February Favorites: Beauty.
Hello hello! Can’t believe we’re here again!
Such a short month and it FLEW by. I have a few new favorites from the month and few oldies but goodies that I adore. I wore makeup a lot more this month that I have in awhile – well, since the beginning of the year when I resolved to really GET READY every single day! Not tons of makeup, but at least the basics!
In good news, I also heard that Benefit Gimme Brow might be coming back next month? I hope! I have tried everything everyone has suggested and nothing is exactly like the product. I did try the Essence version and it’s VERY close… but not exact.
What else?! I’m still obsessed with the RMS luminizer. It is all I’ve used to highlight. If you’re looking to grab one thing, that should be it! Otherwise, here are my major February faves below. Can’t wait to hear what you’re loving. Woohoo.
Marc Jacobs Eye Conic Palette in Glambition. This is one of the palettes that I got back during the VIB sale and it’s become my go-to quick makeup when I actually put on real makeup. Like when I don’t have tons of time to do eyeshadow, but want something a little more. These colors are SO pretty! And I love how buttery and smooth the shadows are. It’s the kind of neutral palette that I love.
Peter Thomas Roth Hyaluronic Cloud Eye Patches. A bunch of you recommended the cloud cream from Peter Thomas Roth and while I haven’t grabbed that yet, I did get these eye patches and love them so far, despite only using them twice. I’m a sucker for anything with hyaluronic acid. I usually use the Skyn Iceland eye gels, but love how these come in a jar. I only use them for special occasions or when we are filming or something. Love love love.
MAC Patrick’s Powder. I finally ran out of the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder (which is the ONLY powder I ever use on my face other than blush/bronzer) and it’s what I set my concealer with under my eyes. I use just the lightest touch. I decided to try this instead and it’s perfect because it’s so pink! My skin is super cool toned and very very pink and this just blends in perfectly. Also sets the concealer really well. This contained is gigantic.
Oribe Apres Beach Spray. I love having a beachy waves spray on hand and this is the newest that I grabbed. I wanted a travel size so I can take it with me on book tour adventures. A little goes a long way but it doesn’t leave your hair feeling like straw. Really liking it!
MAC Fix+ Coconut! Oh my gosh – I wanted this SO badly when it was limited edition last year because I adore fix+ and adore coconut. So glad they brought it back and in large sizes. I’ve only been using it for a week but it’s just as great as the original.
Caudalie Moisturizing Toner. This is a toner that I’ve used for years, but I’ve been using it religiously morning AND night, with exfoliating cotton rounds (those are key!) and I’m convinced that it’s the reason, combined with the skincare I mentioned last month, that my skin tone is so even right now. This is such a comfortable toner and often what I will also use to cleanse my face in the morning when my skin is really dry.
Glossier Cloud Paint. This is still the ONLY Glossier product that I like. But wow – do I ever love it. Since buying it, it’s the only blush I’ve worn every single day. I’ve grabbed nothing else! Love it so much. This is the color Puff.
Annnnd that’s a wrap. Curious to hear what you think of the Too Faced festival/unicorn line! I’m obsessed with looking at it but don’t think I’ll get any of it. If I was 21… maybe. What else are you loving this month? And what are you looking forward to in Spring?
{as usual, none of this is sponsored and all of these products were purchased by me. i am not affiliated with any of the companies above, nor do i accept free products. just love to talk about what i like, makeup junkie to makeup junkie. there are some amazon and general reward style affiliate links above. thank you for being here!}

I picked up a sample of the dr Jart cicapair tiger grass cream and the caudalie moisturizing toner since reading your January post. I’m loving the tiger grass cream on days where I go no makeup and just pop a little concealer under my eyes with this and a spritz of tatcha dewy skin mist and it really does work to get rid of my redness and even out my skin tone a bit without having to put on foundation. I started breaking out/getting a rash after using the toner sample, so I’m going to wait until my skin calms down before trying this again to see if it was the toner or something else. What are the exfoliating pads you mention? Thanks for always writing these- I feel like I’ve loved so many of your recommendations because I have dry sensitive skin and usually if you like something it works for my skin also!
oh no! so my cousin started breaking out after using the Dr Jart. do you think it’s the Dr Jart and not the caudalie? because the caudalie is so mild, i don’t even know if it has anything to break skin out? i know nothing though!
so the exfoliating cotton rounds are just ones you can get at ulta or target or the grocery store. instead of regular, they will say “exfoliating” on the package. like these! https://www.target.com/p/exfoliating-cotton-rounds-100ct-up-up-153/-/A-14070170
I love these posts so much :)
Just wondering, how do you use the apres beach spray? It never seems to make my hair more wavy?? It kind of just acts like the dry spun spray on my hair.
