Maple Bacon Brown Sugar Scones.
I told you I made a lot of bacon this weekend.
This is the recipe that turned me from a scone hater to a scone lover. It all started with the cinnamon chip scones a few years ago and continued with the chocolate cinnamon scones. You know the next logical step for me was to add bacon. And brown sugar! The healthy kind… since it’s brown.
And topping these with a maple glaze just really takes ’em over the top.
I sort of just hopped on the maple gravy train. Never been a huge fan of maple, but after this glaze, I’m hooked.
I nearly drank it through a straw.
Best scone I’ve ever had. Literally. If you don’t like scones, if you associate them with boring, bland, dry pastries… bake these today and change your tune.
No one in my family can get on board with the bacon-in-baked-goods thing yet. Not Mr. How Sweet. Not my mom. You know what that means? I’m a loner when it comes to them. Danger zone!
Oh well. I’ll gladly accept that challenge.

Maple Bacon Brown Sugar Scones
makes 16 scones
3 1/4 cups flour
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3/4 cups cold butter
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
5 strips cooked bacon, crumbled (I suggest cinnamon sugared bacon)
course sugar for sprinkling
Preheat oven to 425.
In large bowl combine dry ingredients. Cut in butter until it forms coarse crumbs. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla. Fold in bacon crumbles. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently.
Divide in half and pat into 7 inch round circles. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sugar. Cut into 6 or 8 wedges.
Bake at 425 for 12-14 minutes. Top with maple glaze.
Maple Glaze
1 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
drop of water
1 cup powdered sugar
Combine syrup, vanilla and powdered sugar and stir until combined. Based on the consistency of the glaze, add water one drop at a time and stir – if you accidentally add too much, just add a bit more powdered sugar. Continue to stir until desired consistency is reached. Pour over scones!

I’ve had bacon everyday this week. Life is good.

Oh.my.God. These look and sound like the best scones eveeeeeer
I have never been a fan of scones, but I tried the most amazing ones a couple of weeks ago. Maybe I’ll make these and become a scone lover!
If I was forced to, I think I could choke one of these down. ;)
I’m dying over here!!! Those look so amazing!!!!!
You and your bacon posts make me laugh. I LOOVE me some bacon! I’m all about the sweet and salty thing too.
Oh my…. the bacon… the glaze… I need to make this! I’m literally drooling reading this post.
WHAT?!?! bacon in a scone!? ummm wow that look so good!
your family doesn’t know whats good, these look like the perfect sweet and salty treat:D
Bacon used to be my favorite meat growing up and then I went vegetarian. But now I’m back to being a carnivore. Methinks I should try these!
These scones look great and of course are so easy to make. Liked the maple bacon and brown sugar. Throw in some spiced pecans and have that extra dimension on the scone.
Very Cool!
Spiced pecans sound amazing. I wish I would have thought of that!
I love, love, love this combination of flavors – can’t wait to make these!
so clever. And yes, you love bacon more than anyone I know I think. :)
You are so creative with bacon! I love sweet breakfast items with bacon in’em! Hello, bacon waffles! Mmmm!
I’m on board with bacon on everything! I wonder if you could make a bacon infused syrup? Mmm.
I think I need to get on that!
My husband is much of a scone eater but he would definitely like these since they have bacon in them!
That glaze looks heavenly! I have a serious question though. How do you keep your place from smelling like bacon? Whenever we cook it, the smell lingers for at least a day, even if we open the windows and turn on the overhead fan. Thanks!
Umm… is it weird that I don’t mind the scent of bacon? Our house really doesn’t hold the scent that much – I also open the kitchen window.
hahaha I thought you might say that! Thanks :)
I have never made scones before and never cared for pastries much either but things could change :)
I didn’t like scones at ALL until this recipe. I first had them in 2007 and it changed my mind!
These sound so ridiculously yummy Jessica!
If you wanted to make it “healthy” you could slather these with a little Peanut Butter & Co. Mighty Maple. It’s all natural and a nut butter, therefore it’s good for you… unless you eat half the jar in one sitting. Not that I did that. Whoops.
Excellent point! :)
You ought to own a pig, or two or three. Are you sure you don’t live on a pig farm with all that bacon consumption?
I’ve never tried scones like this before, so I’ll be over in the morning to have one. See you at 8. Thanks!
I should!
I’ll be waiting. :)
Yous is so funny Jessica! It actually looks pretty good I have to admit! I’m not picky, but not exactly a lover of bacon. Do savory scones exist? Like, this could be great with saltiness and cheesiness. :)
Oh yes they exist – cheesy scones are amazing!
This is probably my favorite recipe that I’ve seen on your blog since I’ve started reading. Needless to say, I will be making these very soon! Drooling already.
Yessss!
Oh no! You are serious! You do have desserts with bacon! From now on when I read you I’ll start changing the word bacon for chocolate chips, even if it’s a pasta dish ;)
I have to say that I’m glad your family don’t get on board with this… :p
I’ll might not force you to like veggies but send you a book about where the bacon comes from… poor little piggies… ♥ ;)
that sounds so damn good!
Thought you should see this (if you haven’t already)

