March Favorites: Beauty.
Hellllo best time of month!
I have the most boring beauty favorites ever for you this month! Just a few things, but things I’m reeeeally loving. Seriously.
One of the reasons things are so boring is because I’m using and adoring every single thing in my favorites post from last month. Every single thing!
Next month, I’ll probably have some great travel faves because I’ll be traveling for my book tour and also wearing more makeup.
So okay, onto this month!
Benefit Gimme Brow. OMG OMG OMG, thank god it is BACK! I tried everything under the sun that you guys told me to try. All the products that were similar. NOTHING worked like the Gimme Brow. The Essence brow came very close – I agree with you. Super close. But just not close enough for me to switch. The Essence formula was inconsistent in quality and would go on patchy. The brown shade was also just… different. I don’t know how else to explain it, but it was an odd shade. It applied so inconsistently that I couldn’t ever love it 100%. As soon as I saw that Gimme Brow was back, I bought five of them like a complete psycho.
Le Volume de Chanel Mascara. Um, OMG. I absolutely love this. I bought this when Nordstrom did one of their buy 2, get 1 free mascara promos because I’d heard great things about it. I don’t have much other Chanel makeup and rarely even find something I’m interested in. I ran out of my Stila Huge Lash and had this on hand – fell in love almost the instant I opened it. It’s AMAZING! I usually prefer lengthening mascaras but I find that this one does length and volume perfectly. It’s great. And remember back in the day when I first started my beauty posts and was in love with the YSL color mascaras? They have them in this too. And I want them!
RMS Buriti Bronzer. I am officially obsessed with all things RMS. I am still only using the luminizer and when I saw this, I knew I had to try it. I LOVE it. It is so super natural and works great even on my very pale, cool-toned skin (where most bronzers tend to look orange). I love cream or gel products since I have dry skin, and this is just awesome. It does require a bit more work than a powdered bronzer, but that’s probably just a learning curve for me right now.
Dr Jart Premium BB Balm. This is something I’ve raved about for years, but used to only wear in the summer. I brought it out because I’ve wanted a little more coverage for book events and just don’t want foundation. I’ve already gone through an entire one and just ordered a new one. Sometimes I wear it alone, sometimes I mix it with the Complexion Rescue (which is my daily go-to) and I think the color and formula is wonderful.
Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom Cologne. I know I talk about this often but it’s the scent I can’t stop wearing right now. I find that it’s perfect for this time of year – still sort of warm with a slight hint of floral. I absolutely LOVE this scent!
Redken Hot Sets 22 Heat Protectant Spray. Yes, I realize that I talk about a new hair product like this every few months. It’s because I usually buy whatever my stylist is loving at the moment. And he used this on my hair while I was there… and it’s awesome. First, I got like 6ish inches of my hair chopped off. I’ve been using a curling wand more often (when my hair was super long, a wand wasn’t holding the curl) and spray this on it before. It holds the curl SO well. And it’s not crispy or crunchy. It might get a little crunchy if you spray too much, but you can easily brush is out. I’m obsessed. I like this a little better than the Memory Mist that I have been using!
There it is… concise, a little boring, and all things I’m adoring. I can’t wait to hear what you’re loving this month! I have my eye on a Tom Ford perfume (Neroli Portofino! – but do I have to get the expensive one or can I get the auqua version!?) and also just got this Jet Lag mask to try!
Also guys! I bit the bullet and finally got lash boost. Because I am thisclose to getting lash extensions even though I saw that all the time. I figured I would try it and see! Just came today soooo… next month we will know! Eeeek.
{as usual, none of this is sponsored and all of these products were purchased by me. i am not affiliated with any of the companies above, nor do i accept free products. just love to talk about what i like, makeup junkie to makeup junkie. there are some amazon and general reward style affiliate links above. thank you for being here!}

