Tuesday Things.
1. How absolutely stunning is this italian orange blossom and almond cake?
2. I’m reeeeallly still considering eyelash extensions but I’m scared that my eyeballs will fall out or something. Also, how does one manage the upkeep when you have a kid?! Tell me how you do it (again!).
3. Here’s a very weird question for you: what do you love to eat for lunch? And leftovers don’t count.
4. How to trick yourself into reading more books. Love this even though I’ve never been able to read more than one book at a time.
5. Speaking of, I just started reading the Hating Game. It’s cute!
6. Okay, I only have two TV things to say things week. WTF NASHVILLE. In full disclosure, I was about three episodes behind on my DVR, but chose last week to just watch it live. OMG. I really don’t think I will ever watch again. I’m not in it for the sadness. Second: This Is Us! Ugh! It killed me. I love Sterling K Brown so, so much. He might be my favorite actor right now. And did you see him go live on Facebook right after? Tears.
7. We are alllllmost finished photographing the book recipes, but in the meantime I’ve set my candles aside (I’m def a crazy candle lady… not to be confused with a crazy cat lady) and have been diffusing some grapefruit or lemon oil at night and some peppermint in the morning, in order to get rid of all the crazy food smells. It’s perfect and I’m obsessed.
8. One thing I can’t get behind is the sweet potato toast idea. Strips of sweet potato with your regular toast toppings? I can’t do it because I need the regular toast texture.
9. What dresses did you love on the red carpet? My faves were Brie Larson, Emma Stone, Taraji P Henson, Chrissy Teighan and Michelle Williams. I can’t pick! And I thought Jessica Biel looked amazing, which is right on par with everyone else saying her dress was the worst.

I love salads for lunch. They’re usually quick and easy and since I’m running around most of the day, I can just pop them out of the fridge and eat either at my desk really quickly or take them somewhere with me.

Lunch: avocado toast, egg scramble with sautéed veggies, salads with hard boiled eggs, soup and toast.Â
How was the gender reveal party? What did they do to reveal? I want to keep the gender a surprise until the big day but love the idea of these parties.Â
Oh my gosh!! It was SO fun. They are having a girl! We are so freaking excited. I’m going to buy out all the adorable girls clothes I see, haha!
I love your Tuesday posts, they are some of my favorites! Â As far as lunch goes, lately I’ve been pretty basic lately with my Greek yogurt + berries and then a slice of avocado toast. Â Not exactly inspired suggestions I know. :/Â
I’ve been on a yogurt parfait kick again too! I’ve been loving the noosa lemon.

this is us killed a part of me last week. my hubby, as i’m ugly sobbing my eyes out, literally looked at me and goes “uh, you gonna be ok?” HA! lunch during the week needs to be easy to throw together & pack, but weekend lunch is a whole different story. i love a beautiful fresh salad (lately my go to is arugula, goat cheese, roasted mushrooms, & artichokes) & perhaps a glass of wine…it’s the weekend after all!
that salad sounds so good!
I’m super boring with lunch. Its reheated grilled chicken and a veggie steamer package for the weekdays. I have no problem eating the same thing for lunch on a weekly basis. I try to change up the spice blends on the chicken weekly.
On the weekends we normally have more of a brunch. Sweet potato hash with bacon and onions under 3 eggs over medium and some avocado or guac!
i love having more of a brunch too!
I’m really intriguing by #7 & the oil diffusers! What do you use? I feel like I go through candles soooo fast because I love a little cozy fragrance, but am looking for some other options!
i think i’ll always be a crazy candle user (I love apple + cinnamony + vanilla-y scents and all that), but the oils are really working to eliminate crazy food odors! i have some oils from whole foods (I can’t remember the brand!) and even a few from target (aura cacia, i think?), and the diffuser i have is just young living because my friend uses it. there are much cuter diffusers on amazon though!
You should try a lash lift/lash perm if extensions freak you out! I’m wary of extensions (I can’t even do falsies) but I got a lift about 6 weeks ago and mine still look super long and curly, plus as my new lashes grow in I’m getting that double-lashed Liz Taylor look and I’m DYING over it!
That sounds so pretty! Do you have thick lashes to begin with?
i’ve thought about this, but my lashes and so short and straight to begin with that i don’t even know if it would be worth it?!
Was just going to comment and say this. I really don’t think you need long lashes for it to have a great effect.Â
i’ve been intrigued by lash extensions too, but oil skincare doesn’t mix with them and I love me all my face oils. related–no makeup favs this month??
