Tuesday Things.
1. Not only did I not know we had tulipsĀ (must have been planted before we moved in), I didn’t find out until they were covered in snow. Whyyyyyyy.
2. Ummm can we talk about these pool float donuts?! Also, can we talk about how I want to buy all of those pool floats even though I don’t have a pool, just so I can be cool on instagram?
3. The cookie monster + apple outtakes kill me. Just kill me.
4. It’s totally grapefruit beer season, right?! I tried Ballast Point and really wasn’t a fan. My favorite is still Leinenkugel since it tastes like… juice.
5. I’m trying really hard not to eat sugarĀ at night at the moment (seriously between too much caffeine, too little sleep and a still-nursing babe I’ve been dessert-ingĀ ALL THE THINGS late at night) and you’d think I cut my arm off or something.
6. Thoughts on the season finale of Billions?! I loved it so much, albeit a little lacking in fireworks – but Wendy!! She is the best. Axelrod is by far my favorite character next to her… he’s like a slightly better, non-murdering Tony Soprano. And GIRLS? Could there BE a more unlikeable character in the universe besides Hannah? I think not.
7. Is Twitter over for you? Do you still use Twitter? Eddie says he gets his news from Twitter. I get my late night cravings from Twitter.
8. Remember when I forced myself to like coffee? I kind of want to do the same with tea even though it tastes like dirty water. What’s your favorite tea? Deal breaker: if it says it tastes like chocolate fudge, it should taste like chocolate fudge and not dirty water with hints of chocolate fudge.
9.Ā 5 ways to stop limiting your beliefs. I’m a self-help junkieĀ and I love it.

Most of the time, I’m a straight green tea drinker. Love it so much. But another fave is birthday cake from David’s tea. It has sprinkles right in the tea (they are half the fun).
You haaave to try Schofferhofer Grapefruit. I don’t like beer, and it’s incredible. The place where I get it can hardly keep it on the shelf in the summer because it’s that perfect.Ā
(Oops, I realized Tara just suggested it too. I’m here to reinforce her comment!)
Tea: Ā Try lemongrass vanilla tea. Ā so good!
Trying to become a tea drinker too – got this tea kit at teavana and love it! Makes a perfect cup of tea. They mixed up a winterberry blend that I’m enjoying a lot. They also include water temp and steep timeĀ

I hate tea but absolutely love the Pomegranate White Tea and Mint Melange tea from Trader Joes!
Prestogeorge’s in the Strip has the greatest loose leaf tea selection. Ā I highly recommend the mango tango green tea or the tropical green tea. Ā The tropical even has these beautiful little purple flower petals in it. Ā No dirty water taste there at allllll.
You have to try Tetley teas. Ā I buy them right at Giant Eagle. Ā I love both the black & the green teas. Ā Get the ROUND tea bags. Ā They are wonderful. Ā I like some loose teas but they can be complicated. Ā
hey girl love the post! I just adore Tulips! I need to plant some one of these days!Ā
I love grapefruit beer (Southern Tier Live has been one of my favorites this season). I’ve been moving more into berry/tropical fruit beer lately (I’m dying for a week of consecutive warm weather days): Dogfish Head Romantic Chemistry (mango, apricot, ginger), Short’s Love Knife (banana, nectarine, and strawberry), Short’s Soft Parade (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries).
I typically drink matcha, I love that it has it’s own special bamboo spoon to measure it and a special whisk to mix it, it’s nice to have a tea ritual in the morning. You could also try tisane (herbal tea), I love the gingerbread, peppermint lane, and tension tamer tisanes by Celestial Seasonings.
I love Republic of Tea Ginger Peach or almost any brand of Earl Grey. Republic of Tea is my favorite company – their flavors are rich and true to the name (though I can’t vouch for a chocolate fudge flavor). Teavana is my second favorite due to brick and mortar locations. They can blend the loose teas so you get the flavor profile you want.
I hated tea my whole life because of that dirty water taste, but seriously, Teavana’s Winterberry is the best thing I’ve ever tasted. I think it’s a seasonal blend, but the teas they use to blend it are available year-round. Their Wellness Recovery tea is really good, too- green tea with STRONG notes of mint and citrus. For something on the cheaper end, I keep Celestial Seasonings’ Watermelon Lime Zinger at my desk… it tastes like a melted Jolly Rancher!
I need to find this Watermelon Lime Zinger you speak of…
Um, have you tried Harpoon’s Big Squeeze?!?! Ā That grapefruit shandy is TO DIE FOR!
Someone else has probably mentioned this, but you MUST try David’s tea. I love love love it, and they actually have chocolate tea. It’s crazy awesome. My current favorite is called snow day – a perfect chocolate mint (with snowflake sprinkles!). SO SO SO good!
My favorite teas are:
Celestial Seasonings – White Tea – Perfectly Pear (it doesn’t taste like dirty water unless you leave the teabag in it and forget to drink it for a couple hours)
Numi organic tea – Gunpowder Green (for the first week, it tastes sort of like dirty water and then I am addicted to it and it doesn’t taste at all like dirty water, it’s weird, but if drinking it consistently, it tastes good, if you quit and then try and occasional one, it tastes like healthy dirty water)
i love harney and sons tea. Ā if you like cinnamon and i mean really like it you would like their hot cinnamon spice. Ā its very strong and cinnamony but i really like that. Ā i like there other types as well including paris and blue and yellow.