I bought the RMS luminizer after your last post and have been loving it! I bought the Tom Ford Orchid Soleil perfume after getting a sample from Nordstrom and I absolute adore it and always get tons of compliments! It’s the perfect balanced scent!
isn’t it the best!! ahhh and i LOVE the orchid soleil!
Jessica, i DIE for your beauty posts every month! One question for you—I LOVE the bare minerals complexion rescue, but my problem is that i am having trouble finding the right shade. What shade do you use? Do you switch up shades based on season or wear the same one? Thanks!!!
thanks allison! i use the vanilla shade. i haven’t had to change it up in the season – because i’ve usually always wore the dr jart in the summer! i try not to get any sun on my face but i do use self tanner, so i need something slightly darker. but even the vanilla blends in pretty well! it’s such light coverage!
You will LOVE lash boost!!! If anyone wants to give it a try, email me: laura.hoffman83@gmail.com!
i can’t wait!!
Love these posts! If you have any good self tanner recs, please share!
thanks amy!! i swear by st tropez. have used it for years!
I bought the Jo Malone mimosa & cardamom scent over a year ago after you recommended and it’s all I wear now. I used to wear DG light blue (like every day since college) and now I don’t think I can go back! My skin has been a mess (tone, texture, and hormonal acne) since about 6 months postpartum (I’m now 13 months pp) and I’ve been trying a bunch of different stuff but am avoiding BHAs because of nursing. I just got a glycolic peel from Murad to try because it’s just glycolic and not salicylic acid. I’m sure it will be magic :-P
you have to keep me posted on how it is!!
Update: the Murad peel wipes were great – but only 16 in a box for $44. I got the pixi glycolic peel pads from target to try a budget brand and they’re not so great. I think I am going to try some drunk elephant products – both the day and night serums. I’ve read great things (from you and several others).
I was also looking through your beauty favorites posts trying to find body sunscreen recs. Are you still using the super goop? Thank you!!
I have been in love with the Jo Malone Mimosa and Cardamom perfume since I purchased it on vacation. I. Love. It. It smells so clean and I’ve gotten many compliments on it! I absolutely love reading your blog!! 😍
it’s the best!! thanks lori!
I am 3 weeks into LashBoost ! I heard it takes 6 weeks so I’m not so patiently awaiting some results!
ooooh i can’t wait!
My advice is to KEEP GOING -even if you don’t think you see results with LB and take progress pics! I’m 12 weeks in and my lashes are insane. I kept rubbing them with makeup remover the other night because I thought I still had mascara on…but nope. My (formerly VERY BLONDE) lashes just really are that long and dark now! It’s so good. Little goes a long way, so tube should last you a good while. I even occasionally forget to apply and still saw results.
I love Chanel Beauty items and this particular mascara is fantastic. It delivers such great results.
Also, I’ve hears so many great things about RMS Beauty. I guess I should finally give in and order some goodies. Thank you for sharing your favourites!

looove all things RMS!
I have been using the Dr Jart premium BB beauty balm for years too! Absolutely love it. I’m intrigued by the Bareminerals complexion rescue though. Would you say the coverage is lighter or heavier than the Dr Jart?
love that! complexion rescue is much lighter than dr jart. i love it though!
Did Benefit change the brow stuff at all, or is it the same? I have been using it for a couple of years and love it. So happy it’s back but wondering…
it’s the same! at least as far as i can tell!

When I saw Gimme Brow was back I almost messaged you on Instagram because I was exactly like you. I tried what everyone else recommended and I still felt like it wasn’t close enough.
So happy it’s back!
for me this month i dont really have any new products im loving other than cerave face wash (thanks to someone here for reminding me how much i loved it). BUT…i have something else sorta weird. for years i have showered, then did makeup, then dried hair. my theory was hair would partially air dry making it easier to dry overall. plus once i started putting serums, creams, etc on why stop…why not just keep going with the face and have wet hair i can hold away from face easier. well…a few friends told me they do the opposite. hair then makeup. so i mixed it up. which for me was a HUGE deal. so far i am liking the change. yes it takes forever to dry wet hair but my makeup goes on better. i think this is because after my shower i am putting on my creams, etc then doing hair. this allows all the creams to soak in properly. cuz who has time to put something on, wait 2 mins, put something on, wait 2 mins, etc ? i realize for some this is not a big deal but for me it was super different. i am a creature of habit so messing with my morning routine was fun.
Lash Boost is the real deal. I finally bit the bullet about 6 weeks ago and with ONE coat of mascara I look like I’m wearing false eyelashes. (No eyelash curler, and I don’t even dunk the wand back in the tube between doing each eye – just one coat.) And this is coming from a girl with pretty stereotypical asian eyelashes to begin with – straight, no lift/curl, not terribly long, just very dark. My lashes look great bare, too, but they look INSANE with that one coat of mascara.) I get so many comments and it’s only 6 weeks in. My mum even bought it based off my results at 5 weeks!
Think you’re going to be so glad you did it. Please please please post before/after photos! xx