I end up reading a few books at a time–one audiobook for commutes, one for bed time, and one for waiting rooms on my phone. The third one is probably too much since the waiting book has been languishing for like 2 years–i think i just dont like it and dont want to quit it haha.
that’s one of the reasons i have been holding out too… i love oil cleansers and use face oils daily. i feel like i’d ruin them immediately. and yes, my beauty faves are coming this week!
When I took my son to his doctor, I noticed she had no eyelashes…all of her eyelashes fell out with the extensions …some are allergic to the glue, you never know.Â
DO NOT get eyelash extensions haha They only look good for the one second after you’ve completed brushing them and before you blink. They rip out your real eyelashes, look ratchet AF when grown out and do more damage then good in the long run. Please don’t!
Also This Is Us is my all time fav! Love love love love love and I tell everyone to get on board with it!
AGREED!Â
GAH. I wear false singles on the outsides of my eyes and have for 10+ years, so I know I’m doing damage anyway. So torn!
Agreed! I got them over the holidays and when I took them out 3 weeks later, I literally had lost so many lashes and the ones I did have were like 2 cm long. It was the saddest thing. Thankfully they have all grown back now (with the help of some expensive eyelash serum) but I really don’t think I’ll ever do it again!
I agree with your thoughts about Nashville. I had no clue what was about to happen as I had seen Connie Britton on some talk show after the show was picked up by CW. She said she was excited about the new season, new writers and new direction and was committed to the show. I am not sure I want to continue to watch…just won’t be the same without Rayna and Deacon to frame to show.
I use a product called Rapid Lash on my eyelashes. It actually makes your lashes grow longer…really. I had my doubts as it talked a few months to see the results but once it happens , it is very noticeable. My esthetician was the first to mentioned it…she noticed the difference from one month to the next. I also use mascara called “They’re Real ” by Benefit…a couple of applications makes a huge difference.
i hate being the person saying “i’m not watching anymore!” but i’m just not interested enough in the other storylines to continue watching. and i don’t want to face the sadness of the rest of the season. also, i just hate how they did it. i read an interview where they said they had to kill her off because she would never leave her family (true, i get it) but another accident? ugh. i guess there was no good way!
Lunch: roasted sweet potato with black beans on top. I just microwave canned black beans (rinsed) with a little olive oil, cumin, etc. So tasty.
give me some cheese and i’m all over this!
agreed about sweet potato toast! it’s not toast! I don’t love lunch because half the time I still want breakfast but think I should eat “food” but never really know what I am in the mood for. I end up often with a simple pb & j.
i love pb and j… but only on toast! haha.
Lash extensions are hard to keep up! Every two weeks? Yikes. I struggle and I work in a spa! I do like the lash lift. It lasts 6 weeks so that’s do-able for a mom.Â
For lunch I am big on making an apps platter – cheese, leftover chicken, crackers, grapes, nuts, veggies. Or egg sandwiches. I should do that today….
what do they use for the last lift?! heat? that scares me more than extensions!
It’s  not scary! They kind of perm them. It takes an hour and they look so pretty when they’re done!  (And you just lay there with your eyes closed. I usually snooze! ?
I sooo want eyelash extensions. They’re gorgeous… just darn pricey.
i knoooow.
You need to try Roda + Fields Lash Boost if you are considering lash extensions. Â It’s amazing. Â We can chat at music Thursday. Â Much easier to keep up with especially with kids!Â
ahhh! yes yes, let’s talk about it. i’m just scared of it changing my eye color?
Love love lash extensions. If you use a lash serum like Latisse with them your own lashes will stay healthy and grow faster and longer. For me, they’ve been amazing. Love being able to look like I have makeup on with none. Used to go every 2 weeks, now every 3. It’s 75-90 minutes every 3 weeks in exchange for not having to put a drop of makeup on the rest of those 3 weeks which is a great trade for me :) Some people can get it done in an hour but I like thick, tons, heavy, lots so it takes a little longer. Do it!
i agree with this! i am afraid to use latisse because of the eye color changing possibilities (it’s only with light/blue and green eyes right? and i have green.) – did you notice anything?? if i could go 3 weeks for sure with extensions, i’d be all over it.
I really liked The Hating Game! Sally Thorne’s new book comes out this summer I believe.
My adult roommate (a/k/a my 25 year old son) watched This is Us for the first time a few weeks ago and while I’m crying (which I do during EVERY episode) he joked and said “This show really gets to you, huh, mom?!” — I replied “You don’t even know….” GAH! All the emotions….
Bring on the lunch recommendations. I did salads for months, then “veggie power bowls”, and now I’m onto wraps. I’m running out of ideas!
this is my first book by her and i’m really liking it!