I am a big fan of Tazo’s Apricot Vanilla tea. It is like a refreshing hit of summertime that is lightly caffeinated .
Twitter is so not over! I love Twitter. I think it’s an amazing platform for science communication and I also get a lot of news within my field from it.
YASSSSSS to the Harney and Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice… my ALL TIME FAVE. It is so so so good.Ā
My favorite tea at the moment is the Yogi Kava Stress Relief tea. It’s really flavorful (almost chocolatey). Try it!! :)
I haven’t seen anyone mention my favorite tea: Good Earth Sweet & Spicy! Target carries it!
Try Steigl Radler for your grapefruit beer. It’s like slightly sweet grapefruit juice, very low alcohol, and super refreshing. I’ve started to see it at more stores. It’s also delicious in cocktails (with aperol and tequila, hot dang!).
And I have a serious addiction to tea. Ā I love almost anything by the Republic of Tea – it looks so fancy and most of them are very tasty and its relatively easy to find. Their hibiscus tea (herbal, non-caffeinated) with key lime is totally refreshing, hot or cold, with a slightly sweet and tangy taste. Be careful, other flavors may not be as tasty (ahem, watermelon). Their rooibos teas (red tea, non-caffeinated) are awesome too – my favorites are the Be Gorgeous (it’s a blend in a pink container) and the caramel apple rooibos (so cozy!). Ā I love their green tea with acai too, very tart and best with a splash of lemon juice. Ā Aaaaannnnnd they started producing this line of Sonoma Teas which use wine grape skins to make iced tea. Ā I’ve only tried the cabernet one so far, but it’s so good! Ā You’ll love that there is a rose one!
Just be aware that green tea and chai teas are made by so many different brands, so their quality can vary a ton. I’ve yet to find a chai I truly love and I’m only good with a few green teas. Ā
I am so with you! I have always said tea tastes like dirty water. My mom drinks a honey jasmine tea that always has me trying it. The smell does not match the taste. I want to like it so bad. So many are supposed to be good for you…ugh
Number one- Stiegl Radler is the only grapefruit beer worth drinking.
Number two- Movie Night from David’s Tea got me into drinking tea. Tastes like popcorn! sooo good. Also any of their tea with sprinkles in it. haha.Ā
I like most teas, but recently I’ve been really into “Peach Tranquility”. It’s by Teavana and Starbucks sells the teabags, or they’ll make a cup for you. Add as much honey as you like and you’re good. Ā It has a very peachy flavor. Try it!
I love peach tea as a way to get into tea because it’s fruity and actually tastes like peach. Sometimes I’ll make it at night, add honey and leave it in the fridge overnight so it’s a really crisp and fresh iced tea for the morning. Extra points if you do it in a mason jar because it looks cute that way.Ā
So typical about the tulips, but they look nice (and different from all other photos of tulips) covered in snow. So there’s that.
As for tea…it’s a whole science finding the right one. A lot of the grocery store bought crap literally tastes like nothing but slightly flavoured water, or in the worst case it just tastes kind of bitter but not sour. Just butter. Blergh!
For most tea a dollop of honey really lifts the taste, as does just a hint of milk of your choosing. Without something sweet, and something to gentle the bitter bite, most tea is just…no.
My go to is a nice earl grey. Loose tea, of course, fresh from a tea store with good turnaround. Not the stale stuff they try to sell in grocery stores that smells oh-so-good when you open the bag but loses all its aroma in five minutes flat after the bag being opened.
I rather like Tea Pigs Super Fruit for a caffeine free, bursting with flavour tea. It is not sweet in the least, so I recommend serving it with a teaspoon of honey per cup of water, but oh…it is great hot, on a cold winter evening and great served cold over ice on a hot summer day. It is definitely not your standard, tasteless, dirtied water. It’s more akin to squash, really, except that it doesn’t contain all the nasty preservatives and added sugar and stuff. I imagine children, if sweetened properly with honey, would love this as an alternative to soda in summer. You could probably even make it into a fizzy drink, if you have one of those machines that adds fizzy bubbles to everything.
Avoid chai…I’ve never found a chai worth the name in the tea store. Not even from Kusmi (which makes the best flavoured teas in the world, in my opinion, albeit costing thereafter, too). If you want to try chai, make it yourself with a black tea base and with boiling milk on the stovetop. That’s the only way to have proper chai.
As for green tea…I’m not a fan, generally, because I don’t like the bitter taste. But Imperial by Kusmi is wonderful, because it is so nicely flavoured that you can’t really taste the green tea at all.
Omg yes – GIRLS. Can’t even watch it anymore. Tried to watch the first episode of this new season and it literally pains me to watch Hannah!
I have the tea for you! Ā I swear! Good Earth Sweet and Spicy. It’s the tea that makes non-tea lovers become tea lovers. It’s naturally zingy and sweet without any honey or sugar or milk or anything–full of cinnamon and orange and ginger. IT’S DELISH. (It’s also pretty spectacular to make hot toddies with when it’s chilly out…)
Along those zingy-ginger-y lines, my absolute fave grapefruit beer is Shiner RubyRedbird. THE BEST. It’s usually kinda tricky to find, so when I see it, I buy a bunch of it. (Based on what I know of your taste buds from reading this blog, I feel like you’d be into both too!) xo
