My Nine Favorite Podcasts Right Now.
I liiiive for podcasts!
I love listening to podcasts so so much and especially love finding new ones to follow. I listen to them in the morning while making coffee, while I’m getting ready, in the car or even while cooking dinner if they kids are occupied and playing together. My favorite tend to be on the motivational side, but I enjoy many different kinds.
I picked the top nine I’ve been listening to the most since the fall of 2018. Would love to hear yours below!
Goal Digger.
I know this is a favorite of so many, but I only started listening this past fall. I absolutely love it. Very relatable and so funny at times.
One of my favorite episodes: Rebecca Minkoff
The Skinny Confidential Him and Her.
I absolutely love this one. They have some fantastic interviews and I’m always learning something new from their guests. I especially love the skincare and fitness episodes.
One of my favorite episodes: Kate Somerville
Ed Mylett Show.
This one occasionally has a Tony Robbins vibe but I find Ed Mylett to be super inspiring.
One of my favorite episodes: Julianne Hough and Brooks Laich
The Rise Podcast.
While most of my favorite episodes on this podcast are from a year ago, I actually re-listen to them often. Some of them really hit home for me.
One of my favorite episodes: How to ACTUALLY achieve a goal.
Happier.
As a huge fan of Gretchen Rubin’s books, I enjoy her podcasts so so much. I love the variety in episodes.
One of my favorite episodes: 7 Myths of Happiness
Oprah’s Supersoul Conversations.
I mean… it’s Oprah! What I love about this is that my mom often watches the show and will tell me about the episode. Then I’ll listen and we will discuss. Really love it.
One of my favorite episodes: Maria Shriver, Michelle Obama, Tom Brady (I can’t pick!!)
Detail Therapy.
I love Amy Landino’s youtube videos and was super excited that she started a podcast. I can’t wait for this one to continue in 2019.
One of my favorite episodes: Christy Lingo
The Marie Forleo Podcast.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Maria and find her incredible inspiring. I used to watch her videos often, so I love having her ideas in podcast form.
One of my favorite episodes: Brene Brown on being your most courageous self
Armchair Expert.
I probably talked about this podcast 20 times this year but I can’t stop loving it. I have always loved Dax Shepard and really love listening to him talk to people. So many good topics and interesting things on here. Plus, these are more fun and light than some of the entrepreneurial and self-help podcasts I love.
One of my favorite episodes: Kristen Bell, Ellen DeGeneres, Lauren Graham
I’d love to hear some of your favorites below! What are you loving? What are you listening to? I want to find a few new ones – that unfortunately won’t be true crime/the perfect murder-ish because I’m a gigantic baby and scared too easily these days. FUN.

If you like dry humor, then Heavyweight is so, so good! What Should I Read Next? Is also great not just for the book recommendations but the conversations around book topics- any book lover would love it, I think!
thanks M!!
Terrible, Thanks for Asking – often difficult topics but incredibly intriguing. Forever 35 – great conversations about beauty, lifestyle, self care, etc. WTF with Marc Maron – fascinating celebrity interviews, very free flowing.
i keep forgetting about forever 35!! i just subscribed!

Thanks for posting. Been looking for some new podcasts. I love Dax! He’s one of my favs!
thanks stacy!
Is this photo one of your recipes? It’s beautiful and I’m craving pancakes now! :) I’m just dipping my toes into podcasts, but a new one I’ve been enjoying is Courageous Parenting, a biblically based parenting podcast. Very inspiring!
yes it’s an old photo!! thanks katy!
I cannot recommend Pantsuit Politics highly enough. Two women – one progressive, one conservative – talking current events and politics with nuance and grace instead of yelling talking points at each other. Their conversations are well-researched and sound like real people instead of pundits. It’s a wonderful way to stay informed without the emotional exhaustion of other news sources.
this sounds amazing!!! thanks so much alise!
I haven’t listened to Goal Digger but I need to start! I have just started listening to Side Hustle School (it’s in the “Onward Project” with Gretchen Rubin’s Happier, which I also love). I also recently began listening to Happier in Hollywood and really enjoy it as well. Although I think Happier is still my tried and true favorite overall. Thanks for the recommendations! Bookmarking this post!
thanks colleen!!
