Tuesday Things.
1. Can you even stand this unicorn-like frosting? Someone teach me this.
2. Last night my phone corrected “caramelized” to “caramel lisps.” ?!?!?!? I don’t know if I’d mind having a caramel lisp.
3. I am so making this mini chocolate mascarpone loaf cake. Been craving it alllll weekend. And mini means you can eat more. YEP.
4. Want to know something weird? You know how I went from hating coffee to loving it? Well… the last two weeks I haven’t wanted it AT ALL. Like the thought has made me sick. What is going on? No, I’m not knocked up. I had one cappuccino this weekend and it was pretty good buuuuut… not dying for it. Whyyyy.
5. Ummm how much do I need this bag in my life?
6. Pretty sure I was stationary-shamed by a Target cashier this weekend at the amount of notebooks in my cart. AND NO I DON’T WANT A RED CARD.
7. Okay okay, most important thing today? MAD MEN finale!! What did you think? I absolutely love love loved it. I thought it (surprisingly) tied everything up and I had really thought we had seen the last of everyone before this episode. I also thought it was fairly realistic. I’ve only rewatched 18 million times. Eeeep. Now I’m majorly depressed that it’s over. My favorite recap is right here and I could not agree more.
8. 5 bedtime routines that make your life easier. Why doesn’t scroll-through-instagran-and-play-on-your-phone-for-45-minutes make the list? <covers entire face>
9. All I want to do is go to Nantucket. I look at the Nantucket hashtag on instagram every single day. I want to move there. GAH.

Scroll through instagram and play with your phone is totally on that list! it’s the favorite activities part, right? ;)
(Also, I really love that “recap” came out as “recipe” in your thought about Mad Men. It’s too perfect.)
These posts always brighten my Tuesdays. Thanks for sharing them! :)
I think for the frosting, you can just using different colors of frosting all in one frosting bag. I often wrap my frosting up in plastic wrap to feed it through the bag and therefore makes for easier cleanup. I imagine you could do the same thing with multiple thinner wraps of frosting all fed through. Or just layer it on the plastic wrap before rolling it up and putting in the bag.
That frosting … I die. I want to swim in it. Bev’s marscapone loaf … aahhmygaaawwdd. It looks so chocolatey and yumm! that bag also needs to be in my closet ASAP
How can you not want a Red Card? Save 5%! You can get the debit version then you don’t have a bill to pay and its amazing.
I am also totally obsessed with Nantucket. Going Labor Day weekend and I don’t want to rush summer but I WISH IT WAS NOW!!
I’ve swirled two colors by filling two piping bags with the colors and then putting them both in a third. i’d assume it would work the same with many colors, but you would probably need a bigger piping bag. i’d try it with a 16″ maybe? so you have room for all those extra bags. it will probably get pretty unwieldy though
or
in the Wilton decorating classes i took, they taught us to paint stripes of color on the inside of the piping bag before filling it, then filling it with icing. the outside edges that touch the color will be swirly then. i’ve never done that outside of class though.
I need to chime in – get a RED Card!!! I’m against store credit cards in general (WHY do people need them??), but you can get the one that links to your debit account. It’s like using your debit card, but you save 5% for doing nothing. Use the Cartwheel app on top of that and it all adds up! I’ve saved $135 in the past year just by using the Cartwheel app alone! It’s worth it if you shop there a ton (which I’m assuming you do). :)
Love your blog! To make that swirly colored frosting, you paint the piping bag. You take a disposable bag, insert your tip and then with a thin piant brush choose complementary colors and paint lines in the bag, from the bottom to almost the very top. If you look at the bag like a clock, you paint at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o’clock. Then, you carefully fill the bag with soft vanilla frosting and frost away. Test it out a little to make sure it looks good. I used to own a bakery and it’s a fun technique that people love.
AMEN to n
AMEN to Nantucket. We went last year and have ever since been planning ways we can live there :)

I really need to catch up on Mad Men! I’m one season from the finale, yikes.
Have you tried any of the almond milk creamers made by Califia Farms? They have regular, vanilla, hazelnut, and pecan caramel (which sounds right up your alley). I could pretty much drink the hazelnut one right out of the carton. When you’re ready to get back to coffee, you should give ’em a shot! :)
Ugh, yes with the red card. EVERY DAMN TIME. NO. I DONT.
And also, as I am from Martha’s Vineyard, I am obligated to say BOOO NANTUCKET! But, realistically, it’s a very nice place. I just recommend MV more ;)
The red card (the debit version, not the credit version) is quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever gotten from Target. Between saving 5% off your entire purchase and free shipping I have save an unholy amount of money. Plus I use the cartwheel app. It gives me so much joy to watch my total drop at the register. Plus you can link your red card to an area school an they donate money there every time you use it.(I do my nieces school since my son is two)
Only downside is that it takes forever and a day to actually come out of your bank account so you have to be diligent about remembering you bought something from target until the charge comes out.
I agree ,get a Debit Red Card. It has it’s benefits…….and rainbow frosting.
Have you been to Nantucket in the winter time? It might change your mind about moving there.
