Everything White Bean Hummus.
I ignored *everything* bagels for a long time.
I mean, a really long time. I think it was the whole onion thing. I thought I didn’t really like onions back in the day but I think that was only because they are a vegetable and also because they were semi-offensive in raw form when I was a kid.
Then you learn that onions are like, the basis of all beautiful flavors and that you should get your act together.
Then you eat an everything bagel and think you’ve died. So good.
Speaking of bagels, I have a giant bone to pick with Dunkin Donuts. Do people – and by people, I mean the majority of the general population – not like their bagels toasted or something? Like really toasted? Because every time I get a bagel there, it’s barely warm with not a hint of golden toastiness. So for the last few years I’ve been asking for it toasted “well done” and ummm… it looks the same. I find myself screaming into the drive thru intercom (because god forbid I get off my lazy rear and actually WALK inside) PUHLEASE REALLY TOAST MY BAGEL. LIKE I WANT IT BROWN.
Ugh. I’m very passionate about this. Obviously.
It’s just that when I want something toasted, I want it toasted. We’ve already discussed this though so I won’t bore you again. I just don’t get it when people want something toasted and by toasted they mean slightly warm with no crunch.
Now that you think I’m a stark raving lunatic, I’m guessing you’ve maybe also figured out that this hummus is supposed to be like an everything bagel. That would be correct. Yay for smarts.
Here’s my stance on the everything seasoning: I think it’s best when it’s all meshed together and covering something. Does that make sense? That is why I didn’t stir it all into the dip. The hummus certainly has flavor: roasted garlic, toasted sesame oil, all that good stuff, and the seasoning will most likely get swirled throughout this silky beans when you’re dipping your favorite cracker inside, but I think it works best when just showered on top.
It’s prettier too. Pretty food = less calories. Just decided that right now.
Everything Hummus
Ingredients
- 3 cups cooked cannellini/great northern beans, or 2 cans, drained and rinsed
- 6 tablespoons olive oil + more for drizzling
- 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
- 1 whole head of roasted garlic
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
everything seasoning
- 2 tablespoons dried minced onion
- 2 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
- 1 tablespoon dried minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon flaked sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- crackers for serving
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine dried onion, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, garlic, sea salt and black pepper. Toss to mix.
- Add beans and roasted garlic to a food processor and pulse and blend until combined the beans begin to puree, about 2-3 minutes. With the processor still going, stream in olive oil and sesame oil, blending continuously for a few minutes (and scraping down the sides if needed) until as smooth as desired. Add salt and taste, adding more if desired but remember – all of the seasoning will go on top.
- Add hummus to a bowl and drizzle with extra olive oil. Pour everything seasoning overtop and serve immediately.
- P.S. it is essential that you like the “everything” seasoning to enjoy this!

Cracker stack! It’s like a cracker and hummus cake. Let’s make it a thing.

What a fab idea! I don’t know where you come up with his stuff? but I love it! I haven’t had an everything bagel in FOREVER, but why have that one that you can make this tasty looking hummus! Bookmarking, for sure!
I am with you, I toast and bagels toasted and toasted good. With lots of crunch!
This is such an awesome idea! I am not a huge hummus person, but I think I could LOVE this stuck. I mean It’s everything, how could I not! Yum.
Oh yum!! I’m so trying this.
Hummus cake? Sign me up!! As for everything bagels and toasting – couldn’t agree more. Bread products are about a bazillion times better when they’re toasted, and after I bought my panini press a couple of years ago, I have a really hard time eating sandwiches if they’re NOT toasted. I guess I just have a thing for crumbs! ;)
This looks to die for! OMG right up my alley.
LOVE everything bagels and love bean dip. I’m mean you’ve just paired two things perfectly together.
Thank you, I will be making this, this weekend.

