July Favorites: Beauty.
Makeup lovers yessssss.
Hi. Summer is going too fast. Blah blah blah, I say this all the time. But it is! Holy crap, it’s almost fall and I just want to buy every berry nail polish and lipstick in preparation. Sounds fun, no?
July flew by and I didn’t wear tons of makeup. It’s hot and who wants to pile stuff on their face?! I did wear it on occasion though, and I am still dying over this Complexion Rescue that we will revisit in a hot sec. Last month I mentioned that I bought the Oribe texture spray and while I’m really liking it, I still don’t think I’ve used it quite enough to classify it as a fave yet.
Let’s get to it! Here’s what I’m wacky over.
Sonia Kashuk Makeup Bag. I’ve been using the same makeup bag since I started my beauty faves and while I absolutely l.o.v.e. it – it’s pretty huge. And I always use it for travel too since I’m a lunatic. So I was looking for something smaller and came across these bright bags at Target. Super cute and holds everything I need. Winnnnning.
Essie Sunset Sneaks. This has been my nail color of choice for the last month. I thought it was an older shade (I found it at the… grocery store), but I guess it’s for 2015. It’s the perfect reddish-coral-orange but still has enough pink in it. It really does look like a gorgeous sunset.
Smashbox Primer Water. I’ve been eyeing this for a few months but assumed it was a total gimmick. It still might be, but the aisle of doom at Sephora (right before the check out? GAH.) sucked me in and I bought the travel size. Um, I completely love it. I used this for my brother’s wedding in June and have been using it ever since when I’m wearing more makeup. I never use a regular primer (hate the feel) – but I spray this after moisturizer and before my tinted moisturizer and everything sticks like glue. Even in this hot hot hot summer heat.
Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. I’ve mentioned this three or four times now but OH MY GOSH it’s wonderful. I have dry skin and it just melts into my skin and evens everything out without feeling too heavy. I didn’t wear foundation once in July – I’ve only been wearing this. And I’ve raved about it so much that my mom ran out and got some a week or two ago. It’s the best.
Alba Daily Shade. Say hello to my favorite daily lotion in the summer. I’ve talked about this for a couple years now and it never fails: this stuff is a savior in the summer. I always have SPF on my face, but it’s not like I constantly slather it on my body everyday, especially with no plans to go outside. With this, I’m always covered and if I run out for a midday walk with Max during a work day, I don’t fry.
Marc Jacobs Twinkle Pop. 100% new favorite love this month. Not only is it GORGEOUS, it’s kind of cooling on the eye and is the prettiest neutral color – mine is in the shade Honey Bunny. I’ve worn this with the complexion rescue, some concealer, mascara and bronzer all month and that’s it. Love it.
Urban Decay Obsessed Lipstick. these lipsticks are some of the smoothest I’ve tried. I live for cool-toned pinks and this is a little lighter and cooler than the Clinique one below, but darker than MAC creme cup. So pretty. I’m super excited for the Urban Decay matte lipsticks that just released. EEEEK.
Clinique Wow Pop Primer Lipstick. Repeat offender, but feels so-freaking-good on the lips! I get lots of compliments on this color. It’s the perfect shade for when I have no makeup on but want a little pop on the lips.
Caudalie Moisturizing Toner. This is a staple in my skincare but to say I’ve been somewhat lazy in the evenings since having Max would be an understatement. Often it’s all I can do to wash my face and moisturize before throwing myself in to bed. But I ALWAYS see such a different in my skin when I use this after cleansing and before night cream. I love the exfoliating cotton rounds and really think those make a difference with this toner too. This isn’t drying at all.
Sephora Formula X Erase. I don’t know why I can’t find this on the Sephora website, I hope it isn’t discontinued?! Anyhoo – I’ve almost used an entire bottle in a month. This stuff is like MAGIC for cuticles. With one application my nails look so much better. I’ve tried many cuticle products and this is by far the best. Like ever ever ever.
Nails Inc Corrector Pen. Nooooo… I don’t just love it because the packaging is hot pink (okay maybe I do), I love it because it makes my life so easy at the moment. I had one of these from Bath and Body Works a few years ago and while I didn’t deem it necessary in my former pre-baby life, now it makes nail mistake clean up quick and easy.
I just returned home from vacation and already have a running list for next month of things I liked while traveling. What are you guys loving this summer? Are you eyeing up any fun fall things?! I didn’t bite the bullet on the naked smoky palette – so if you did, tell me! Worth it? I’m tempted to try the new Glam Glow mask too. Oomph. Be a bad influence!

Sephora is very clever with those small bins of product at the check out. It is so hard to resist!