it reminded me of you instantly!
Love it!
I’m the biggest scone lover. They are my weakness. You are killing me. ;-)
Is there one food that you could never imagine putting bacon into?
I’ve been thinking about this for an hour… and no. There isn’t.
Is it bacon week? I’m seeing bacon everywhere. http://blenderbooze.blogspot.com/2011/02/fat-washing-process-for-bacon-infused.html
The scones look absolutely delish – they’d go perfectly with a Bacon Apple Martini.
Bacon week is every week for me.
Yum! I’ve been in a maple-y mood for a little while now, I’m planning on making maple cream cookies once I get my hands on some maple extract (not easy to find), but now I’m going to have to add scones with maple glaze to must-bake-NOW list!
Great pictures and recipe :)
Maple cream cookies sound delicious!
I love bacon in scones! Why I’ve never thought to add maple I don’t know. Will definitely add it next time though!
Can you believe I have never had a scone!!!!??
When I do have one, it will be THIS one!
No. I can’t. Go make them NOW.
Scones. I love scones. I do not eat them often enough!
I also have not had bacon in a really long time.
I need scones and bacon but I’m not sure if I want them together…
But I will definately try that maple glaze
Your obsession with bacon is fantastic! I ate bacon this weekend and actually thought of your blog..haha. Can’t wait to see what you make next.
You are a devil woman.
Great scone recipe! They look awesome. I’m going to try them sans bacon, and I know they’ll still be great!
There are few things better in life than a fresh scone and a hot cup of coffee. Except when someone brings you both in bed. ;-)
OMG.
I love you.
In a purely non-internet-stalker sort of way… in more of a your-recipes-complete-me sort of way.
Thank you :)
you had me at maple bacon.
I keep coming back to this recipe Jess! (I mean, I gawk at it) but I’ll make these sooon soooon! Mmmmmm :D

I made these this weekend and we loved them! We kicked it off with the cinnamon sugar bacon and then I made the scones. What a concept! I ended up adding a dash of maple extract into the glaze because the maple syrup flavor just wasn’t coming though enough for me. Love your recipes – so unique and fun!
I love, love, LOVE bacon! And throwing it into a baked good just makes it that much better! Bring it on baby!
you are my hero. who knew that you could put bacon in scones? Well, obviously you did…but you know
I just made these tonight for tomorrow morning – my family and I are walking in the Family Fun Walk @ the Race for Autism – in San Diego.
Oh my goodness! I am NOT a maple flavor fan at ALL!
But whoah, everything about these scones is amazing!
I made the cinnamon sugared bacon – and that in itself just about threw me, my friend and our sons into spasms! It smelled SOOOOOOO good!
I ate a scone with no glaze and it was fantastic just like that! I can’t wait to try the iced ones tomorrow morning!
Pairing these with fresh fruit and juice and we will be ready for the fun filled morning and raising Autism awareness!
Thank you for an amazing treat!
