Tuesday Things.
1. Um did you see that Whole Foods is coming out with a lower-priced store? Please come near me because the amount of money I can drop in the grocery store is disgusting.
2. I know I can’t craft to save my life, but I want to make this vertical herb garden. It still seems like a bunch of work, soooo maybe I’ll just stick with my pots.
3. What was the best taco you had last week? I NEED TO KNOW.
4. Okay. I just can’t do the birkenstock thing. I think they are so hideous. I would rather go barefoot. BUT. I have zero sense of style (unless glitter trash neon late 90s counts) so what I think means nothing. You?
5. My friend Tessa has come out with the best book ever – this ultimate cookie handbook. It tells you why your cookies are flat or fat or look different every time and how to make them a certain way… it’s pretty much GOLD. Everything you want to know about chocolate chip cookies? It’s there. Last Saturday night we made the ultimate chocolate chip cookies annnnnnnnd ate them all by Sunday night.
6. Who else is having the worst allergies of the century? I basically want to rip my head off.
7. OMG MAD MEN. For some reason this week’s episode GUTTED me. I wish I could say more. Have you seen this theory that the whole series is based on DB Cooper? After reading it last week I definitely thought it could be true. But due to the circumstances of this last episode, I can’t imagine it would work. Unless it just makes Don be a bigger piece of crap that he already is. But I still love him. Whyyyy? Like why do we fall in love with jerks like Don, Tony Soprano and Big?!
8. Pitch perfect music video. I can’t even wait.
9. I may just be a weee bit excited that it’s hot dog season. And I might have smothered one in guac this past weekend. LIFE.