You’re crazy if you don’t have a Red card, Money saved! Why do you not want to save money?!? Ugh, I usually completely get you but I don’t know if I can anymore after this revelation.. ;)
You paint the piping bag to make that frosting. It is not different colored frostings in one bag. Someone else also mentioned it. Take a plastic piping bag and paint it with gel food coloring all the way from the tip to the top and then fill with white frosting. By about 2/3 of the way up, the frosting gets kind of ugly and really white. Also I love Nantucket! I’ve been there a few times! It is super expensive though (my trips were for work so I didn’t pay anything) so maybe plan a Massachusetts trip and just drive up there for the day and drive back to the main land for the night? I don’t know the price on the ferries though. The island is so small though that a car is not necessary in my opinion with bike rentals and lots of taxis to choose from.
Those cupcakes are going to have to go on my Easter list. Super cute!
Also, you’re better off not liking coffee. Your body will thank you. I’m addicted to the stuff.
I have to chime in on the caramel lisps. I’ve actually seen that one before and almost peep my pants laughing so hard. In context it was uber hilarious.
And yes to the frosting and the cake. Duh. Lol
I had a similar thing with coffee!! I loved it so much like a crazy addict, gave it up for lent this past Easter, and I no longer want it! Going out for a latte was my favorite thing, now no more!!! It’s so weird!
So, the red card thing…. if you haven’t signed up for one, DO IT ASAP. There are really no fees, and it’s just a debit card that you save 5% on every time you buy anything at target (even starbucks!!). Its not a credit card at all, there are no interest rates or hidden costs. I usually end up saving a few hundred dollars a year (it tells you the total amount saved on your receipts) which basically means I can spend a few hundred dollars more. No, I don’t work at target but i probably should have been compensated by them for this, haha.
Yes, get a Red card at Target… money back to you, money for schools… it’s pretty straightforward. But no, Have to differ on opinion of Mad Men finale. All those people we’ve never seen before and have no connection with… I was very disappointed. About 2/3 through, I looked at my husband, and we were both saying the same thing… why all the new characters tonight? All seemed a bit forced with some of the relationships… don’t want to give away any spoilers for anyone still waiting to see it… thought it would be much more meaningful, but it is TV land after all.
Get the Debit red card. Just like a normal debit card but you still get the 5% off. Go to their website and sign up or take a check in with you. It’s the best of both worlds!
That UNICORN frosting!!! I can’t even. It’s amazing. <3
I am in serious mourning for Mad Men. I also loved the finale. No more Peggy & Don :(
So much yes on the Mad Men finale and Vulture always has the best TV recaps. If you watch Real Housewives of NYC, I highly recommend that recap too.
I have been obsessed with Nantucket ever since I decided to read every single Elin Hilderbrand book she has ever written. I NEED to go there!!
I have mixed feelings about the Mad Men finale. I thought some of it was too “last-minute, let’s tie things up,” like the love epiphany between Peggy and Stan. But I love the way they handled Betty’s illness and the end of Sally’s childhood as she stepped in to take care of things. Roger and Marie’s wedding was great and I was happy for Pete and Trudy, but I was really hoping that Joan had finally met her match.
I know that Don’s sudden enlightenment at the retreat was the centerpiece of the story, but I just didn’t buy it (though I love the thought that he used it to make the Coke commercial). But I think the real Don would have started over yet again in a new place, doing something new — maybe starting his own agency or even building race cars. Now that would be a happy ending in my book.
how did you not even mention taylor swift’s new music video!?
another chiming in for the redcard debit.. free shipping, extra time for returns, and the discount that stacks on everything else. i got my ipad for 20% off.. 10% cartwheel, 5% coupon, and 5% redcard.
also, that frosting is my favorite.
Ok, I have to say it. WHY wouldn’t you want to save 5% on your Tar-jay purchases instantly? I use my Red Card ALL THE TIME! The best method is to have your items rung up (don’t forget your .05 cent discount for using your own re-useable shopping bags), swipe your Red Card for payment, receiving an instant 5% discount (how easy is THAT “coupon?”) and then walk yourself over to Customer Service and make an instant payment for the amount of your purchase. Voila!
Not even going to get into the other various Red Card and/or Cartwheel app “bennies.” ;-)
Hello!!….5% off with every purchase! How can you go wrong with that?? You can even get a debit card that comes directly out of your checking account instead of a credit card. I’d say it’s a no-brainer!
I’ve been drinking coffee daily since I was a kid. A couple of times in my life I have gone through periods where coffee just didn’t sound good to me and I drink tea to replace the caffeine (total addict here). I don’t know what has prompted it. Maybe too many cups of mediocre coffee in a row spoiling the taste for a while? Or I ODed on caffeine and this was my body’s way of dialing it back? I don’t know. But I have always come back to a place where I crave and truly enjoy a cup of coffee again.
You totally need to get the Red card! You get 5% off every purchase and it’s not a credit card, it’s just linked to your bank account. I know, I sound like the Target employees. haha
Target Red Card Debit Card is the way to go! I , too, frowned upon it until I got it last year. It’s easy. No hassles. Save 5% on every purchase. Just went there this morning to buy a yoga mat.
Adding another vote for getting the Target red debit card – best thing EVER.
I just signed up online for a target debit card….I’m basically throwing away money every time I shop there (which is often!)by not having one. I’m so intrigued with the unicorn frosting!! I’m making cupcakes for my nephew’s 3rd birthday this weekend…they have to be pink, purple and blue to go along with his Frozen themed party. Yes, I said nephew. He’s obsessed with anything pink/purple. I love it.
Pretty pretty cupcakes!!
I literally am just commenting because I’m like what?!? How can you not want a red card? Like others a have said you get 5% off always. There is also the debit card option. Anyway I totally agree with others on the get a red card!