I was so excited when Glossier came out with their cloud paints. Since my skin is dehydrated I thought this would work well. While in the city back in May of 2017 we stopped by their store and I was able to try it. Thankfully I did it on my hand because I had such an immediate reaction. I broke out in multiple hives and I thought “well there goes that.” I do own their stretch concealer which I like, their brow boy is okay but I think I can find something better and their balm dot com was nothing to write home about.
February was a fast month !!!
I have been trying some new concealers during my never ending quest to cover dark circles. i tried shape tape again cuz obvi i must be missing something cuz everyone loves it. well what i was missing was a dry crepey odd colored mess. so that got returned. im also trying bye bye undereye which i find ok but very very thick and takes a while to work with. urban decay naked gives me best finish but not as much coverage. #ugh. i am thinking of maybe getting a new eye cream and trying that ? it just seems like recently the finish is off with everything ?
Things i’ve actually been likely and using
Urban decay naked foundation – always go back to this
Anastasia sugar highlight palette. love this !
Bite lip product in the tube (not sure what its called?) but i put it on at night and helps with chapped lips
Josie Maran argon body cream in vanilla bean or vanilla apricot. love these lotions after shaving !
On day 10 of latisse. still nothing yet. but wondering how can it change your eye color ? i use 1 drop for both eyes and there is nothing to like actually get in my eyes ? i have hazel brown eyes but i am watching to see if i notice anything. so far nadda.
Latisse always scared me due to the potential side effects, but I found the Optilash serum from Apot.care Paris to be really effective. I stopped using it after two months because my eyelashes were so long that I could no longer wear mascara and sunglasses at the same time.
I use Latisse, and the results are PHENOMENAL!! People seriously compliment my lashes all the time, BUUUUUT you have to be very patient for the results. They say it takes 4 months for full results, and I really didn’t notice anything major for almost 3 months. Stick to it though…totally worth it! And if you do more research on the eye color thing, it is super rare, and only had occurred in people with blue eyes, I think. I’ve used it for several years now and only use it 1-2 times a week to maintain results. Love!!
good to know you have kept your results with only using a few times a week. im only using 1 drop for both eyes each night as opposed to 1 drop per eye so hoping to make it last longer. to be honest i really dont have bad lashes but was curious if it would work well or not after i went through one of those “eye lashes all decide to fall out at once” type times recently. that seems to happen to me every other year or so where they just all seem to turn over at once and im left with stubs for 2 weeks. i have not had any side effects other than maybe a flake or two in the AM when i wake up that i have to make sure to get off before i do my makeup. i will report back in a few months.
Have you tried the NYX Tinted Brow Mascara? Brush is not as thin as Benefit but works just fine. Ok, I’m 25 y/o (I’m such a grandma) but just hated Too Faced newest collection. Packaging seems super cheap and can’t help but feel eyeshadow formulas will suck just as their past palettes. Looks like toddler makeup to me!! In comparison, Tarte’s ispired unicorn collection from last year was super nice!
I love Mario Badescu products. I’ve been using their “Azulene Mask”-it’s great for hydrating and calming during the winter months!
Ooh, I should have a look at that eyebrow mascara. I just shaved all my hair off this weekend (I have some medical crap happening right now) and have decided to make a better effort with my make up. I need to do something better with my bushy, white blond eyebrows, that’s for sure!
Also, in case anyone was wondering, buzzed hair is shockingly fun. I never thought I would like it, but it’s incredibly liberating.
anyone have any recommendations on a good basic cleanser for dry skin ? i use an oil to remove makeup but looking for actual cleanser. just want something simple and gentle but still cleans the skin.
I’m not sure of your price point, but CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser is a good drugstore cleanser. I feel like calling it a drugstore cleanser is a negative (I’m, admittedly, highbrow when it comes to skincare), but I’m a CeraVe devotee and use it every other night. I also love, LOVE Sanskrit Saponins by NIOD. It lasts forever and can also be used as a mask if you want to leave it on a little while longer when cleansing. I use it on the nights I don’t use CeraVe. Indie Lee Rosehip Cleanser is another good one. I use it in the mornings.
thank you i have used cerave in the past and liked it. i have not heard of the others i will have to check them out !
World’s worst broken record here, but I can never get enough ColourPop. I’ve got every palette they have now, but I’m most hooked on the Kathleen Lights palette lately. ColourPop mattes are the easiest I’ve ever used (and I’ve tried A LOT). Blend like a dream, and shimmers are absolutely gorgeous too.
I bought a new bronzer from theBalm, as well as a bunch of blushes, and they are blowing me away! Never cared much for their eyeshadows, but the face powders are fantastic so far.
