Or in a jar.
This is the same jar that you see all of my smoothies in. Yes, I only have one jar. In fact, it is Mr. How Sweet’s jar and it is from Bass Pro Shops. It is the one item that I allowed him to bring from his stinky bachelor pad. It makes me feel… southern.
Actually, that’s a lie – I let him bring other items, but they have since been banished to his room: the garage. Except for that darn turkey. Don’t even get me started.
I actually added apples to this smoothie, and it was my first time. Prior to this, I was an apple smoothie virgin.
I thought that roasted apples would add a more intense, sweet flavor, so I used the lazy man’s method of roasting and microwaved half of a honeycrisp with some spices.
Excellent idea.
I’m sure that actually roasting or caramelizing the apples would be delicious for the smoothie, but I don’t have time for such shenanigans. Especially since this was an attempt to make a quick snack that I can drink! Drinking = portability and ease.
Except when it comes to rum. I wouldn’t suggest making your rum portable.
Though now that I have mentioned rum, I think it may be pretty incredible in this smoothie. Kind of like a spiked apple cider smoothie?

Apple Pie in a Glass Jar
1 cup milk (I used vanilla almond milk, it’s what I had on hand)
1/3 cup vanilla greek yogurt
1/2 large honeycrisp apple, chopped
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon graham cracker crumbs
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
2 pinches of nutmeg
pinch of ground cloves
pinch of cardamom
Sprinkle the chopped apples with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg. Microwave (or roast/caramelize) for 60 seconds until apples are soft and sweet.
In a blender, combine milk, yogurt, vanilla, apples, and spices. Blend until smooth. Stir in graham cracker crumbs – they add a nice crunch! Sprinkle with additional cinnamon or all spice.

And there you have it – apple pie in a glass (jar)!

Love the way this sounds!

Can we go with 20 tablespoons of graham cracker crumbs? Oh wait, then maybe this would not be nearly as healthy as it is now. Perhaps more rum is OK if you walk everywhere. Smoothie looks awesome girl! xo

This should be called fall in a jar. I am a huge fan of almond milk in smoothies (I prefer it to regular)- it adds a nice flavor element. What a fun treat. Hope you have a nice weekend

My lack of sleep must be catching up with me – I thought at first glance that it was a bunch of flour in the jar and I couldn’t figure out where the rest of the apple pie ingredients were! Oh my, I need to go back to bed. :)

why not rum? i don’t get it… ;)

I think I’ll make thisfor my mama this week. Love those honeycrisps!

This sounds good! I love the warmth of cardamom. I had some honeycrisps last week but now the grocery store is selling them for $3.99/lb? SERIOUSLY? They are like a drug dealer, roped me in at $1.49 and then jacked up the price once I got hooked. I cooked with macintosh this morning and had good results though.

Girl, tell me about it! I just got back from shopping and honeycrisps cost an arm and a leg AND they were bruised and beaten. I went with mini gala’s instead. :)

I may just be your biggest fan now! I started Weight Watchers two weeks ago, and because I can’t eat artificial sugars, my options are limited for sweet treats. Not anymore — this ENTIRE concoction is only 4 WW points, which is AMAZING. Seriously. It is so delicious.

That sounds like absolute perfection! Definitely going to be trying this one. :-D

Wow, what a great drink! I would use gravenstein apples – those are my favorites!

Excellent idea to “roast” the apples first. It really brings out the intense sweetness of the apples, I think. And spiked ones? Yes, please? Next post perhaps? ;)

These look and sound awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Well if you only have one jar, that one looks like a very nice one to have. Love the idea of a quick caramelizing in the microwave and turning in to a fabulous smoothie.

A liquid apple pie.. I like the sound of that! A much healthier alternative to the entire apple pie I could eat!

I LOVE the idea of microwaving the apples! I usually stew them but it takes ages; microwaving and roasting them to come…Plus, definitely going to try this apple pie, thank you! :-)