I love your cracker stack shot. Plentifully coated in hummus, which is the only way!
And I’m digging the black + white contrast of this. And the seeds and texture. I bet it’s wonderful!
This looks freaking FAB! I just ate an everything bagel for breakfast…neat. My boy is the same – if it’s not toasted properly he throws a fit! Sometimes I have to eat my bagel and his…I don’t mind, haha.
This is such a good idea – you’re so creative! I love using white beans in hummus – I think they produce a much creamier texture than the usual chickpea!
could not agree more!
I absolutely love making my own hummus….there’s just no reason to buy it form the store anymore. For the record, I like my bagels really toasted too and I thought that was pretty normal.
I love white bean hummus and I love “everything” flavor….so I am pretty sure that I would LOVE this hummus!! YUM! I can’t wait to try it!
Not only is that beautiful but I am dying to eat it. I love the idea of the crunchy seeds in the soft hummus.
I did not know that you could use anything but chickpeas in hummus. My mind is blown. I’m going to try making one of my old favourite hummus recipes with cannellini beans instead!
Well done toasting is mandatory on bagels, and the schmear needs to go on when the bagels just pops up out of the toaster so that it gets a little melty. I think now though I want an everything bagel with everything hummus. Because you can never have too much of everything
Amen to the toasted bagel!
And I totally need to make some hummus. Stat.
I was the EXACT same way with everything bagels (and onions) before I finally gave in, now I eat a whole wheat everything bagel every Friday. The hummus sounds amazing.
Oh my god, what would happen if i toasted up an everything bagel and dipped in it in everything white bean hummus? i think my head might explode (in a good way)
I KNOW.
Fabulous! I love hummus and amazed that this recipe uses beans instead of chickpeas. So awesome!
Everything bagels are my faaaaave. Can’t wait to try this!
i, too, have just discovered the magic of everything bagels. so this recipe just made my day. EVERYTHING EVERYTHING!
Pretty foods = less calories… could not agree more my friend. I just saw a picture of everything hummus but can’t seem to find it in stores. I’ll have to give this a try!
I’m convinced we are basically the same person–because I ALSO absolutely hated everything bagels (onion bagels, anything in that family)–if it even touched my plain bagel, I would basically not eat it. And now….I absolutely love them and they are so much better than boring, plain ones.
I totally agree about the toasting thing–I used to do that with pizza bagels at a place near me. I basically had to say every time, “Um, no, I want the cheese to actually brown and the bagel to be crunchy.”
This looks amazing!! I can’t wait to try it. And your pictures are so beautiful, I want to lick my computer screen!
O.m.g. yum! CANNOT wait- I am making it this weekend! I hear you on the DD bagel dilemma. Warmed does not equal toasted. Something should seriously be done about this!
I’m totally about the toasting-til-it’s-brown thing too. English muffins take on a whole new flavor as well when toasted.
Love me some hummus, lady!
Girl, you are not alone. Dunkin’ Donuts notoriously under-toasts things. I usually ask for my bagel un-toasted and then go home and do it myself. I’ve also heard people request that theirs be “double toasted.” It’s a national problem.
ha, not even exaggerating when i say that makes me feel better.
Yes! Double toasted! I was just going to comment that! Then they actually put it through twice – that’s what they do up here at Tim Horton’s anyway :)
Prettyyyy sure I could devour this all in one sitting. YUM!!!
I made everything seasoning a few weeks ago and love it!!!
I will have to try it on hummus!!! The only difference . I toasted the seasoning and it tastes just like a toasted bagel!! :)
I love everything everything! And as for toasting bagels at DD I like my lightly toasted because otherwise all my cream cheese melts off and I find that upsetting. So I either need a lightly toasted bagel with a hunk of cream cheese or crispy bagel with a double serving of cream cheese to compensate for the part that will melt……catch my drift?
Hahaa, I love your “p.s.”!!! Also, WHO doesn’t like a fully toasted bagel??? Or heaven forbid an UNtoasted bagel. AH! We love the everything topping over here. Great idea on adding it to hummus!
It’s almost like they put the bagel next to the toaster and not actually in it! HAVE to always get my bagel double toasted! I used to go to a local chain, Finagle a Bagel and get an onion bagel, double toasted with chive cream cheese. Could I stink more of onions?
So glad you showed the Cannellini bean some love!
I make a Savory White Bean Dip that is outrageous, always a big hit at parties! My secret ingredient? A little horseradish for a spicy kick :)
Because of this lack of toasting at DD, I now just ask for the bagel, bring to work/home toast it myself and put my own cream cheese on. It’s that difficult to get the proper amount of toasting and THAT important that you do. Plus DD bagels are pretty sub par so extra toasting is extra important.
Hooolllllyyy crap. What if I made that dip and then PUT IT ON AN EVERYTHING BAGEL? Overkill? I don’t care, it’s like my dream food.
I remember my aunt coming home with everything bagels in a separate bag so it didn’t “infest” the other bagels- Ha! This is a great idea for a summer pool party I’m hosting this weekend!
Because we have so many New York transplants living here, we have really great bagel places, so I can’t even fathom eating a DD bagel; I do love their coffee though!
What about this dip!?! Yummo. I’m with you on the Hummus Cracker Cake, it’s a thing!
I’m a huge fan of white bean hummus. I love all the seeds and flavors you’ve added. It looks fantastic!
Can we please make the cracker stack cake a thing?! That would be great. I’m not a huge fan of everything bagels, I like the flavors but something about the bagel part just doesn’t work for me… A dip though that is something I can get behind :)
YES – it has to be SUPER toasted for my liking too! I feel like every bagel shop I’ve ever been to either hardly toasts or burns the bagel. Shouldn’t they be the experts on proper toasting technique?!
OY.
But YES to this hummus – I love the everything-ness of it!
thanks to you i now as for well done.
love this!
My mom and I have to order our bagels TRIPLE toasted because we feel the same way. It’s ridiculous! I just want some serious crunch people… I don’t understand the “soft” toasted concept. It can’t be a thing.
However, I am guilty of allowing myself to eat bagels that have been microwaved. I KNOW. its gotta be a sin somewhere… just definitely not on Long Island, thats how my boyfriends family eats them ALL the time. I don’t even know if they own a toaster. What does that even mean? I practically live in my toaster.
Also, that hummus looks fab & I think I’m going to be you when I grow up.
Yeah toasted does not mean nuked! I love everything about this everything dip!!
I ignored everything bagels for the longest time, too, but I think I would prefer this everything white bean hummus over the bagels!
this is a great recipe, thank you for sharing!! Oh and I TOTALLY agree about the toasting thing at DD, it’s so silly! I ask for it twice toasted, so it goes through the machine twice, and that usually works for me!
Since this is like the bajillionth recipe of yours that I’ve pinned, I’ve decided we must be on some kind of a Jessica wavelength and are probably secretly best friends.
That, or we both know good food when we see it. :)
Thanks for all the delicious inspiration!
Jess
making this for lunch. thank you.
An awesome little snack!
I’m so glad you didn’t muss it up with the fennel seeds. I hate those things. I usually pick them off my everything bagels and it takes me 20 minutes to eat one because of it. Can’t wait to make this!!
I share same passion about toasted bagels and I love the idea of everything hummus :)
Ugh Dunkin Donuts. I always tell them to toast it twice. Is anyone like “toast my bagel less please, I like it toasted but not really toasted, thanks.”??
Mmm now I want an everything bagel!! hahah. Love this hummus!!