Have you listened to Forever35? It is two friends (Kate and Doree) who talk about skin care, self care, yoga, Broadway dance class, getting pregnant, raising kids, sleep, eating, etc etc etc. I am in love with it. I’m shocked that they aren’t already on your list!
i haven’t and i keep meaning to!! lots of people are telling me to – i just subscribed! i’m annoyed i’ve missed it for so long, haha!
Finding Mastery is my absolute favorite. You may like the episode with Bobbi Brown!
thanks kristi!!
I second Heavyweight! I also love: In the Dark (The case of Curtis Flowers is so frustrating), Revive our Hearts (she’s currently going through Psalms 1), Reply All (about the internet and technology but promise its very interesting and funny), Criminal (i just love Phoebe Judge’s voice, so soothing. Interesting true crime stories), Revisionist History (favorite episode is McDonald’s Broke my Heart), Car Talk ( honestly I could listen to Ray and Tom laugh all day). Also Proof by ATK is interesting, their episode on Cravings was great.
thanks for all of these jojo!!
For The Love by Jen Hatmaker is fantastic, definitely check this one out!!
Rachel Cruze is about to launch one that I think will be really good.
Cultivate Your Life with Lara Casey is very encouraging and thoughtful.
I love Armchair Expert too!! :)
thanks so much katie!!
Great list! Will check out some of these! The Popcast with Knox and Jamie is light hearted and hilarious!! Especially recommend their “No’s of ____” episodes! Keeps me laughing on my commute! Also I know you like to read so “What Should I Read Next with Anne Bogel” is also really good!
oooh thank you jessica!
The Popcast with Knox and Jamie is my favorite as it hilarious.
How I Built That with Guy Roz is always my number one pick! So intriguing to learn the background behind so many of my favorite brands.
thanks so much melanie!
I love that you shared a fav episode! I’ve seen a few folks sharing favorites but including ones especially recommended is so helpful! I looooove Mama Bear Dares.
thank you emily!
The Popcast is so fun. They “educate you on the things that entertain but do not matter”. You can become a Patreon and they do Bachelor recaps that are the only reason to watch that show.
oooh thanks amanda!!
I love Armchair Expert! The one with Conan O’Brien was pretty good too. He has so many episodes now!
I know you loved Dirty John, so you should check out Dr. Death! It’s not a murder-true-crime typical podcast but more in line with Dirty John – like omg how did someone get away with all this??
so i tried dr death… but ugh, i just couldn’t!! ever since having kids it’s like my scare factor is ruined, haha.
Try LeVar Burton Reads. http://www.levarburtonpodcast.com/
thanks monica!
My favorites are Nancy and Reply All- the hosts always find such interesting things to focus on. I’m always fascinated!
thanks kelsey!
Ditto on Reply All!!
I adore The Good News Podcast – Cards Against Humanity started it last year and paid for a year of it so they do a little (under 10 min) episode about something good and uplifting. CAH isn’t sponsoring anymore so now they only do 3 days a week, but they may increase if they get enough patreons (sp?). I really like starting my day with that. LOVE Armchair Expert and am off/on with Unqualified by Anna Faris. I also like Getting Curious with Jonathan Van Ness (guy from QE gets people on to discuss things he’s curious about – ranges from celebrities talking about themselves to politics), Hello Internet (they talk about a variety of things, but I like the Australian accent), and Do By Friday (they pick a challenge they have to do each week and talk about it, but also talk about a bunch of other stuff beforehand – it’s usually pretty funny).
i really liked the anna faris one at the beginning but i stopped after SO much of the episode ended up being the role playing stuff with the voices. has she stopped doing that?! thanks so much PJ!
That’s pretty much what bothers me too! It’s slightly less, but I also just skip over those parts now (I also skip over ads). It’s usually my last choice option if I’ve listened to everything else.
Second life is amazing. Very interesting and impressive women, some who are famous, are interviewed as they are in their “second” career. Each podcast is around 30-40 minutes and they’re all so interesting and inspiring!
awesome!! thanks for the rec liza!
