oh my stars. It is amazing. I pair it with Lush’s Let The Good Times Roll exfoliant a few nights a week and my skin is so soft and smooth! I’m obsessed.
I also just bought Coola’s travel kit and Karena and Katrinas Sea Salt spray. I’ll report back next month :)
I finally caved and bought Benefit Rollerlash (which I keep calling Rollerball for some reason). I already have a zillion mascaras, including Benefit They’re Real and Bad Gal, so I thought I didn’t need Rollerlash…and I was wrong…totally need it. I was VERY skeptical of its claim that you can forego the eyelash curler but I love the results, even without the curler. The little comb is genius. I also love Hempz products but man that logo…I am a SERIOUS adult, darn it!!

Hmm, does the St. Tropez cause you to leave streaks on your furniture or sheets? That is why I avoid self-tanners and just live life pasty. Ha! I’m so hooked on Pop of Passion lip balms. I have 6! Ugh, I’m such a hoarder. Like you I am addicted to the roller lash mascara. Have you heard anything about Benefit Erase Paste? I was just reading the reviews on it. I’m interested.