I’ve never had allergies until this year and holy hell do they suck. Who knew you could get them at 29?! And the worst part is it is only one sinus cavity. I am constantly tapping as hard as I can on my left cheek bone to try and break it all up. UGH. I LOOOOVE Summer. Why is this happening :(
Sara, I hate to give you bad news, but allergies can change every seven years. :( Mine just keep getting worse. :(
I’ve made this a few times, and the whole thing’s great in a taco: http://www.kalynskitchen.com/2014/08/slow-cooker-green-chile-shredded-beef-cabbage-bowl.html
Thanks so much for sharing my book Jessica!! So thrilled you enjoyed the ultimate chocolate chips :)
ALSO this just made me realize my DVR hasn’t been recording Mad Men in two weeks so I’m pretty devastated
I swear I can buy 3 or 4 things at Whole Foods and it still comes to $50! Ironically enough, I actually tried your fish tacos last week! SO YUMMY!! Was the first time I’d ever beer battered anything – so good!
http://www.howsweeteats.com/2014/03/beer-battered-fish-tacos-with-margarita-mango-salsa-and-jalapeno-crema/
i had plain beef & bean tacos for cinco de mayo but i did make the BEST guac with some pineapple in it !
My allergies kicked in on Sunday. Like i think i know when there arrival was !
I have no trader joes or whole foods anywhere near me. how am i still alive ?
and finally…i feel like i am the only person who didn’t see pitch perfect 1 and really never heard of it !
My allergies haven’t been bad EXCEPT for when I was in Pittsburgh for the marathon two weekends ago. Western PA is home for me, but my allergies have been a zillion times better since I moved away. Weird, right?
I just heard on the news last night that across the country people are experiencing allergy problems (who previously hadn’t before). The pollen counts are way, way up this year.
If you ever come to Minneapolis, you neeeeeeed to have calamari tacos at Sea Salt Eatery. I promise that your Tuesday Things after that will include many capitalized-lettered praises like AMAZING and exclamation points!!!! Plus they have great craft beer options (most made in MN) and fantastic Minneapolis-made ice cream. You’d be in love.
I may have been dreaming about hotdogs at 7:30 am while driving to work today!
Ground turkey,2% Greek yogurt and Paul Newman’s tequila lime Salsa!
The kids never knew it the difference!
Oops…….. forgot the shredded romaine.
Allergies are no good this year! My ear was plugged for a couple of week, finally went to the doctor and she said it was allergies that was causing it. Never had that happen before.
As for tacos, one of our favorites is you cook some Farmer John chorizo in a skillet until it’s crumbly and starts to get crispy. Then you take some steaks and slice them thinly and add it to the skillet, season with salt, pepper and garlic powder, and cook until done. So yummy! Add whatever toppings you want to your taco.
OMG. 4, 6, and 9. Yes, yes, and YES!!
Full disclosure: I have not seen Mad Men. At all. Ever. My excuse is that I had a baby so my tv watching has been super duper limited after she crawled right out of newborn stage. Now that she’s past a year I feel like I can start reclaiming my brain a little bit… BUT I think I am the only person who did not like Big AT ALL. He was such a douche monster I couldn’t even stand it.
Tacos. I didn’t get to have any last week. Making up for it this week with fajitas tonight and then these later: http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2011/03/my-brothers-chicken-tacos/
…and you’ve also reminded me that I have at least 12 Chicago hot dogs in my freezer that must be consumed before I move in less than a month. Challenge accepted.
I seriously debated getting Birkenstocks for several months. I am in desperate need of arch support, so I needed something like this anyway- I wasn’t sure I could embrace the clunkiness. Pinterest photos of Heidi Klum rocking them gave me the confidence to take the plunge. So far, so good! And my husband keeps telling me about (fashionable) people he sees wearing them, so yay!
I love Don Draper as well! I also love Tim Riggins, Big, and other terrible, terrible male characters. Formerly, I worried about this fact quite a bit (that I was always attracted to the biggest jerk of the bunch), but I married a smart, sweet, gentle man whom I love very much. That’s all that counts, right?
YES, to the Birkenstocks. So so comfortable. I have the Gizeh sandal because I feel they are more stylish than the classic 2 strap ones. Love mine.
i am right there with you on Mad Men!! This season is killing me – the fact that it’s ending and I still have no idea of how it will end. The creator, Matt Weiner was on Conan the other night and said that the DB Cooper theory had to be the funniest one he’s heard. So, I guess it’s probably not the likely ending. ALSO, Weiner’s son played Glenn, whose character was based off of Weiner as a kid. Mind blown. I could go on and on…
i’m not a big taco person. Burritos are my jam. The el guapo from El Pelon is by far the best in Boston. Plaintains, crema, steak. It’s all very, very good.
Torchy’s migas tacos for the cure Sunday Morning
With chips and queso of course
And the how sweet eats pork and pineapple enchiladas that I successfully made :)
I have this weird relationship with Mad Men because I kind of hate it but I still have watched the whole series… And that theory is killing me. I really hope that’s how it ends. It would make the whole series better imo.
OMG. I can’t do the birkenstock thing either. Please, just no.
And I want to rip my head off too. The allergies are KILLING me. I’m convinced I have strep, tunnel syndrome, a cold, etc at ALL times.
Um, I don’t care that the frosting is from a can in your photo, I’d eat it straight. I need to pull your cookbook out and make those brownies stat.
And, I’ve almost never liked hot dogs (an occasional stage during adolescence), but lately, I smell a grill and my brain lights up HOTDOGS!!! It’s nuts. Who am I?!
I have basically wanted to rip my head off for the past 2 months. The pollen here has been HORRIBLE!!!!!
I used to think that Birkenstock’s were ugly hippy shoes…and then I bought these at Target:
http://www.target.com/p/women-s-bailey-two-buckle-footbed-sandals/-/A-16544809#prodSlot=large_2_13
They are so comfy (and not so expensive). I later found out that my mom bought the same pair, lol.
Also, made these tacos on cinco de mayo (so flipping good): http://whiteonricecouple.com/recipes/asian-pulled-pork-kimchi-tacos/
I would love for Whole Food to bring their new, cheaper store to me! We only recently had a Whole Foods open right down the street though so I feel like we won’t be getting one :(

My gardening goal is a vertical garden! It sounds so easy and is a such a spacesaver…
I pretty much eat tacos every day, so it’s hard to pick a favorite. Best this week would be migas with extra guac! I also don’t get Birks (or Toms for that matter) but like you my wardrobe consists mostly of neon pink and tutus purchased from the kids department at Target so who am I to judge?
Not into Birkenstocks, but HOT DOGS FOREVER.
I can’t do birks but Chris used to rock them hardcore. All of thee time. They smelled disgusting and basically melted to his feet.
I <3 my Birkenstocks. My boyfriend kept saying how much he loves his. They are pretty much all he wears in the summer months so I broke down and got the Gizeh style. I feel like they are cuter than the traditional ones and they are sooooo comfy!
I absolutely love my birks! I have three pairs at the moment in different styles and colours and I pretty much live in them. They are so incredibly comfortable. Saying that I’m not a huge fan of the classic birks, they seem awfully big and clunky… although my sister can pull them off like nobody’s business. But I can’t ever imagine myself wearing neon or sparkles so we may just be style opposites.
Mad Men was unreal. So depressed the finale is almost here. If Peggy doesn’t get a happy ending but Pete does, I will just not know what to make of the world.
As far as all theories go… I’ve read them all and think this makes sense 100%- you have to read it! Everything clicked.

