My daughter is a competitive gymnast and broke both elbows in November 2016 which ultimately led to two separate surgeries in March and May. My favorite memory of this year was watching her defy all of the odds, fight her way back and complete her floor routine at the first intrasquad meet of the season exactly one year from the day she was injured. It resulted in an unexpected ugly cry for me but I will remember that moment of joy and pride for the rest of my life.

My favorite memory for 2017 was my little sister donating a kidney to our little brother and I was able to be in town to witness this gift of love and have the pleasure of taking care of them both after surgery.
