april lifestyle favorites

A list of all the things I loved in April, quarantine edition! xo

MEDIA

Love and Other Words. Gah! This story was so fantastic. Definitely one of my favorite reads of April.

Little Fires Everywhere on Hulu. I signed up for the Hulu free trial only to watch this. It was SO good. I had read the book so I knew what it was about, but these actors really bring life to the characters. It was definitely a little darker/drama-ish than I would have cared to watch during a pandemic, but I couldn’t stop watching.

Unlocking Us with Brene Brown. This podcast is everything I have ever wanted and needed. It is definitely a wonderful listen right now when so many  feel lonely and isolated.

FOOD

Hot honey peanut butter toast. This is one of my snack/breakfast obsessions. Toasted sourdough, creamy peanut butter, a drizzle of hot honey and a sprinkle of flaked salt. Please try it. It’s incredible.

Aldi Mexican Street Corn Chips. OMG! Where have these been all my life? Bought two bags two weeks and we are trying to ration them. They are outstanding! A little spicy too.

Belgian pearl sugar. I forgot how much I loved pearl sugar. In the first few weeks of let’s-bake-all-the-things quarantine, I made waffles with pearl sugar twice and we just couldn’t get enough. It is incredible!

Making sourdough crackers. I bet I have made these at least 15 times this month. We.are.obsessed. So is everyone else! Still haven’t baked a successful loaf of bread, but crackers I can do.

FASHION

Gap Trusleep Modal Joggers. These are the most comfortable pants in the universe, especially when you don’t want to wear leggings. I live in mine.

BP Sleepy Lounge Tee. Along with the above, I’ve been living in these tees, especially as it gets warmer. They are ridiculously comfortable and cute.

HOME

Megababe Hand Sanitizer. It’s funny that I’m talking about hand sanitizer NOW – I bought this before we were in quarantine right after I had the stomach flu. It is the BEST! The smell is incredible. I love it – and the big bottles with a pump are in stock!

Mrs. Meyer’s Mint Hand Soap. While I usually talk about my favorite seasonal soaps, this situation clearly has us in a whole new realm of buying soap. I was lucky enough to get a few of my favorite Mrs Meyers spring scented soaps from my local Target. This scent is so lovely and fresh!

The Bissel Steam Mop. This has changed my life, to say the least. I’m sure you can only imagine how dirty my kitchen floors get – and up until now it has required on-hands-and-knees cleaning. One of my friends recommended this to me and it has been incredible. I mop the floor almost every single night. This is SO light, so easy to glide on your floors and dries super quickly. Since, I’ve had two friends and my mom buy it too! Note: you don’t need the gimmicky water that comes with it. It’s basically… over priced water with essential oils!

KIDS

River Rose and the Magical Lullaby. This has been Emilia’s favorite book for the last two months. It is actually written by Kelly Clarkson and it’s so cute. We both have the whole thing memorized and we will narrate it to each other throughout the day.

Water beads. We have ventured into the whole of water beads (I know, we’re really late on this!) and both kids love it. This has been a really fun project!

Dinosaur Terrarium. Both kids love all things dinosaurs, and my in laws bought this for Max for Easter. It has been SO much fun watching this grow everyday since we have been at home. Both kids get super excited to check out the progress every morning and night and they love watering it.

Homemade chalk paint. Another fun thing we’ve done is make homemade chalk paint! This has been a blast. If you have odds and ends of chalk from last summer lying around, separate it into colors (so all blue shades together, pink shades together, etc) and place the colors in a plastic or reusable bag. Crush it into a powder (this was fun for the kids too, they loved crushing it!) – you want it in as fine of a powder as possible. Store it in the plastic bags. When you’re ready to paint the concrete, place some of the powder in a bowl and add a few drops of water. Instant paint!