Haven’t been wearing too much on my face in this weather, but I’ve broken out my naked basics palette a few times and I’m liking that. Loving that Essie polish color, and the glam glow mask is on my want list!
The new GlamGlow mask is ah-mazing!!! It smells so yummy. I used it 3 days in a row as per instructions & I did notice a difference. Also, just got the Clarins double serum & am in l.o.v.e.
The caudalie toner is awesome; I use it to “wash” my face in the mornings
I know you love the Kenra blow dry spray, as do i! I just discovered the blow dry conditioner they make and it does virtually the same thing!!! It comes in a gigantic size and not sure about you, but conditioner lasts me foreverrrrr, so it’s so worth the price! check it out! (I know they have a shampoo too, but I couldn’t part with my usual shampoo!)
I’m absolutely LOVING the new Glam Glow mask. It smells soooo delicious and really does brighten my face. I’ve been getting so many compliments since buying it – you HAVE to try it.
My favorites:
Mac Melba blush
Hourglass Ambient blush palette
Maybelline Color Whisper in Lust for Blush
And have you ever heard of Colleen Rothschild skincare? I purchased her travel/trial set after hearing a ton of Youtuber’s talking about her products. It’s an amazing line and I’m falling madly in love with everything I try!
Have you tried Trader Joe’s Nourish Antioxidant Facial Serum yet? Hiiiiiighly recommend! )
UD Matte Revolution in After Dark is the besssssst berry-ish shade…like a semi-matte UD Jilted, almost. Bad Blood is so pretty too-and both are cooler toned. You might like Blsckmail, too, as it is berry-toned. :)
I’m trying not to be like SUPER annoying spamming you with comments like this, but I was in training all last week and am FINALLY catching up on my bloglovin feed. THESE POSTS… kill me – AND my wallet, because I too am a marketer’s dream and essentially buy EVERYTHING you tell me too… so thanks for that ;)
like you i’ve been keeping it simple lately with makeup. ive been using mally cream blush this summer and liking it. i just started a small hypnose mascara from lancome and am reminded how much i love lancome mascaras (other than definicils which i think i am the only person who is meh over that). i did try the urban decay white (but goes on clear) lip liner that is supposed to help dark colors not bleed. overall i like it but its super soft and after just a few uses needs sharpening which is a bummer cuz it means it goes fast and on vaca i gotta take a sharpener. no likey that. as for hair…ive been flipping mine out a bit and using…wait for it….velcro rollers after i blow dry. its been nice it gives me a good flip and means no straightening iron which my hair likes yea i look like an alien and my boyfriend just sorts looks at my head the whole time but hey it works. not travel friendly though !
The NAKED smoky palette…1000x YES! It’s got every color I could ever possibly want to use. Amazing.
I keep seeing those Alba lotions at TJ Maxx!
I love TJ Maxx.
I got a Tarte Amazonian clay bronzer in my ipsy bag and I LOVE it. Also obsessed with NYX gel liner in Jewel, it’s like a plum, and makes my hazel eyes look so green! I also love the bronze olive shade.
Curious about the Complexion Rescue. Do you use the BM brush to apply it?
I am living for bright colours this season, particularly in color shift eyeshadows and build able blushes. My two favourites right now are 1) A Chris for Good Luck blush by Shiro Cosmetics because a) Backstreet Boys and b) wearable bright red and 2) Alkahestry eyeshadow also by Shiro which is the most beautiful shimmering iridescent lilac-with-blue-shift.
And three other things that are magic are 1) Moon Prism Power eyeshadow (Shiro), which turns anything into a beautiful iridescent pearl; 2) Do Your Research contour powder (Shiro again) a highly pigmented but super buildable grey/taupe/mauve powder that actually gives me cheekbones rather than a brown line across my fair skin; 3) Pixie Epoxy from Fyrinnae which I’ve finally mastered and thank god because it is the eyeshadow primer to end all eyeshadow primers and makes any sort of non-matte eyeshadow really pop and really stick.
I haven’t bought Naked Smokey yet – I found a lost Ulta gift card in my wallet and made a beeline for the store, intending to do just that – until the girl told me that it’s not LE, it’s permanent!! Sooooo I bought Naked2 instead, which I’ve wanted FOR.EVER.
I’ll probably buy Naked Smokey next… I really just want them all.

Have you tried the “i smell great” fragrance line? I feel like we have a lot of common interests in beauty/cosmetic products and i am curious about how you like their products, if you have tried. The names of their scents are appetizing enough for me to want to try!
Sunsets Sneaks is so pretty! So is the new orange-y-red shade from Essie’s Fall line. The name escapes me, but so bright and pretty! I love that Rebecca Minkoff is their first and current designer color creator.