I agree, Second Life is my favorite pod od 2018!
LOVE RISE! Have you listed to Rise Together? Rachel and her husband do a podcast together and it is GOLD. So much wisdom about marriage, achieving goals together, supporting each other’s goals, its great!
i have and i really like that one too!
Are you planning only 3 recipes a week now? (Sad face)
hi lee! i wrote about getting rid of my weekly cocktail post here (https://www.howsweeteats.com/2018/12/snacks-cocktails-need-new-years-eve/) and here (https://www.howsweeteats.com/2019/01/2019-goals-word-year/). i will still be posting drinks occasionally/often, just not every single week. and you can probably expect the usual 4 recipes week, because i often have something to post on sundays too! and in some seasons, i’m sure i will do 5 recipes.
Sporkful is the best!
I am hooked on How they Built This. It is amazing and inspiring how the big companies got started. A lot more hard work and rough beginnings than we imagine.
I also listen to some great running podcasts like Ctolle run and I’ll have another. Great conversational interviews great to take on a morning run or walk.
-Death, Sex, and Money. One of my all-time favorites. Riveting stories about experiences.
-Hidden Brain and This American Life
-I really loved America’s Test Kitchen before they stopped about a year ago :( but the archives are great.
-S-town. A seriously amazing storytelling podcast that isn’t too gruesome, but oh-so-intriguing.
I agree, S-town is great, Ear Hustle is wonderful example of what a prison SHOULD be doing with its inmates, Bear Brook, a fascinating mystery that uses genetic testing websites to discover identity….and so may more.
Mom Brain! by Hilaria Baldwin and Daphne Oz. Great tips, interviews, product recommendations and they are surprisingly super relatable. They have had Rebecca Minkoff, Ginger Zee, Molly Sims and so many more on!
You already know that I’m partial to the TSC podcast; but I also love the Hungry Girl podcast (I’m also partial to this because my voice was in an episode, as a caller, hahaha); and I love the Perino & Stirewalt: I’ll Tell You What podcast.
I second, Terrible, Thanks for asking. Start at the beginning and binge the rest. LOVE.
Most of the podcasts I listen to are about art or art history. But, I’m hooked on Thug Kitchen’s “Forked Up.” Of course, you’ve got to be okay with their language. I love their cookbooks.
Rachel Maddow also did a podcast recently called “Bag Man” which was EXCELLENT…
Omg thank you I needed this!!! All I do is drive and back and forth to Canada right now! My very favorite is Alec Baldwin here’s the thing!
My Favorite Murder is the absolute best, if you like true crime and humor and the empowerment of women! I also love Criminal, This is Love, and Ear Hustle.
Lewis Howes, The School of Greatness. Two of my favorites on his podcast was Ed Mylett and Rachel Hollis. I also really like The Gary Vee audio experience.
Babysitter’s Club Club is the perfect podcast for children of the 80s and 90s. Two thirty-something men read through the entire Babysitter’s Club series. They just wrapped the main series and I can’t wait to see where they go next with it — hopefully to Sweet Valley High!
Revisionist History & The Dollop are great history podcasts! Bear Brook is good for a true crime podcast that doesn’t focus on any gore/ isn’t too scary and focuses more on the mystery & investigation of the case
i love Pod Save America, Ladygang (raunchy but love it) and Forever 35. i also like dax sheppard but some of his are so long and i only have so much time . i wish i could listen at work. thanks for the recommendations though !!!
Check out Uncover’s Escaping NXIVM! It is the story behind that sex cult that the actress from Smallville was involved in. It’s so super crazy! And really interesting! I seriously think I listened to the whole thing in 1 day.
I’m such a Luddite, had no idea there were so many podcasts! Now I know from the comments and your post. I occasionally listen to the podcast Mother Like a Boss, because mothering/modern homemaking is probably the one area I find myself the most goofy-footed.
I just started (and have nearly finished) Last Seen and I love it. It’s true crime about an unsolved art heist and it is so fascinating.
Omg thank you I needed this!
I know this is an old post but I have to say, I got so much inspiration from it and all your comments! Thanks so much and wishing you a happy New Year!