I LOVED The Hating Game. Super adorable but funny and smart with a strong female. I would totally recommend Act Like It by Lucy Parker too.
awesome! thanks!!
I have extensions and LOVE them! I don’t have kids but I DO have a super active lifestyle. They are the best – total vanity – and I get compliments all the time! A little itchy when I got the initial set, but benadryl or something similar took care of it!
tmi question… haha – do you sweat a lot when working out? i fear mine will run off my face while i work out. ha!
That may be the best question I’ve had all week (and I’m a teacher!). I do sweat a ton (because of the lashes, I try to have a fan on my face). Any sort of oil on the face is an issue for longevity. My real lashes aren’t ruined at all! My lady recommends a Lattisse type of serum product to help grow stronger, longer natural lashes (and keep them healthy), too.
I would stay away from lash extensions, but Latisse is amazing (and Royal Lash for a fraction of the price and does the same thing)!
curious about it but afraid it will change my natural eye color??
I did a ton of research before I tried it and I don’t think there was ever any actual evidence that it happens. It’s more likely that the base of your eyelashes and eyelid can get irritated and red but even that is rare. I tried Latisse for a year and then switched to the generic Royal Lash which has been awesome. I just buy disposable brushes from Amazon which work great. A lot of my friends have tried it too with amazing results. My eyelashes are almost twice as long now! :)
Hoping more people comment about lash extensions. I have a daughter the same age as Max and I despise the time it takes to apply mascara on a daily basis, but not sure I can keep up with the maintenance for extensions either!
I got them about 2 months ago and LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE them! Seriously, I wake up and feel NO need to put make up on at all. I did a TON of research to find a local person w/ great reviews ( yelp, beauty sites, facebook) and had a phone call with her prior to appointment. The first time I waited 3 weeks before my fill. They looked a little sparse but still better than my natural lashes. I now go every 2 weeks. (50$). Is it cheap, no.. but they are my eyes, so I am not looking for cheapest. I have been very happy and will keep them up for the foreseeable future. Others have recommended Latisse and Rapid Lash.. honestly, the commercial where it says you may go blind or your eyes change color kinda freak me out. They both have there plusses and minuses I guess
thanks ashley!!! i am very scared of the eye color change thing with latisse. ha!
yes adrienne, this is my main question! while i know that i could get a babysitter for max every 2 weeks, that is just such a frequent chunk of time that i could fill doing other things while having someone watch him.
Yeah, I accidentally saw a Nashville spoiler before I watched and have now just completely stopped the show… I was so excited when the season started but the last few episodes had annoyed me and now I’m just over it.
With reading I can’t read more than one book at once and I find it almost impossible to not finish a book no matter how boring I find it, I’m a weirdo I guess.
As for lunches, I absolutely love to make quinoa bowls because I can change them up to be whatever I’m feeling at the moment.
ugh the episode killed me! and i was so caught off guard since i hadn’t see that she was leaving… there were like 5 minutes left and i’m like… okay, she is not dying, she IS the show! then boom.
I need to know what oil burner you use and where you get the oils!Â
I roasted Brussel sprouts yesterday and my family wanted to vomit from the smell! I lit candles and opened the windows and the smell would not go away! I just made a double batch of pumpkin bread to get rid of the smell. I think it worked ;)
i got most of my oils from whole foods! i first found them there when i was pregnant with max and have since got a few more. i’ve got some at target too. i know a lot of people get them on amazon (eden’s garden i think?). the diffuser i have is just a young living one because my friend is using it. i’m not really interested in getting into MLM companies, but i know lots of people like the young living/doterra oils.
Oh Nashville. We were all so excited it came back then boom! I am so disgusted and don’t think I can watch again either. This is Us wrecks me. Such good writing and acting. Have you stopped Homeland because it just got good again! I am so bored with lunch I actually made PB&J old school all last week just so I didn’t have to think about it lol. As for the extensions I have not gotten, but I hear they are high maintenance. I just had my eyebrows microbladed and that’s enough for me in that dept. Lots of good suggestions your comments though!
i am so, so sad about it!
That cake is just soooo gorgeous!

i know right!
I have been really into chickpeas lately at lunchtime. I recently have started making some “marinated chickpeas”, tossing them with olive oil, lime juice, chili powder etc (inspired by your most recent stuffed sweet potato recipe!), and will sometimes just eat them with a spoon. Or top a salad or soup…it’s really good with a curry! Or a Brussels sprouts, potato hash situation with a fried egg.Â
oh yes! i love marinated chickpeas so much too!
Everything sounds great – I love this style of post! x

thanks izzy!