love all the comments and the taco recipes but no one asked about all that delicious chocolate up top??! what is that and how do i get me some? peace.
AHI TUNA POKE TACO!!!! (on a lettuce wrap!) Yes, yes, yes!
Ugh. Guac-hot dogs sound amazing! This time of year always gets me nostalgic about my family’s hot-diggity-dogger. A toaster for the hot dogs AND the buns. Trust me, it’s the best thing in life during the summer.
The salon I go to has those wall planters. I am in love with them but scared to hang plants on my wall (I fear bugs!) But they sell them online in case you’re interested:

Have a great week!
We had pork belly tacos at the el felix (http://theelfelix.com/#menu) OMG they are my favorite food ever! It’s like sweet and crispy and spicy and the flavor just explodes.. Mouth is watering for them now while I type this.

Do the garden. Fresh herbs right out the door is amazing. And I am always tripping on our pots.
TACOOOOOOS! Oh they were so good I wanted to make them again this week but couldn’t find the pork I wanted. Anyhoo – beer braised pork + sweet chili-lime napa cabbage slaw with mangoes. I pretty much died over the slaw (oh hey, yes it is your recipe) that I’m making it with grilled chicken this week.
Ah – I have seasonal allergies but somehow, even though I live in the tundra, they’re worst between October-March. I’ve been sneeze-free this month, and things just started blooming in Ontario last week. It is so strange.
OMG I can spend so much money in Whole Foods, its the best store ever!! Cannot believe they are coming out with a lower priced store. Hope it’s just as good as the original!!
Best taco? The Papas Y Hongos taco at Verde. Have you been? You must. Their salsa chipotle is stupid delicious.
I was in St Croix in April and had a hot dog with guacamole, bacon, and roasted red pepper relish. Just sayin’ – in case the mood strikes you… ;-)
I’m not quite sure how I feel about birkenstocks… I think they would be cute paired with a super girly outfit to make it more casual or tone it down… but I dunno.
And OMG Pitch Perfect 2. I’m legit counting down the days! <3
Fried avocado tacos with shredded vegetables and crema! You can find it in this online magazine http://issuu.com/lundsandbyerlys/docs/r215_l_b. I made these tacos last night and said to my husband that I thought they were right up your alley! Except for the veggies, of course :) also, I just want to say that this is my first time commenting and I wanted to let you know that you rock my socks off, Jess! yours is the first site I go to whenever I’ve got time to “check in with the girls” (aka read all my fave blogs :) )
I don’t get whats wrong with the birkenstocks. I’ve worn the sandals on and off foreverrrrrr and have the clogs throughout the winter and get compliments on them. I think it just matters how important foot health and comfort is to you along with (honestly!!) they ARENT ugly. They’re just sandals. I think when I see someone wearing shoes that obviously are uncomfortable like CRAZY and BAD for your feet they look kind of desperate. I have heels too, seriously! But i don’t wear them daily.
allergies are making me want to scratch my face with a cheese grater. Haaaalp!!
I made shrimp tacos with mango avocado salsa last friday night and enjoyed them with some coronas. It was magical.
Mad Men has me like, whoa! But please for the love of all things creepy kids, tell me that Little Gene, Betty’s third child, was the same creepy kid that played Abel from Sons of Anarchy!! My second thought was “I wonder if jesscia is getting the heebie jeebies right now?”. what a blast from the past haha!!
Happy Belated Mother’s day!!!!!
I saw the picture of those brownies and began frantically searching for that recipe on your website. Which one is it? They look phenomenal
I thought it was just me! They look totally delicious and no mention anywhere. :(
#3 – banh mi tacos. ripped from the Which Wich sandwich place, so not really authentic. Asian BBQ, Siracha mayo, jalepenos, carrots, cucumbers, cilantro and fried shrimp wrapped with some lettuce in a tortilla. yummy!
What will we do without Mad Men??? The Royals is doing it for me right now. Also, bought the cookie cookbook and love it!
My allergies have been the worst they have been in about 10 years. I am in Western PA as well. I have been miserable.
I joke with my husband that we would be rich if I didn’t so much money on groceries every week…
Last night I made fish tacos (coconut battered and deep fried) topped with miso butter stir fried chive buds and drizzled with sriracha lime greek yogurt sauce. They were heavenly and I will hopefully be making again for the blog…if I can find chive buds again.
That greenish hue of pollen seems to be coating every surface, everywhere and I’m fed up!! So are my sinuses!
Thanks so much for sharing our DIY. I think you could kill it :) We aren’t crafty either and we did it!! Thanks again for the love!
