A Week In The Life, Vol 18.
Eighteen weeks into the year and here we are!
Sassy at home.
Perhaps the best thing to come out of quarantine is that I think I like my coffee better than starbucks now. I just use the chameleon cold brew and I have for years, but now I’m hooked.
I found these chalk stencils back in february – thought they’d be perfect for easter. We are LOVING them!
My heart explodes when max makes things super colorful.
Emilia loves them so much too.
My starter is finally in business! The rye flour was the only thing that finally changed the game. Of course, now it’s almost gone and I can’t find more anywhere. Whomp whomp.
Still making my house salad at least three times a week! While I would always prefer roasted vegetables with dinner, Eddie likes a salad more. Sometimes we just do both!
The prettiest.
We are our post breakfast snack out on the patio one day. Def making this a thing once it’s consistently warmer. Also, how about Max’s amazing curls?!
He’s been building legos nonstop.
And liking his work for school but missing his friends SO MUCH.
They crack me up.
I mean, I cannot even handle her. I am scared for the next few years. Hahahaha. She is a dream.
We made sliders and hot dogs because I was majorly craving summer!
Our favorite baked beans (def going to share it soon), the best tortellini salad and strawberries that are starting to get good! Oh and a stove top that I destroy approximately four times a day.
I swear that is Max smiling.
Here too! Super hero shirts for every day of the week.
I beg Eddie to support a different local mexican restaurant at least once a week.
The puppy does not leave our side. We have doggie, puppy, new puppy, yellow puppy, black puppy and so on.
I feel like this is a peak into how she will look in 75 years.
With some leftover tortilla chips I made us chilaquiles. OMG.
They were the best I’ve ever made! The key is truly have authentic leftover chips.
She dressed up in some of Max’s clothes and I can’t take it!
Annnnd we’re into another week! Hope you are hanging in there!

We have been buying our flour (to support this sourdough habit) from Central Milling. They have rye (50 pound bags, but they typically have smaller bags if you check first thing in the mornings), 00 for pizza, bread flour, wheat, etc. Again, sometimes only giant bags are available, but if you look over a few days you can generally find what you need. The flour is fantastic. We just had awesome sourdough pizza with it tonight and I made the most delicious cinnamon rolls with some last week.
I have 2-3 bags of some kind of stone ground rye flour that I won’t be using. I bought it for my starter but that’s run its course for me lol. If you want it, I’ll mail it to you.
I just ordered a bag of rye flour from Anson Mills – they have it and other flours in stock.
“We have doggie, puppy, new puppy, yellow puppy, black puppy and so on.” Seriously, you need REAL puppy very soon!!
I am curious, does Emilia gravitate towards dogs when you are out and about? She is adorable and I imagine she has a very feisty personality. Gosh, you kids are getting so big.
Tha ks for sharing them with us.
So…is a real puppy in the works for the near future?
In our house, puppy = baby. We have Cora’s Baby, Mommy’s Baby, etc. OBSESSED with anything to do with her baby dolls – crib, high chair, stroller, new doctor kit. They go everywhere with us, one in particular.
i have my sourdough starter doubling and all but the bread is still not working properly… have you found a good recipe that work?
Is your coffee just the cold brew + cream? It looks great! Thanks for the tip on the stencils – they look fun!
I hear you on the stuffed animals. My 3 y/o has puppy, kitty, bear, fox, Jingle (dog – he came with a name), Lando (dog – he came with a name), and more recently she actually NAMED two animals herself – Blueberry (blue bunny) and Bingo (big soft dog). Kids are so funny.
And yay for sourdough starters! I’ve had mine going for a while. I need to try adding rye flour to it next time I feed (once a week here – I store mine in the fridge so we don’t have to use it as often).
I ordered hot dogs and buns this week for our delivery, but they are all sold out! I wanted to get them in advance of Memorial Day weekend so we could still pretend it’s the unofficial launch of summer, but I guess everyone else had the same idea, haha. Your dogs on the grill look so good!
We gardened all day on Saturday, and we were too covered in dirt to go into the kitchen for lunch, and way too hot for the lunch we had planned, which was leftover soup. So I whipped out my phone and ordered sandwiches and fries from our fave mom-and-pop local restaurant. We got it all delivered within 30 minutes and ate outside under our pergola. IT WAS WONDERFUL. I love that we supported local business. Also, I really have started becoming at ease with delivery service. It just takes so much stress away and gives back so much time! I think quarantine will definitely affect how much I use delivery services in the future!
excuse me!! I want a pair of adult size Cindy Lou Who PJ’s too! I can’t event take it!
I knew with your love for fluorescence and neon that your kids would be into it too but I just love to see it!! It’s much more appealing (to me) than the social media trend of having your child be a monochromatic instagram darling haha. Color up my world, tattoos and superheroes and sparkles and all the bright chalk drawings 🌈 have a great week Jessica!
Hi! Omg, that taco salad looks amazing. We live in the north hills of Pgh and I’m wondering what restaurant that is from?