Eyelash extentions. I would love this, but I have a friend who hated them. I may look into it some more as well.
On lunch. Leftovers are always the go to, but I’m really more of a snack type of person for lunch. I’ll have a salad or soup and an hour later a handful of nutty trail mix. Another hour later I’ll have a hard boiled egg or a piece of fruit.

I’ve had lash extensions and they were hard to keep up with!! Looked amazing for a day or 2 but after that not worth the time or cost. I’ve been using Rodan and Fields Lash Boost since December and my eyelashes are longer, darker, and fuller looking! Double what they were before. I can show you some results..I think you’d love it!!! $130 every 2-3 months vs $120+++ every 2 weeks! Simple simon ;) lets get you some!!!
does the lash boost come with a warning that it can change your natural eye color like latisse does? i’m way too afraid of that!
Nooooo to lash extensions. Â They look so fake and creepy.Â
My weekday lunch tends to be leftovers (I literally pack my lunch before sitting down to dinner) OR turkey and cheese roll ups, crackers, carrots and seasonal fruit (oranges right now!) I’m basically 5Â
Essential oils are AMAZING!! And so powerful, too! I know this website isn’t glamorous but the oils are 100% pure, it’s a small business, and the prices are amazing. She also offers a lot of variety for oils beyond what is listed online–an email and she’ll provide a much more extensive list, along with the benefits.
http://bonitanaturals.com/Essential-Oils_c6.htm
thanks jena rose!
Also really great source for oils: Solum and Herbe
Now that I know what happens on Nashville I am prepared, so no need to worry about the spoiler!
Which brand of diffuser and oils do you like best? Give us all the details!
i don’t really have a brand preference! especially since i just use a few of them (i’m really not consistent and just love them for their odor eliminating capabilities). i found my first ones at whole foods and i know a lot of people like the eden’s garden ones on amazon. as far as diffuser, i just have a young living one because my friend is using that, but there are really cute ones on amazon!
No to lash extensions – yes to Rodan +Field LASH BOOST. It’s your real lashes and within 4 weeks you see a difference. No comparison in cost either. 100% works and lashes don’t look clown like – because they are yours.Â
They even look good after the ugly cry from This Is Us.Â
I also agree you should try Rodan + Fields Lash Boost. I DO NOT sell it but I bought it in November and it. Is. Amazing. I have actually been stopped by strangers who have asked me where I get my fake eye lashes. Â It takes about 6-8 weeks to see results but it is soooo worth it. I’m happy to send you pictures of my before/after using it. Such a huge difference and I love it!!!
YESSSSSSSSSSSS to Lash Extensions!! yes yes yes!! While I haven’t tried Latisse or the other products, the warning labels scared me enough. Eventually I may try it but right now I am very happy w/ my extenstions. I did a TON of research on who to go to for them. I steered clear of the “lash bar” type shops and chose someone who has been doing this for several years. Her reviews were stellar and she is meticulous. Waking up in the AM w/ amazing lashes is worth it. I get fills every 2 – 2.5 weeks. Are they a little sparse by 2.5 weeks, yes. Do they still make an impact even though they are more sparse – YES! They haven’t ruined my natural lash. I am careful when washing my face and pat dry my face. I still use my eye creams. Seriously… LOVE THEM w/ no complaints
Nashville-feel betrayed-wouldn’t have started watching again if I thought this was going to happen-why bother-seems like they could have come up with a better solution since she wanted to move on.
Sterling K. Brown-perfection!
Eyelash extension-friend had them-convenient but I do think they looked kind of weird. My daughter has been using Rodan and Fields last booster-not a commercial-and her’s have really improved so I think I will go that way.
Lunch-salad everyday-leaves me wiggle room to eat something else later and I like not having to think about it and getting my veggies. I chop everything up a couple times of day, grill some chicken, have salmon, cheese, black bean burger, egg, make a vinaigrette, etc. and I am set.
Taraji P Henson was stunning, that cake is crazy, love your blog!
Nashville was such a disappointment. I had hoped when CMT took over we’d get more great music. Not at all what happened. I have been complaining for weeks about the unbelievable story lines–Scarlett sleeping around and Juliette in church??? Fingers crossed the new Sun Records is going to be great!
Your eyelashes are so pretty in your pics I thought you already had extensions! I’d stay away from them, they can hurt your natural lashes…I’ve used Latisse for the past 3 years and I LOOOOVE it. A little more of a time investment ( you’ll see results in about 6 was) but so worth it. My eyes and eyelids have never changed color. P.s I also ditched my candles and scentsy this month in favor of oils. Feels so much healthier when you have babes in the house!
