Tuesday Things.
1. We got the crazy snow in April and I’m just so shocked that it’s APRIL. I’m having one of those crisis moments where I’m freaking over the time flying by.
2. I don’t even totally love bloody marys and all I want is this bloody mary in my life. OMG.
3. Now that Easter is over, I realized I’ll have the same boring, basic home decor until the fall season. Heeelllp me.
4. Since I’m totally NOT and April Fools day person (basically I’m just no fun at all), I’m glad it fell on Easter and there was a slightly distraction. As with most other things though, now that I have kids, I sort of want to do a fun trick on them when they get older?
5. Okay we have so many TV things to discuss. Homeland – getting scary. What the heck! I am loving Billions SO much and thrilled about it because you know that 3rd seasons often jump the shark (i.e. Homeland). I desperately need Scott Speedman to be a legit character on Grey’s – and like, a character that isn’t killed off in 8 minutes. What are you watching?
6. 85 things to see, hear and read in April. That’s a lot of things.
7. Speaking of! I’m starting to put together my summer reading list (already!) and can’t wait. What have you read lately? I’ve been in a slump!
8. Someone please come to my house and remove all the chocolate peanut butter eggs. Thank you.

Hi Jessica,
Books that I have recently read and loved include –
A Piece Of The World by Christina Baker Kline
An American Marriage by Tayari Jones
The Bright Hour : A Memoir Of Living and Dying
Manhattan Beach by Jennifer Egan
I’m so excited for your summer reading list! I don’t have suggestions (yet? I’ll think on it!) but would love if you share the books you’re reading more often. Maybe a seasonal reading list? Like for spring/fall/winter also?
Also I HATE April Fools’ and was so glad it coincided with Easter this year.
Hope you have a nice rest of your Tuesday!
I’m totally with you on the home decor! I was thinking there won’t be any seasonal items out at Target until fall!! Hoping to meet you on your NYC book tour stop :)
I decorate for 4th of july. I have navy star pillows and red stripe ones. But from Easter to the 4th of july my family calls “ordinary time.” I hate how boring the house is.
I am reading The Woman in Cabin 10 because i apparently live in 2016. But i don’t know what to read next.
You should check out The little Wedding Island (Jaimie Admans) and The Last Laugh (Tracy Bloom)- very funny! for your summer reading list. I’m sure you’ll like them

For decor: I just bought a few flamingo patterned outdoor pillows and some watermelon printed plastic plates. I figure it’s the only way to get a little seasonal fun in my life. And obvs, because we apparently live in the tundra, I bought them so they wouldn’t be sold out when I was finally ready for patio season……in June. I have tons of framed photos in my apartment and will change them seasonally: summer photos with friends or cute beach snaps with pink umbrellas instead of snow capped mountains and pink-cheeked and touqued friends.
Greys: Scott Speedman FOR-EV-ER! His character is also interesting and different; he needs to stay.
I feel the same way about the home decor! The house looks bland and every time I go into Target I basically want to buy the whole outdoor/patio section and make the outside of our tiny rowhouse fun for summer. Also we have been watching The Resident on Fox and I kinda love it!
Do you like thrillers? If so, I have read all of these and LOVED them – quick easy summer reads :)
The Breakdown & Behind Closed Doors by B A Paris
Behind Her Eyes by Sarah Pinborough
All the Missing Girls & The Perfect Stranger by Megan Miranda
The Girl Before by JP Delaney
Have you read any Tana French? In The Woods is her first book and it’s a well written thriller set in Ireland (and she follows it up with 4 or 5 more). I also re-read The Poisonwood Bible every few years, just because I love it so much!
I’m reading In the Woods right now and I love Tana French’s writing style! Her dialogue and characters really jump off the page and I’m dying to know what happens (no pun intended). I think this book received a bunch of awards when it was released 10 years ago.
I am reading the Longmire series right now. We watched the Netflix series first so I wasn’t very excited about reading the books, and the first one started slow but now I’m on 8 and I cannot get enough!
I’m reading Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine by Gail Honeyman. Loving all of the book suggestions. Now for more time to read!
I’m watching Grey’s because I cannot quit Shondaland. Also watching Westworld (OMG IT IS SO GOOOOOOD) and Bojack Horseman (it’s silly and funny and unexpectedly poignant sometimes.) We’re also watching the Leah Remini docuseries about Scientology (it’s kinda old, but we didn’t have cable when it first aired!) but omg it makes me so mad and sad.
Please, please, please read Present Over Perfect. Oh my word. I’m reading it with my small group and it is FANTASTIC. Like real life changing stuff.
Books – try out “Spaceman: An Astronaut’s Unlikely Journey to Unlock the Secrets of the Universe” by Mike Massimino. After reading this book, I actually thought I could become an astronaut. It was amazing, inspiring, and he has a really sweet section on his kids before his first time on the shuttle that made me get tear-eyed.
For April Fool’s Day I pulled exactly ONE prank this year, it was super easy and a huge hit with both my daughter (10) and niece (5)- I used unflavored gelatin to solidify two glasses of juice and served it to them at breakfast. Big laughs around the table and they even ate some of it!
Currently reading “Everything Here is Beautiful” by Mira T. Lee – LOVE IT!
Recently read “You are a Bad@ss” by Jen Sinchero
I am not a Bloody Mary fan either, but you should check out what they look like at Luke Wholeys in the Strip District when they put a soft shell crab on top!
I hate April Fools Day, too! As a third grade teacher I am SO happy it fell on a Sunday!
I’ve seen some fun April Fools recipes for kids – eg dinner that looks like a cake, etc. Lot’s of ideas out there – Family Fun magazine was a good source when my boys were young.
I have so many book suggestions it would probably be easier to look me up on Goodreads – haha! But the ones I’ve read recently that I couldn’t put down:
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
The Light We Lost by Jill Santopolo
The Measure of my Powers by Jackie Kai Ellis (this is a memoir with recipes, totally amazing concept!)
In the Enemy’s House by Howard Blum (non-fic – about catching Soviet spies in the US!)
The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin
How to Stop Time by Matt Haig
The Nest by Cynthia D’Aprix Sweeney
Can’t wait to see what you choose!
The Alice Network by Kate Quinn
Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
We Were the Lucky Ones by Georgia Hunter
Still Me by Jojo Moyes
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
The Women in the Castle by Jessica Shattuck
Happy reading!
I agree with Little Fires Everywhere! Great read.
Jessica, did you end up reading Beartown last summer? What did you think of it? I teach high school and just read it with some kids for a book club I lead. It was more intense than I thought it would be, but it led to great discussion with the group.
As far as watching goes, my recent favorites are Broadchurch and Godless. I’ve kind of been in a funk after watching those.

I resonate with soooo many things in this post, haha! I’m also super saddened by the prospect of no fun home decor until the fall (which is soooo far away!!) I LIVE for fall-scented candles.
Even though April Fool’s Day was on Easter this year (and even though we are in our mid-20s) my mom still played a little prank on us when we were visiting their house on Easter. She put black jelly beans in all the toilets with a sign that had the Easter Bunny’s face – and it said “Oops, forgot to flush!” LOL!
I just read The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah. It was great and I can’t stop thinking about it.