For lunches I like making my own little copycat starbucks bistro boxes – usually a hardboiled egg with s&p, crackers with cheese, an apple and peanut butter, carrots and celery and then some almonds, dried cranberries and dark chocolate chips mixed together. You get protein, fruit & veg, carbs and a little something sweet at the end ;) Lots of different flavours so lunch doesn’t get boring, and waaaaaay cheaper than buying them every day from sbux.
And I agree with you on the eyelash extensions! I want them but they freak me out! How do they work? How do they come off? When do you know they’re at the end? Ah!!
On the subject of lash extensions. I had them for over a year (no kids though so, keep that in mind) and I loved loved loved waking up on the morning and only needing a tinted moisturizer. And glaming up for date nights or other events made me feel even more glamorous. Buttt I ultimately decided to stop because the up-keep was so hard. The set backs of having to be careful in the water and washing my face and sleeping were annoying in the moment but quickly forgiven when I looked at myself in the mirror. Having to go sit still for an hour to an hour and a half every two or three weeks about killed me. I would just sit there and list all the things I needed to do that day and I never found that hour relaxing.
I got eyelash extensions about 9 months ago. Your eyeballs will not fall out, but you must commit to regularly scheduled maintenance. Recommended is every two weeks; I go every three weeks. It is a weird thing–tape that close to your eyes—someone touching your eyes for an hour—but I do like that I NEVER have to wear mascara, and for the most part, my lashes always look great. Unless you have a regular childcare arrangement, I wouldn’t do it. You absolutely can’t have a toddler running around during your appointment!
I’ve been waiting to hear your thoughts on Nashville! I watched it a oitcan hour after it aired and I hadn’t heard any of the rumors that Connie was ready to move on. Do I was completely and totally dumbfounded when that episode ended. Like what the eff just happened?! It was slightly traumatizing actually! I had to watch it again to get my mind to stop replaying that death scene. I’ll watch this week’s episode but I doubt I’m going to stick with it. It won’t be the same without Rayna and I loved that she and Deacon were finally happy.Â
i loved taraji p hensen ! i liked jessica biels dress but did not like her makeup/hair. and halle berry seriously how does she not age at all ?
as far as lunch….i eat leftovers or a salad every single day at work. im eating leftover soup now reading your blog :)
and nashville…should i not watch ? i haven’t watched since cmt
Before you consider lash extensions, check out Lash Boost from Rodan & Fields. You can see more information about it on my website at https://rhearsey.myrandf.com/. It is LIFE CHANGING! In 4 weeks, I noticed a difference and after using it for 8 weeks, my lashes are out of control!!!! You will love it, I promise!!!
I gave my lunch game a makeover. Why is lunch the hardest meal?? I’ve been hooked on these turkey taco lunch bowls. http://sweetpeasandsaffron.com/2017/01/turkey-taco-lunch-bowls-meal-prep.html
I can’t get on board with putting sweet potatoes in my toaster. I just can’t. It’s unnatural.
I have been loving breakfast tacos for lunch! Eggs, cheese, cilantro, and hot sauce on a corn tortilla has been totally hitting the spot! I am also super duper beet obsessed at the moment and LOVE toast with hummus and sliced beets on top. Random but delicious!
At first when I transitioned to working from home I thought, sweet, homemade lunches everyday. And then you get caught up in work or laundry or just about anything else. So I plan as I would dinners and make the same thing everyday for one week for lunch (and then switch it up the next week). Typically cycling through quiche and veggie slices. beef stew, tuna with cheese, slivered almonds and a balsamic vinaigrette instead of mayo and pepper slices for scooping, cereal, smoothies, or shredded chicken, green beans, mini potatoes with almonds, cranberries, and tzatziki with pretzel crisps for scooping it up.
Nashville – WHAT.THE.HECK? If she was gonna die couldn’t the stalker have done it? Like made him crazy instead of mildly troubled and looking for attention? I hate swearing off shows and maybe will stick with it because I can’t imagine another season after this, but it has a relatively small cast and Rayna is kind of at the center; why would I keep watching after she’s gone? It’s not like killing someone on Grey’s Anatomy but there’s 27 other doctors, so we good. And yes, This Is Us is masterful and brilliant. Are you watching Big Little Lies? So good.
I also recommend Rodan + Fields LASH BOOST. It is an amazing product and it does NOT change your eye color. It goes on just like liquid eyeliner and you only apply it at night before you go to bed, so it can work its magic while you sleep. I’d be more than happy to help you get your hands on some! courtneyschaneville.myrandf.com
